I am looking for detailed intstructions on how to flash the amss adsp1 files to my dell streak 5.
Yes i am a total noob at this but i have been reading the forums for the past couple of months so i decided to try one of the gingerbread roms. i decided on the international rom by maxicet, wasn't sure if i could do it, but it turned out well, so far my phone has been running with this rom for the past 24 hrs.
MY only problem is i could not figure out how to flash the amss and dsp1 files, so i have the flashing leds, not a big deal but i would like to fix it. so i'd like to know:
after i download the amss andsp1 files do i unzip or leave it zip
how do i place it in the fastboot.exe and what do i do after that.
i have searched the forums but the jargon goes over my head i need something simple and basic.
thanks to anyone who can help or point me in the right direction

I dont have windows, and dont have any way of getting windows OS.
Could someone who knows please post the code to Heimdall flash CWM, or verify what I have is correct? I would really appreciate it.
Code:
heimdall flash --pit atlas_v2.2.pit --recovery recovery.bin --kernel zImage
Also, is there any other way to flash CWM besides with just windows? Seems kinda ridiculous that linux users dont have a way of doing this. I searched all over this forum and could not find a solid answer.
Any help would be much appreciated. Thanks.

You should broaden your search. This forum, while useful, is far from a complete resource.
There are a number of non-windows methods, bmlunlock and redbend being the easiest.

Sighhh... You can never just get a "Here ya go" on this forum can you...
Thanks but I've already looked at that.
No worries, problem already solved. Thanks anyways

This shouldnt be in Dev forum, should be in general.
Have you used the heimdall-frontend? This has made life easier for me. I would like to know if you flashed the CWM recovery file. did you put it into the recovery or kernel section? did it work for you?

It's ok bud I was just joking...everybody is so serious on here at times
Have you ever tried odin? If your willing to try then I can help you. Im not familiar enough with heimdall to give any good advice. Maybe somebody else can chime in on this one. Fyi Post a new thread in the Q&A section and you might get more responses. Trying to rid of all questions in the general section per rule in sticky above!
I use Heimdall to flash on my ubuntu machine, but i've always used the frontend.
Ver 1.3 wants you to have your .tar in a certain format, so to avoid the trouble i'm using ver 1.2 with the ver 1.1 frontend.
Install both.
Download the recovery file, and unzip it, for recovery it should be named recovery.bin
To run heimdall press Alt+F2 and type in heimdall-frontend - Click run.
Under Recovery press browse and locate the recovery.bin you unzipped earlier.
Put phone in download mode.
Press start.
After it completes flashing, you will then have your new recovery.
My original issue got resolved thanks to s15274n. This mans ROOT walkthrough is amazing!!!!!
NOW I have a problem getting my ROM to load.
Im trying to Install the Malice ROM. and nothing is going quite as smoothely as I think it should.
This is attempt 2, the first time I waited an hour to try and install this rom, straight from SD, and I think the furthest it got was "installing ROM"
nothing. pull the batery out (I assume thats a total noob move, and at beast ill-advisable.) rebooted, went about my day. well, im trying again, and now the furthest ive gotten is "Installing update" the status bar is never filling or scrolling though.
Whats the problem? (going on about 15 minutes with no change btw)
You must use Odin to either
-Flash back to stock so you can reinstall packages
or
-Flash a voodoo integrated kernel so you can flash roms w/ CWM/Voodoo Recovery
Download a voodoo kernel and flash it using odin.
ok, I have the kernal and I have ODIN. once again I have never used ODIN< I definately used a one click root.
does anybody have a link to a thread with *detailed*, hold my hand, walk me through it and pat me on the butt at the end Instructions on this? It's a learning process and damn if im not learning something by the time this is all said and done lol.
last time it sat still for me when it said installing update, it was a bad download. I redid my download of the rom and it went through fast and smoothly. Thats how i fixed my prob maybe it will fix it for u.
I really need some help i want to cry

do you have the .pit and .tar files? Also, are you turning your phone off? There is an awesome guide by s15274n called the noob guide. It goes over very specifically how to root, it also has a small tutorial on rooting using ODIN3. Search the q&a forum, i believe thats where the guide is.
Also just to clarify, im not saying ur a noob or inept, im just saying its a super awesome guide. My phones neen rooted for three days now, ive flashef a bunch of roms and i always flash nack to stock...REALLY helpful tutorial. Good Luck!
Can someone please help me find those files?? it will be GREATLY appreciated since my phone is pretty much useless now. and it has no service, nothing. its just stuck in recovery mode, so need to bring my phone back to I9020T STOCK, i had flashed it on a bad rom and this happened . please help!!!

Looks like the latest link to odin files on that 14 page thread has expired.
Hello. First of all: I've tried for 6 hours to figure this one out, this is my last resort, and I hope you can help me.
I've got a major problem. What happened is that I was gonna flash CM 10.1. I wiped cache and all that, flashed the CM.zip, and it failed half way. This resulted in me getting stuck where I am now.
I've found numerous guides, but the problem is, when I download the files, I dont get a .tar or md5.tar(?) file, I only get the folders, like system etc. Ive tried every link Ive found, and the same happens. No file capable of being selected in Odin.
Could any of you, please direct me to where I can download the files needed to flash via Odin? I'm really desperate and tired.

That Could be a problem with Your computer then.. When U start downloading the Firmware File what is the name that it shows while it is getting downloaded. It coudl be that there is some Software In your system that automatically extracts the file once downloaded
download a stock firmware from the development forum and try a different computer with odin
I figured out what was wrong. Winrar automatically extracted all directories. Unfortunatly, I flashed again, but rendered the device unbootable. I have no idea what happened. Will get a new one on my insurance.
Thanks for your help guys. Much appreciated.

I'll be honest I have actually no idea what this does lol. What is its purpose???
You should be able to use it to extract the contents of firmware packages and pull the recovery.img directly from it.

This thing is impressive! Okay so I did it... but couldnt find the recovery
I'll check it out and reply back.
I had the same problem - I was on 1.16.xxxx
I followed these directions and I must tell you - it works perfectly:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/zenfone-2-laser/general/guide-how-to-flash-stock-rom-via-twrp-t3409768
Although, since I was so far back, I needed to flash all the 1.17.xx versions first, but it worked just fine.
Since none of these OTA roms included the recovery images (that I could find - they must somehow hide it from us) - there were no other way I could find to get the original factory recovery back, but it works great.
Now I need to find a way to re-root and re-TWRP - still working on that.
Good luck!
