[Q] nook color rooted application not found - Nook Color Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

nook color is rooted. was working fine. one day i was going to use it and i noticed some applications icons were not showing. also when i look in the drawer a number of them are not shown either. when i click on the application it says application not found. what is wrong?

Rooted how? Stock ROM? CM7? If stock it may have received the 1.3 OTA update from B&N.

mm i used manualnooter 4.5.18 so i would be running on 1.2(i think thats right), is cm7 a good one to use? i mainly just wanted it to be rooted to be more tablet like, didn't really need all the customization. i tried the miui one, but its not that good on the nook. not to my liking anyways.

CM7 is great, though if you didn't like miui at all you may not like CM7 either. Sounds like you like the stock interface. In that case, keep it stock. You may have to re-root if you were somehow updated. Go into settings and see what version is on it now.

The 1.3 update is rootable too right. I same steps as 1.2 with the new manual nooter

Droid 2 Update from 2.3.20 to 3.0.0

looks like 3.0.0 is out heres the link:
http://www.droid-life.com/2010/12/2...feed&utm_campaign=Feed:+DroidLife+(droid+life)
anyone try it out yet?
yea it works fine, root still works. Blur is still blur but its a little smoother and profiles is a good addition.
Quite possibly the ugliest launcher I've ever seen.
cool. yeah i must have heard that a million times. so if you do a back up are you able to just flash back to it? or do you have to sbf?
Safe bet would be SBFing. I don't see why restoring a previous backup would mess it up, but it might bootloop you.
It doesn't change the kernel does it? That would be the only way you would seriously **** something up by restoring a backup.
Don't think I would drop GummyJAR ROM for this "new blur".
It does install a new kernel. I made a backup in clockwork, flashed this and have gone back to my backup without issue.
It doesn't look like it changes the baseband, anyone who has installed this have you checked your bootloader version and kernel version? Anyone been able to SBF back after installing this?
Droidlife tested the 2.3.20 sbf and said it does work. Personally I'm gonna stick with custom roms on mine, I'm not having any issues and I can't stand any version of blur and its lag.

Write permissions - better method to root?
How does one go about getting root to set RW on the app dir? I have Root Explorer installed and running as SU...but I can't change to rename some of the stupid stock .apks.
FYI - I used Tears of a 1000 Unicorns to gain root.
Thanks!
Landlocked
PS: This ROM, as is, plays Xvid backups of your public domain video files!
the last two days have been "rom trial days" ..i loaded the new gummy, really liked it, then, after reading about the 3.0, i loaded & tried it. it really has a few nice things about it...but, decided this morning to go back to fission,,,,which i did, and "lost" the 3.0 upgrade..
but, knowing these guys, we'll soon have both gummy & fission w/the 3.0 update, so, Thank You Gentlemen for all your hard work...and, hey, do you remember the days when you used a phone to talk with? Wheeeeeeeeeeee

I'll continue waiting for Team Defuse to tear this one apart. I tried dealing with Blur again the other day, and I just can't stand it. It likes batteries.
I have been trying it out for the past few days and it seems alot better. Much smoother, I like the new swype design, has a built in task manager, profiles, a few other little things and the battery life is really good. I still run launcher pro over the stock blur but even that seems to run better.

Haha, i got a kick out of this. Yea those days seem so long ago I can barely recall them.
On another note it looks like the kernel might have been update as its a slightly different number than the one on my phone. Anyone know if anything has changed for better or worse with it?
I have a question.....is this gingerbread?
Thx!

No. Its the v3.0 of the motorola blur firmware (you are likely running v2.3.20 right now) and its basically a modified version of the Froyo 2.2 Android. In your phone info you will System version and Android version. This is a system update, not an android update.

I got it to work somehow. I'm guessing the various insignificant attempts and reboots solved something. I like the ROM a lot after getting rid of the usual bloatware.
Thanks for your help....Merry Christmas!
has anyone tried this and then gone back to a saved backup?

Stock or custom?

