Yes, i have Wifi. But everytime I try to add the account and login it says "cannot get a reliable data connection". I have the same **** on my phone, I cannot access the market from here in china. Only using mobile internet with VPN to europe.
But the thing is, the VPN works only on mobile internet. Which the Nook doesnt have.
How on earth do I add a Google account to my nook, using only Wifi.
I have tried setting up a hotspot with my laptop, which is connected to VPN. But my nook running MIUI doesnt find the connection (neither does my phone, which also runs MIUI).
I am at a loss here.
Any help or thoughts?
Strange ......
I am also in China and I have an Gmail accound on my HTC (android) Phone and on my Nook color and it works in 3G(Phone) and on Wifi without any Issues.
The only thing which is not working is to download Facebook, Twitter and Co apps from Market.

I have a sprint vogue flashed to metropcs with working internet and mms. I am running Nfsfans v14 rom. I installed android 1.5 bundle off of the google code page. I have 3 questions about android.
1.I have internet working with all the proxy settings and everything. Is there any way i can get mms working also?
2.Marketplace, Google Maps, Downloads form the browser, and Google Sync do not work. I get a connection error in marketplace, Google Maps does not load anything, Google Sync tells me to try again later, and the Browser downloads just say waiting for connection. is there any way to get all this working ??
3. is there any way to calibrate the screen? My 1,2,a,s keys are a little off
Thanks in advance
As far as your Google account not syncing - I think its a problem with any proxy based access.
I have cricket and its the same story. They use a proxy and either A) have a terrible reverse DNS issue - or B) They are blocking port 25.
This led to me not being able to have outlook connect directly with Gmail and download - id have to use the web version.
To my knowledge there is no work around for it - its an issue with the provider. Of course this is also assuming that the syncing Google does is using the same port it would for simple email.
Hi there,
I'm having a bit of a strange problem that I haven't found anywhere in the forum:
1)running froyo superram V 1.5.
2) 2.12.50 radio
3)energy rom dec 13 version
during install i cannot connect to my google account via 3g /hdspa / umts or whatever the data connection through my mobile phone provider is. wlan no problem.
after having done so and switching wireless lan off and only using my mobile phone data plan i can:
a) suft the web through the internet browser using mobile data connection (so i assume my apn settings are ok, [i'm with eplus, germany])
b)but i cannot ping the web in the settings dialog, nor can i use the marketplace or use any other internet using application
c) all of the above, i.e. marketplace work through wifi
what can i do? and why is this a selective issue????
any help and input is appreciated!
merry christmas from germany!!
data connection
I am having the same issue. Everything works fine except web related apps, unless i'm connected to wifi.
dear thomygunz72,
you may have misunderstood me and i don't want to get this question taken off the intendet track:
i can browse the web without wifi using my mobile data connection.
at the same time i'm on the web using mobile data, none of the other inet related apps work!
so I'm not one of the regular cases in which mobile data connection doesn't work at all, it however only works SELECTIVELY!
thats my problem.
hope anyone might be able to help!
Just wondering if you found a resolution to this issue, as i am having the same problem.
Internet app is ok, email and gmail apps are fine, however anything else just "fails to respond to server" when trying to use them, including the XDA app and facebook and twitter.
Any help to this would be greatly appreciated.
I don't see why you can access the internet but not via applications. That sounds a bit fishy to me, and I'd personally be tempted to try a different ROM and see if the problem persists.
First of all though, I would definitely check my APN settings to make sure they're correct. You should be able to find the info you need here...
http://www.unlocks.co.uk/gprs_settings.php
From the home page, bring up the menu and go to settings, wireless & networks, mobile networks, access point names. Check the selected values in there against the values on the site linked above.
browser works just fine but internet applications dont
I found a few posts about my problem, but no solution whatsoever. I got and HD2 using Nexus One ROM, the thing is I use the default browser with no problems but when I try to run facebook, twitter, downloading files or google talk there's an error message saying that there was an error and I should try later or there was a timeout. I checked my APN and everything is the way it is supposed to be. I figured so since I can browse perfectly. Is there an option where I can force applications to use the APN I set up? I hope you can help me on this matter.
I have recently purchased an LG Vortex that comes with the Android 2.2 operating system installed. I have looked into rooting my phone with z4root and have successfully temporarily rooted my phone. I would rather keep my phone unrooted, but if it is absolutely necessary I will root it permanently with z4root.
My question is this: How can I connect to my company wifi and use apps that require wifi?
I can successfully connect to my corporate wifi through the 802.1x EAP protocol. The problem comes when trying to access any of the apps that require internet (I am forcing Verizon's data plan not to be used--using wifi only due to 150MB limit on my data to save $$ per month). None of my apps seem to work--internet browser, Market, Gmail, Google Calendar, etc...
On my company pc I know that within internet explorer the box is checked that says "Use automatic configuration script" and gives an "Address" that is in the format of "..../proxy.pac" It looks like my work uses a proxy for things to connect to the internet. I have no such place to put this information in my LG Vortex. I downloaded an app that seemed promising called "Proxy Settings" which will allow me to enter in the following Hostname and Port. When I tried to enter the "..../proxy.pac" as the hostname it gave me an error stating "The hostname you typed is not valid."
Is there an app or something that will allow me to use my apps when connecting to my corporate wifi? Is it a proxy setting thing or a VPN thing? I am not sure. I am open to any and every idea so that I can use my phone's online features while connected to my company's wifi.
FYI - I have friends that have iPod touches and they are able to connect to the internet with some apps internet browsing and downloading apps, but they have a similar issue of not being able to use all of their apps as well. I believe they were able to put the "..../proxy.pac" address in their devices somewhere.
Thanks!
abarkena, check out Autoproxy on the market. You can add a new proxy, put in the address to the proxy.pac file, and it will connect to the correct proxy every time. It works for market, maps, gmail, the works.
That's also good if you're on a network where they keep changing the proxy (like the place I work).
I am staying in a hotel for a few days. The hotel has a wifi network that can be accessed with a userid and password through a page that opens with a browser. Entered that and can browse anywhere I want. Wifi icon in lower right corner of my Acer is at about 50% strength and blue. My Gmail app will not download email, however, and when I check My Apps in the market app it says there is a network error. Clearly, while I can access the web I can not access my Google account through the native android Google apps. I don't think it is authenticating my Google account. Any ideas or suggestions?

