I looked around and couldn't find anyone else asking the same question - if I missed it I apologize.
Are apps purchased from Android Market accessible on the stock Nook Touch Launcher? - as opposed to needing to switch to another launcher to get to, say, Kindle?
Or, if apps (other than those DLed from the Nook's store) aren't accessible, does Quickdesk work? (it didn't work on rooted NC 1.2)
Don't have a NT at the moment (had a rooted NC for quite a while though), but I'm considering it.
Thanks for your help!

Bought a new NC last week and manually upgraded it to v1.2. Used ManualNooter last night to get it rooted and after seeing what was added, I don't think I'll be flashing a custom rom because I don't want to lose the standard Nook functionality. (the tab is more for the rest of my family who will want to use it as a reader first, everything else second)
I like that the Google apps were added along with the ability to install apps from the Market and that's really all I need.
I installed another e-reader app (Cool Reader) and found that the Back and Menu buttons are totally ignored while the app is running. Tried launching Soft Keys and the Back and Menu buttons it uses are ignored as well. Not being able to access the settings in Cool Reader prevents me from adjusting the font size or changing other items.
Any idea why this might be happening? Is this an app or device issue, you think? Are there other apps folks have found that experience the same thing that I should look out for?
I liked how rooted 1.1 would allow to you use sideloaded (or market) apps from the stock launcher "Other" drawer (you had to restart after installing to see them, but that was fine). Other the other hand 1.2 wouldn't allow you to use anything but apps downloaded from the Nook store from the APP drawer. Does anyone know if it's any different with 1.3?
Or, if market apps don't show up in stock launcher, does QuickDesk work on 1.3? It didn't work on 1.2.
I'd check myself, but I sold my NC earlier this summer. If sideloaded or apps from the market are usable from the stock app drawer in 1.3 I'm thinking of buying one off craigslist for ~$100.
(I know most people just want to use CM7, or another Launcher, but I want it to be simple, and not have to worry about SOD - at all -, etc.)
Thanks!

Well, I decided to go with the Nook Touch, because simple reading and battery life is my main concern.
That being said, I did find a few apps specifically for the NC on the market (search "nook color"), and there is an app available for the very purpose of making non-nook apps available on the homescreen. It says it only works on 1.2, but who knows, maybe it will work on 1.3. And if Magazines aren't a major concern of yours stick with 1.2 and use that app.
Anyone have a solution to the Kindle Reader app not bringing up a book list if you change the launcher?
Currently I have to go to the stock KF Launcher and pick books/newsstand to selection a new book/magazine to read. Anyone have a hack or setting to change this?
I have the same problem, and would be very interested in hearing an answer!
This is a known issue and there is as of yet no workaround. What I have done and what most people have done is to set a short cut on the desktop for the Kindle Launcher. Then you can select your books/newstand etc. Not the most ideal but it is what we have until Amazon releases a fix or some crafy dev comes up with a better fix in a custom ROM.

Thanks Eric!
Just found a workaround. Searched kindle in the market and updated the app. This installed the version that would usually be used on an android device and shows your whole library.
edit: Just a warning, there seems to be no way to make this kindle app full screen. It has the navigation bar (albeit the minimized one) and I'm pretty sure it used to go full screen in the stock kindle app. Also this new kindle app wont work from the stock launcher. I'm thinking about switching back for these two reasons (mostly the full screen thing is bothering me), anyone know how to revert back?
edit2: Also the slider that allows you to quickly jump between locations in the book is covered up by the navigation bar.. Very annoying. Wouldn't recommend doing this unless you don't need that. You can still manually "go to" a section of the book but I'd rather have the slider. Just did a factory restore to get the original kindle app back.
I rooted my NC while it was running 1.2 with manual nooter 4.5.6. Everything went fine and I got it all up and running rather easily. THEN, B&N automatically updated with their 1.4.1 version. It hijacked my "n" button to default to stock home rather than Zeam launcher, made a few Android apps useless (Amazon Mobile, but Kindle and Market work fine). The B&N 1.4.1 stock software was good with access to Netflix and other new apps, and it all worked fine, but I still needed the full Android experience and couldn't get back to it thru the Nook software, so I re-rooted with the same Manual Nooter process. Since the re-root, almost everything is fine, except I've suddenly lost the ability to download anything from B&N in stock area. Click on a book or magazine to download and it brings up the barber's pole status bar but just sits there...nothing every downloads. Can still shop, browse, read pre-downloaded samples, etc...just can't download anything new, including apps from the Nook Market.
Everything else works well, including Amazon Kindle app...but would be nice to still have access to B&N stock stuff running next to MN. Can anyone guide me as to what might be blocking the downloads? Thank you... Eric the Noob
I'm afraid that's the state of things with v1.4.1 for the time being. To be safe, you should use one of the methods for blocking automatic updates, or something similar may happen after each release. With any luck, a work-around will be identified for v1.4.1 any day now. In the meantime, you probably need to revert to v1.3 and block updates.
Thanks
Strange. Now I downloaded the Netflix app through Amazon App market and functionality works (it never did before, would just get hung up on Netflix splash screen). Oh well. Not being able to download stuff in B&N store isn't a big deal. Small price to pay for having full Android. I can wait. Thank you.
have you tried downloading from your laptop/desktop and then when you turn on the nook seeing if its in your library or nook app location?
Hi. My mom got a hold of my Nook, and I haven't gotten it out of her hands since. She wants to keep it, and I was thinking I would give it to her and order myself a Glowlight model. Thing is, I have my original one hacked pretty good and set up how I like it. I know that Nooks have unique information that prevents us from directly loading a backup made on another Nook, so I can't just make a Nandroid and plop it on the Glowlight, but I'd like to find a way to somehow backup my mods and settings and put them on the Glowlight, so it can pick up where I left off. Can this be done, and will the mods be compatible? The ones I am thinking of specifically are Superuser (of course), the Nook Touch Tools button mods and B&N bottom button mods, Market access, and PIN lock on the (noot-installed) launcher.
Thanks, by the way, for all the hard word you guys have put in, making my ebook reader so much more useful than it already was.
There are at least three rooting tools available, glownooter from Gabrial of Touchnooter fame (full Google app support,) the traditional noogie for the fully manual root, and tinynoot for an automatic but minimal root.
Most NST tools work fine on the glowworm - launchers, su/busybox, the Amazon market, other readers.
Best way to port settings is probably to install Titanium onto the one you're parting with, do a backup, root the new one, install Titanium, then restore those apps (and their settings) that you actually want.
