I unrooted the tab and returned it to stock by flashing the stock rom in cwm. I then replaced cwm with the stock recovery. Now when I try to update 3.1 to touchewize kies says the model can't be upgraded. The in tablet update option says it is updated.
How do I fix this?

Here is a picture.
Really could use some help,
Thanks
I've heard of this happening to a few people.
Don't quote me on this because I'm not sure, but I THINK what happened is that there is a version of KF3 (the stock, shipping firmware on the retail 7510 WIFI) going around that was either a pre-release version, or toyed with in some way so that it does not appear as an officially-released Samsung firmware.
In other words, there's no update path from this ROM using the OTA method or KIES....OTA will fail and KIES will say it's an unsupported firmware.
Your answer would be to try finding another version of KF3 somewhere, clearing all caches and flashing that, and seeing if that would help.

I totally forgot about this until now, but I have a Nandroid backup of the stock firmware right after a Factory Data Reset. So it's clean and I KNOW it's the right one since it came from my unaltered device before I rooted.
Only problem is, I have NO idea how to turn a Nandroid backup into a fully-functional CWM flashable zip or as an ODIN file. If someone can give me some directions on how to do, I'd be able to upload it somewhere for you.
This would be great....I need to get this thing completely stock...
I appreciate the help
Your other option if you want the latest official release, which includes Touchwhiz, is to flash back clockwork, flash the the TW ROM, and then flash the stock recovery back.
Teamovercome created an ODIN version to flash stock KME without root and has the stock recovery.
Check out this page: http://p7510.teamovercome.net/?page_id=20 and look for ROM | 001002-P7510_KME_Restock.zip and download.
They have instructions on how to flash it with ODIN here http://p7510.teamovercome.net/?page_id=18 Scroll down until you see installation for restock.

It's the last update for the US wifi only P7510. You will be able to update to future releases when they release.

Hey People,
i previously rooted my phone on stock firmware along with changing the kernel. I have no restored and removed root back to stock but i get this message when doing a OTA update as i need the latest update to enable 4G on my phone. It says Your device has been modified. Software updates are not available. How do i go about fixing this? I have done some research and used the triangle app to reset the flash counter which now says Official rather then Custom In download mode? If i flash the firmware does it automatically Re flash my Kernel or is that separate? I have looked for the stock i9505 kernel i Just cant seem to find it.
Will appreciate the help
Thanks

flash stock firmware, stock kernel included
It's normal that it says that. Just install Xposed framework, then Wanam Xposed, there is an option to fake the system status as official and thus you'll be able to update firmware OTA.

Thank you for your answer, but unfortunately I can't use Kies since I use Linux and there is no Kies for Linux. May be another solution like adb?

Thank you!
I wiped the data, without success, then I flashed everything again with Heindall 1.4.0, then wiped everything again. Now I have official status and should receive OTA updates.
Edit: but after rooting the official status is lost. Now I think this may be normal.
Newbie here. I rooted the S4 a couple of months ago. Now that 4.3 is out, can experts post some step-by-step guide on how to upgrade it on rooted devices? Thanks.
Are you sure you want to update? Why not just flash a 4.3.1 rom to your device instead and stock to AMDL firmware.
However if it hasn't manually updated to MF3 you can go into your settings and search for updates, or it should automatically update on it's own. The only thing that would prevent it would be if you've flashed a non TW based ROM, changed the framework + kernel, or froze there processes needed to update. Just a stand alone root won't prevent it.

I am not on MF3. I tried to install the AT&T minor update before, but it failed twice. I did freeze some stock apps. If I unfreeze those apps, the automatic update should work then? That's very good to know. Thanks!

Just to be clear you never got/took the OTA update to mf3?
If you still have the mdl bootloader then you will be able to update to a new rom that is based off the new att firmware MJ6 soon. I would wait until a good rom is out to flash rather than getting any OTA update. Once you go to mf3 firmware you cannot go back to a previous firmware and you are limited on what can be flashed to your phone. If you take the new OTA (whenever att actually releases it) you will be stuck on that firmware and not able to go back to a previous firmware.
So like in my situation I have the mdb or mdl bootloader still, rooted, and I can flash any rom I want whether it is a mdl/mf3/ international firmware/ or when available the MJ6 firmware. All of this is harder/not able to do if you ever get OTA updates.