Although I don't know for sure as I have never tried, it might be something similar to some people who were able to tether to their cellphones with an app called "pdanet". Basically they were only able to use the browser. I'm not 100% on this as it is just a hunch, but it would seem that the browser and all other network services communicate in different ways. For example, the browser communicates in http which requires authentication (user name and password to browse) but since the market and possibly the gmail app do not communicate via HTTP (Gmail is likely IMAP) they cannot authenticate and therefore cannot communicate with your network. You can likely still use the market and gmail through your browser though.
Without knowing the specifics, maybe the hotel wifi only allows port 80, the default for web sites.
The network is weird at best. They had issues this morning that shut everything down. When it came back up the Gmail (but not Market) app worked but this evening neither works. I can access gmail through the browser. It is irritating but not a huge problem. Thanks for the input.

Hi, I like the title, the company's wifi bind, the appropriate version of the opera to the Internet can be accessed using a proxy. But, unable to establish a wifi connection with Google Play or widgwets. Could you share the solution if there is?
thanks...
Use proxydroid. https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=org.proxydroid&hl=en
doesn't work
Hi, this program doesn't work properly and i learned how to using ics with proxy but it doesn't work too. (in wifi menu, press wifi and manuel conf.) it's connecting AP but google play, ics default browser and WIDGETS don't runings. it doesn't ask me for proxy user name and password.
Do not nobody that can use this way?
A similar situation to try those behind the proxy, please?

Read my post. It works for me. This is how I do it at my work. Market and everything works.
