Market - HD2 Android Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting and Genera

Hello. Im trying to Buy apps from Market but it says "your device isn't compatible with this app" on every app. is there a way to buy apps for my hd2?

Go into your settings/about phone, and what is your model of phone listed as?
Maybe you'll have to edit your build.prop file and make your phone show up as a Bravo.
Mine is HTC HD2 in build.prop, and I've never gotten any message saying any apps weren't compatible with my device though, so I'm not really sure.I guess it's worth a shot though
Your build.prop is in your /system directory of your phone. You will need a file manager with root permission and a text editor (Root Explorer is both) to edit it. Look for the line that says ' ro.product.model=
and see what it shows .

So, is it possible to change the prop. to any phone ID? For example I found Nexus phone is compatible with all the apps on the Market compare to other phones. (I'm not surprised!)
Is it safe to do so? I have a HD2 with MIUI rom.
thanks

Yeah, you can do that, and it's safe. If it doesn't work, you can always change it back or change it to something else. You might want to go into settings/applications/manage applications, and clear your market app's data too.

It didn't work. I tried with other phone model name and google still see my phone as HD2.
Any ideas?
thanks

It may be your ROM you currently have that is causing some sort of the issue with Market... try updating Market first - if still the same change the ROM and go for another one... I got Typhoon CM7 - works just fine...

a quick little trick to get some nice apps that samsung only gives to i9000

heres a way to get a couple nice apps for free that samsung thinks the i9000 guys should have but not us (asphalt 5, krazy kart racing), theres also an updated version of task manager, and a few others that i wasnt interested in. if your using your stock build.prop file and open the samsung apps, it will show an updated version of our camera app but i have not updated it yet but i will report back when i do. but to get all the nice apps, you have to temporarily replace your build.prop file with the one ive attatched. also download the samsungapps.apk ive included and put it onto your sd card and install it. download the build.zip ive attached and extract the build.prop file to your desktop.
so now with root explorer, go to /system and long press and copy your build.prop file and paste it to your internal sd to back it up. long press again and rename it to build.prop.bak or whatever you want.
now put the build.prop that you got from me and put it on your sd card. now go back into root explorer, long press on the build.prop that you just put on the sd and copy it. now you want to paste it in /system and click yes to overwrite the one you have. reboot your phone. under settings- about phone there should be some of the version info changed and all that(thats all this does). now if you open the samsung app store that you installed you will see a few apps available for free. install what you want, then just delete your modded build.prop on your sd card(or save it to your pc or whatever in case they add some more stuff so you can do this again) rename your original build.prop.bak to what it is supposed to be(build.prop) and do the same-copy this file, paste it in /system to overwrite the modded one, reboot, and now your back to how you were just with some nice free games or whatever else you downloaded. everytime you switch between these files for downloading things from the samsung app store, go into applications, find the samsungappstore.apk and delete the data and cache so it will reset to your current version.
this is a long post but it takes less than 5 min.lol
you could also do this with adb but if you dont know how to use adb do it this way.
This is cool, I didn't really know what the build.prop file did, little things like this help me put the pieces together. I also notices that swype won't work with your build.prop file. Maybe why it won't work in ported i-9000 and vibrant roms that I've tried.
Also the proper version of asphalt is great. Hardware acceleration makes a difference. The lighting effects are much beyer than the version in the market.

really? i dont know how that file would affect anything like that, but either way that build.prop file is just so you can get the apps. i didnt try anything with it, just replaced it with my original as soon as i was done doing what i wanted with it after i messed with it.
ya and its were like the red headed step child to samsung compared to the i9000, but thats to be expected.

I tried your way, and the Asphalt5 app downloaded and installed, but when run, all it does is play the intro video. Does that app actually work for you. The Krazy Kart Racing App worked for me, but Asphalt5 just won't do it.
I updated camera firmware all seems well still.

You have to go to settings/applications/Samsung apps and autorize new application notification in I9000. When you are notified that the application is ready for you to install, you will be able to click and install. Please note asphalt is a huge file and will eat up a lot of download time. It is strongly recommend you use wi fi for asphalt and not packet notification.
What version is the task manager that is included in this? My phone has version 1.11
Also, any difference in the camera update?

