Gingerbread sprint update - Galaxy Tab General

I just bought a galaxy tab for my daughter. (sprint version) i try to update firmware and its says update failed. Can i download up the gingerbread update directly?

If it is active on the Sprint network then it should just download the update in the background and give a prompt after, asking if you want to install now. Make sure it is fully charged or it won't let you install right away.

Its not activated through sprint. We use it for wifi only

Im unable to flash roms right now. Can i download it direct?
Sent from my PG86100 using XDA App

You'll have to use a computer and Odin or Heimdall to flash it to any of the stock EF17 (Gingerbread) files listed in the link above. The only way you can download it directly to the Tab and Update would be the stock files, and those should pull down automatically when connected (if it's not already updated.) I can post the individual Sprint updates if you want to maintain 100% stock, but need to know what release you're on currently.

Ok ill check when i get home. It is rooted could that be why im not getting the ota? Also could i activate it through sprint for a day just to get the ota? Its for my daughter i dont care if lose root

Cannot run ota after unrevoked3.3

I ran unrevokrd3.3 on my rooted phone thinking I can accept the latest ota after. No luck. Still getting the !. What am I doing wrong. Please help.

You are rooted why would you even want the latest ota. Just flash a rooted version of the ota if you really want it. This would belong in the question and answer forum btw.
Why are people not doing more research before flashing things to their phone, rooting, and downloading stuff.

Need some help restoring device to stock for update.

I performed the webtop mod but did not root device, as the webtop mod was pretty simple and I have no use for root.
With the new announcment that an update is coming the 29th I would like to revert back to stock so I can obtain this update.
Problem is there are really no clear instructions on doing this.
I am somewhat technically advanced (I rooted and put a custom rom on a g1, but used step by step guides to do so).
I have found many different instructions on rooting and the instructions for returning webtop to stock are layed out for the more advanced users.
Can anyone dumb it down a little and help the novice users like me revert to stock so we can get the update.
Im sure there are a lot of people out there who are in the same boat as myself.
Thanks!

Did you guys find download and install RSD 5.0
Sent from my MB860 using XDA Premium App
Don't even know what that is.
Sent from my MB860 using XDA Premium App
Go to link I posted download sbf 1.2.6 then download rsd 5.0 if you've connected your phone to your computer and your computer has recgonized the phone then you don't need to worry about the drivers. Once you've installed rsd and downloaded 1.2.6 follow instructions they're super clear and step by step

Are you using a p. rom like gingerblur? If so you have to flash back to be able to access updates
Sent from my MB860 using Tapatalk
I think you'll get that when your phone is up do date. There is no update ready for release yet.
Edit: I powered down my phone and restarted and checked again. It gave me a different message. It stated that my phone was up to date.

plus that thread will also be closed as there is a sticky for firmware updates.
Haha, these duplicate post are ridiculous. People get too excited & don't check threads first.

Hey, I have something for you.
as mentiond in the other thread OTA fails on rooted devices Kies works fine though.
Had to reapply CF root after update. Now time to expolore new features and work out how to restore unified search. I don't use it, I just want to stick it to apple.
So is the update good or bad? Should I update?

Had the update, and predictably lost root so re-odinised with CF-root 6.4 and no luck, phone knows its modified but no rooted apps work, updated the supersu from the market but no apps call on it anymore, its like its nor there.
Any idea's

Flash CF-Root again. Took a second flash for the root script to kick in for me.

Samsung continuum update problems

So I recently got a Samsung continuum from a flea market, and I am using it without activating it through Verizon. It is currently running android 2.1. When I try and update it, it gets stuck on the loading screen. Does it need to have cell service to update? Can I manually update it by flashing a rom, ext? Thanks.
Sent from my Nexus 7 using xda app-developers app
Yes, it would need to be activated to get any Over The Air updates. There are some roms that you can flash, but won't guarantee that any of the links will work. Verizon never updated past Froyo, but there was a Gingerbread leak that worked well, I'm using it on my unactivated Continuum.

Man I really do miss this phone and everything new they put to it! Was a great experience. And lucky for you if you need any of the files I can upload them for you and what not. All still saved on my computer since I didn't bother erasing them. o: So if anything PM me or I'll just upload what you need to here.