I am getting tired of waiting for the stock 3.1 rom now so I am starting to think about using one of the custom roms.
Have there been any performance and function comparisons between the stock rom and the custom roms?
Or do you have any good arguments either way?
The two most popular appear to be Virtuous Picasso and Virtuous Galaxy. I have been using the 1.08 version of the former for sometime and have had no issues. I thether, have gps, bluetooth, WiFi all w/out issue. If your rooted, get wild and flash them both; see which you Luke better.
I like virtuous galaxy for the the touchwiz, but there were too many broken things. Exchange didn't work, couldn't access files on my external sd card (although apps like google music seemed to be able to) and my usb keyboard didn't work. Virtuous galaxy seems to work without any issues.
I've tried them all so far, and they all have pro's and con's. They also all have bugs, which is only to be expected.
Currently, I'm running stock and, to be honest, kinda prefer it. Though I *have* rooted and added a few tweaks...

You started off saying virtuous galaxy had too many broken things, then went on to say virtuous galaxy seems to work without issues? Maybe it's too early and I'm reading it wrong in my barely awake state, but could you clarify please? Lol

I don't mean to speak for willy but I think what he was saying is that at first, Virtuous Galaxy was nice but had too many broken features but after the release this past weekend, most of the bugs are fixed.
I am using Primee which is the Asus Transformer ROM with some of the Acer items left intact. I have tried Virtuous Galaxy and UI is beautiful but I was getting a barely perceptible lag opening and closing the app drawer even after OC to 1500 and it was bugging me. I think the problem could have been one of the Samsung widgets.
I normally recommend loading a custom rom if you feel comfortable. I rooted my HTC Magic back in the early days of Android and have never looked back.

You should go for 3.1 stock (official acer update), works like butter and fixes problems that custom roms still have (like cell stanby) unless they are based on 3.1 stock (I'm still waiting )
Update to 3.1 stock Acer Official Update
No wipe needed or acer recovery/cwm, you don't lose your data, but it's highly recommended to backup and use recovery/cwm, through again not necesary.
Here is a change log (what's new/changed) to see if it's worth, if you do update please share with me in that thread what's new and changed so we can inform, share and encourage pleople to update to 3.1, plus if you do it now you get new OTA Acer_ A500_4.010.30_COM_GEN1 (I sound like a salesman ) who knows for how long they will keep the update

Thanks for all the advice. I think I'll wait a while longer for the stock now. It doesn't sound like the custom roms are the kind of miracle upgrades I got to my Hero and Desire phones yet.

Actually the update posted IS official, Acer one, right now those with that version are getting OTA .30 update, so as far as I know that's stock unless you mean out-of-the-box as stock.
i meant to say virtuous picasso seems to work without issues and tried to edit it after.

@Justray, you say : "Yes it works, I went from EMEA_GEN3 to COM_GEN1, everything works fine, updated from .22 to .30 from OTA."
How do you procede to go from EMEA_GEN3 to COM_GEN1?
My machine is COM_GEN1 so I'm happy. My sister who got hers in Denmark is EMEA_GEN3 and is still stuck with firmware 1.x (Android 3.0.1)... Is there a step-by-step instructions for going to COM_GEN1 for her machine?
I suspect I can then download the latest firmware manually from : code.google.com/p/acer-a500/downloads/list or use OTA like my machine?
Thanks,
Gilles.

I too went from EMEA_GEN3 to COM_GEN1. Here is the basic low-down as to how I went about it:
* Install Acer Recovery from Market and use it to install clockworkmod.
* Download the COM_GEN1 ROM from http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1176632 thread.
* Use Acer ROM Decrypter to decrypt the .zip file and extract the update.zip from there.
* Rename the update.zip to something like e.g. AcerROMcomgen1.zip and copy it on your SD card. It's important that it is on the SD, not internal storage.
* Turn off your tablet, then turn it on while keeping the volume button pressed down until you see white text appear on the tablet screen's top-left corner.
* Use clockwordmod to first make a full backup for just-in-case. I really mean it: do a full backup. You never know if you might need it later!
* Then format cache, format data/factory reset, then install zip from SD.
* Reboot.
As for navigating in clockwordmod: you use the volume button to go up or down in menus, and power button to select the menu item.

It's been a while. I need some advice.

