Hello everyone,
since I have a custom bootloader I cannot receive any official OTA updates, however I'd be glad if someone could upload/link an image of the update-2 ROM of the htc hero. (which includes a youtube app and twitter update). I have already looked for it on the internet with no success.

This rom from Elelinux is almost stock, more stock rom you will not find here with the latest hero updates.
Link
But this is update1 ROM. Has update2 ever been released for Hero?

I am pretty sure, because on one hand with the update1 rom it asks if i want to upgrade(however i cannot with custom bootloader) and htc also announced it. It should have a twitter and a youtube app fix.
i think update 2 was fr sprint users?
n besides it was never released wit update2
two versions of 2.1 update1 were released by sprint despite being different releases both were called update1 :S
speaking of YouTube. its really annoying getting the cannot play video notification. is there any fix for this? or any rom which the YouTube app flawlessly works on.

hmm i've just sent a mail to the support.. I'll let you know what they answer to the youtube bug.
I would really really love to see the latest stock rom in flashable form.
The one with the twitter update.
I think there is backup of the rom somewhere on the forum.

what twitter update? peep in update1 works perfectly. and the twitter app from the market is far better than peep anyhow. peep is only a requirement in htc roms that have friendstream, which isn't in any official hero roms, only in ports from other phones.

i found this on internet, but it's Southeast Asia version(well, it Singapore OTA release and my country is next to it; Malaysia). i dunno if u can flash this into your hero but it's worth to take a look. (I'm not responsible for whatever happens to your hero or you) Here is the link for the webpage. i still doubt whether it comes with a new locked bootloader or not. so, have fun trying(or just ask someone here to hack/mod it for us)

I also go to: Menu\setting\about phone\system updates. Nothing is update!
So how can I update?!
Thanks
you either wait for the OTA update to come on its own, or wait for someone to post an official 1.6 download link and then flash it through recovery mode.
OTA stands for Over The Air update, supposedly TMobile is the one that sends the updates over,so maybe you will see a pop up windows asking/telling you to update.
I think with cupcake it took them a few weeks to roll it out to everyone, could be a while for the ordinary user.
but there were also official download links up within a few days. this made it easy for people who actually knew how to operate their phones to get the update.
Settings/About Phone/System Update only works once the ota has been stored in /cache. It should ask first if you want to donwload it and apply it

no there are not threads for people using more recent 1.6 roms than 4.1.11.1 in this forum. so no, no one knows.
4.1.11.1 was experimental for testing and feed back so no it was not as stable as more recent ones since adp1 1.6 rom was released u can't fault it though it was experimental
I must be one of the lucky ones. I got it about 11:25 central time. I have not had time to abuse it yet but some of the interfaces look better. Market and camera look good. I did not even have a sim card in the damn G1 and it pushed through on wifi. go figure. so far so good though.

I have a G1 that has been rooted and is running xROM.
I assume that I will not get the update to 1.6 OTA is that right?
I would like to install it and check it out how would I go about that?
I found this on HTC's Web Site
HTC Developer
About halfway down the screen they have the images for 1.6, 1.5, ect.
I just don't know if I can use one of those images and load it like I did when I loaded xROM.
Thanks.

I know, the upgrade is not ready yet, but maybe someone knows the answer to my question:
Would it be possible to downgrade to the official 1.5 rom after I upgrade to the oficial 2.1?
Thing is, I don't know if everything will work fine. I heard there are problems with video/picture quality etc. on the sprint 2.1 rom and there might be other issues. I will of course upgrade, but I'd be happy to know that I could downgrade again.
Don't worry, Hero will never get an official 2.1 update since HTC wants us to buy HTC Legend / Desire instead.

Urm,... Possibly,... But I really wouldn't recomend it.
At the moment, when trying to downgrade from one official ROM to another we have to use a process using a "goldcard",... However this exploit may be shut down in the new updates.

Coming in August or Septemer 2010 is as good as not coming at all.
Using's Dr.Death FOTA fetcher (found here), I've compiled a list of all the shipped roms and their respective OTA updates as of 21/02/2011
I've writen an script that checks all known RUU and OTA version, if it finds an OTA not known, it will be marked as FOUND NEW VERSION ###
WARNINGS: DO NOT FLASH THOSE OVER A ROOTED ROM OR YOU'LL LOSE IT!
All Froyo (3.x) updates includes an new HBOOT 1.01 and can't be S-OFF
All versions above 1.x can't be rooted, if you update, you'll have to downgrade the phone
OTA updates are patches only and can be used exclusively for the rom version it was built for.

No idea, it's the letter after the rom version, I thought I'll leave it, could it be R for Radio? I'll go check the content of those OTA and see if there's any similarity and/or difference.
For download, no problem, I can have them uploaded to my server.
I'll look into finding their change logs but that's lot of manual labor lol

I'd suggest you not update to 2.05 because of the SMS sorting bug unless you use a 3rd party messaging app, when you open a conversation, it starts at the top, oldest first.
If you do still want 2.05, you can grab the HTC asia WWE 1.31.707.2, which then gives you OTA update 1.31.707.3 and then 2.05.707.1
Or one of the Vodafone 1.31.x or 1.32.x
But the best right now is 2.03, I'd just grab 2.03 stock rooted or flash the RUU, in which case you'll loose root and have a harder time to get it back if you choose too
2.03 stock, rooted

but i am using asia_india rom ... for that 1.32 rom doesnt have any ota update ...
Hello everyone,
I'm new here. Haven't done to my Legend anything yet but am considering and I'll read more threads about it on this very good forum. Would like to have Froyo and wifi tethering because of my android tablet.
However, I just thought to mention (maybe this is not the place; if so, I'm sorry) that I run 2.05.720.1 which is not on the list. If you want it and if I can, I wouldn't mind grabbing it and posting it here/sending it to Kwen or whoever will update the list. I haven't noticed any bugs or problems with this build apart from the obvious that it's not Froyo. That's the only reason why I haven't gone cyanogen yet.
Cheers,
Steve

