Volume key map hack - Nexus S General

Hi can anyone help me out my power button has gotten spoilt. Is there any way I can use the volume keys to wake and make the phone sleep.
Any help would be appreciated.

If you're using CM or other CM based rom then you can unlock using menu button.
You need to enable it from CyanogenMod settings.

nope im on carbon v1.1
Also i have cynogenmod 7.1 in my sd card but i can't control anything in CWM recovery coz the power button is not working.

Try twrp recovery. You can flash it via terminal and in that recovery the home soft key acts as the power button.
Good luck

Thanks will try.
I would've preferred if there was a flashable zip i could use to enable those settings.

you can use rom manager to reinstall your backup

The clockwork recovery also functions with soft keys.
Menu and home for up and down and search for select.
Sent from my Nexus S using XDA App which costs money.

Ok thanks.

go to the market and download Fix Broken Power Button
its that simple. it'll solve all you're problems
no need for hacks!

If you use WidgetLocker, you can set it to wake on volume key press.

thanks for the info guys.

Dunno about nexus s, but ns4g can use the softkeys for CWM 5.0.2.0.....no need for power button

So do you resolve?

Yep as of now i am using CM7.1.0.1 but fix the power button app also works properly.
@hp420 even on the nexus S we can use softkeys in CWM.

Forced upload is activated when you on press Home + Vol up + Power. You have to press Home + Vol up + Vol down + Power to boot into recovery mode.

Another option is to use an app like "Quick Boot" which allows you to reboot your phone directly into recovery without any hardware buttons.

[ROM][ICS][AOSP] Lenovo Ideapad K1 - R2

For those trying to load the R2 Image using CWM you need to put the update file in /mnt/sdcard2/ that is what shows up in the CWM interface. I did it and it worked for me.
selecting the image to boot?

my home button also as no effect when in CWM recovery ?

Is it possible to change the options displayed when we long press the power button?

All other phones I have give me the option to restart the phone, but not on the N4.
Is there a way to show the "Restart" option when the power button is long pressed without rooting and installing custom rom?
Thanks.
Short answer: Nope
The Restart/Reboot or even Boot to recovery is a feature of most Custom ROMs and is not built with Android.
But as the Nexus 4 has no handy battery to move you have to hold the power button for several secons which then reboot the phone. That should be the easiest way to solve your 'problem'.
HTC also includes those features in Sense in its power button options. It can be done with a fairly simple mod and eventually I'm sure someone will post one in the dev section if it not already in there.

Thanks.
I don't know why is it not in vanilla Android. HTC, Samsung phones have the option.
For me, I use the Restart button more than the "Power Off" button.
I use Power Toggles from the Play Store to restart, reboot and get to recovery.

I use an app called Quickboot. It gives you the option to reboot, reboot into bootloader, reboot into recovery, etc.
+1 for Quickboot...simple and effective!

[Recovery]CWM for Samsung Galaxy SIII mini - official

Few days ago an official CWM recovery was made from the ClokworkMod team for our device. Here you can find the link for the site to download or you can download the ROM Manager app from the play store. It's version 6.0.2.7 and it is the latest version.
It's official so don't ask if it work, cos it works.

This has nothing to do with me, it's not my work, i'm just sharing the info!

Find a backup of original recovery.img for i8190 and put it on your external sd.
Use Terminal emulator with "dd if=/storage/extSdCard/recovery.img of=dev/block/mmcblk0p21" command, and it will be written to your recovery partition.
What different between CWM recovery and original recovery?
Is both support three key combo reboot? Volume up + home + power when phone starting..... or how?
Which is better for usage?

i'm install cwm and uninstall tool : http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2093727 but increasing custom binary count : 1 how to reset ????
You can't reset it not yet.
Why did you even flash it with Odin? You should've asked me to make a flashable zip with stock recovery, like the ones you saw in other CWM topics.
But most importantly, why did you reflash stock recovery in the first place?
I`m not able to access CWM recovery mode by holding down the 'HOME' + 'VOLUME UP' buttons and press the 'POWER' button for about 5 seconds . The phone show me a black screen and reboot again , if try again to enter recovery mode I face same reboot , if no key are pressed is just booting normally . Strange is that TWRP recovery is working perfectly with the combination of vol up + menu + power
