Getting original ROM Swype to work - Huawei Ideos X5 U8800

Hi Folks
Before flashing custom ROMs, I used AndroZIP Pro to back up the original phone apps including Swype (Swype Version 2.20.62.16360).
I'm using Oxygen R3 at present and thought to re-install my Swype backup.
Swype installs okay but force closes any time I try to configure it or set it as default input method. I've unstalled and reinstalled in a couple of times.
Any ideas for making the original X5 Swype operative?
Naj

Same happened to me.
You can download the latest Swype Beta from their website though and it works fine.
Cheers

I have same problem. Beta version doesn't support finnish language while oem version in original rom does. Tried slideit and other swype kind of keyboards, but none is as good as swype.

You can make swype work with a little tweaking. I succeeded it before on Oxygen by copying swype.apk to /system/app and libswypecore.so to /system/lib from stock ROM.
It will not work, however if you compare Oxygen's build.prop file with stock build.prop you should make few amendments by implicating stock ROM's build.prop. I cannot remember the exact lines however I remember that changing some of these lines worked for me. You should change the build.prop values of the custom ROM to the stock build.prop values.
ro.product.model
ro.product.brand
ro.product.name
ro.product.device
ro.product.board
ro.product.manufacturer
Please backup your build.prop file before you change and also get ready to mess the system. Maybe someone else may give more specific information about which of the variables above should be changed.
I am using GoKeyboard at the moment. It has "swipe" option, just for your information. It also has "Finnish" dictionary.

I have the stock latest rom (overseas) and it doesn't work either. Any tip ?

Swype Keyboard HTC legend....

Hi there,
I'm looking for the Swype keyboard for the HTC Legend. I'm currently running a Froyo Rom. I tried one from this website, which didn't work so well, I don't know if it was me or the application because when I opened it, it told me that my trial period expired and that I should upgrade my Swype keyboard application. When I tried using Swype, it would show the line going across but it just wouldn't do anything when I go through the letters, I can only tap on the letters, which would be useless because I would just go back to the normal input method. Any tips? Ideas? Or links to a good Swype Keyboard? The one I tried using but didn't work was:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=660206
Thanks for the help.
I have that problem as well ever since the latest version of Swype and after I upgraded to Froyo. Not sure whose fault is it. I switched to Gingerbread keyboard since.
try this rar with version 1.6 swype apk file in it
EDIT: as asked by MOD
you can try to register on swype beta site, and get a newer version of swype. i'm using it, and it work like a charm.
I'mm using Swype since about 3 month. I registered to the beta-program, a friend of mine registered last week and got his version about an hour later. I'm using cyanogenmod 6.1 (Froyo) and swype works like a charm. I also tried cynogenmod 7 (Gingerbread), but there swype closes always.
Get rid of d/l links, or a MOD will. I won't report it, I'm just warning you. On XDA this is seen as warez, and Swype has asked that all download links are removed from here, and all other forums. This sucks, I know. Apply to beta test and hope.
Sorry guys
im on the official swype beta and running froyo...seems like everytime i reboot my phone i have to re-install swype? anyone else have this annoying problem?
Off to Gingerbread
I'm sorry if this is a little off topic, but can anyone please send me a working apk of the Gingerbread keyboard?
I'm on Blayo's ROM, 0.5. I've been trying the app in the market with no success. The app keeps getting FC as soon as I touch the keyboard.
Thank you very much!

I think that is the case if you install swype on sd.
Try to move the app to your phone.

I am having the same problem, but I'm using data2ext on balyo's b05 rom.I solve this problem by switching input method to touch input and then back to swype.swype is back to normal.

I am using swype on my legend, every reboot you need to long press in a text box and select the android keyboard, then doit again and select swipe, its a known bug. From what i understand it is a problem with timing. Hope this helps.

I was using Swype on Froyo (CyanogenMOD 6.1) without problems. With Gingerbread (CyanogenMOD 7 experimental builds) I had some trouble, as the Swype-keyboard disapeared immediately. After uninstalling Swype and reinstalling it via Swype-Installer everything works again as it should.

