[HOW TO]For Europe users, better 3G+; use this firmware - Focus General

The rom I posted initially was an engineering rom, if you use the phone from a stock ROM it will work. The engineering ROM broke the audio to the handset, but speaker and ext head set were working ok. I need help to identify the registry value for the correct routing.
I was amazed how sloooooow my Focus was on Europe and I flashed ONLY the radio firmware from the European OMNIA7. It is better, much faster.
For those who are in Europe do this:
1. Download latest Omnia7 ROM from here
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=14893592&postcount=1
2. Run it. Unpacks some files in a folder.
NOOB ALERT ! IMPORTANT!
Delete FOLLOWING FILES:
signed_pda_Cetus_Europe.nb0, signed_eboot_Cetus_Europe.eb0 and signed_CSC_Cetus_Europe_I8700ORAJID.csc
3. Put your Focus on download mode( VOL UP+Camera+Power at the same time)
4. Start WP7 Downloader Ver 7.21 for All Device (Publish version).exe .
ONLY CHECK ''PHONE BOOT'' and "PHONE" NOT OTHER and only these boxes. Anyway, these boxes should be the only ones checked by default.
THERE SHOULD BE ONLY ONE FILE LISTED : signed_phone_Cetus_Europe.bin ON THE "phone" dialog and the rest<Eboot, PDA, CSC> empty!
5. Plug usb cable. The START ( on the program, not on WINDOWS) button should be avail now and a green connection at the Port dialog should appear.
6.Press start. The flashing takes 10 secs and it will give an OK at the end.
The phone should reboot and there you go, European radio for European connections.
I will try to adapt the whole csc also, I noticed something positive
Thanks to Sungod1 here are the steps he took to fix the broken audio- DON'T forget to press his THANKS button.

It's worked! Here is my steps:
1) flash Samsung-i917R-Focus-firmware-UXJL2-ROGERS-CANADA.exe (I'm sure UCJK2-ATT-USA not bad too)
2) update to Mango in Zune.
3) flash only radio software Signed_Cetus_Europe_KB2_Phone.bin from Samsung-Omnia-7-Firmware-XXKC1-MORE-PROVIDERS-NODO
After flashing omnia radio software speaker not work. To repair sound:
Dial ##634# Make Call
or Start Diagnosis program
Diagnosis mode type *#0002*28345#
Click READ, GET on all strings, audience.cfg turn OFF. Then
ENTER DEFAULTS of Samsung Focus audio:
No Headset Plugged in: Sound Tuning 1 1C 74 4 23 9D 95 12 System Gain Attenuation 7 130 0 Class Gain Attenuation 7 0 5 Device Gain 7 1200 -500 audience.cfg Off

(Only one digit differs: in string 1 1C 74 4 23 9D 9B 12) change to 95
START, Reboot

That's some nice find! Any notable differences?

3g+ sign is on and it seems faster, I am messing with the csc file, right now.
CSC and some provxml files are responsible for the HSPA protocols, if I could port them to the Rogers would be nice. All the branding is from the file and the provxml are inside the nb0 file. I'll get an Omnia7 from a friend to see what and what.
It is very frustrating since I have to reflash any time I do something wrong and it takes a lot of time.
I had huge succes with a frankenstein CSC, 3,5 MB/s but it broke the audio and marketplace.
I will continue to digg into it, OMNIA7 looks FW almost identical.

Done as per your instruction htc9420 and Internet connection does indeed work faster. However I've caught 2 spontaneous reboots since I've updated (15 minutes ago). Never had them before. I shall see how it goes and post again.

It is faster. However, flashing the new radio will affect some things:
1. Battery stats&logs. Right after the flashing your battery will show empty. This could be the culprit for the reboots. My recommendation would be to turn phone off and leave it to charge fully. Use it normal but drain it until it literally won't start again ( you'll notice that it shows1% battery left and after a restart it will show 5%). Charge it once again while off. YOU WILL GET AMAZING BATTERY LIFE.
2. Faster 3G/EDGE switching. Really faster no more signal drops.

Well reboots were happening pretty much every 5 minutes and once over 3 or so reboots I would get a message like "Your SD card is damaged or removed. Your phone will be hard reset". Can't really see a connection between updated radio and SD card but I never had such problem before flashing Omnia 7 radio. So I had to restore from the backup and phone is back to normal now.

