Hi,
I upgrade my samsung s GT-I9000 from froyo (2.2.1) to gingerbread (2.3.4), after i update it, i just cannot dial to the ussd codes like my operator balance number, it says "USSD Code Running" and then appear a window telling me i should call to another phone number, which is by the way the external unlock phones balanced call number, so it looks like i have a unlock external phone, which is actually not truth... i read thousands of forums but i cannot find the answer....
Please help....
Eduardo

by the way i made a previouly instalation and i installed the cf-root kernel, then i reinstall and i didn't install it again
i haven't made an factory reset by the way
thanks for your attention
eduardo
I dont really know about these codes so all i can give you is generic advice that should work, and if it doesn't hopefully someone that knows more, or notices that i missed something can advise.
Do this in this order and see if it changes anything...
Check csc code using nitrality (an app on market, go to tools change csc) or by typing *#272*your imei# If you dont know your csc code use the search or go to samfirmware.com tools/firmware/android/galaxy s i9000 letter codes scroll to bottom (3 letter codes and look for it) I think the more specific ones for you carrier are obtainable using the search here in xda. NOTE: CHANGING CSC CODE WILL FACTORY RESET YOUR PHONE
Check if codes work
Delete the cache by going into recovery mode..Turn off phone. Once off hold down the vol up, home and power button untill you see the first screen saying samsung sgs (usually black and white)...
Select wipe cache partition using the vol keys and press on the power button to select
whilst in this mode go to advanced and wipe dalvik cache partition. Next carry on selecting go back until you get back to the first menu and it says reboot system and select...
Check codes...
Didn't work? Probably best to factory reset now. You can make a backup of your applist using "app list" from the market, and if you want to backup the data and stuff you can use titanium backup, select which apps you want to backup, do not do batch, takes longer but better in my opinion. (Also there are many threads on how to backup use search)
Do a factory reset, either via the settings menu or recovery menu...
Doesn't work?
Flash a stock firmware through odin, with a pit file and make sure repartition is checked. Let it finish...
Does it work? No then I don't know what else to do, hopefully someone else can...
Let us know what happens

hello guys,
here's a list of questions I have compiled which were bothering me since i bought my SGS, hope you take your time and answer these:
What is "root"-ing. How different is it from flashing a firmware on motherboard and installing an OS on to a hard drive?
Does rooting an android device kill its warranty?
Which way is the best and reliable way to root my SGS?
How do I bring back my SGS to Factory state after I root my phone?
Is there a way that I can download the AOSP off the android site and install it on my phone.
I'm with O2 (UK) and I'm required to send blank text to a number. My SGS doesnt allow me to send blank texts. How do I send blank texts? :/
How do I integrate my contacts with the ones from Facebook/Google, when I dont want all the contacts from other sources to be shown in my contacts?
regards,
emc
Quick answers:
1. Root = full control of os ( linux superuser capability) it has nothing to do with flashing firmwares
2. YES
3. search the forum or google for Galaxy s rooting (very easy 10 min max)
4. firmware reflash or
*#*#7780#*#*
This code can be used for a factory data reset. It'll remove following things:
Google account settings stored in your phone
System and application data and settings
Downloaded
5. no. that is vanilla android with no drivers. look for vanilla custom rom for SGS on forum
6. I work for a carrier in Romania so i know : IT DOESN'T MATTER IS YOU PUT TEXT IN IT (just put a letter in it and send)
7.CONTACTS->Menu-> Display options
Hope it helps. Good luck.
thanks, your answers were helpful, but raised a few more question now.
if rooting has nothing to do with flashing firmwares, why does one have to reflash fimware to return to factory state? (can you explain technically?)
I still need to figure out how to setup friends in contacts, I've already enabled contacts from facebook/google.. What I wanted to know is how do I filter people from the list so that I can see only selected of them in my contacts and not all?
-----------------------------------
edit:
just saw that my Kies asked me to upgrade to JM1. should I do it?
If I do it will *#*#7780#*#* bring my phone back to JF3 (default)? or will it bring to JM1