Hello,
It's been a while since I have played around with rooting and tinkering with my Evo 4G.
Right now I have it rooted and a few apps like ROM Manager, SuperUser and such installed. I'm currently running 2.2.
I would like to get updated with the newest rooted stock OS. I need this phone to work and would also like to maintain stability and improve battery life.
I found the details at: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=790427 as how to 'After rooting, how do I install a ROM?'
Which ROM is recommended to keep as close to as stock while still giving me root capabilities and apps?
Is there a version I should avoid do to age / hardware of phone?
I was thinking of this one:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1319881
or from this list:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/wiki/index.php?title=HTC_Supersonic/ROMs#Stock_ROMs
#8, the OTA version.
Any suggestions or comments on either, others, my process?
Thanks.
Does it have to be a stock rom? If not, i suggest MikG or evolved recharged.
They're both pretty good roms

Here's a list of some ROMs you could try out. Look under Custom ROMs.
Just make sure you have a backup of your current ROM just in case.
thanks for the replys.
Just so i have this right..
I am going to choose OTA-#8 from http://forum.xda-developers.com/wiki/index.php?title=HTC_Supersonic/ROMs#Stock_ROMs
This looks like the newest stock rooted ROM, correct?
I have everything backed up and see the docs, but have one last quesiton:
How do I restore all my contacts, apps, configs, etc once I do this?
I rooted and did this when I got the phone and built on top of it, but from the description of the backups, it's backing up the entire config of the phone (like an image). I would imagine that I dont try to reinstall all my apps from that one, right?
Thanks.

According to that URL, OTA Update #11 is the newest OTA available. Before you switch back to stock though you should check out these ROMs by -TeamBlaze-.

Sky Go on Milestone 2

Hello forumites. I did have a thread on the dev forum regarding this but it got deleted (don't know why?) and had little - no - response. Here's hoping this thread bears more fruit... I mean, surely I'm not the only one trying to get this app running?
Bottom line in case you don't know is that you need to use this version of the app and use OTA Voodoo Rootkeeper to hide the root before using the app (Sky has blocked rooted phones from working).
Problem No. 2 seems to be that Sky checks for custom ROMs and kernels so it is very hit and miss as to which handsets will work. So far I have tested MIUI (unsuccessful), MS2Ginger 3.0 (successful but didn't like the ROM) and stock UK GB (via santi's Nandroid backup - unsuccessful). Some guy here has managed to get the app going on a stock ROM so I'm currently flashing the SBF via RSD Lite to see if I get any more joy.
Anyone else here had a go at getting Sky Go working? If so, which ROM are you rocking?
I can assure you it works on the stock rom with Voodoo, eventhough the ROM is pants while Skygo works I will keep it!
I have a Argent3.0stone... I will try
I have MIUI, i will try too..
Managed to get it running by flashing a UK GB SBF but the stock ROM is god-awful. Anyone tried running it under CM9? I know that ICS isn't officially supported but I have heard reports of it working.
Don't use the universal de-blur script because Sky Go doesn't work anymore, only news no sport, it thinks its rooted even with voodoo :-(

Netflicks Issue with JZ054K

I have been successfully using JZ054K as my fulltime OS on my original NC since soon after they went to "Nightlies".
However, now that I went to the newest Netflicks update (2.1.0?), all I now get is the opening red screen and a permantly spinning circle. My older version of Netflicks worked fine with the initial nightlies and somehow this newest version did an auto update which I had previously avoided.
Any help would certainly be appreciated with "thanks" in advance.

Netflix had a nasty habit of doing that. There are some Netflix threads where some users have hacked the old version so it will not update itself. Let me see if I can find it.

Just copy to the nook if you havent yet, and open the apk with your file manager. It will ask if you want to install it. Let it. If it runs into an error, go to settings and uninstall the one there first.

Thanks!!!
The black screen version of Netflicks is now installed and working!
I assume this app is locked to preclude updating?
Also have noticed you are using what I will finally be moving to in early February when I get my tax return. The 8.9 has always been my "trade paper" screen size sweet spot for reading and films. Thought that by waiting, there would be a good chance of the HD+ being fully rooted by then.
Until then, I will enjoy my JB rooted original NC that now can (once again) play the Netflicks app.
I very much appreciate the assist.

It's not really locked, but they made the version R999 so any new version thinks it is even newer. So should not upgrade itself.
And this Nook HD+ is super. I am using rooted stock now and I think CM10 on SD is just around the corner.