What do you guys think? ready for using? this boots kept me worried. =)

...these boots are made for walking....
I installed it 3 days ago and haven't had any issues..but I installed it before going to NoDo and Mango. Updating the radio should be not break the nand-card system. All you are risking is another Mango install so 1 hr at the most .Connection speed is an issue for me so I reinstalled everything. It is not a huge improvement, it's more like reliability and the speed increases by 50 percent-still slow. I wonder if there's again a data leak on the phone....
On the other hand,I still have to see a WP7 device hitting 3 megs/sec and I've seen a lot of them.

Are you sure Mango update does not overwrite the radio module to default 2103.11.8.1?

My Focus/Settings/about :
OS 7.0.7720.68
Firmware : 2124.11.8.1
Hardware : 3.1.0.7
RADIO soft ver: 2424.11.2.2
Radio hw vers: 0.0.0.3
Bootloader :5.8.0.6
I'm running the Rogers ROM, I can flash any radio without issues AFTER reaching Mango.
Voice&data connection are optimized by the CSC + Radio firmware + OS bundled together. In theory, one can use the EU Omnia7 CSC file also, but I'm not sure yet if the 3G+ provxml files are bundled inside the zune updates.
One thing is for certain: the way Focus behaves in europe is at 25% of the PERFORMANCE under an US carrier. Data mode switching is way off with the american ROMs. It should be 3G CS headers then the PS negotiates multiple links (up to 16 up and 12*4 down) to 3G+. The switching doesn't take place. Instead of , let's say, 2 Mb/s I could only get 2192/48=45Kb/s which about the real speed I get at the most.I flashed CSC+Radio from the engineering rom, I was left without handset audio BUT I had 3-5 Mb/s speed under Mango.
I wonder how many Focus users are European and how many have issues with the data speed.
Maybe the EU users could try and download SpeedTester and post some results.

I can post some results for the Omnia7 radio:
VODAPHONE de SIM, data roaming
Vienna
ATT 0.72 Mbs
Omnia7 2.85 Mbps (I hit 8mbs where is 4G)
Bratislava
ATT 0.52 -0.64 Mbps
Omnia 3.2-2.8 Mbps
I am heading to Switzerlad so I'll post some results later on.

I've got a Focus in Egypt so I'm not sure if this will help or not, any idea anyone?

You can try it and find out by yourself. If you don't like it, you can switch back.
Steps:
- Backup your phone
- Follow instructions in 1st post
- If it doesn't work for you, reflash or revert from backup

Today I updated my Focus 1.3 to Omnia radio. But: main voice phone speaker has stopped working (only headphones and back loudspeaker). Verdict: I DON'T RECOMMEND to change radio to omnia 7 software if you need phone instead a Tablet . Fortunately, flashing my focus back to factory firmware got the speaker came to life.

Yes, it happens if you use the radio from the engineering ROM.
However, there's a fix if you use the diagnose>main menu>audio>rebuild all to make it work.
Also, the switch should be made by 7004 and NOT after updating. I caught the update pkg from MS and it seems that they update the radio to the latest Omnia7.
I had huge data issues with the stock Rogers/ATT radio that's why I switched to omnia7's radio.
For me, it's working like a charm now, I got better data and connectivity. I had some colleagues ( from US and working in Europe) that reported better connectivity, actually one of them is working right now on the CSC file to make a proper EURO rom.

I can't get the earpiece working on AT&T ROM with OMNIA radio. I tried 2424.10.11.1 and 2424.11.2.2 radio versions.

I have these specs now:
Firmware revision: 2124.11.8.1
Harware revision:3.1.0.7
Radio Software version: 2424.11.2.2
Radio hardware:0.0.0.3
Bootloader: 5.8.0.6
I am not forcing anyone to update the radio. It is merely a suggestion.
Also, the best results I had when I replaced the radio BEFORE updating.

I tried for radio:
Samsung-Omnia-7-Firmware-XXKC1-MORE-PROVIDERS-NODO
Samsung-Omnia-7-Firmware-XXJL3-RETAIL-UK
I8700+XEN+I8700XENJK1
Base firmware (Phone is AT&T):
Samsung-i917R-Focus-firmware-UXJL2-ROGERS-CANADA
Samsung-i917-Focus-firmware-UCJK2-ATT-USA
Spend huge time for use all combinations of this ROMs. In all cases: earpiece don't work, menu 55 no any results. What suggestions?