The system was authorized for notification, the app did fully download through WiFi (all 70 MB of it), it did ask me to install, and I installed it successfully without incident (which is what my post already implied). It is shows up in the application list, but when I start it, there is a dialog box that pops up in the background and closes before I can read what it says. After this, all that starts is the intro video, which actually plays through the phone's movie player application. The game itself never launches. Have you actually spoofed your Captivate to be an i9000, downloaded Asphalt 5 through SamsungApps, and then run it successfully. If you have a market bought full version of the game, that doesn't count. I am thinking that this game has some additional security measures that prevent it from being launched.

yup, thats why i said in my original post just to use this for getting the apps, then switch back to your original. with the original, the samsung app store app will not let you download any of the good stuff. so just use this to get what samsung gives the i9000 users for free, and then switch back to your original.
lol does anyone have an origianl build.prop, i thought i backed it up and its gone.

i have beta9, installed this while on beta 9 and its running fine. i think like what someone told the other poster you have to go into the settings on the samsung app and click download on wifi and then install it while your connected to wifi or something like that since its a pretty big file.
You do all this on the phome right? Not copy paste on the computer?

as far as getting rid of t-mobile stuff, you can remove any of it you dont like using ADB or a file browser with root access (I use root explorer but its a paid app)
all the system apps are located under system/app
you can just delete what you dont like
or you can flash a new rom, most have alot of it removed already.
(exept for the stock roms and the leaked stock roms of course.)
I've just tried to unistall the applications through system/app but still I can see them in my appplication list, there are a lot of applications in my mobile that I've never used or even dont know how it works!!
can you explain that to me more,
Thanx

**You must be rooted for most of these methods to work** (I'm not sure about ADB, I've never tryed it unrooted)
These are apps that you cant delete using normal methods or the file manager that comes with the vibrant.
you'll need either ADB (Android Debug Bridge) or a file manager with root access.
ADB is definitly the more technical of the two options, but its also free.
the other option is much easier, you might try Android Mate, I've never used it but it is free on the market.
I personaly use root explorer but its not free.
You will have to be rooted for this method to work.
just open the file manager and browse to the system/app folder and delete what you need to. (in root explorer make sure you have enables read/write access on the top right corner)
the last option is also a bit technical but not too bad.
download a terminal emulator from the market.
open terminal emulator
type:
su
mount -o rw,remount /system
rm -r /system/app/[appname].apk
you must know the apk name for that method.
and remove both the .apk file and the .odex file (if there is one)
(Or find someone that does know it)
heres a list of some that can be removed without breaking anything written by s15274n (you can view his guide here:
AccountAndSync.apk/odex -> The app in the drawer, not the settings.
AddToHome.apk/odex
AudioPostcard.apk/odex
Avatar.apk/odex -> The app that launches Avatar in the video player.
BuddiesNow.apk/odex
Dlna.apk/odex [Allshare]
FlashPlugin.apk/odex
GoGo.apk/odex
Infoalarm.apk/odex [Daily Briefing]
KindleStub.apk/odex
Layer-samsung.apk/odex
MediaHub.apk/odex
Memo.apk/odex
Mini Diary.apk/odex
MobiTV.apk/odex
MyAccountStub_4-5-10.apk/odex
Myfiles.apk/odex
Sims3_Samsung_Embed_Launcher.apk/odex
slackerradio.apk/odex
Swype-Tips.apk/odex
Telenav.apk/odex
thinkdroid.apk/odex [ThinkFree Office]
vvm-signed.apk/odex -> T-Mobile Visual Voicemail [can be re-downloaded from the market. for some reason that version is the preferred one.]
VoiceRecorder.apk/odex
VoceDialer.apk/odex
Writeandgo.apk/odex
TouchwizWidgets:
Day.apk/odex
DualClock.apk/odex
SamsungWidget_Calenderclock.apk/odex
SamsungWidget_Feedandupdate.apk/odex
SamsungWidget_stockclock.apk/odex
SamsungWidget_Weatherclock.apk/odex
I noticed in the title that you would like Froyo?
if so you could just flash a froyo rom and they usualy have most of the t-mobile stuff removed already.
you might try this one AXURA
thats developed by an active member of xda which is nice.
Or this one: Macnut R13
that one is built from i9000 source.
theres a few others as well you can find them in the vibrant android development section
as I stated before read this (written by s15274n )
if your not rooted yet and need help getting there, its a great guide that has pretty much anything you could want to know getting started with this phone.
Thanx!
Thank you very much for the help, you gave me good options to think about..
I have a good question: Is there a way that I can use instead of installing a ROM, to "format" my mobile and install a total new version of Android, maybe something like the new Nexus S Gingerbread and benefit from the Google pure experience instead of waiting for Samsung to develop the Froyo for my mobile?
Again, Thanx a million!
Saif,