[Q] Help with Swype

I wanted to try out the newly released version of swype. So I deleted the preloaded swype and installed the new version. Everything worked fine until I rebooted the phone. Swype kept fc. I did have a back up of the old one. So I deleted the newer swype, and tried to restore the preloaded swype with Titanium Backup. TB said back up finished, but I couldn't find swype in the language section in the settings.
What can I do to have the preloaded swype again?
Moved as not android development
Has anybody successfully replaced pre-installed Swype with latest beta?
I thought I would try and install the latest version of Swype beta to replace the pre-installed version. I rooted, and followed the instructions at http://forum.swype.com/showthread.php?1641-Tutorial-Installing-Beta-Swype-on-Droid-X
However, like the op, Swype kept force closing on me even as I was trying to install it.
Has anybody been successful in updating Swype?
Cheers,
Steve.

Can you remember what steps you took to disable the pre-installed version and install the beta? Rooting, and renaming the 3 files listed didn't seem to work properly for me.
Cheers,
Steve.
I used Titanium Backup to uninstall swype. Then followed the steps on swype website to install the beta version

Swype Beta

Apparently, the new beta will not work if we've already got it installed.
Shame as some of the add-ons and tweaks sound like a good step forward.
Anyone got any ideas if they'll ever update the versions we've got preinstalled? or is it simply waiting on it to leave beta and end up in the store?
With the SGS1, swype was updated whenever the firmware was updated.
It works, you just have to "force install" it.
I've been using it for over a week now. Works great. Can't sync with Facebook (to get custom words) but other than that I'm typing away.
how do u guys get the new version 3 to install? I download the Installer from Swype.com by login to my account. Then when i run it, it say to disable swype first but i was unable to do that.
Thanks 4 the help!

Yep, you have to force uninstall the stock version, which requires root and something like Titanium Backup.
Or, if you like making things more difficult for yourself, you can go into /system/apps and delete Swype.apk and delete libSwypeCore.so from /system/lib and then install.
cool thanks!
Yesh I realised after we could force install it, I'm gonna leave it and hope they update with the next firmware. I'm running pretty close to stock at the minute, want to get a feel for the phone in it's naked state to start with.
Thanks for all the info guys. Much appreciated.
sweet, I forgot to backup my stock swype though before I uninstalled, what will happen when the beta expires?
so i installed the new version, reboot the phone and then swype isnt swyping anymore, just regular typing works. Then i tried to reinstall it and it said "Generating license failed".. anyone knows the fix for this?

Happened to me too I removed the beta with titanium and reinstalled
I like the principle of swype but find it frustrating to use due to the dictionary giving bizarre choices and editing being counter intuative. I look forward to trying beta 3 of swype but until Samsung deliver it on a future firmware update I'm not using it any more. However I have just discovered SlideIT and a m trying it out, it works just like swype and my opinion is favorable, it seems more accurate and easier to edit mistakes. It is a free trial and the full version costs money but it looks like a good alternative too those of us that don't root and therefore can't have swype beta 3 yet
Sent from my GT-I9100 using XDA App
I'd been using the beta for oh maybe 9 months and it only ran out once and all I did was log back into the site and generated another license.
I look forward to Samsung rolling out another version in the firmware. The one installed seemed smoother than my old beta, who knows the new beta might be even better.
Since 2.3 editing wrongly spelt words became much more annoying. Though I swear it's slowly learnt how I type.
So it's not possible without root ?

But one problem, When I install this them, it delete Arabic language in phone setting. Please help me to fix it, I like this them.
Thats because it uses the APAC framework files. I will create one for the Arabic rom, but you have to test it for me as i do not have my milestone.
What is the name of the arabic sbf file? Is it available on and-devopers?

I have other question??
When i flash Ginger keyboard from http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=12366159&postcount=846 and select English and Arabic language for this keyboard, but when i change to Arabic, it's not change letters to Arabic.
I'm searching a way for resolving this problem.
Can you help???????
That keyboard does not have arabic language support.
Sent from my GT-I9100 using Tapatalk
i encourage u to install CyanogenMOD for Milestone RC10
it has full Arabic support for the keyboard and the interface
better performance .... it is times better than the original motorola
the only thing u loose is writing Arabic using the hardware keyboard as this is not implemented yet
motorola is not going to release any updates for the milestone so this would be the next UPGRADE if you need the latest Android on your Milestone, As long as Kabaldan keeps updating it

Is there a way to extract the keyboard Cyanogen MOD ROM for Milestone original ROM 2.2.1 with Arabic language support......????
LatinIME.apk and its corresponding libjni_latinime.so file will be required. The app is in the /system/app folder while the other file is in the /system/lib folder.
You can use the flashable zip from the earlier post you gave me. Just replace the files with the ones from CM7.