Hi, all.
First timer here. Got the wife a Hero for X-mas. Notice it's slow sometimes, so thought I'd upgrade. It's on 1.5 now. I ultimately want to get on Android 2.1. However, in the phone settings info screen, there is no update option. I thought this might be due to the firmware not being up-to-date so was going to start by upgrading that. But I don't know which ROM to use.
I bought the unlocked phone in Switzerland, but it was clearly imported from the UK. I see on the HTC site there are several ROMs which are carrier specific. There seems to be a generic ROM on the bottom of the HTC page which says "ROM Upgrade for HTC Hero" with no specific carrier. This one looks to be the generic ROM, which I should use. Is that the case?
I've tried looking for a general tutorial, but they all also seem to be tied to carriers (Sprint, T-Mobile, etc).
Cheers.
Hi Bozo,
firstly do not be tempted to update your firmware to the latest one on the HTC web site, if you do that and also update to the HTC 2.1 ROM, you will not be able to ROOT your Hero without firstly downgrading again.
ROOTing your Hero will allow you to go beyond 2.1 to 2.2 ROMs, these are mostly in development at the moment but I've tried several so far and have settled on Android Version Froyd Villain1.6 (2.2.1) which has been great for several weeks with no crashes and plenty quick.
Hope this helps!
There are plenty of web guides on how to ROOT your Hero also Youtube videos.

Thanks for the reply. Is it the firmware that prevents rooting, the ROM, or both?
I've seen several of the videos on rooting. But again, they often reference a specific carrier model Hero, mostly Sprint.
I'd check out this post. Ignore the stuff about updating RADIO though.

There are many great ROMs to choose from; CM6.1, Froyo 2.2.1 Final (by Elelinux), FroydVillain 1.7.0 My personal preference would be Elelinux's one.
Just go for Feeyo's 2.3 1.0.1 best one ever.

I second that!
I am a flash-aholic and have tried nearly all the 2.3 roms. By far the best is cronos 1.0.1 It is uber fast (faster than any 2.1 I have tried) and has a brilliant forum community, with the dev responding quickly to any bugs.
Have fun!
Why shouldn't he update to the official 2.1 Rom? It is said to be rootable with Universalandroot! (see http://blog.23corner.com/2010/08/30/universal-androot-1-6-2-beta-5/#more-407) So getting the official 2.1 would also be a reasonable step towards more speed!
And I don't see a downside of doing so...

I am just curious will htc release 2.3 android for wildfire??? Anyone know???
Best regards
Sent from my HTC Wildfire using XDA App
Unlikely. But, this has officially neither been confirmed nor denied. Someone sent a mail to HTC, and, got a standard automated reply "We will notify you if we are providing 2.3 for Wildfire... bla bla bla"
Anyhow, as I said previously, in my personal opinion, it is unlikely. More so now, because the Wildfire S is out.
Good point there... I mean it is kind of strange that we have custom roms for wildfire based on gingerbread that work quite fine, and then we dont have original rom with gingerbread... and then stupidest move of all is to lock bootloader and all that malarky that makes froyo unrootable...
Am I right or wrong???

It's to force people to ditch their Wildfire and get their new line of phones. Simple and cold business logic.
why the hell do u need official gingerbread on ur wildfire. the official froyo for wildfire updated the bootloader and implemented greater security on the bootloader, so that no one knows whether it will be rooted or not. 4months of work without any result.
i dont want official gingerbread on my device. and i dont want any further security on my bootloader. need someone to root my wildfire.
the answer to ur question is wildfire is not getting any official gingerbread. the 3 network in UK has already confirmed that.
the reason is simple. wildfire s is releasing this may, which decreases the htc support to the original wildfire.

Hero wasn't a budget device but the Wildfire is.
HTC Tattoo for an example is still on 1.6.
Also HTC UK said on facebook, "Because of the capabilities of the wildfire we think its best for now to keep the wildfire on 2.2"
Which makes no sense, Gingerbread is even faster.

great news dude. it means that even u can still root ur froyo wildfire now. ur patience benefitted u. to be patient is what i learn frm u.

i think the modified version definately has an updated radio, updated recovery image, and other updated things leaving the HBOOT unupdated. do u face any problems with this issue.
i think the modified update is OTA UPDATE zip file. and in that ota zip file, we will see firmware.zip .
the firmware .zip contains boot.img and HBOOT file
i think u replaced the boot.img and HBOOT with an older version eclair RUU. am i correct

No one has, because Gingerbread Sense does not boot on the Wildfire. Atleast yet.
Gingerbread is pretty light, It has the exact requirements of Froyo.
It will not run slow, there are custom roms that prove that.
HTC is just forcing you to buy a new phone.
I think I'll go Samsung next time.

+1 on samsung. I myself am thinking of getting a Galaxy Ace. Rooted my friend's ace yesterday - it was so easy! Just psneuter (superoneclick) is enough - and you have full system r/w access. Trying to get CWM running on it now
Actually, a lot of the new SE phones are supposed to ship with unlockable bootloaders. As far as I know, anyway. Neo, Arc and Play, at least. These seem to be fairly high-end.
Just wondering whether they will back out soon like they did with PS3's OtherOS option.