Market problem with Roto JME v3

Dear all.
First off Roto's JME v3 is great. I give it a 9/10. The one missing point is because of the following problem I immediately faced after flashing from my German stock firmware (I don't have this verison # here atm, but can get it later, if needed).
Android Market:
Problem 1:
NHL Gamecenter app not found in Android Market. The app was available to me on the stock firmware but now I can't find it in the market. Not current under paid apps NOR under app search. It simply is not there. It is on my Desire Z and also can be found of my friend's Galaxy S.
Solution:
??
Problem 2:
Not able to download NitroDesk's TouchDown License Key. Program is found but not the key. Was found on my stock fw and also on my Desire Z.
Solution:
Got a license number from NitroDesk. Still unable to find the program in market tho!
I would really appreciate any help as the NHL Gamecenter is THE app I used to use on my gal tab!
Leaked firmware versions aren't know by the android market. To fix this you need to edit the build.prop file. There are several apps who can do that for you.
I myself use Eris Market Fix. Be aware though that the roto packages contains a buggy busybox. If you use that with Eris Market Fix your tab won't start up.
First update your busybox with the BusyBox app on the market place (17.1 is the most stable version) than run Eris Market Fix, reboot your Tab and you're done. All apps will be visible again.
Eris fix is also not showing in market..
Sorry if this is trivial but have you set your csc to XEU. Default is KOR and *could* lead to something like that.
*#272*<IMEI># afair
This will wipe your internal sdcard so do a TB backup first.
I would try that first. No roto-jme has been seen to cause that before...
Cheers,
Hal.

Have you checked your CSC Code?
# cat /sytem/csc/sales_code.dat
Should be DBT for germany.
to change the sales code, you can simply remount the system filesystem read/write ,
echo "DBT" >/system/csc/sales_code.dat
and reboot.

Open /system/build.prop in Root Explorer's text editor on the Tab, change XXJME to XXJK5, or whatever your stock version was (XXJK5 should work fine though), in ro.build.fingerprint. This will allow you to see your missing and protected apps in the market.
You can also edit build.prop by pulling it to your computer with ADB, editing it and pushing it back, but Root Explorer is much faster and easier to work with.
Edit: this issue has nothing to do with the CSE or what it is set to.
Thanks

Does it mean that you can change CSC without doing *#272*IMEI# and a full wipe ? Is it working for samsung app as well ?
Interestingly I changed my code from JME to JJ4 which is the original firmware my GT came with, but still wouldn't find b0ricuaguerrero's game. Changed it to JK5 and it popped up.
The idea obviously works well though, cheers!

Anyone have a Froyo Archos with full Market Protected App access

After the market fix has been applied I see most apps (including some that I know are protected) but not all. From my experience on the DroidX, this is usually an issue with the build.prop not reporingt a valid ROM to google.
For example, I can search on my DX for "wii controller ime" and find the app. My Archos 101 does not. (I side loaded it.)
If someone has a build.prop for an Archos Gen 8, that will see that send it my way please.
Can you tell me what you've changed in the build.prop of your DX?

This sounds cool! Is there a way a non rooted device can get this? Perhaps by some installation.apk
Thanks
Definitly not possible without root. I don't know if it's even possible with temproot

Yeah, basically you need to fool the market into thinking you have a certified device. Not an easy task from what I understand. If you have a rooted Android phone you can download te app there, then use Titainium Backup to get the apk off the phone and side load it on you Archos. At least tha is what I do.

Hi chulri,
I follow your instruction above by modifying the fingerprint in /system/build.prop, then did the same market fix as instructed by the gappsinstall thread, reboot. I still can't find the gun bros app.
What else I have to do? (I had 2.1.4 rw root installed before doing this)
Now "My Apps" list is gone in the Google Market, can I get the list back?
Update: ok, it works now. I have to clear cache, clear data, force stop and then run the Market again. Now Gun Bros also shows up, and My Apps list also populate.
I still can't find Heywire app, anyone can see this app after this mod?
I have used archangel to root, then used marketenabler app from the market,
no other steps involved.
I seem to see all apps now (not 100% sure on that) but, definately see some protected apps that I couldnt see before and havent come across any on my HTC Desire that the Archos isnt seeing now.