You don't HAVE to reflash the firmware technically, rooting basically just overwrites a few files (generally, the kernel). Technically, it should be possible to simply revert the files to unroot the phone. But the only reason you would probably want to unroot anyway is to send the phone in for service, and first thing they'll do is reflash your phone with a firmware which is known to work anyway.. So you might as well.
In regards to the warranty status after rooting, it's actually a grey area as to whether it affects the warranty. If you flash with the I9000M rom, yes, Samsung probably wont be impressed. It is always better to reflash with clean firmware before returning it to service, but unless there is evidence that rooting messed up the hardware on your phone, it's probably unlikely they would reject warranty. But better to be safe.
I don't think Samsung encrypted the bootloader sequence, and had they been concerned, they would have probably disabled USB debugging within the firmware.
ok thanks ^_^
now a few more questions:
whats a clockworkmod recovery?
whats a samset?
whats an odin?
do you suggest me to upgrade my firmware?
how do i backup my current firmware?
If it ain't broke, don't fix it is my moto . Do you experience any problems with your handset ? Like lags , lockups or anything of that sort? If you don't, then I think its better if you leave it as it is. Just apply the lagFix if you want to, but I see no reason to flash your phone to a different version right now.
I have flashed many phones before (where it was much riskier than Galaxy flashing) But I still didn't flash my Galaxy S , because I simply dont see the need to change to another 2.1. I'm waiting for Samsung to release official froyo 2.2. I suggest you wait for that too.
my phone lags a lot
I share phonix view and motto. If you do experience problems post symptoms before doing something like reflash or factory reset.

Lag can be easely fixed with a patch. You get root and lag patch in one pack. Will try to post a link.

updgraded my phone and did a factory reset, phone DOES NOT GOES BACK TO JF3!
just for your info
that's because u upgraded/flashed a complete new rom which replaced the old one there for factory reset will give u the latest firmware/upgrade that u have installed.
Hi I am thinking of taking the O2 firmware off my phone and going for Samsung stock. I am on JE2 just now so should I go straight to JE2 stock or the new JE7? The phone is a contract phone so would it be easy to get the O2 ROM back if I ever needed a warranty repair?
SEARCH in development section O2 rom debrand .

Hi
I followed the guide and successfully changed the firmware to the stock Samsung one on the thread mentioned here. However when I did the factory reset and reboot (which wipes everything) I find my handset still thinks it operator is o2 rather than the other CSC code mentioned which should mean it can take the standard firmware ota updates... this was my sole reason for de-branding so i can take advantage of OTA updates without waiting for them via o2.
Everything went as per the guide so I'm not sure why the change to a the XEU CSC operator didnt work. I've tried the factory reset/reboot twice and still shows the same.
Any advice on how to move this forward would be very much appreciated as although I'm now on stock f/w i can't update with KE7 or any of the other recent updates.
cheers
Bob.
Did you do *#272*imei# select csc and then do factory reset? This is what I had to do to get the change to be recognised.
Sent from my GT-I9100 using XDA App
When i enter this I get a screen which shows
Preconfig
Sales Code O2U
Green button (not hilighighted)
and two buttons at the bottom
Install / Cancel
Are you saying i should select this O2U and hit install and THEN factory reset?
-- update --
when i hit the radio button the above screen and hit Install it says 'must be THREE chars.'
So not really sure what to do from here...

BTW CSC currently shows as unknown (from doing *#1234#)
thanks
Hmmm strange. Follow step8 here http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1064894
If that doesnt work I would put the O2 FW back on and try again

Kies does not update stock rom in general though some report it has . Never happened to me from SGS1 to SGS 2 on many tries .
KE7 not yet on Kies for many .
Most of us debrand to remove branding and use Odin to flash stock firmware on release . Odin = KE7 now no wait .
Rebranding phone with original for warranty purpose only if needed .