I never got the MF3 update. As I mentioned, I did try it twice, but the update failed, either because I froze some apps, or because I installed the CWM custom recovery. It's good to hear that it is actually a good thing. I noticed that the 4.3 firmware is out (the general forum), should I just install that one? How should I start? Thanks.

What until one of the devs creates a flashable zip that you can flash in cwm. It'll probably be only a couple of days now that the leak is out.
Hi,
I had my S4 (Rogers) on stock ROM with root. I want to put back the original ROM so I can upgrade to 4.3. I used Kies to put back original ROM but now when I try to upgrade I get a message saying my phone was modified and I cannot upgrade. How do I put the original ROM so I can upgrade my phone? Do I have to flash a ROM with Odin and if so where do I get the original ROM for my phone (Rogers).
Thanks.
Ignore this post. You have an i337m. That method will not work for you.

in general, to unroot your phone,
Open SuperSu, go to the Settings tab, scroll down until you will find Full unroot. Click it and proceed with the instructions.
Good luck, let me know if it worked for you

You have to make sure busybox gets uninstalled also. Sometimes it is left there and that trips the custom status.
Received an ota update on 11/30/13. Installed and can no longer enable wifi. There are a few threads with similar problems but, the fixes in them don't seem to be working for me. I tried to Odin back to a pre update version. Unfortunately Odin wouldn't work. However, was able to use Odin to install TWRP. I've been reading on xda for the past 4 days. I've tried several methods mentioned in some of the posts to revert. None seem to work. Would someone please help with some step by step instructions on how to get my phone back to stock. I want to remove TWRP and re-install the stock recovery and have the latest sprint s4 stock rom.
My phones device info is showing the following:
Software Version - L720VPUEMJA
Hardware version - L720.08
Model # - SPH-L720
Baseband Version L720VPUEMJA
Kernel Version - 3.4.0-1927016

How did you take the OTA. It looks like you flashed the MK2 ROM that's is in Dev section. Of you had taken the real OTA it would have updated your baseband (modem) as well.
I've heard you can use MJA tar while on MK2.

Not sure about the original poster but I updated from the Sprint notification I got. Maybe I should have flashed the update from the dev section. Should I try flashing the MJA firmware again?

I did the same. I initially installed the update manually via stock recovery and lost wifi. ODIN back to stock MJA fixed wifi, and then repeated the manual update. Wifi works fine now. I did not do any data wipes going back and forth, and have no adverse effects so far.
Currently, im rooted and running a custom rom and recovery on my ATT S4 with MDL. I'd like to return to stock rooted with the option to flash custom roms in the future. I know there have been a lot of changes recently with the various versions so I would also like to update to the safest and latest firmware possible(still be able to flash custom recovery and rom if I wanted to in the future).
So... What would be the best method to go about returning to an updated stock rooted state with the ability to flash roms and recoveries in the future?
I've been searching all morning but can't find much info on working with MDL. Can anyone point me in the direction or offer any assistance?
Any help would be much appreciated. Thanks in advance :good:
Go to sammobile.com for the mdl firmware. You'll download a zip, extract the .tar.md5 file from it and flash that in Odin. After you do that the phone will want to update to the newest firmware so look for the files to delete or flash a custom rom. It'll also wrote the device so backup first

Great. Thanks a bunch but I will no longer be rooted after flashing stock through ODIN correct? Should I use CASUAL from there to regain root and a custom recovery? Also, how would I update to a newer firmware after that? One that is "safe" or least problematic?

You will lose root. CASUAL will still work and you'll still be able to use twrp or cwm. For newer firmware you're going to want to flash a custom rom based 4.4.4. You don't want to update your firmware as you won't be able to use twrp or cwm any more
