I recently installed CM7 nightly 213 on an SD card using verygreen's size-agnostic installer. This is my first time doing this so forgive me if this is a noob question.
I had a bunch of apps from Amazon that I had already installed on my phone. I installed the appstore on my nook color and I started downloading and installing the apps from my account. However once they are installed, they don't show up in the launcher.
I did look around using the File Manager and found some directories in /mnt/asec that had folders with names that indicated some of the apps I downloaded created them. Inside them there are "pkg.apk" files. If I run that, the app gets installed again and I can then see it in the Launcher.
If I go into Application settings->Manage applications I see them all there. If I go into a specific one and say "Move to SD Card" or "Move to Phone" (whichever option I have), the app will then show up in launcher. I can toggle it back and forth, i.e. SD Card to Phone and back, and it will continue to appear in the launcher.
This isn't really a big deal, but it is kind of odd. Is it a setting I have somewhere, or is this a bug somehow?
What launcher are you using?

If this post helped you don't forget to say thanks!
Just whatever the default one is.
Open the "drawer" by tapping the square icon in the bottom center (at least, it's there by default). Icons for all of your apps will be shown.
Scroll until you find the one you want, then long-press it until it lights up. Keep holding it. Drag it downwards, you'll drop back into the default launcher screen, and you can drag it to where you want it and let go.
This is the basic way to organize your launcher screens.
You can long-press any icon and move or remove it; removing doesn't uninstall.
Good luck!

I had downloaded and installed a few launchers... in particular adw ex, launcher pro, he, and zeam. I decided to stick with the stock launcher and for some reason, even tho I chose to make the stock my default, after reading the home button a few times, it brings me to the selection dialog. I am running stock firmware rooted with visionary.

Are you talking about the pop up that asks you to select the home launcher? If so, it's because you still have the other launchers installed. You can uninstall the other launchers or you should have a check box at the bottom of the selection pop up (something about use default). Check it and select HTC Sense.

Yeah, I'm talking about the pop-up. And usually when I select one as the default, it works. Hitting home will take me to the home screen, but after a few times, its like it forgets which launcher is default, and brings the popup back up.
Try using Home Manager from the marketplace.
If all else fails, you can always delete ADW and LP
yes, just delete the ones you dont want
My ADW Ex has been going nuts the last few days. A lot of FC.
Its updated to the latest version

ok i figured out how to prove it forgets the launcher. With multiple launchers installed, choose one as your default. Now hold the home button down until the list of recently used apps pops up, now hit the home key.
make sure none of the launchers have been moved to the sd card...
Well at the moment I only have adw installed. Its really starting to piss me off lol. Wish there was a fix.

If you don't want the stock launcher, just remove it. You can do this by deleting Rosie.apk from the /system/app folder. And if you're going to do that, delete all the now useless sense widgets from there as well. That'll make it so that you only have your after market launcher. And if you want to make it a system app, just copy and paste the .apk into the /system/app folder. In theory it should help prevent the launcher stay in memory. This is exactly what I did and my Iced Glacier flies!
Get launcher switcher free from app store... select the launcher you want as default... make sure you CLEAR in the app the old launcher defaults (bottom of page) and Viola your done....

Yesterday i noticed a change in DESKTOP VISUALIZER not showing the icon packs any longer. I rooted my phone and all looked OK. I installed CMP player with ASTRO file manager and opened up from within ASTRO and all looked ok. I looked for the CMP icon in the app list and it was not there.
I went to run Titanium backup and the icon was missing from the app list. I went to the market, uninstalled it and installed it again and the icon was still missing from the app list.
Does anyone have any idea what happened or how to fix?
thanks
By chance are you running Launcher Pro? If so, check to make sure it is not a "hidden app" there. I was missing the Music icon and found it was hidden there.
launcher pro
Yes I am running launcher pro. There is nothing checked in hidden apps. HOWEVER I did find the CONNECTED MUSIC PLAYER icon in the app list. I found it when i noticed there were 2 identical "MUSIC" icons in the list. The second icon was the newly installed app. BUT, Titanium backup is still not there. The only thing i can think of is i installed Titanium before I rooted the phone though I did not run anything in the program. I'll try uninstalling it again and rebooting the phone and reinstall. The icon packs are still not showing in DESTOP VISUALIZER.
Try toggling the option to show hidden apps... unless the apps you're looking for do show up in the "hide" list, and are unchecked.
oops
End of Flesh......this is embarassing......I installed the PRO version (key) of titanitum without installing the program itself which is why there was no icon...
I can be dumb sometimes ((((
However, the original problem still exists. Desktop Visualizer allows you to chose an application to put on your homescreen, then allows you to choose an icon to use with the app. It gives you 3 choices of where to get your icons: Image File, App Icon, or Icon Pack. Previously when i choose Icon Pack, about 15 of my installed apps came up in the list. When i choose one of those apps, a window would open showing me a picuture of icons that particular app draws on. I simply selected one of the icons and it was associated with the app i had chosen. Now when I select Icon Pack, i get a message saying no icon packs are installed, which is true, but something changed since those apps using their own icon packs no longer appear. I got some pretty neat icons that way, but am hoping nothing got messed up somewhere along the line. I didn't un-install anything or do anything out of the ordinary that i can remember.
Anyway, thanks for your help...greatly appreciated.

I use the folder organiser app to create folder like the one you mentioned
You can't create folders in with the standard honeycomb launcher, try ADW EX
ES File Manager will do the trick, and a lot more

let me help a bit more here.
For some strange reason, google took out the default folders in honeycomb. So now you have to use a third party application, but don't worry because many of them are actually better, and you can also add a custom icon to your folder.
The three big ones are:
Folder Organizer (paid), allows you to make folders and give custom icons to any app you have installed. Lots of customization but the icons get a little smaller than the phone versions. You can also choose the order of the icons in your folder.
Apps Organizer (free). basically nothing more than putting your apps into folders. Also allows you to customize the icon of the folder. icons are phone size.
Smart Shortcuts (free). allows for apps, contacts, and bookmark folders with customiseable icons. no sorting. icons are phone size. Though the dev has told me personally that he's working on enabling the larger honeycomb icons.
there are others such as ES file manager but these are the 3 big ones. personally i use smart shortcuts on my transformer as well as folder organizer for custom icons (desktop visualizer doesn't work on honeycomb yet.
Thank for all you help guys!
I've been using Zeam 2.8.8 as my desktop launcher and think it's great for our Nooks. I am having a problem when trying to remove large widgets, i.e 4x2, 2x3. I long press the widget and drag it to the trash can, I'm not that stupid, but when it's in the right spot the widget and trashcan are supposed to both turn red. Problem is on a grayscale like Nook there is no visiable change in color. Is there an app I can use to remove the widget? I've been looking for an app the past three days but not lucky. I also am using ES File manager which allow sys access. Is the wedget listed somewhere in the system files so I can delete it? Go Launcher is more better in terms of widget removal.
I moved Chrome from the Google folder to the desktop and subsequently removed it from there. Now it no longer shows up in the folder or the app drawer. It is still installed and I can open it if I search for it, but I can't find the icon to place it back on the home screen. I even uninstalled The Update AND Re updated It To No avail. Thanks for any help getting it back
Check your frozen apps on the far right tab under Settings - Application Manager. Unfreeze it. One bug I have noticed so far is if you drag and drop into folders in the app drawer as soon as your restart they dissappear. Best way to add apps to folder is to add them via the plus sign button.