Gun Bros is available on Archos Apps Lib anyway

Hi chulri,
Update: ok, it works now. I have to clear cache, clear data, force stop and then run the Market again. Now Gun Bros also shows up, and My Apps list also populate.

I just took the fingerprint from a galaxy tab:
- edited my build.prop using the root+rw package
- cleared the market cache and such
it's working
I can install apps like "Gun Bros" which I couldn't previously

Hi chulri,
Can you provide a Guide of modify it?
Because I put my build.prop into /system to replace it, then force stop the Market and clean cache, then Reboot
the fingerprint will restore by itself????
I have no idea where I goes wrong...><

[Solved]I think the Market Fix trick only work in old Market, it means you need to "Uninstall updates" after clean cache and force stop the Market.
Can someone please post up step by step how to edit the build.prop file ??
I've never done such a thing and I'm desperately trying to figure this out for a guide that I'm working on putting together..
I'm rooted (perma root) FWIW
Thanks a TON.
I use a file manager to copy the file to the sd and then connect to the computer via usb and edit with notepad++.. don't use windows notepad or wordpad as I've had problems with them. After the file is edited.. safely disconnect from the computer. Then I add .bak to the end of the original file and then copy the new edited file over to replace it.
I hope that helps. I believe there are also text editors in the market, but I like editing with a real keyboard.

Here: I"ve used the RootExplorer method detailed in this forum:
http://androidforums.com/droid-x-all-things-root/154976-2-2-market-issues-use-mod.html
Also to all: There are two states possible with the Market. Fixed if you the clear cache hack, unfixed if you do not do it or if you undo it...(to undo just do the clear Cache path but add clear data....no need to stop googleservicesframework and no need to reboot...just restart Market app and accept legal terms). The difference fixed state gives more apps but will hide some others from you: you get google maps, zeam, ADW, ...but you loose Google Earth, Flash Player 10, TVU, .... Jus to name a few. So the key thing is to know how to quicly switch from one state to the other. use the clear cache hack to get into fixed state and use my undo rootine (clear data) to revert the fix.
Once you add the fix to build prop you pretty much have now 4 possible states:
Please see my post below for my tests on the 4 different states and some conclusions
http://forum.archosfans.com/viewtopic.php?f=63&t=48312
Here's how to very easily undo the fix if you need to...
..Once you've done the Market fix you do not need to reinstall Market to go back to state before applying the fix. Once you do the Market fix you will gain access to few more apps but many apps requiring froyo will no longer show up anymore: that's the case of apps like TVU, Flash 10, .... (there must be many more). I suspect the market fix makes the device and generic device but not a froyo one.
To go back an forth between the fix and the original state all you need is to do this;
go to Settings --- Applications --Manage Applications ---Running -- Market ---Clear Cache ----Clear Data --Force Stop--Relaunch Market ---Accept Terms and Conditions ---
Voila. and you're back to the original State where you can find flash 10 & other froyo only apps.
If you do the the fix...you loose flash ..but gaine other apps...the fix skip the Clear Data steps ...and the Clear Data step will undo the fix. THe fix requires reboot..To undo it you do not need to reboot and do not need to stop googleframework.
I do this fix and after seach keyword "adnroid" i get about 143000 apps.
Is it ok?

Yes, that's fine...you good...fixed state, fixed buld.prop
but note you may still not see some apps with are available in unfixed state, fixed build.prop (like TVU, Google Earth, Adobe Connect, flash 10.01,..)
That's the con of fixed state...you gain some you loose some....

[Q] Buying apps from Android Marketplace

I've checked as well as I could in KF forum and haven't run across this problem. When I try to download select apps Google Play it tells me they aren't compaible with my device. One was Draw something and I could use an .apk I got from 4shared before they updated it so I know it works. Is there a known solution to this. I've read about changing a file in \system but as far as I can tell that dir doesn't exist. I would think KF would have to have that, I just can't get to it.
Also what exactly does the Replace Framework-res in the KFU do? Does in just replace everything if you screw it up?
I remember when I had my nook color I was able to change some txt file to make the nook appear as a another device allowing more access to apps I didn't have before. I believe Paul O'Briens rom currently does that. Not sure how its being down now but you might find something there.
Sent from my Amazon Kindle Fire using xda premium
Yeah I figured out the whole \system business and feel retarded from that. Ill try editing tomorrow and if that's too much ill just check out that mod. Thanks for the help.