Hmmm, I used the radio from I8700FTMJJ6 and from a newer rom ( I think it was the one from june).
I am not with the PC where the I have the files stored but I will post the exact setup on Monday.
On a wild guess, I could only speculate that there must be different radio hardware inside the FOCUSes...I had personally flashed three devices without issues- even emailed Cotulla a to consider including the Omnia radio version on his ''future'' custom Rom.
The issue might occur from a audio routing registry setting OR from a muted volume inside radio -you can easily check with the volume boosting codes. If it was for an incompatibility issue it would not have functioned at all: network, audio and data- not to mention that the flashing software will not let you flash.
I will try to tinker with it and report back next week.

my xda is locked and a GID code is required - Help

I have upgraded my XDA with a rom from the kitchen and now the phone will not work it keeps asking me for a GID: code. the sim is not locked as it works fine in a differant phone and i have tryed a differant sim in the xda and still get the GID: code window. can anyone tell me what is this and how do i get past it.
rom ver: 3.17.03 eng
date 05/15/03
radio ver: 4.21.00
protoco ver: 32s54
Well ive read most of the other chains and there is lots about unlocking sim and using XDAunlock but they also say if you have the special edition rom you dont need XDAunlock as itis included which i have.
If i click the sim unlock it tells me the sims is unlocked but when i enable the phone i still get the GID code window.
Any help would be good as i am now without a phone.
This is weird: the ordinary SIMlock used is some phones is technically called SID-lock. As I understand, the GIDlock feature is used to lock to a specific SIM. Why your phone would suddenly have a GIDlock enabled after upgrading your PDA ROM is beyond me. Are you sure upgrading the ROM is only thing that's different? Is it a 900/1800 or a 900/1900 phone? What RSU version is in there? What ROM did you have before? What ROM did you base your new kitchen ROM on? Do you have a serial cable or cradle?
Questions, questions, questions...
Thanks for your reply.
i have only upgraded the rom. its a 900/1800
not sure of the RSU device info is
rom ver: 3.17.03 eng
date 05/15/03
radio ver: 4.21.00
protoco ver: 32s54
this is a v-old XDA and the rom was so old it could not upgrade via usb /cradle (sorry forgot what the rom was but reading another chain who had the issue of not being able upgrade via usb i had the same rom as him. so i saved the ce+boot from a work mates xda to sd card and upgraded it. all was ok i then downloaded the rom from the kitchen and upgraded it via the cradel (usb).
I still have the sd card and have tryed reloading the ce+boot but when i boot up i still get the gGID: code window. so reloaded the kitchen rom and thats where i am now.
the rom i used i got from http://cuba.calyx.nl/~jsummers/ROMkitchen/
3.17.03 ENG O2-Euro .
here is all the info on my XDA i hope this helps some one.

We roughly know where the GIDlock code is stored in the phone ROM. And if you have a serial cable, we probably (maybe) have the AT command to extract the data. However: since 4.20 they obfuscated the other (SIDlock) code, and they may also have obfuscated this one. So no promises: It's a bit of a project, and as long as you're the only one with this problem it's kind of a waste: I'd rather spend the time on stuff that is useful to all of us.
Let's first try this: maybe it helps to reset the phone... Could you try resetting it using the menu from the bootloader? To do this, soft-reset the phone while keeping the power button pressed, and then (after "WAIT" is gone) press the top-right (calendar) button, select the fourth option from the menu using the rocker switch and then press the center of the switch.
I still need to know if you have (access to) an XDA serial cable.
I have tryed the soft reset no joy
i done have access to a serial cable only the usb.
please try to help,,,,
i i do get hold o a serial what do i need to do?
I'd like you to hook up a serial cable, start a terminal program at 115.200 bps, put the device in bootloader mode as described above, and then enter "dualser<enter>" followed by "AT%UREG?3FE004,FFFFFFFF<enter>", and then cut and paste the result here...
Ive got hold of a serial cable and connected it up. booted xda and see HTC botlader for (wallaby) etc.etc on screen.
but when i type the dualser i do not 1. see what i typed & 2. there is no responce from the device.
hyperT is set to
com 1
BPS = 115200
data b = 8
parity = none
stop b = 1
flow c = (tryed none, hardware, xon/xoff.
i know the typerT works as i have commected to a modem and can see at when i type it. tryed typing ate1 when connected to the xda (as this turns on echo but still no joy.. dose the xda have a differant echo on command.??
i do not beleve i have a duf cable as when i boot up i can see info from the xda come on the screen.. any comments would be good. ill see if i can find a differant cable for now and retry.
Ok i havegone a got a cable from 02 and connected it up.
i still have the same situation. i can see the xda boot on hyperT but my key strokes have not affect..
what now....
ok that was a game and some but here is the results.

