HI all, the problem is i can't play/hear mkv files, i tried to use: Vplayer and video was stuck, then i tried to use: mvideo player and then i coudn't hear anything, i geuss im looking for hd-audio-codec for my xoom or some player who can play mkv+sound+subtitle,
im using motorola xomm 3g, 3.1
thanks, Aviad
Try Dice player. It plays high bit rate .mkv files. I also noticed quality improvements after overclocking my device but that will not be necessary for Dice Player to work.
Add to the list rockplayer and moboplayer, both of which do a nice job for me.

Mobo player is great on xoom.
Been using MXVideo player lately and I'm starting to like it a lot better.
Either one works great

Use dice player...
Dice player played my videos better than most other players.
I never got high bit rate .mkv files to play on any other player. Mobo played lower bit rate .mkv files but sometimes I'm watching 720p files on my home computer and want to continue watching on my commute so I just transfer without converting and Dice plays it.
Thanks guys, ill try dice player and let u know if it works
hey,
Mx player works great for me. I love it.

In the market you will see that there is a Dice Player plug in for Tegra 2 devices. Install that as well. They should be on the same page.
Here it is:

I ran into issues like this with some HIGH PROFILE MKV files while running dice player.
MX Player plays those files for me with ease.

I read everywhere that people are using rockplayer to play various video formats such as xvid & divx.
I also thought I would need the rockplayer to play my videos...
While I did try rock player, most of my videos were lagg/choppy and most videos were well out of sync, many files didn't even play and this resulted in a crash/freeze...
Not long ago, I was browsing through my media and saw my videos as well as the preview!
I tried them all with the default player on the dell streak and it played ALL videos smoothly, clear & in sync...
If the default player plays almost everything, why are people moaning about software needed to play video's?
The default player does not play AVI FILES that' why we need Rock player

Ahh, I see, so the default player plays most formats but does not play .avi?
That's fine as most of my videos are xvid...
Also, why does every single video I have lag and the audio is out of sync with rockplayer or even yxflash player?
That's why I use the built in player for the time being until Android 2.2 is out as it should fix & improve the functionality of the phone as well as make it even faster/smoother and if were lucky, improve battery life!

avi is a container which can be used for the xvid/divx codecs amongst others.
Which is the best music player and best video player for Milestone 2 (considering hardware n stuff especially when it comes to video)??
It would be nicer if the video player can support formats like avi, divx , flv etc.
I bought PowerAMP as music player but haven't really played around with it. Though I think it's a decent music program. Others swear on winamp. I never had this program on my computer, since I looked for something else. On the marketplace PowerAMP had really good rankings!
For videos VPlayer is the way to go. There is this 30 days trial shareware. Try it out, it eats everything you throw at. Avi, of course, divx, I think xvid, not sure about flv. Try it out and buy it if you like it!

Thanks for the reply mate..
I myself have found WinAmp pretty good..
As far as VPlayer goes, I did try the trial version. But I had sync issues with a 720p .flv . After trying it this question actually came up..
There also is this VLC Player coming for android. I heard rumors. Are you following smartphone news?
Here you can see the progress: http://git.videolan.org/?p=vlc/vlc-android.git;a=summary
I do read around. But did not stumble upon that.
Seems like good news. May be we'll see VLC on android soon and hopefully it will live up to its desktop counterpart.
And I must add Cinema (by Greg Millam) is a nice video player for Android. Though it only plays whatever your stock player plays (as it uses hardware decoder). Still it is good.
Okay, Im going to give it a try. Thank-you!

I used to use PowerAMP.now I get soundbest player in my phone.I think PowerAMP is the best, but I donnt like its dazzling setting and its UI.
I recommend MX player and Dice player.
For music I use UberMusic... it's beautiful and very functional. Worth every cent.
For video I use MoboPlayer.
Give a try to the awesome ³ (Cubed Player) from Filipe Abrantes, if your music has correct tags.
MX player for local videos, vevo and vimeo for their online great stuff.
musicXmatch for music and MX Player for videos

Hi,
I also use power amp and mx player. And for both apps you can choose the folders to scan to avoid having your ringtones or other sounds played by the player... as for me, power amp starts playing music when I plug a jack. I am using cm10 from Tezet.

