All that ranting, but no information as to what is actually going on. Are you getting an error message? FC?
Still getting ads.....
AFAIK, adfree simply adds a hosts file with the add servers in it, in which case you are seeing adds because either the servers changed or there are new ad servers that haven't been added yet. Devs need incentive to do the work they do, so just be happy that you can even get good apps for free and deal with it.

An app is only as good as it works. I have run into the same issue as the op recently. Also I'm getting real tired of reading these smart ass remarks at the end of posts here to just like yours. Its unnecessary!
hey.. try this:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=919040
The above methods seem to work for me. I've never used adfree btw...
There is something odd going on with hosts. I have the same problem as you that ads continue. I have traced mine to the fact that the hosts file is continually overlaid by the default blank one. It appears there is some component that continually scans this and wipes it.
I posted this problem a couple months ago but never got a response. The best I did was install GScript Lite and create a script to copy my saved off version of the ad-free hosts file back over the real one. It is not a good solution but the only one I have. I suppose the ultimate solution would be a different ROM. But that would just trade the problem I understand for an unknown number of ones I don't.

i dont use adfree
ive never had an ad using this hosts file
extract it from the zip, and put it in system/etc
enjoy
Has anyone tried enabling the AdFree option to symlink to /local/data (I think? forgot the exact path it gives in the app). I use that and have never experienced any problems with this on Ice Glacier.
It works for me, perhaps its a device specific problem.

While I somewhat agree with your post, I agree with jdkoren's more. All of the apps you are blocking ads for were free, free because of the ads that help fund the development of the apps. So I think he's just saying, if you can't block the ads, accept it, you have all those apps at no cost... Everything we experience, this forum, these custom ROMs, market apps, all took great amounts of time and effort, I think sometimes we lose sight of that when we think about open source projects.
Hi All,
Apologies for this mundane question but I've been trying for 2 days to download my official 6810 firmawre (P6810ZSLA1_CSC_TGY.exe) so kindly posted by xenix96. It's on FileFactory. Am I the only person here who hasn't got a premium membership to FileFactory? I'm loathe to pay for it as I've never needed it before and will probably only use it the once - so I'll effectively be paying $12 to download the firmware. But in 2 days of trying I've not managed to get a free download "slot".
If you're all using premium then I'll shut-up and stop being so tight and purchase it also. Just wanted to see what everyone else is doing first.
Thx
i have had the same problems as you. For some reason i cant download some files but trying a different file works just fine, its strange.
Took me a few tries as well. Had to try different ISP's, 3G, wifi, mobile broadband, the works.
But hey it's free, so we really can't complain too much.
Though looking for a better file host might be a good idea, if one can be found with all the recent shutdowns.

True if it wont work you can go there and download it
70% of the sammobile.com P6800 Firmwares are added by me
For example i upload actually the Romania Frimware:
P6800XXLA4_CSC_ROM.exe - Last Modified by Samsung: 07.01.2012 <-- In Progess
......in 50 minutes it is on server and you guys can download it from filefactory
but not on sammobile.com maybe tomorrow
You ask now why ?
Cause it is depending when i will add it on check fus server Check Fus webversion 2.0
If i dont add it on Check Fus webversion 2.0 then sammobile.com will not release so fast as i do it.
But i do that to provide more mirrors for the P6800&P6810 Firmwares for all users over the world.
Actually over 600 users downloaded the firmwares since i start this .....and yes Filefactory got at the moment alot maintanance and upgrades.
And if you didnt read my Post Samsung Galaxy Tab 7.7 GT-P6800 & GT-P6810 ProductCode & HIDSWVER list
...this goes only like this cause some users help me to provide the Firmware stuff for you !! Thanks this this useres by me
Just read following:
FileFactory Support (Support)
What's happening at FileFactory? New update on current problems and future improvements!
Over the past few weeks we have worked tirelessly to resolve upload and download issues. Our engineers have been working 16-18 hour days 7 days a week to resolve all problems. We're glad to say that now we are starting to see results in the form of better operations across the whole site.
We also have many more exciting updates and changes to come so stay tuned, based on user feedback, so we are looking forward to a great 2012.
Here's an update of what's going on:
WEB UPLOADS
Uploads via the web are now much more reliable - our internal testing of hundreds of files last night produced absolutely no errors from small and large files - in total we had 55,000 successful uploads in the past 24 hours
FTP UPLOADS
We recently added ftp2.filefactory.com and are working on making the ftp process faster - FTP problems are normally the result of people uploading huge directories of thousands of (usually small) files without consideration for anyone else - we are working on a way to prevent this from slowing everyone else down. Hint: unless there is a particular reason you need to mirror entire directories, .zip folders instead before uploading
We are also planning on adding more ftp servers in the very near future
REMOTE UPLOADS
We are adding 3 x new remote upload servers this weekend. Again, delays are usually caused by some customers adding hundreds of files at a time which creates bottlenecks and puts everyone else's files in a queue.
ADDITIONAL STORAGE
Our new storage device should come online this weekend
We have 3 x new storage devices arriving next week, which will increase our entire storage capacity by 50%
NEW TORRENT UPLOADER
We are finally rewriting the torrent uploader, starting again from scratch, which will allow for faster downloads of torrents, and you will also be able to choose particular files from torrents instead of having to download the whole torrent. Also most problems are caused by people adding dozens of huge torrents at once so we are working on a way to manage this better as well
NEW TURBO UPLOADER
We are also about to begin rewriting the Turbo uploader - we are going to make this multi-platform so it will run on Windows, Macs and Linux
NEW FILEFACTORY SITE
We are currently revamping the entire FileFactory site, cleaning up page layouts, adding some cool new features and moving our images to a Content Distribution Network to allow faster page load times
NEW FILE MANAGER
Over the next few weeks we are rewriting the file manager - proposed new features include enabling individual files and folders to be password protected, trafficshare enabled, as well as a bunch of great new features. Accounts which have a large number of files will also load much better.
TRANSLATIONS
Over the next few months we are translating FileFactory into many other languages in order to better serve our international customers

