Dear Dev's , thank you for all your hard work making Android work on our beloved HD2 devices.
At the moment I have Hyperdroid CM7 v3.0.1 , best rom in my opinion, but still missing 720p recording...
I would like to know what, how, where and all the stuff that needs to be looked at
in order to bring true HD 720p recording with autofocus and hopefully zoom while recording.
I know that it might sound a lot but for me that is the most important thing I would love to have fully working in my phone as so many others users I'm sure.
If some of the recognized dev's will give me a hint where to look and how , etc I would like to try and get it working, using my own device for testing purposes.
Knowing that HD rec works in WP7 , can we create drivers that will work with the WP7 ones to get it working under android?
Thank you all and hopefully someone will be able to help me and others.
Try a JW MIUI rom instead ;-)
It has HD camcorder, though no zoom while recording...
That one has only 800x480 which is 480p not 720p....Hyperdroid CM7 has same resolution and almost all android ports have it, but so far no 720x1280 with 25-30 fps.
Cheers.

I read an article from engadget saying that someone managed to tweak the camera via the OS on the Nexus One to record 720p videos. Since they both have 5mp sensors, would it be possible to do the same? The only difference is the OS, so the way we would have to accomplish this would be much more difficult I assume. It would be awesome if it could be done.

the hd2 camera can record 720p videos the problem is in the windows os it hardly supports wvga mp4
Not going to happen. I'm guessing drivers will need to be written, and such in order to even get decent playback on the FPS. I wonder if there are any SD-card requirements for the N1 modification such that it needs to be Class 6 to ensure fast-write speeds.
doesnt look great even though its 720p though, probably due to bad light. I wonder if we can tweak the HD2 to at least record 720p to play back on another device such as a PC.
yeah i've been wondering the same
Same here, used the "Search" before starting a new Thread and found this one
just saw this, id be willing to donate to anyone able to get 720p on the hd2.
it would be nice, but i would honestly never use it. but for bragging purposes, i think it would be great.. haha
That would be awesome if someone could figure out how to make Windows shoot 720p, they would be my hero.
My roommate is about to get the 4th Gen iPhone, and I want to make sure that mine is in every way equal to or better than his, so I don't have to hear continuous Apple Elitism.

Honestly, why do people feel the need to compare phones? They're for different people with different tastes. If he feels the need to completely tell you how your purchase was horrible or that your phone is inferior to his, tell him to grow up and get a life or something.
And you my friend, shouldn't be bothered with trying to "prove" your phone to him. That's just downright silly.
What would we need to get this project started? We do need to know where the drivers are located at and their corresponding registry entries, as well as any registry strings that could be useful in accomplishing this.
Do you really need extra video resolution?!
At the end of the day, 720p doesn't really mean better quality, it means a larger video res. Its almost like the megapixel myth everyone believes...
Hmmm, we can still try.

impossible on wm6.5 sad to say that ,windows doesnot support this resolution
Oh well lol.
the current camera app doesn't, in as much as it sits on top of winmo and isn't setup to do so. If windows can handle larger resolution pics then why not video?. has anyone tried hacking the camcorder app and the windows registry to see if it can be bastardized to do so?.
Note, video is about frame resolution and speed, if you increase the frame resolution you increase the quality.(if the cpu can handle it) The camcorder app is effectively taking still photos at 640x480 and sticking them together nothing more, theoretically if we manage to increase the resolution before stitching it should work. However there is the matter of codecs / compression, not only would winmo need to be adjusted but the codec / compression algorithum too. I am sure it could be done but it might be a mammoth task.
Well the HD2 has no HDMI output & its screen is only 800x480 so the only point of 1280x??? playback is for bragging rights
Similar issue with the iphone4, like whats the point of HD if the screen is so small you wont see the detail. Is it a higher resolution but smaller in size to HD2
Ive tried play 720 on my HD2 with a few different codecs/players & the best I got was stuttery playback.
Well if anyone has tried play 720p on a desktop PC with anything less than 1.6ghz then it will stutter. Although is a PC a whole different ballgame?
I think what would be nice for the HD2 would be 800x480 video recording with a few different codecs/bit-rates to choose from

Huh, because people then take the video and play it back on their computer, or put it online, like with any camcorder?

Ahh yer of course, d'oh!
Would be nice to have HD recording for playback on a pc
Doubt the quality would be brilliant, but its a phone heh heh
hehe, the whole point of tinkering IS just b/c u can do it.
y put android on the TP2, just b/c
hehe
why give the nexus one 720p
just b/c it can handle it
Currently, I'm running froyostone and the camera app only displays quality as "3mpx" when in reality the HD2 has a 5mpx one.
Which android build allows full camera quality? Is this the type of thing a new zimage would fix or is it more of a build issue?
It's kind of driving me crazy.... I've built a mostly functional daily use build where everything but the full camera (and WiFi hotspot, which I know is being worked on) is working.
Also, what's the story with 720p video recording? Is the HD2s camera capable of that resolution?
If anyone would like to see the steps I took to make my daily use build, a tutorial is on my website but as a new user, I am unable to post links.

There are already builds with the full 5MP camera working (mattc nexusleo, for example).
Obviously the Leo's camera is able to take 720p videos, and in theory even 1080p, in fact 1920*1080 is something like 2MP... The problem is in codecs and CPU usage, but soon we'll have 720p as the N1 and the Desire have.. And probably we'll never see 1080p because it's too big to calculate proprely for the CPU, and it would take too much space on the SD, too...
mattc NexusLeo v1 has the camera working perfectly at 5mpx.
I don't want to use no sense ROM anymore. The interface is very crude.
Is there any solution for HTC sense ROM with 5MP camera?