I would say your GIDlock is set to "00000000" (eight times zero). And your SIM pin is set to 0606 ?
(I'm glad it's all zeroes, because the obfuscation algorithm (I now know GIDlock also obfuscates) doesn't touch it that way, otherwise I would have to rip out the manipulator source.)
Try entering it normally first (i.e. through the box that asks for it). If that doesn't work, try entering "AT%LCKGID=0,00000000".
Hope this works...
Still have no clue why on earth your phone would have decided to turn it on...
Thanks Peter Poelman.
I have done that and now the window is gone. but my phone will not get a signal.
the At now looks like this.

I'd say the phone part in your device got very very confused at some point, possible not even connected with the new OS ROM. The dump already looks kind of funny, and I wouldn't be surprised if your phone has lost all of its configuration data, resulting in it being broken. You may (at your very own risk, I've never done this!!!), try the GSM Debug/Calibration mode from the bootloader. I've always been curious to see what it does, and in your case it may actually do some good.
Loading new ROMs will probably not help. You could try (again, at your own risk) doing an RSU upgrade before trying the calibration from the bootloader. But I'd say this device probably needs to go back in for repairs.
(And you might want to check, using the bootloader) that it's not inadvertently set to the wrong band or something)
Thanks..
we the reload of rom has started so ill wait for it to finish then ll try RSU upgrade (ill down load a new one from 02) thenif i still have no joy ill post the at string first so you can see if you see anything if not (what the hell) ill try GSM Debug/Calibration the xda is shagged so it cant break it..
as this is a second hand XDA do you know of anyone that can fix it in the UK.???
any ho ill let you what happens..
l chck the boo after the reload as this is 02 (uk) it should be 900/1800 right.
Just set the band manually via the bootloader (use calendar button in the bootloader).
You guys are great read the submerged post by my earlier on the result fixed mine also.

it think it must be the default.
just made a call

Actually, during doing RSU upgrade to a friend's XDA, since it didn't work from the first time, I selected this function from the bootloader. It kept the XDA veryyyy slow with a mark on the phone signal as if there is a continues call running. I couldn't stop it except by a hard reset, then applied TMO R6.24 and then it worked fine.
I 'm not sure it's just a coincedence or it was THE reason that made the new RSU works

RADIO

I'm running 3.37 whatever of the radio for this device (on Verizon) and I'd like this 3.42.50 radio. I actually have a 3.42.50 radio download but I'm told if I want to do this with the PC that the radio should be part of another cooked ROM so they flash during the same process. If this is true, which ROM out there includes this radio at this time?