I have. Plays AVI very well.
Try Mplayer. If it will be as good as the pc one it will rock. SO far it's a bit rough but will work where others fail.
Watch out what settings you tick, not all processing methods are supported by tegra.
I used MoboPlayer and when plays DivX video, the movie plays but the screen getting so dark. I almost couldn't see the movie.
MP4s or MPGs plays normally.
Any help?
Try RockPlayer, seems the best so far.
You don't answer his question.... he asked for a player that plays vob files in a folder. Not the best media player.
moboplayer dark screen

I have the same problem. mobo goes dark whenever I start a video..however the trick is the control screen for moboplayer that displays once after you install it and the correct codec.
Brightness control is done by using your finger to slide up/down on the left side of the screen ( landscape mode ).
volume is on the screen right side ( up /down) and forward back in the video is at the top ( left right)
After I reinstalled it and actually read what the control screen says instead of just clicking on pass I find it to be satisfactory to just bring the brightness back up.
I have only had my A500 for 2 days so I'm new. Hope this helps.

Neither did you, so stop being useless.
PS. I did mention mPlayer a few posts back, if that doesn't do it...
I favor Buzz however I haven't tried much else...
I'm new to android. Is it impossible to install movie codecs on android tablets so that we can play all movie formats.Like .ts .mkv etc.
I hope you don't torture yourself with updates on your pc when there's VLC and SMplayer.
No, one size should fit all, look for mplayer or rockplayer.
Thanks.I downloaded moboplayer and it seems for me better than other players i tried.

is there a vdo player that was built from ground up specific for the tegra processor as opposed to a regular android smartphone player?
Hi everyone,
When I play 720p.BluRay.X264 mkv file on my Galaxy S2 there is no sound. I tried the integrated player, mVideoPlayer and MoboPlayer. The sound track on MoboPlayer is shown as 1:6CH, 48000Hz. Do I need any audio codec to play the video with sound or there is nothing I can do to whatch theese files on my new Galaxy S2? Thanks for your answers in advance.
there is a test done before for mkv files playback..
dice player plays it the best..

Thanks sumeshd,
Unfortunately it is a trial version and not free. Do you know free player that will play the audio?
Check if it has DTS audio, the S2 has some trouble playing DTS audio. You should probably convert the audio to AAC or get video files that don't use DTS.
Yep, its probably DTS audio, in which case Diceplayer is what you need. Its well worth the price I think.

Most likely the audio-stream is encoded with DTS, which isn´t supported by the Galaxy S II.
It can play AAC, MP3 or AC3.

You can´t install any media-codecs on Android, like you can do it in Windows.
Obviously mediaplayers can bring their own decoders, but this means decoding on the CPU, which is slow and eats much more battery-power.
So it is best to encode the audio-stream in one of the supported formats
Thanks everyone. I will purchase Dice Player, tested and the audio works great.

You mean video and audio is not synchronous?
That´s because, it plays video and audio separately. Basically the Player uses the media-framework to play the video without sound, so it can use the DSP.
Then it plays the sound separately, using a built in software-decoder.
This most likely also means reading the file twice, although some caching maybe prevents the need to actually read it twice from the permanent storage.
So it is a quite inefficient way to play the video. The player doesn´t know the internal timings of the media-framework, so it doesn´t really know when to play the audio. But most players should allow to set a custom audio-delay.
It is also possible that there simply isn´t enough CPU-power left to do the decoding in software.

could you post your movie file info? and what is the diceplayer's version?
There are some known problems to play HD MKVs.
1. 24bit Flac Audio is not supported
2. microsd card class ( transfer rate ) issue.
3. Wrong MKV time stamp issue.

i think that lag is not sync problem.
I was having quite a few problems playing HD mkv files, tried multiple players. The only player I found that played them well was BS player. Thought I would spread the word, I was rather annoyed that i was going to have to transcode a bunch of movies to play on this tablet but then i tried BS player and was incredibly surprised. Not sure if the pro version is worth the money, im hoping VLC will eventually be able to handle it.
EDIT: With software decoding MX player was able to play them as well. I tried DICE player as well and it also seems to work. For awhile I was having issues with those other 2 players but they seem to work fine now. It still depends a lot on other encoding settings but all these players seem to work fine with 720p mkv.
Vplayer is good also...
all these players can't play videos properly ......I would recommend u to convert video into mp4 or avi using formatfactory for PC .....once converted copy to ur tab and play using mx player or v player or stock ...........the resolution and bitrate adjustments make videos look lot smoother and plays without any hookups ......
HIT THANKS IF I HAVE HELPED
I have no problem with stock player and 720p mkv files as long as you don't use High Profile H.264 encoding. The file size will be a little bigger (than High Profile encodings) but that's about it.