Each to their own, but I think the Android 2.2 interface with LauncherPro is superb.... I am fed up with the HTC Sense look, its like WinMo (and I am not going back there again! !!! )
If you are willing to pay for an app then vignette will not only give you full resolution but will give you a much more robust camera app with a ton of features and much better jpeg compression

Ok, i can see 2 o 3 topics talking about this, but anything specific, anything.
On some roms of android you can see HD recording ( soon ) or ( not yet )
And other people says NOES!! It's imposible to do this...
Okay guys, please...
Anyone, can tell me with WORDS and SPECIFY if is that is posible.
yes or not, and WHY....
Thanks for all Android under HD2 developers, and sorry for the repost, i need to clean some things...
And by the way, please forgive my bad english, and thanks again.
afaik its possible. not the camera limits it, its the bad WM driver.
other devices like the nexus one or the desire have got the same sensor and are 720p capable.
so why shouldnt it work with hd2 on android with the right driver?
DN41
It would depend if the camera sits on a bus fast enough to have the bandwidth to write the HD recording to the SD card. so it may not only be drivers - as the HD 2 was never intended to record 720p it may be the case that the camera communicates on a slower bus and wont be capable. Or we could be lucky

I love my htc hd2, with windows mobile, and more with android.
If the developers can implement the HD recording, will be GREAT! and i can love more mi HD2
you say's it's possible, the CPU are capable, and the camera the same.
Ok the finally answer is, Can't do HD recording for no compatible driver? or a better optimitzation of the actual driver. ( supose )
I can't wait for the nand ROM, will be great every way
Software-wise it is possible. Hardware-wise I don't really know.
its possible, and i've read that people are working on getting the drivers right to actually have this working.
although you might actually find that you'll prefer the lower resolution recording, because even though the resolution may be higher on the HD recording, this could potentially mess up the picture quality itself.
I'm not a dev or anything, but that's just what i've read from various threads
if they can port evo rom, can' they port the camera drivers if its the same camera?

Evo is 8mp leo is 5mp so I think the drivers are different.
Sent from my HTC Vision HD2
it's possible, both software and hardware.
whether you'd want 720p recorded from a phone anyway would be another question. being a photographer and videographer myself, i can tell you that a video camera is a lot more than just computing power of ur device. not to mention that the optics on the HD2 is just mediocre, the image sensor also isn't the greatest.
Hi Guys!!
I installed Hyperdroid Cm7 Android Rom on my device about a week back.
Everything is working fine except the camera
I mean its working but it is not taking pictures as clear and sharp as WM 6.5 used to take
I didn't find any fix or patch for this and also tried some apps like HDR and Vignette but still quality aint that great .
Is there any method or solution to the problem ??
Or do i have to live with a below average camera??
agree
Yeap I agree with you. WM6 pictures seemed to look more sharply and with android it's hard to get as good picture as WM6 took. Pictures are a bit blurry when taken ( I know that there is a potion for sharpness and that stuff but still, pictures are not as good quality as on WM6). It's hard to get clean picture, just a little hand shake and pictures would be nasty, that didn't happened on WM6.
I think that there is nothing you can do unless some dev gonna fix/produce new libs etc. Well you could try different builds, I have also tried WM7 but for me pictures looks even worsen than on Android.
Agree - I have the same experience :-(
has anyone compared the picture quality of hyperdroid cm7 and typhoon cm7 ??
cuz i was planning to try typhoon cm7 just to check the camera but if someone has already done that, i wud be nice to know !!
in typhoon pictures are better, also in miui builds pictures and camcorder are good.

i get installed android 2.3.3 on htc hd2 tmobile usa
but my video camera is not working at all. it just gives error.
camera - it view mirror image.
here is installed s/w info on my mobile
android 2.3.3

kernal 2.6.32.15_r9-gd0fb339

cpu info-armv7 processor rev 2 9v71)
mod ver cyanogenmod-7.0.2.1-desire[typhoon_v3.1.3-Magldr]
build no-GRI40
I had that build too and if i remember well the camcorder was a little buggy now and then. Now i'm happy with typhoon 3.4.0 magdlr.
As for the pictures i often use Camera 360 Ultimate, it has some amazing features like burst shots and anti-shake mode.
Just try out the contrast, saturation and sharpness settings of your cam.
I take definitely better pics with Android than with WM6.5.
(Have atm no better pic on my HD2 )
Try WP7 and you gonna cry for its camera handling software. I loved WM 6.5, I even loved more Android (I had a few) but WP7 rulez when it comes to camera.
And 720p recording is just awesome.
Too bad there is no android which can handle it so far. :S
Hi there! Finnaly I've got my new Defy with red lense So I'm looking for a rom with 720p recording and switching music like in Cyanogenmod. Of course, it'd be nice if rom even exist...
Best wishes,
Hell.
720p record is with MSGinger. For me best is v2.1. I have Antutu 2603 @1.1GHz smooth and beautiful ROM, and the best battery lasting
I know that, I'm using MS2Ginger 3
But I want to switch music just like in cyanogenmod. So I'll try to port it to CM...
If someone could help me, it'd be nice