Check that thread - has a link to 3 different radios and instructions
You can just flash the radio only, don't have to flash the whole rom.
If you DO flash the whole rom - you cannot let customizations run - it can mess up the phone.
OK...what if I don't have a 2GB microSD card? Can this be done with the flash program from the computer?
Yes, you can flash it from the computer.
Use this utility - unzip it into its own folder.
In this same folder - you need to put one of the radio files and rename it
Rename the radio file to:
ruu_signed.nbh
It has to be that name for the utility to see the update
You can flash via USB
No dice...
ERROR [328] : INVALID COMMAND
This Update Utility cannot be used for your PDA Phone. Please check your Update Utility.
I have the white XV6900 from Verizon and it has already been unlocked with the Coke Unlocker.
If it won't flash via the Rom update utility - your only hope is using SD card to flash.
Any 512MB, 1GB, or 2GB micro SD (it cannot be SDHC) will work
Just needs to be formatted FAT-32 and file called VOGUIMG.NBH
Can you borrow one from someone?
As long as the card is already fat-32 - don't have to format it.
Just need to put the VOGUIMG.NBH file in root of SD card.
Did you CID unlock the device? I am not sure if you can flash a radio without unlocking the CID first (please note that this is different from Cokeman's).
One other thing, there is a stock rom (I believe it is Bell's), which comes with 3.42.50. If you are unlocked, you could try to flash that rom (which will flash your radio as well), and then simply flash to whatever rom you want to have. That is how I did it as I couldn't flash via RUU or via SD.
You can find a link to that rom in my guide.
Edit: BTW, I am moving this thread to General as it is not dev related.
Thanks Thunder...that was my preference, just wasn't sure which ROM had that radio with it. Smallest microSD I have is 4GB and can't find anything smaller anywhere unless I try eBay which I'd hate to do for one task. I'll holler if I have any issues.
When you flash that Bell Rom - make SURE you do NOT let customizations run!
I have never had to flash that way to upgrade my radio, but from what I've heard,
it can mess with the phone settings and change carrier info if you are not on Bell.
Flash the ROM, let it reboot, and once it powers on, before it does anything, pull the battery.
Then go ahead, put it in boot-loader (tri-color) mode and flash the ROM that you want.

Never had that issue myself, but what Does_It_Matter says here makes perfect sense.
yeah....oopsie on my part and the customizations ran...oddly enough the phone is only half working. I did load another ROM but I'm left with the following features. I can make a call, send/receive text but cannot receive a call or access Internet on Verizon. Automated activation and manual do not seem to be working. Can I simply flash the Verizon ROM onto it to resolve the issue or is there a better approach?

Actually, not everything is lost. Just flash Verizon's rom, but before you do that, extract the contents of the exe and in the extracted folder you will see 2 nbh files. One will be about 100 MB (this is your rom), and the other will be roughly 12 MB (this is the radio). Delete the radio image and flash away. This way, you will ensure that you are not going to downgrade the radio again.
Good luck
OK...the good news is I was eventually to get the stock ROM back on there unfortunately had no choice but to downgrade the radio. Even though I extracted the exe and removed the related radio nbh file, the image would not install unless I ran it from the packaged exe from Verizon.
The bad part is the phone refuses to establish a data connection even after all of that. My fault for letting those Bell customizations run in the first place I suppose but I should have remembered that as I've done this before. I suppose there is some positive in the fact that I have the phone insured and they are sending me another (to bludgeon...lol).
I guess I'll eBay my way into a small microSD card for these radio upgrades. I plan on moving to Sprint and if I do so, can my XV6900 work on the Sprint network as well seeing it is also CDMA? I still have a chance to make this a nice phone for one of my kids when I tickle a new Windows 7 Phone.
Thanks for your help guys and I'm glad that at least someone else can read this and take the necessary precautions.

While technically the MP6900 and the XV6900 are almost identical (who am I kidding, they are the same damn phone!). Sprint doesn't like to activate Verizon's devices on their network and vice-versa. If you have it available (and don't need fast web on your device), try to switch to MetroPCS, which runs off the Sprint network anyways.

[Q] Newbie to install android

Hi experts,
I have a HTC HD2 (T-mobile).I am using it as unlocked with Wind Mobile, Canada.I like to use Android froyo but not sure which rom and version of froyo I should consider. After seeing so many forum I understand that not all roms are for the T-mobile HD2.Does any one has little time to suggest me?As it was an expensive cell phone for me, I want to use all of its features including camera flashing,wi-fi and ofcourse Skype over wifi,G-sensor too.please help me.
Before you can get the correct rom you need to know a few things about your HD2. I have just done this (with a lot of help of people both on and off this forum) so I will sread what knowledge I have.
1) Figure out which SPL you have (restart your phone whilst holding down the volumn down key).
2) Download the correct HSPL for your phone.. so if you have SPL 1.66 then download and install HSPL 2 (as it covers 1.66, .172 etc
3) Verify that your Radio is 2.08 or above. if it is not then upgrade it
4) download your choose Andriod rom -- I brought down Froyo 1.8 mattcleofroyo1.8
5) your SD card has to have at least 2 gig free
6) unpack your android rom and you will get an Android folder - copy that to the root of your SD Card.
To start Android
============
NOTE: the first time you do this it will takes ages so DON'T PANIC - it can take up to 15 minutes
1) make sure you have at least 50% battery power or are on main power for the first start
2) go into the android folder and run the program CLRCAD - it will see to do nothing but that is ok
3) Run the program HARET... this will load and boot Android.
That it.. it isn't as complicated as it sounds. The important bit is the prep work making sure you have the minimum Radio version etc.
Good luck