Many others like Football offer Firmwares over Filefactory like here [ROMs]HTC Android ROMs over years!
And hes "Thanks Meter" is at 1485 ....so this says for me hes doing well
And its free to download and yes it free from where you download
So feel FREE
Have a nice day ^^
Microsoft just announced today that Windows Phone developers can now unlock their devices for free, with a 2-app sideload limit. Those needing higher limits can grab an account for cheap during the summer ($19 USD).
Just use your Microsoft account with the Windows Phone Developer Registration tool and you should be off and running.
Beginning today we are simplifying the developer phone registration process. Now, any developer can unlock and register 1 phone to load up to 2 apps. Registered developers with Dev Center accounts continue to have the option to unlock up to 3 phones and upload up to 10 apps on each.

This whole thing got me thinking, there might be someway to "abuse" the XAP installer that processes the XAP, since the XAP is downloaded straight from the browser.
Hopefully there's some vulnerabilities in the installer.

I think you're on to something here....
Not sure what you mean by "the XAP is downloaded straight from the browser" - Store apps are downloaded over HTTP (HTTPS actually, with cert pinning to boot) but the only apps I've seen actually install if they were downloaded from a web browser (or via email attachment, or sent using Bluetooth) are company / LOB apps, not store apps or unsigned (homebrew/development) apps.
That said, the XAPs do get processed by the installer (and rejected) anyhow. It's possible there's a vulnerability in that check process; is that what you're thinking of? If so, I don't believe it has anything to do with the news in this thread in particular (although it *might* help to have dev-unlock enabled) but it's a worthwhile path of exploration anyhow. The XAP installer is one of the relatively few parts of the system that has fairly high permissions but is easily attackable. Of course, that means MS will have reviewed and fuzz tested the hell out of it, but we can hope...

The XAP's developed in App Studio are downloaded in the browser on the phone, not from the store, which could prove to be a vulnerability, but there might be cert pinning since App Studio apps require you to install a certificate first. Hopefully someone with more knowledge, like you, could look at it. Just prep a simple app in App Studio and go through the process and see what you'll be able to find.
Maybe Fiddler might help to determinate if any cert pinning is done?
Ah sorry, I wasn't looking at App Studio. I will investigate... but unless they're giving us access to the signing key, or raw access to the XAP, it probably won't work for anything *too* exciting. Still, if it's a way to install signed apps that we write ourselves (to any meaningful degree), there's hope...

If I've understood it correctly, there is possibility to do changes to the XAP.
Note this tool is browser driven - no Windows 8 machine required - if you're not going to modify the source code that is. There are plans on the way for more goodies, so keep posted.

Cool. Looks like I need to send a request to get into the beta. I should do that... see what I get back. If the XAPs aren't signed, they probably won't be useful for breaking anything but the interaction with the browser might be interesting. If they are signed...

