Why not multi tasking - Desire HD General

Why can't we do multi tasking while YouTube is running. It's really annoying.
Any solution?

What do you mean?
Android pretty much multitasks all the time unless there isn't enough memory - Which the desire HD has plenty of.
If its because the stock HTC Music app stops, try using a different music app such as WinAmp.

Guess he meant that when you play something in the youtube app and want to do something at the same time, like pressing the home button and going somewhere else, the app just exits completely and stops playing. It is pretty annoying and my guess is that it's just the app itself that causes that, so feedback towards youtube app developers would be the right address.

Yep its only a matter of programming to implement that... But at least the sound stays on when you turn off the screen in youtube app.

How do you feel about the new google music app?

I downloaded yesterday, and it's ages better than the old stok music app, but i feel its really "heavy" its the app that runs less smooth on my phone, somehting im bummed about is that the album art looks too small, i want it bigger ala winamp also the widget is HORRIBLE , it's been the same since android 1.5, we need more choices, there's not even a previous track button on the widget!
What music app? Android one or HTC? And choose htc music widget, it have back button.

Music fix

Hello... i seem to be having trouble with my music. When i start playing it through the stock player and leave my phone alone to play some tunes... the phone will stop the music after about 3 minutes of playing. I have juice defender running and i set up the music player to continue running after the screen locks... does anyone have any idea what the hell is going on? Thanks for taking the time to help.

Most probably your stock musicplayer is in "auto end list" in task manager app, it autostops the apps in the list at about the time you mentioned. Hope this helps and solves your issue...
I looked at auto end list but it wasnt there. Do you know of any other good music player? I usually use subsonic to connect to my media server at home, it has an option to keep the screen on. but when I'm in the car i like to listen to my tunes without streaming...

PlayerPro
PowerAmp
Winamp
Also for regular Internet Radio, I enjoy using Cherry RPlayer...

No problem, I ended up choosing PlayerPro myself a while back out of those Top 3.
BTW, Grab the "DSP Pack" and you can really have some fun with the equalizer settings added on...

Sometimes auto-ending a certain other app also causes the music to stop. I don't remember what it was, but it may have been photo gallery, or some other such media.

Is there a way to play music from browser with screen off?

Alright so the other night I was showing off my new Nexus 7 to a friend. He's a strong Apple fanboy so naturally we were we comparing several different features between our devices. I showed off Google Now and all that goodness. But I soon found myself missing a feature that he had on his 4S. And that was the ability to play music from a browser or YouTube app while having his screen off.. I'm pretty sure this was the first time I was envious of an iOS product.
Well so the question is, is there any way to play music from a browser while having my screen off? Even when switching tabs in Chrome, the music will stop playing. And no I don't want to download the audio file from the YouTube video using a special app or website.
Thanks for the future advice/info.

Oh yes, the old double tap home button after locking the screen at YouTube trick. It brings up the volume , pause and play buttons, but if you hit play, it streams the audio. Pretty badass

I see, what an ass.
Anyway, PVSTAR, and to a lesser extent StickIt.
There's an app called nextvid that replaces YouTube and does that.
Compatible on the n7, hope that helps.

Not to worry, Apple is removing YouTube from iOS 6. "We're mad at Google and we're going to take it out on our customers!"

[Q] Youtube app running while screen off/locked

Hey guys,
Just wondering how to manage to play music from Youtube while the screen is locked on the Nexus4?
I had a iPhone4 prior and it worked when locking the phone. Locking the screen on the nexus causes the app to pause the music or shut it down.
Im not looking for other apps in order to make this happen, I want to be able to use the Youtube app and just lock the phone.
Someone here on xda modified the YouTube app to make it possible again.
I don't have the link currently, but you should be able to find it with the search function.
Here you go bro is also a HD one too http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1529715

Thanks but im not rooted haha, and I dont want to download an app to listen while lockscreened.
I know this sounds silly but the android team should make it happen cause its convenient

There are many apps for that. Look up "YouTube music player" in the play store and a bunch will come out.

[Q] Dual screen on Nexus 7?

This is my first post, and yes, I really did watch the noob video at the beginning. I browsed through the Nexus 7 General, Nexus 7 Q&A/Troubleshooting, and a few other Nexus 7 forums and didn't find any discussion on this topic. I'm not sure what the term is for what I'm searching for so I admit tthat may have thwarted my search attempts. What I'm referring to is the Galaxy Note's ability to run 2 apps simultaneously, each taking up half the screen. My question is, can that be done on a Nexus 7?

Well, the galaxy note can only do it with s-app's so it's in reality rather gimmicky and not very practical. AOSPA rom has a multi-tasking implementation that you may want to explore, called halo, which works for ANY app. It enables an app to be opened in a small window in the center of the screen: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=I13bKSTrNX0
With an AOKP nav bar (from AOKP or all-in-one roms) you can add a "last app" button that will allow you to quickly switch back and forth between two apps which I feel like is a much more practical form of multi tasking. Just think of a netbook with a 10" screen, you dont have enough screen real estate to have two windows open side by side most of the time. Being able to toggle between two quickly would be the best thing.
Well, the default 'recent apps' button in Jellybean works fine for that, but I watch a lot of hours-long debates on YouTube and hate the way it pauses the video every time I switch briefly to another app (say, to reply to an email or to open a browser). Is there a way to keep YouTube videos running in the background so the audio keeps playing even when the YouTube app isn't showing on the screen, or indeed even when the screen is locked?

There was a YouTube that had that. Last I saw it was when I used Paranoid Android. It would also keep audio on when the screen was off. I'd if it was a modified YouTube app though.

There is also an app in the market calls floating youtube. Popup player.
It plays your youtube videos in a resizeable window.
It will stay playing on top of other apps.
It does have some bugs, but it is free.