Sorry I can't answer your questions as I only finished doing this last night. Until I fully sync my contacts - I can't play with android.
I also will be downgrading my radio to 2_12 to improve stability. Obviously it will take a week or so before i can comment especially on battery.
The instructions I gave will give you android but Windows Mobile will still be your initial OS. So you will boot WM then start android.
Like you .. I won't make Android my default OS until I have tested everything you mentioned.
Hope this helps.

[Q] Have HD2 running windows, Want Android Help

Ok.....First I will admit I am new at all of this, second , I am a girl. Not that, that is a big deal but you get my drift. I have spent the last 24 hrs trying to find a good version of android 2.2 to install on my HTC HD2. I have tried quite a few versions, only one has installed that was the FroyoSense. However, none of my status lights worked, personal ringtones didn't work, picture preview didn't work. I create themes for the market and wanted to run android on this phone to help me out with my themes.....can anyone point me in the right direction? Thank you so much in advance.......that is if anyone is up as late as I am.... : )
Mickey
Hi Mickey,
The best builds I've used are NexusHD2 1.8 (if you want completely stock Android) and MDJ Froyo HD 4.6 (if you like the HTC Sense look). You will need to flash your HD2 using ActiveSync with a new '.50' radio. They can be found here (2.15.50.14 is the one I'm using). Without the new radio you'll be unable to boot.
I'm currently running MDJ Froyo HD 4.6 and it's quick and stable with pretty good battery life. I experience trouble with 'robot voice' when calling on NexusHD2, however everything else works just fine. Once you get a bit more confident you can have a play with custom kernels and whatever else.
To install one of these builds follow the link and download the package, then extract everything. I take the MicroSD out of my phone and use a card reader plugged into my PC to format the MicroSD FAT32. Quick format works fine for me. Then I copy the files into a folder called 'Android' (do not use all capitals) in the root of the SD card. Then boot into Windows, use file explorer to find your 'Android' folder and run CLRCAD.exe (nothing will happen - that's fine). Then run HARET.exe, click 'yes' when told about an unknown publisher, and it will proceed to boot you into Android.
First boot may take up to 10 minutes, as the device creates a virtual 'phone memory' for your apps and sets up the kernel. Once it's booted and at the lock screen, leave it for fifteen minutes. After fifteen minutes, unlock and power off your phone completely. Rinse and repeat the booting process, and your Android should be working perfectly.
I'll keep an eye on your thread in case you have other questions. Make sure you flash that radio first, or you'll be in all kinds of trouble.
Good luck!
Justin
This is exactly what ive been looking for Juzz. can you elaborate on activesync and the radio more? installation, etc? and that froyo work with gen. y? If not, whats a good dual boot?
Truaim,
ActiveSync isn't actually called ActiveSync anymore, it's Windows Mobile Device Center on Vista and Windows 7.
When you connect your HD2 running Windows to your computer with the USB cable, you are asked (on the phone) what kind of mode you want to select. ActiveSync is first, then USB Mass Storage, Internet Gateway etc. ActiveSync is the mode where you can update new firmwares, install HardSPL, and (if you use them) sync Outlook calendars, mail and contacts.
I am assuming you have HardSPL installed, which you use to flash custom Windows ROMs? It's not necessary (strictly speaking) for Android, but makes flashing radios easier. Let me know if you need me to cover that more.
Android on the HD2 only works with radios that follow the '2.xx.50.xx' format. They MUST have that .50 or you'll run into trouble. Flashing a new radio is just like flashing a new ROM. You download the installer, extract and run CustomRUU.exe, which launches the update process. Your phone needs to be in ActiveSync mode for this to work.
If you follow my previous link to the radio thread, you'll find all the .50 radios at the top. I'd go with the 2.15.50.14 radio first. Download it, connect your phone, unzip and run CustomRUU. Then follow the prompts. Your phone will do a few odd things, reboot and be running the new radio. It doesn't change Windows in any way, shape or form. It just updates your radio. You won't see any changes, except in the 'About' page where it lists the radio version.
Hope this helps!
Justin
Also, I run the 1.66.405.2 Generic WWE HTC Windows 6.5 ROM. I don't use any kind of bootloader (I'd rather be sure CLRCAD was run myself). There are a couple of stripped-down Windows ROMs floating around, but I find battery life isn't affected a whole lot by running a regular Windows ROM.
Cheers.
Just in case the radio package you get doesn't have CustomRUU...
The most recent stock ROM (3.14) is reported by many to be a very good ROM for running Android with. I use it myself and have had 0 issues. (It comes with radio 2.15.50, which is great for Android.)
It also means that, for once, my phone is in a perfectly "legit" state and I could send it off for repair without worry.
And I'm sorry, but there are no "best builds" for Android. The ones that are regularly updated are all running very well, so it depends what you want from it. I'd recommend ignoring recommendations and trying a few different ones yourself, as that's the only way you'll find what you like.
I bought my HD2 used, so I wont be sending it in. in fact, if it were possible id remove windows entirely. where can i see if i already have that radio installed?

