Hard brick or soft? - G1 General

I recently received a G1 from my friend. But I can only get it to the boot logo. It wont boot to either fastboot or recovery
Might there be someway to fix this other than jtag

It is bricked, unless either the "home" or "camera" buttons are broken..

Sounds like a brick...

I don't think it is hard bricked because you can get to the boot logo. The buttons could be bad?

1st, Try camera+power to see if you can get into HBOOT. If it lets you in, provide specs. If not we'll go to the next step.

nope still stuck at boot logo :/

Have i bricked my phone?

Hi. I were running a rooted stock rom with the newest radio and spl and ra recovery. I decided to try rom manager(i think thats what its called). I flashed the recovery, i believe it is called clockwork. When i rebooted my phone it just keeps rebooting at the htc logo. I cant enter recovery or anything. Is there a way out of this or can i just throw it in the dumpster?
Can you get into fastboot? Take the battery out and pop it back in. Then try powering on holding down back+power. You should get a screen with three Androids skateboarding. If you can get the port the information here. If you can and it just does the boot loop, do the battery again hitting the back button repeatedly, give that a few tries and see where it gets you.

Did they take it back under the warranty? Did you mod your phone?
Do you get the blue led & black screen when pressing trackball + power at boot?
I get blue led but no fastboot or recovery

So that means your device isn't fully bricked - your hardware seems to be working, and you should be able to restore the device using JTAG (search the forums). Though I managed to restore mine by resetting some stuff with draining battery and repeatedly trying again. I'd recommend you to try too.

I think I bricked my device any help to confirm this would be really nice

I don't know what I did when I was trying to install the orginal rom but, now my phone just shows the mytouch 4g picture, then it goes black and the same picture appears again, while the phone is vibrating. I am able to get into hboot but none of the options work. I upgraded the firmware with clockwork and unrooted the device. Is there a way to unbrick, or is the device just a brick?
Any help I would be thankful toward,
Luke
This may seem trivial, but it was not mentioned and therefore I am asking. Can you get into recovery?

No I can't get into recovery its locks up and stays on t mobile mytouch 4g screen. That is after i select recovery.
Good news is its not bricked. You're just hitting a snag on boot. Have you tried fastboot or hboot?
RIP Cotton Eye Jim
When I try the fast boot method it brings up bootloader i selct it and it takes me back to the main screen, at that point I try recovery again and the device show t-mobile mytouch 4g for a second then goes black and goes back to the screen and vibrates and repeats the same thing over and over.

You don't choose bootloader in fastboot. All commands need to be run from your machine.

It does not even show the device in adb. I have install the driver for hboot usb plug, but maybe I got the wrong driver. Do you have a link to download that so I can try to reinstall driver, or is the unit bricked? Or how do I fastboot with the unit not loading to android, but its on hboot screen with usb cable attached. Is there a way to do that?
Press and hold the back button while booting to get into fastboot mode. Then download the clockworkmod recovery img and flash it through fastboot. You can find more detailed instructions in the thread where you download clockworkmod. This will enable you to enter recovery and flash a new rom.
When I followed those steps, fastboot in red came up and it gave me choice of bootloader reboot reboot bootloader and powerdown, it does not load, I have tried the bootloader, it goes to the main screen.
Was being dumb needed to hit restart it boots, thank you I will be reading on clockworks. I a noob as you can tell.
I reinstalled clockworks but now I cant get the hboot up by holding the volume down and power key. Any suggestions?
Volume down+power does nothing?
RIP Cotton Eye Jim
Got it working just wasnt holding it long enough I need to be more patience lol
Lol, I had the same problem the mt4g when I first got it. Very different from the mt3g. For future reference, as long as you get fastboot to come up, or at least get adb to recognize the phone, its not bricked. I actually bricked a mt3g 1.2, and when they're dead they're DEAD. Nothing works except an led notification.

I'm glad you got help but this is the wrong section to be asking questions. Go to the Q&A next time.

Bricked?

After trying to flash a ROM (royalginger 2.1) my phone became stuck on the white splash screen. What do I do?
Assuming that you're rooted and all, it could just be a corrupted ROM download. Happened to me before. Maybe redownload (on PC) and reflash. That fixed it for me.
Go back into recovery (pull battery then volume down plus power button) then select recovery and flash another ROM as above said the download may be corrupt. Highly unlikely that its a brick...

You are not bricked, thats happened to me a few times, just do what bochocinco23 said and you'll be fine.
Your phone is so bricked can I have out for door stopper lol just joking, hope you have restored it.

Mytouch 4g Stuck in Bootloop

This is my friend's phone she told me to try and fix it for her. It's 100% stock 2.3.4. Stuck in a boot loop. I can get into hboot but if I press anything it just freezes like factory reset. I also tried flashing pd15img.zip and it starts but then gets stuck at flashing bootloader and doesn't go past that...any ideas? Is there an RUU I can use through fastboot like other HTC phones?
No RUU's. According to my understanding, if the device repeatedly freezes on updates and refuses to install them correctly, your device is toast. Anyone care to verify?

Confirming estallings15's answer above. The device is dead, most likely corrupted bootloader.
Experiment
If the phone is truly unsalvageable experiment with the ADB you might find something interesting.
Have the same problem on my gf's glacier. Powered it down, borrowed the sum card for a sec, replaced it and turned it back on. Got stuck at boot loop and the other problems in the 1st post. Can't we check if its corrupted with image crc?

[Q] Stuck in Motorola Logo

I have a problem with my Defy MB525, This morning I woke up and found the cell with the Android Logo with Exclamation, it was really hot so I turn off pulling the battery.
Then I tried to power ON but still stuck on Motorola's logo, in trying to enter the recovery (Pressing vol+ and Power but nothing, same pressing vol-).
the strangest of all is that my Defy don't display the white led, so it's not charging?
As far as I was to the symbol of android with red exclamation, I tried pressing the volume buttons but none served.
I was looking in other threads but nothing helps me, can you help me please? thanks. :crying:
If you can't enter recovery, you must flash a sbf. Check the many guides for instructions

Hi thekguy.
I'm about to buy a Defy that is stuck in the M logo.
The guy who is selling it doesn't give much information.
It says that's stuck on that logo and that the computer doesn't recognize it.
In your opinion, should i buy it?
Do i have a chance of bring it back yo life??
But I have a problem, RSD don't recognize my phone, so, maybe it's the battery, isn't?

If the port is confirmed to not be damaged, then you should be able to flash dfp231 and resurrect it, unless eMMC has failed, which should not be the case
RSD doesn't recognise the phone if: port is damaged, eMMC wiped, bad cable or computer

That's a green light for me.
The bid is ending in 7h, hope i can win it!
Thanks thekguy.