It might be possible to find an exploit in the XAP installer that installs the XAPs from the browser, and use that to install an app with higher privileges, and accessing the filesystem and/or the registry with full access?
Actually, that's pretty good. Company apps have lower restrictions, and are easier to install. Also, that's a provxml document... we should see if we can modify it and get it to do anything else interesting for us!
@GoodDayToDie, I was thinking the same thing of the provxml document. That would be EPIC if we could modify it to change registry...
@GoodDayToDie, @snickler I'm gonna try to use fiddler to redirect that request to my own server with an edited file and see what happens. Going to start with setting the MaxUnsignedApp value. Wish me luck

Ohhh please tell me how this works out! I wanted to do the same thing, but I have to wait for MS to get back with my invitation code.
Best of luck!
@snickler No matter how I do, it ends up showing the AET.aetx as a text file. Doesn't matter if it's the original one or the edited one.
Original one is available at: http://www.izz0.eu/AET.aetx
Edited one is available at: http://www.izz0.eu/AET2.aetx
Feel free to try on your own.
@GoodDayToDie, you've got any ideas? You're like a walking knowledgebase ;D
I know it's not relevant to everyone, but I've been contacted by a few people asking what's going on, so I figured I'd just make a post about it.
I decided to move the site to a more powerful server this morning. I regretfully trusted my web hosts "one-click" option and it royal botched things up. To make matters worse, it updated the DNS settings BEFORE the new server was up and running, which is why the site is down. I've reverted back to the old server for the time being, but it will take a while for the DNS change to propagate.
In summary: The site is down. I'm really sorry. I'm working on getting it back up as soon as possible.
Update @ 4:00pm PST: The DNS TTL is finally starting to expire, so the site should be coming back online for most. If it's not up for you yet, it should be within the hour. Again, I'm very sorry for any inconvenience this caused.

Its a great site and resource for all things Fire TV. I've used it many times. Hope you are back up and running soon.
Any chance you could post your DNS records here so I can get to it now?
My 2nd FireTV just got here today and I went to view your guides on how to avoid auto-upgrading (if I'm lucky enough to have an older firmware) and I couldn't reach your page.
Nevermind - I used OpenDNS's cache check to get your working ip (208.113.161.249) and updated my DNS server to hard code it.. Just have to remember to delete it tomorrow..
thanks
Thanks for posting it. I was worried some may have happen. Like amazon tired something.good to know you and the site are ok. Keep up the good work.
its back online yay
Had a few questions about Fire TV news:
Do you know if/when the netflix app will get a new UI? Any recent news on hbo go app? Will they ever allow you to place games on external storage? Those are really the only issues i have with the device. Thanks, love your site.
Thanks for your efforts on your site. Its pretty much the defacto standard for AFTV stuff. I go there at least several times a week.
Hi there everyone,
I have released a new website https://www.webadb.com which allows you to perform all functionality provided by ADB in your web browser without installing anything. No installation, no drivers, nothing. All you need is a Web Browser that supports web usb such as chrome or the new microsoft edge and you are good to go.
Features include:
Apk installation
Interactive shell
Screen Recording
SCRCPY - Control your device from your browser
Device Information
File Manager
Enabling ADB over WIFI
Looking forward to all feedback so that I can continue to make improvements and add new functionality.
This project unaffiliated but based off of the following open source project - https://github.com/yume-chan/ya-webadb.
If you would like to improve this tool, please contribute to that project and the changes will be upstreamed to the website, thank you.
Very handy tool. Is there any way to do custom commands for example? For use of adb shell? Thanks for this [emoji4]

Sure, just go to the Interactive Shell tab on the left side. That will give you access to a fully featured adb shell.

So far the feedback from me is very positive. Everything works flawlessly
I just tried it! Is super awesome and handy!
This sounds cool - though the page crashes out in Firefox rather than showing a useful error.
Security is going to be the major concern here considering what can be done to a device via ADB: Have you made the source code available anywhere?
I tried chrome, xiaomi mia3 in the browser. Does not work
This is really cool! Is there any way to save the video taken with SCRCPY?
This is very tricky. If you grant a website access to ADB it can do anything from installing malware to uploading all your data without you noticing it. Before using it, I would advice everyone to look through the source at https://github.com/yume-chan/ya-webadb/ and build it for yourself!
Other than that, it looks pretty cool and useful!
Can the source be posted in OP?
Is this open source?

Silly Question,
WebADB requires USB in order to work?

Yep, your android device has to be connected to the computer
Nice! Tried in Samsung S8. Not working in chrome (no connection), working in Edge !
The dev just introduced a unskippable AD in the website to take advantage of clicks! This is a no use for me. Avoid this crap at all costs
