I just bought a used Droid Pro, it came with Cyanogenmod 7 on it. I was having some issues with the screen coming back on after turning off the screen, so I reinstalled it. I had the same issue, so I decided to install the stock ROM. I loaded it to my SD card, tried to reboot, and went into recovery. I got a couple of errors, E: Cant open /cache/recovery/command and E:Cant open /cache/recovery/caller. The ROM wont install, and when I reboot, the phone has a black screen after the Motorola logo. My computer wont detect the phone. Any ideas on how to fix this would be greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance.
I don't think you can go back to the stock ROM through CWM (at least, not without a Nandroid backup). You'll need to SBF, using a computer.

Thank you very much. The link you provided fixed my phone, but still had some issues with the screen. Did some more reading and saw that the SD card may have been the culprit. I removed it and rebooted and had no issues. Thanks again.

My scenario:
I updated my N1 to 2.1-update1 by applying an update.zip from the SD card. Everything worked fine for a while until a few days later I turned off my phone. On rebooting, it got stuck at the splash screen. I managed to reboot through the bootloader and got back in but have since had problems with a couple of apps force closing on startup and have been unable to send SMS. I decided that maybe I should start from scratch so rebooted into recovery mode again and wiped data and cache and reapplied the update. My phone will now not boot at all. It consistently gets stuck at the splash screen.
It's not bricked, as I can get to the bootloader and recovery menus but:
a) adb and fastboot won't recognize the phone as being connected
b) on the recovery menu I see "E: Can't open /cache/recovery/command"
c) when going in to the bootloader it complains about not finding PASSDIAG.ZIP
Anyone have any ideas what I can do? I can't connect via adb/fastboot so am not really sure what I can try...
Did you do a nandroid if so I would try to restore and start the update from that point.
I get an error when I go to my bootloader screen asking about passdiag.zip and passdiag.nbh but it hasn't ever caused any problems, it just complains about them. I don't get the issues with the recovery menu or USB though. Fairly sure that doesn't help you, just adding my experience in the off chance it helps someone diagnose.
I don't suppose anyone has any idea what passdiag is?
No one with any idea what passdiag is or what one might do to fix this issue?
Don't worry about passdiag.zip and passdiag.nbh. These files are the ROM dumps if i remember right from Google. Just let that pass. Is your phone unlocked running a RA recovery, or are you still at stock. If unlocked you will have to reflash whatever ROM it was you were using.
So here's how I got to having that error.
Originally I was using the stock ROM. No error.
Then I unlocked/rooted using the guide here. Error started appearing.
After that I flashed Amon-Ra's Recovery: Error still present.
Following that I flashed Cyanogen's Mod. Error still present.
I really would like to get rid of the error, even if it isn't hurting anything. I don't suppose there's a place I could get the files to push to my phone or somewhere in the phone I could tell it to stop looking for them?
Hello,
I downloaded and installed the CM7 update this morning from my RC4 ROM. All went as they normally do when i switch ROMs, clear all cache and data, then install. It installed without error, but it got stuck in a boot loop. I had let the skateboarding android do his thing for almost 20 minutes to no avail. So i powered it off, re ran my steps and this time i got to the "touch the android to begin", but within a few seconds its back to the boot animation.
I have tried several times to re-install that ROM as well as RC4 and i can't get out of the boot loop. Some times it will give me an error that there is something wrong with the update file, and sometimes it goes right along with the install, either way it ends in a boot loop.
Any help will be greatly appreciated.
Thanks!
-Josh
EDIT: i said RC2, i meant to say RC4!
EDIT2: I went for RC1, and it reports (status 7), Installation aborted. Did i some how lock a part of the file system i need?
Ok I'm back up. Here is what i did after messing with it for a while;
1. backed up my SD card (mounted via recovery)
2. went into the partitions menu and formated everything but the boot section (including the SD)
3. re mounted the SD card and copied the CM7 final to it
4. Installed zip from SD
With in minutes i was back up and running
RC4 is broken. Happened to me aswell. Just download stable released yesterday
I have been running the kanged builds of CM9 for a while, but it began to get bogged down recently and would freeze up almost daily forcing a hard shutdown and reboot.
Sometime yesterday, it began to boot only into recovery no matter what option I tried in the Cyanoboot menu. From there I tried a factory reset and wipe dalvik to hopefully get back into CM9 and here's where the strangeness really kicked off.
Clockwork (which was running off emmc) would freeze in the middle of the factory reset just like it would when CM9 was running (the graphics would degrade slightly upon inspection of the screen).
So, I grabbed my old sdcard with clockwork recovery on it to boot from sd, and I run into the same problem again. Freezing before a wipe, factory reset, or install from sd can complete.
Now, after each failed attempt in clockwork (sd and emmc) it sticks at a backlit black screen and after a hard shutdown refuses to boot (sd or emmc) for about an hour, only to repeat the madness again.
Does anyone have any ideas what I can try from here or familiar with a similar situation?
My sd clockwork version is 3.2.something and I've also tried 3.0.1.something.
UPDATE: For reasons unknown, my Nook seems to be booting regularly as of this morning. However, I am still unable to get a successful flash out of any rom. The closest I've gotten to success is stuck in a boot loop. I think from here I'll likely be able to figure it out, but just as before...
Any help is welcome and appreciated!
I had the same problem with the black screen when trying to install different roms on mine. I just kept clicking the power button and after a few minutes it would kick back on every time.
There is an entire thread specifically on this
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=949699
As far as CM9 I can't help you much there. I would just try to install a different rom, and hope that works.
Thanks!
I had seen that thread, but I thought my experience was a different; either way, I've managed past that problem using a method similar to yours.
If this helps any, I have been trying to to 7.2 RC1 for a while as well, but it will not get me any further than the stuck boot screen same as the CM9.
Have you tried to follow the tread on returning it to stock ?? I would reformat and repartition it and return it to stock ... then make sure it runs. After that I would try to reinstall the new roms ...
Just my 2 cents

