The quality of answers you get in this world is often related to the quality of your questions.
If I was you, I'd try Kekinash's Rooted Stock ROM for a while. If you need extra device support, Fincan seems to be very forthcoming at the moment, he's recently posted additional kernel modules for Kekinash's ROM and is willing to consider requests.
thanks, so your saying the stock rom rooted wont support all devices? And what do the kernals do?

OMG.
BAD BAD
I HAVE ONE Of the rooted near stock 3.2.
Close as stock is best.
Only issue I have had and its with several roms.loss of su but this can be fixed.
Goodluck.
The true answer to your question is there are no true best.
I'm with erica on this. I'm running Kekinash's rooted stock rom myself and have no complaints, not even loss of su.
And if you have to ask about kernels, just stick to the rooted stock roms and experiment no further until you've educated yourself properly about custom roms. There's plenty of material on this site and elsewhere to learn from. Just use the search functions.
Not sure what rom I'm on works great though

Coming from a Nexus One. I know you can achieve root but here is what I want to know:
Has Samsung provided the tools so developers can begin cooking ROMS?
If so, is it possible to cook a Froyo version so we don't have to wait for Samsung's typically lazy *** to push it out?
Is it possible to turn off touch wiz and use stock Android?
These are my primary concerns and I appreciate any help with them.
TouchWiz enhances usability of the phone, and actually adds some useful features. You should check out the video from MobileBurn here:

I don't think it's something you'll really want to turn off.

the closest thing you can get to froyo is the froyo looking launcherpro which also removes the touchwiz 3.0 at the same time making it run faster, i currently have it on my g1 with a 2.1 rom and it's running super quick.
look up "samsung galaxy launcher" and you should find a couple of videos of it running launcher pro on youtube
oh did i mention this app is free and does not need rooting to work?

You got it man, I just picked up mine.... can not say enough how impressed I am. Big kudos to Samsung for the changes they have made. well done.
I haven't updated my ROM in a while, mainly because I don't have the time to. I was running Baked Snack 1.9, but now I want to upgrade to Gingerbread.
There are tons of ROMS in the development forum, and I'm not sure which one to pick. I'm not really concerned with how a ROM looks, since I'm going to load LauncherPro on there anyway.
So, here are the requirements that I have:
- Running Gingerbread
- 4G, GPS, both cameras supported
- Good battery life
- HDMI mirroring
- No FPS limit
- Preferably can run CIFS Manager
Is there anything else that I should be looking for??
Thanks in advance!

FFS people do some research test a few roms and pick the one you like the best
we don't all have the time for that. i could easily spend hours researching and trying them out, which is all time that my phone is half functional, but there are higher priorities on my plate.

OFFICIALLY CM7 says it supports 4G.
However, my experience with CM7 WiMax has been shoddy at best. If you move from a 4G area to a non-4G area then back, most of the time the 4G breaks and you must reboot your phone to reconnect. Even if you stay in a 4G area, sometimes the 4G simply drops out, and you are stuck with both 4G and 3G icons on the screen, once again having to reboot to restore the 4G. There are some work-arounds, but it's definitely not stable, even in RC3. Don't even get me started on trying to wireless tether via 4G on CM7, even if you are lucky enough to get it to connect, you get about 2-3Mbits down whereas on Sense with Wireless Tether for Root Users you get 5-6 Mbits down.
Very annoying.
Anyway, I've given up on CM until the 4G issues are ironed out. I'm not paying an extra $10 a month for 4G if it's not stable enough to use.
My recommendation is to hop over to a MikFroyo ROM. It's as stable an fast as I've seen with everything working. You can apply themes and mods to get the Gingerbread look you want while you wait with the rest of us for the EVO to get official 2.3 support.
Good luck and hope this helped!

there are tons of reasons to root, as you probably know. i would like to use CIFS manager, tether, and use HDMI mirroring.
i was not aware that the stock rom now has unlocked FPS, but this was why i went to a non-stock rom in the first place. but now that i've gone to non-stock, i find that they are faster and have better battery life than stock.
Very tru they are way better with way more options. Idk wat the cifs is. But as far as tether goes there is pda-net for stock. But imho half the fun of rooting is trying all the roms from all the fabulous devs here on xda. It really doesn't take to long to see if a particular Rom is for u. Especially if u have TB. Then if a Rom isn't for u just nand restore to ur old Rom and in my experience its about 20 mins to try it and restore if its not for you. Plus everyone will have their own opinion about a Rom so in order for u to kno which one is for u u gotta try it

I gotta stick up for the OP here a little bit. He's asking for our help, and that's not a helpful comment to ask him "Why root?"
Not having to pay $30 to tether your EVO to a PC was reason enough for me. Or to overclock. Or to theme it to the max. There are many reasons to root.
This is a community for people who want to make the most of their phones. That is why we root.
Please don't come to XDA and ask "Hurr durr why did you root if you're not gonna blah, blah."
If you can't say something nice, don't say anything at all, amirite?