do a factory reset using setting privacy, my CSC didnt change using the factory reset in recovery menu, only changed when I did the reset in settings menu.
thanks for the replies all. Tried the factory reset from the settings menu but preconfig still shows 02u and *#1234# still shows CSC unknown...
guess I'll have to try reflashing via ODIN again... should i use a different firmware..
i installed
I9100XWKDD_I9100XXKDH_I9100XEUKD1_HOME.TAR
(taken from thread http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1064894)
Should i try a different version or put the stock one back...from the same thread..
I9100XWKDD_I9100XXKDH_I9100O2UKD1_HOME.TAR
...
I guess whatever i flash I'll do the reset from the boot menu and also the factory reset as recommended..
any further feedback appreciated... guess its not likely i'll brick my phone but would like to be able to take advantage of the new features in the later f/wares.
thanks all.
I am new to the Android world and i thought it may be helpfull to some people to know how to make their notes be recognized by kies and also to be able to use warranty!!!!
Every time i connect my phone to the kies i can see that the message :''your Device doesn't support upgrading via kies'' .
So i thought i have to find a solution for this message to fix it.Then i realized that i was on a custom rom and that's why i get this message.I decide to flash my Stock rom bu i couldn't find it anywhere. Then i find the guide of the HumanoidTalking and i start the fixing thing.
If you want to fix it then:
you will need to follow this guide to find and install your stock rom : http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1386356
After you have to find your IMEI and write it down .then type *#272*imei#* also on your dialer and you will see the CSC coed that you are using .Mine was KOR and i changed to CYO because i am from Cyprus. Then when i plug in my phone and open Kies the message said: ''Latest update''
Note!!!:First find your country CSC and change it but when you will change it then automatically will be ''wipe all action'' so be careful!!!!
So i knew that now i could use the kies at updating my phone .
I want to thank the members of Xda :HumanoidTalking for the useful guide and also the Dr.kretan for solving some question i had
Nice quide mate...
Is usefull for some people with kiss problems.
I thought it will be useful because i know in our android world many users wanted what i was interest in...
I was not even able to let my device be recognized by Keis, what I did was in a different way, after that I was even able to get my phone updated:
Press Volume Up,Power and Home buttons all three together and wait until you see the green and Yellow texts,I think its the Bootloader, after that simoly press the Home button to restart your device.
after that my Note has no problem in connecting or beeing updated from the keis.
if you get in bootloader and make restart its the same a to shutdown your phone and the power it on....i don't know if this solve this kind of problem but this guide is refer to the users that are rooted and on use of any kind of custom rom
is it possible to change my csc to a german G note? even tho mine has a brazilian csc ?
type *#272*imei#* and check if there is the German code in there ...if there is a German code then its means you can
tried to let somebody open line my phone which my friend said was an expert but now all imei and serials cannot be seen and said it wasnt there from the begining..
then triend to restore my back up from cwm which is a complete succes but when i unlock my phone and open at menu screen everything is saying app not available.. something like errorss..
then tried to factory reset using cwm then it wont go on at start up it justs loads..
then tried to flash a firmware which i donwloaded from sam mobile but it wont flash in my phone tried odin 3.07 but it always fails then i tried3 v.185
but it says setting up connection but its been laready like 30 mins
hopefully someone with more experience will come in here to comment on this but from my history, i have accidently wiped out areas of my phone that would normally never get touched such as where the IMEI number is stored etc. when that happened the phone would never get service again as the network would not validate it. odining stock a 100 times never fixed it. in my case my imei number was coming up all 0's instead of what it used to say. i could have fixed it had i had backups, or wrote it down. i dont know if your problem is that serious or not, but what you said about your numbers being gone made me think of that.
the newest odin is 3.09 btw. and make sure your getting the exact firmware for your baseband/bootloader/model (or newer)
Hi guys!
So I have a S7E 935F unlocked.
I tried to root the device and did everything as written and shown in every tutorial but it failed to do so.
After flashing recovery TWRP and trying to flash SuperSU the device just got into a boot loop.
I was reading around and understood that this is a problem due to encryption of the FS.
So I downloaded my firmware from sammobile and flashed my device again, everything got back to normal.
Well, almost normal. The rom I have has the same build number, version, kernel, everything is the same as the original one only that I have things in the settings menu I never has, like I have "apps" twice, one for apps permissions etc and one for apps manager, I also have "T roaming" no idea what it is, never had it, I have "service provider KT twophone".
Also the settings app crash a lot, browser gets stuck a lot, can't change system language to English (app crash).
At the home screen I Samsung Pay which I never had and I have some sort of a news app integrated on my home screen and it's marked with two stripes.
I verified this is a global rom for my country, not by any mobile company as before, I really don't have a clue what to do.
Can someone please advise?
T roaming and KT twophone service are both from korean carriers, maybe you have a wrong CSC installed or your /efs/imei/mps_code.dat is messed up.
Try to download and install the latest firmware of your region using Samfirm and if it still doesn't solve the problem, open up /efs/imei/mps_code.dat and see if matches your region name.
OK so I D/L the firmware again and same thing...
I checked /efs folder and its empty, maybe the content is hidden? Anyways my device has its IMEI and I can use it to make calls... thoughts?

You need smart switch on your pc, enter your imei number in smart switch and it will download correct firmware according to your imei, then flash it. Good Luck

Hello, this smart switch method is obsolete. Use odin to re-flash your stock rom in case of any issues. Be sure to use correct and matching binary firmware.