Reboot your phone and look out for the info in the bottom left of the screen when you get the first white screen with HTC logo. The number next to R is the radio version you have.
My radio is currently 2.8.50.08... is this compatible with mdj sense 4.6 suggested above?
Should be fine mate. Give it a whirl.
Good luck!
my radio is 2.05.51
will this work or do i need to go back to 2.xx.50 ?

Please read up about subjects before asking questions in future.
It is stated all over the forums that you need at least 2.08.50 (don't use a .51 radio).

WiFi error - "Unable to scan for networks" - multiple NAND roms

Hey all,
I'm usually pretty good at figuring these types of things out, but unfortunately I haven't been able to figure this one out yet.
Wifi works fine in WinMo 6.5 and WinPhone 7. I haven't tried SD version of Android, but I'd rather not go that route as I want to be able to use a fully functioning NAND version of Android.
I have done Task29/wipe data/cache/dalvik cache on many occasions, repartitioned, reinstalled WinMo 6.5 and then started over with MAGLDR (latest version), replaced wifi module libraries, but nothing has proven to work. Everything else is perfect, though.
Somebody has to have experienced this before? I couldn't find much in terms of a solution by searching.
Thanks!
What HD2 Radio version are you using?
What Android ROM are you using?
Have you made sure that it is a MAGLDR version you are trying to install, not the cLK version?
Why would you need to replace the WiFi module librarys as your ROM should work without error after installation?
A bit more info and we should be able to sort this one out!

Hey. Thanks for joining!
- Radio 2.15.50.14 and one of the older ones which was installed when I picked up this phone
- Roms:
NDT MIUI Froyo V6.2 currently.
Tried [CWR] BOYPPC-SHIFTPDA_GINGER 2.3.4-Sense.s V29 (12.Jun), CMYLXGO's Stock Desire HD(2) NAND ROM v1.1.17 and a few others i can't remember. All MAG versions.
I tried replacing the libs, because i've read that as part of a fix for related wifi problems from earlier this year.
Thanks!

You have the most common Radio 2.15.50.14 so that isn't the problem.
The fix is mainly for cLK versions so it could use the PPP interface but if you are using MAGLDR then that isn't needed - this alone could be your problem, I reccomend not installing this patch any more?!
I play with roms a lot and normally my errors are due to using a kernel which the rom wasn't developed for - or more recently, frequent drops to the internet.
When my drops happened, I had done nothing different but it seems that a change in CM7 source now addressed my routers security settings differently - I have no idea when it was added and I was lucky enough to find a firmware update for my router which solved the problem.
Out of interest, when you click on wifi, does it say error or does it try to connect and randomly drop? Error would indicate a kernel/radio/hardware problem and dropping or not connecting would possibly indicate router problem.
Possibly, one of the best places to start is the security settings of your router, disable all security and see if it will connect... if it does then apply security - I use WPA2 PSK TKIP and it now works for me!
NDT MIUI Froyo V6.2 & CMYLXGO's Stock Desire HD are quite old (In terms of development), BOYPPC-SHIFTPDA_GINGER 2.3.4-Sense.s V29 is new and updated frequently so i'm unsure why all would have the same problem?!?!.
You could also try my rom located in my signature "HardDroid2" as I have extensively tested this and have no problems (Not trying to punt my rom at all!).
If changing your router settings or no other roms work then it is beyond me as there are only a few combinations af possible hardware/software faults!
Hope this helps
Already installed Is the phone supposed to boot in Airplane mode enabled for the first boot?
Ok, unfortunately the same issue with WiFi. What happens when i turn wifi on is it takes about 15 seconds for the check to appear in the box, then it stays on for about 15 more seconds with no networks showing, then it turns off automatically. The same thing with every rom I've tried, unless I start messing with libs or conf files at which point I get "error" or it doesn't turn on at all.
Thanks!