Natwest App now available but I can't download it

Hi guys
I am using a HTC Desire HD and I can not find the application in the market place.
So i've checked android market on my PC, I can see the natwest app but it is telling me that my device is not compatible. Any ideas?
Can I get hold of the APK from my brothers phone who is able to download it fine on his Galaxy S2?
Thanks!
It looks pretty cool. I need to save money so it would be good to have something to constantly remind me of how poor I am. I'm in Japan so I wouldn't be able to use it or install it from here.
I'm curious if you can install the APK and get it running. Root Explorer (File Manager) is the type of app which will easily find it probably in the data/app folder.
Seeing as it's a free app, if you can get the apk please pm me. I'd like to try it too just out of curiosity.
Have you modified your LCD density in your build.prop? Try changing it back to 240 then install from the market.
Hi Guys,
I have the exact same problem. Running Desire HD with AR 6.1.3. I am having problems downloading this app and a few others. I have tried the following with no luck.
- Changed LCD Density to 160 and cleared market data and cache
- Changed LCD Density to 240 and cleared market data and cache
- Used LCD Resolution to set the density instead of Rom Toolkit and repeated the steps above.
I am currently using market version 3.1.6 but have tried downgrading to market 3.1.5 but this did not help, also tried all of the above combinations whilst resetting the google services framework with no luck. (told this may help)
I do not understand the checks that the market / google perform on each device to determine compatibility but would it be possible they are checking for root via the SU command - maybe this was a condition of natwest being a secure app? (I have heard they have done this with google video)
This is the only app that I really need, and cant find an apk!
Thanks for any help!

True, but I wouldn't suggest installing a Banking app from anywhere other than the Android Market.
@alex-qts - Did you reboot between making the changes? AFAIK the only what the market would know if you had root was if it requested root, and you accepted it. I could be wrong.

I rebooted after every screen change, but each time I go to install I get the same yellow incompatibility bar and no download button. Strange thing is - I was also having this same issue for the autotrader app, and the LCD density / clear cache trick has worked for that app, but not the natwest? strange.

I had exactly this problem and also wanted to install this only from the Market.
I have had success by following these instructions to change the build fingerprint to something that is supported. I use ARHD 6.1.3.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=18147141&postcount=53120
If it works then credit to wjsturgis3.
It contains the following edit to build.prop which fixes the market issue. The existing ro.build.fingerprint line is replaced with the following:
# Switch fingerprint when there is a US release of 2.3.5
# Original
# ro.build.fingerprint=htc_wwe/htc_ace/ace:2.3.5/GRJ90/150597.1:user/release-keys
# Modified for better Market access
ro.build.fingerprint=htc_wwe/htc_ace/ace:2.3.3/GRI40/87995:user/release-keys
Rebooted and I was then able to download directly from the Market and have just passed security and it's working a treat.

That includes the fingerprint fix but I wouldn't use it as it also has some other items which you may not want, such as Advanced Power Menu.
To do it yourself - You need to be rooted, take a nandroid backup, and then take a copy of the original build.prop file found in /system/ - then just edit the original using ES File Explorer and the built in ES Note Editor to include the new fingerprint line:-
ro.build.fingerprint=htc_wwe/htc_ace/ace:2.3.3/GRI40/87995:user/release-keys
AND put a # symbol at the beginning of the old ro.build.fingerprint line to comment it out. Still useful for future reference.
Reboot and it should work, but just for completeness, I also cleared the data from the Market in Settings>Applications.
Hope this helps,
John
thanks guys I can confirm that editing the build.prop file works! I now have the natwest app!
I simply used the following command to copy the build.prop file onto my computer, then edited and copied back to system folder using root explorer (renamed old build.prop that was in the system root)
adb pull /system/build.prop build.prop
Sorry if my instructions are not great, but it was my first time editing the build.prop file.
Thanks Again!

If that reads anything other than 240 your DPI has been changed.
Many thanks for the help, mine says 240.
What does it actually mean? Is it the resolution? Is it noticeable if I set it to 200, and will everything else still work ok?