Now I'm not trying to be rude. I see this same q on here all the time and ppl usually give their opinion about the Rom they like. Then proceed to say they need to try them to find the one they like. And op is saying he doesn't have time to do that. It's just odd to me that ppl go and root their phone then ask for others to tell them wat the best Rom is. And that's a subjective term. I agree that paying for tethering and all the other charges are bs but honestly if ur gonna root its cool to ask for ppls opinions about the "best" Rom but if u don't have time to try them y bother. So somebody says so and so Rom is the best then he trys it and hates it so y not just try them urself. Usually the op for the roms will tell u what works and not working

Sorry if I jumped the gun in assuming you were rude. As you can see, I've been lurking the forums for a few months, but today is my first time posting. I can understand if you get tired of "What's the best ROM?" threads, because you are right, the "best" ROM doesn't exist, only the best ROM for YOU.
Ya no worries. I lurked for a while too. Now I post rarely trying to help when I can but I'm just a guy loving all the devs great work. And if u want a custom Rom u should c which one u like. Nobody can tell u which Rom will b best for you. Unless u can't think/decide was best for you

Is anyone out there using Drod's blurrybread rom? If so, is the CRT animation enabled? Or can I just use the same file I used for the stock gingerbread for it?
Yes. Yes. and Yes it works well.. ..I'm not sure what file your referring to for stock gingerbread though.
I was refering to the zip file that I flashed to enable it for the stock gb but since it's already there I wont need it. I'll be flashing as soon as I can
+1 for blurrybread.
My only complaint so far, is my swype license doesn't want to stick around after reboots and has to be regenerated.

well... that's a bumber. at least it didn't seem like he had done a ton with blurry bread anyway. hopefully someone with the skills will do the same. it was really just some "basic" tweaks to the base rom. nothing particularly major. i'd do it but don't have that level of skill... but surely someone out there will do something similar. i hope at least.
Ok guys, so this thread is to help those who are undecided like me on which of these two roms to use. I am looking for input from people who have experienced both of them and which one do you prefer and why. Also which one is fastest, has better battery performance, best features, looks etc. Basically what sold you to that rom.
PLEASE dont take this as some sort of competition between this to DEVS, as I am sure that both of these roms are great, and maybe it comes down to personal prference, but I will like some input from the guys that have tried them both.
Im currently using WB 008 2.3.3 and it rocks!!

I know a lot of people in these forums would tell me to try out each ROM and see what I like best, as I did with my EVO 3D. I just got my Acer Iconia A500 yesterday, and rooted this afternoon after careful reading and downloading all necessary stuff. Anyway I want a STABLE, sexy, easily themeable ROM and I'm not too familiar with Honeycomb yet, as my EVO 3D is still Gingerbread. Any suggestions? I would really appreciate it.
TIA!
kjy2010's Icy Faux 3.2.1 was a great, solid ROM. From what I understand, though, he is no longer here at XDA. With that in mind, Civato's Flexstriker is pretty damn good. I haven't really used any of the other ROMs enough to give an opinion on them.
Please install Thor's ROM v14.2 . It's stable, sexy, and handy. I tried Honeylicious also, and I can say that Thor's ROM offer much more useful function like the quick bar toggle and shut down menu while being smoother and quicker .
the best
If u want speed, stable rom, accurate gps, easy customizable and clean easy interface give a try to Lightspeed 2.1 with stock kernel.... smooth like butter, no crashes at all... very very good rom
There are not many ROMs available. You can try every one
As for me, I tried a couple of ROMs and decided to keep on the stock one. Just rooted it and removed all Acer apps.
Yeah like other have said, try each one and be sure to test out all functionalities you would use.
I like KYJ and CIVATO roms but for the life of me I can't get GPS to work. Only ROM that work for me is Thor 14.2 but that does not mean you will encounter the same issue as I have.
In my opinion if you want a ROM that is all the things you described civato's flexstriker base 8 R2 is really nice and its got a few different theme choices and also thors ROM 14.2 is a really good ROM as well just not as much with the theming
+1 to this.

If you want a rom, suited to your needs, then download a base rom, and take the time to learn how it works.
Hit up the dev threads, and the mod and android chef threads.
Learn how to change it to what you want.
This is how you learn things. Learn how to de-compile, and manipulate xml.
Know what images are called in particular situations.
You said in your OP, you wanted to know how to change things, to make it sexy.

I was running KJY's ROMs, but then when he stepped away for a while during the holidays, I suspected what could happen next (and it did -- he permanently left). So after that, I went back with ezterry's 3.2.1 "stock-ish" ROM, removed a few more things I didn't want, and then used ADW Launcher EX to pretty things up. I've been using ADW EX on my A500 since almost day one of ownership. There are TONS of ADW themes out there, and there are plenty of other customizations you can do in ADW EX that will make it look night and day different than the stock HC launcher.
