Have you tried different radios+kernels?
Have you tried getting closer to the WiFi router, or putting it closer to you?
Radios and kernels won't help, if the problem persists over different ROMs - it's either HW problem (WiFi antenna connection) or lack of knowledge and high expectations. And radio has nothing to do with WiFi whatsoever.

I was trying to troubleshooting bad wifi calling. Three different routers and still bad quality when using the stock 2.2.1 rom. When I tried rc4 the quality jumped to acceptable quality. Anyone else noticing this?
I use cm nightlies and have great success with wifi calling. My wife uses stock and people can never gear her when she uses it. Sounds lime she's standing in a closet talking.
No idea what the difference is.

I got an echo on stock. Still crappy with cm7 rc 4. Just no echo.

I will say absolutely nothing. I am running CM7, my wife is running 100% stock. Neither of us have any issues at all with wi-fi calling. Sounds like a regular full bar phone call for both of us. (horrible service at house so we always have it on)
My wife's issue is fixed.. kid stuck something in mic hole. Removed with toothpick and both of us have crystal clear wifi calling.
Kids are awesome. Sometimes.

Are you using any custom roms/radios?
Some ROMs seem to have better wifi signals than others for some reason...
Yeh I'm using hydrogen 1.8 with radio 12.54.60.25U_26.09.04.11_M2 with matching ril files or whatever

Try to flash different radio. Worked for me.
With matching ril or Nah ?

Maybe try a different kernel.

Kernel ? What would the kernel have to do with the WiFi ?

Are u using any custom rom.l or stock rom?.. I have the week wifi with cyanogen rom's .. also the antennas on the phone are not in good places so in landscape mode while covering the top of the phone wifi signal drops no matter wat rom you use

yep, i think cyanogen has lower wifi volts than stock so u get less range.
i made a barebones stripped ROM based on the newest tmo OTA, i made optimizations to get better battery life, and stripped tons out to get the most ram possible, and keep the ui fast and snappy.
my newest version 1.3, offers the best battery life in any rom that i have ever used, its super fast (no need for OC), offers the most free ram and is located here :

give it a try!
Ah nice will sure be giving it a try!

I have thought that CyanogenMod has a bit weaker wifi reception, but I believe it also suffers another bug: the wifi icon will often go dark even when you have a full signal... So I think looking at the icon can be deceiving. Mine will go dark, looking like a bad connection, but will indeed work just fine.
To add make sure the setting under Wireless Networks > Wi-Fi Settings > [menu] > Advanced > Wi-Fi Sleep Policy is at your preference for when the wifi turns off at screen sleep.
So nope still not fixed tried the from, same. any other ideas? Or there's any way to up the voltages ?

hy!
I have that problem to , it seems that firmwares 2.3.5 and 2.3.6 has some problems with routers ( not all ) i have a belkin and when i installed those firmwares i observed the problem now i`m using 2.3.4 with cf-root and semaphore and works properly
I do have an smc barricade and an UPC router i dont know the model of it but that one disconnects too.. it's very weird never had this problem on Miui/ics/froyo/gingerbread, and flashed over 100 roms! So i think it's too about that 2.3.5-2.3.7 firmware problem :/ i hope that this will be fixed because i dont have an unlimited data plan

Probably a noob question, but have you controlled the suspend policy in the advanced wifi settings?

So I bought this phone about a week ago, and have noticed something rather odd...the signal is never locked, it is either emergency calls only or mobile network not available or it does work...but when it does work it lasts for like 3 minutes... I live in Honduras and don't know what the issue might be.. I used to have a captivate and had the best signal one can ask for...any help?

Try flashing a different modem. Check siky_dudes thread in dev section.
silkys thread is only for cm7/cm9/miui modems!

Im running ics aokp milestone 4...the problem persists...is there any modem thread you guys can refer me to?
Sent from my GT-I9000 using xda premium
It'll not help to flash another rom or modem! I had the same problem, tried almost every modem/rom but couldn't solve it. I think one out of 100000 i9000's has signal problems.
I don't recommend to do this;
I used to solve it by plugging in an isolated copper wire into the coaxial input on the back of the device. Here's a link to the thread I started with two videos.

Dude, give that thing back if you can!! Nothing will help! You can do whatever you want, but you'll never achive more than 7-15% more signal and that's nothing relevant!!

i have same problem after new ICS updates it take like 1-3 minute to get network signal i tried different modems and still nothing
It has improved inside the city, i go to school outside of town and there I have no signal...at least I can call and text from home...

First of all you should determine what might have caused the error.
Signal problems can be caused by hardware, software or network provider:
- If the problem occurred after a software update (which is usually change the modem driver) You should flash back the old modem
- If you didn't update or change firmware or the modem it can be a hardware issue (dropped phone, water damage etc.) If you don't experience hw you wouldn't disassemble.Give it to someone who has experience in this topic.
- Sometimes signal problem can be cause by the network provider (network error or upgrade) It is usually temporary problem you have to wait and get good signal few hours/days later.
I hope I helped in the first step to get to the final solution.