Have searched the forum and couldn't find any discussion about a similar problem to what i'm having with my phone. This is super weird.
I'm on an official B928 rom. It started some time ago. Whenever i reboot my phone it "resets" to a particular state. Which means - everything i do with my phone before a reboot gets reversed back to a particular state at which my phone "froze". If i delete sms, they come back, if i install programs they are gone, if i uninstall programs - they come back and so on..
I've tried to flash B928 and B552, but i always get an error at the second stage (have tried all possible combinations - with/without the battery, formatting the card). Pink screen is blocked - can't unblock it, because my phone deletes the necessary files after reboot. Can't install CWM for the same reason.
Is that it? I'm out of ideas. If anyone can throw any idea at me or direct me in the right direction i would be very grateful.
Thank you
reboot recovery
advance menu
format /data
take a look if it help
I only have the standard recovery, not cwm, it doesn't have advanced menu.
But even if i try the wipes in it, it does nothing, meaning it doesn't even delete my data.
Thanks
I'm having the same issue with my u8800-51. My thread is here http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2331209 but no suggestions therein have helped, yet.
Ok, i see. I've seen some people restoring their phones with Acronis, but for this you need a working pink screen, which is a no-go for me..
hi all i have recently got myself an s4 upgraded from an s3 which was rooted for nearly a year and half and never had an issue with it.
i rooted my s4 and put a custom rom from this site on it and i love it, i rebooted my phone this evening and it wouldn't boot back up, i put it into recovery and tried formatting the phone and rebooting the rom but the phone kept on giving me and error with E: data/data, i have since managed to get my rom back on it but dont want to reboot the phone to check everything is ok in fear of not getting back into the rom, is there something i can easily do in root browser to sort this issue out?
any help would be most appreciated as i would like the option of rebooting my phone if i feel the need to,
many thanks in advance