Ummmm... NOPE!
I think your problem is with your radio rom. I would reccomend starting from scratch!
This is what I do and it works fine for me:
Prep SD Card: Format FAT32 and also create a 1GB Ext3 Partition (For apps2SD if needed)
Copy the rom update.zip to FAT32 partition of SD Card & Insert into phone.
Run HSPL3_PKG.exe and install HSPL 2.08
Flash Radio_Leo_2.15.50.14
Run Task 29 - wipe phone
Install MAGLDR 1.1.3
start device (Hold down power button until menu list appears) choose USB Flasher
Install Recovery 150MB System/5MB Cache (ClockworkMod Recovery v4.0.0.0)
Start MAGLDR (Hold down power button until menu list appears) Select "AD Recovery"
Boot ClockworkMod and install update.zip from SD Card.
I'm not trying to teach you how to suck eggs... but maybe there is a little step you may of missed?!?!?

I would reccomend re-downloading the files, especially the radio rom as I have a feeling it may be corrupted - don't know why it would work on WP7 though??
Use the HSPL3_PKG.exe to install HSLP 2.08 as it is regarded as the best.
I use Loader 2.10 KSubedi (MAGLDR 1.1.3 Debranded) just for asthetic reasons.
We will get there!!! lol
Same deal, unfortunately. I've noticed that the mac address is "unavailable" at all times, including the 10 secs the wifi is actually on (according to the switch)

Did you re-download the radio from here?: http://www.multiupload.com/QP0IWGY42F
I don't understand why your wifi works under wm6.5 (which installs during flashing rom) & WP7 (which runs the same way as android nand) but not under android... I would of classed it as a corrupted file and im completely at a loss!!!!
It can't be a hardware fault and there isn't any differences in earlier/later versions of the HD2's wifi module!!!
OK, I admit it.... I'm stumped!

If you install the latest rom and then task 29, you still have the radio version which installed with the rom as task 29 doesn't touch that section!
I remember a couple of years ago when I changed the wifi module on a PSP that it no longer held a mac address when using original Sony firmware... has your device been in for repair?
Just a thought really, i'm grabbing at straws since it really doesn't make sense to me!

I'm not sure about its history as I bought it used. Tomorrow is another day with more opportunities to resolve this issue.
Nothing changed by me installing a stock T-mobile WinMo 6.5 then going through the process of converting to NAND android. I found out that I'm not able to save a manual Wi-Fi network entry. Maybe this is a clue for the problem?
Thanks!

Well looking into the kernel, it seems that it will create a custom MAC address for each device to get past the 00:11:22:33:44:55 issue (I don't know what variables it would use to create this but possibly imei???)
There are no really adjustable settings in wpa_supplicant.conf which would help (As far as I can see)
Since you aren't showing a MAC address, it would indicate a problem with your hardware (as no other device has this problem) But why Windows roms would still work is beyond me and the only change in hardware revisions over the life of the HD2 has been to the lcd screen and not the radio hardware.
I have searched and tried to find more information on this but i'm unable to find a conclusive answer or solution
Here is a thought: Download the files which I use from here: http://www.andbuddy.com/files/FOBBu1308083933.html
This contains all the files which I use and a small guide - Please follow ALL the steps as this has given me a 100% working device!
If it still doesn't work after this then I will have to admit that i'm beaten

I'm suspecting that the actual wifi related hardware is damaged somewhere, maybe the coaxial cable, at least in my phone.
Do you try solution : http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=827521
i try but i can't do step 6 :
"6. Go to menu Device -> File Explorer. New window will come up."
it not show file
- I Think problem relate with hardware because with the same Room , same Radio , same Wif network other device ok but of me false
