My Windows seems to be unable to unpartition and format a partitioned SD card. So I always had to get some linux live CD to perform the job. Now I found a tool that can do that fast in windows. So for all who like me are not the linux pros here it is:

1) What class can support on NAND android HD2? Can i get class 10 better transfer speed to install nand android for my HD2 ?
2) Can show the step to format ext4? I tried MiniTool Partition Manager home edition, it only can format to ext3. Downloaded gparted... but i dunno how to use it. Izzit the file need to burn into a CD and run it? Something like run other OS from CD ?
1) You can use any class you want.
2) There is plenty of guides on partitioning your card, just check some of the roms threads that use ext4. Also most of the ext4 roms also support ext3 which can be easily done via CWR. And yes, gparted can be run via livecd.
I found this !!
1- Download this file and burn the to a cd or dvd as iso.this is a free
http://sourceforge.net/projects/gpar...5.iso/download
2-Put the cd/dvd in ur computer dvd/cd reader and boot the computer from the cd
then follow the screen options.
this will load the sofware u just downloaded
3-when u fisnish a screen will pop and will show u ur hard disk from computer
now if u dont see ur sd card put it in side the sd card reader and press the left botton on the pop up screen selet device and select the sd card ,now make ur partition
Yeah yeah ~! I found this on imilka thread !!
Hey guys,
I decided to setup my sd card today cause my phone internal memory was constantly running out. I followed the stickies on how to partition the SD using EASEUS. After I partitioned the app2sd partition, i booted up my phone. The phone says there is no sd card. So i rebooted the phone and mount my SD card through recoverymod. I can still see my sd card and files inside of it, but it only has 7GB left instead of 8GB. EASEUS too only detects only one partition of 7GB. Other then mounting the storage through recoverymod's Mounting USB Storage, the sd card cant be mounted anywhere else. Recoverymod shows Error: failed to mount /sdcard for all functions that require the sd card.
Has anyone came across this problem and fixed it ?

It seems that your sdcard is corrupted.
Try to backup all data and reformat all partitions in linux
Windows can't recognize second partition on sdcard & it can sometimes mess up the partition.
Try GParted (google it).

I tried browsing my SD card through GParted ( linux version and boot cd version), and all of them shows only 1 partition of 7gbs. One G is still missing and sd card still fails to work .

Did you make a backup of your sd before creating the sd ext partition
? Should be written in each tutorial concerning sd ext creation.
Otherwise your data is no more.
As already written, windows is not able to read a sd ext partition. its fully right, that your fat32 partition shows only 7gb, the other 1gb is used from the sd ext and not viewable by windows.
...to create a sd-ext very easy go into cwm-advanced-format sd card and chose 1gb ext 0 swap.

Try this :
Backup all data in your micro SD.
Open & boot your computer using Gparted Linux / Parted Magic Linux / any other linux that has GParted / Parted inside its LiveCD
Run Gparted.
Delete all partitions.
Options:
Create sd-ext partition using GParted :
Create 1 fat32 Partition (as Primary) & adjust the size to your liking
Create 1 ext3/ext4 (as Primary...check if your android kernel support ext4) & adjust the size to your liking (usually 1 - 2 GB is enough)
Create sd-ext partition using CW Recovery:
Create fat32 Partition (as Primary...use all space)
Boot HD2 into AD Recovery
Go to Advanced menu
Format & choose sd-ext partition options
Flash your fav. ROM
Notes:
I personally like Parted better than GParted as it's a lot quicker & more advanced options (GParted is only a front-end for Parted).
Parted is for advanced user & TUI.
If you want to try Parted, make sure you read the manual & understand everything related to your actions (open console / terminal & type : man parted)
Use Parted using Root access (open console / terminal & type : sudo parted).
Use it with caution as it can wipe all of your hard drive data !
For more info about Parted try this link :

It's happen when i used to partition my sdcard through cwm 3.0,i wonder, why they put that features in cwm when it is not really tested...Now im back to 2gb sdcard :'(
Have you tried to reformat the card through any linux distro? It's way better than the Windows formatting software. I suggest you to try out a LiveCD (for example Linux Mint Live CD), and reformat the SD through GParted.
Ok i'll try...Thnx in advnce mate....
Hello,
i got my memory card locked on hd2, when i launch hd2 with memory card in it sayes: Storage card not working;
I tried installing "back to the future" rom - installed unlocker - tried unlocking but it sayes it's not locked(probably not recognizing sd), hard reset/reset you phone - result in: instead of showing it not locked - it sayes no sd card found.
All the time in "about" settings the free memory is not more then 30mb(depending on rom) - memory card is 2gb, so it's deffinatelly not recognized.
When i do mass storage via magldr/use adapter for microSD and connect it to pc via card reader - pc states that card needs format, but gives error that it's write-protected(with both protected/not modes on sd) - doesn't allows to format, disk manager/partition magic/partition wizard - show various results, but they cannot format the sd card, eventhough partition wizard shows 1partition only on sd and it's 1,3gb.
Tried formatting with nokia n97 mini - formats successfully, but shows 30mb total and makes it free - after plugging to a pc/hd2 - same results as previously happen.
My thoughts: i have 3 partitioned sd card(dk how this happened) with 30mb/1,3gb/rest partitions, and wp7 sd card unlocker doesn't recognize all partitions and cannot unlock it for me, but i dk why n97 does not format it successfully then :/
Looking forward to hear your thoughts,
Paul
Edited:
and yes, forgot to mention, i have tried mbrclean from both magldr/partition wizard - same result
did you try a program called SDFormatter
there are a few overwrite settings that maybe will work for you.
otherwise i'm wondering if linux would see and correctly reformat the disk for you.
you could run a livecd linux distro that wouldn't even have to be installed on your computer.
good luck
use easus partition manager and delete partitions and use format again
SDformatter - i have been using it all the time, same results with diff settings, easus partition master - same results as with other partition apps - it sees only 30mb partition(as same as n97 mini), currently i'm downloading ubuntu distro and will try partitioning sd card over ubuntu, hopefully it works, gonna post results soon
Ubuntu 11.10 - disk manager shows only 1partition of 32mb - it can't be formatted successfully, mbr partitioning system cannot be applied successfully - only non partition applied - but it still 32mb and hd2 doesn't recognize that 32mb partition, gonna go use hirens boot cd partition apps - if i wont have success with them - probably sd card broken :/
did you try gparted in ubuntu??
sorry this stuff isn't working out
i formated my sd card with nokia n97... everything was ok... Just find some partition manager and format the sd card with it...

hello everyone
if you have a dead MicroSD that your pc doesnt recongizes it the SD Association has made a software to fix it...
You just download and install SD Formatter on your Windows/Mac pc ,
the software will detect automatically what kind of SD card is and will give you the options of how to format the card...after the process is complete and your sd card is working again hit thanks
The SD Formatter was created specifically for memory cards using the SD/SDHC/SDXC standards. It is strongly recommended to use the SD Formatter instead of formatting utilities provided with operating systems that format various types of storage media. Using generic formatting utilities may result in less than optimal performance for your memory cards.
The SD/SDHC/SDXC memory cards have a "Protected Area" on the card for the SD standard's security function. The SD Formatter does not format the "Protected Area".

Looks like you're SOL if you're running Linux.. that's a shame.
I've always just used parted and fdisk and never had a problem with it. If there is a proper way to do this, do any UNIX gurus know the proper way to format an SD card?

I don't think there is a "proper" way to do it for us, other than something like fdisk. There's also Gparted or kde-partionmanager to make formatting & partitioning easier. They'd properly still hit the "protected area" though. Is this "protected area" they mention in the first 512 bytes???
