[SOLVED] Zune Mango update? - HD2 Windows Phone 7 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting an

Is anyone having success flashing Mango on their HD2 through Zune?
I was able to use the "force" method to update to NoDo (7392). But Zune will not find any more or the Mango update no matter how many times I try the "force" procedure.
I've installed the latest drivers through Windows Update.

Its a known fix for some including myself..send the devicepro.cab via cab sender and then hopefully zune should find 7720

I've never been able to figure out how to install cabs on my HD2/WP7. What is the procedure for using can sender?
Here is what I get when I try to install the cab.

Wow haven't seen that error code before
when u download the folder there should be a tool update folder select x64 or x84 according to your pc
Download device pro.cab place in folder no other cabs and hit the cab sender

Okay...so I put the device pro in the x64 folder, then run cab sender?
EDIT - still no go. Zune still won't find any other update after NoDo.
The screenshot of the folder is where I put the device pro cab.

I finally figured it out. I put the cab sender file in the x64 tools folder and also the device pro file in there and hit cab sender. It updated and then began the OS update. 7403 was first then 7720.
However, after installing 7720, it rebooted for the purpose of checking for more updates. The phone froze after booting. Now there is a cleanup update for the beta files but it errors out.

Well done...you were not meant to put them in that folder but if it works then why not...have you installed the beta update then? So the devicepro.cab made a difference
Zune can be very tempermental, with the beta update i manage to install it after 8 or 9 tries...in guest account reserve space 15 % and on welcomepage..

Yeah, thanks for help. But I need to know how to send cabs to my HD2 with Mango. I'm not succeeding. Can you please explain in detail where the necessary files need to be and what files need to be there?
I'm trying to remap the buttons so that the call button is set for the camera and found a cab for it, but I can't get it to install.
Eh...nevemind, I accidentally figured it out. Thanks for all the help, though.

you need to put the cab (OEM_DEV_KEYBOARD_2.cab or OEM_DEV_KEYBOARD_3.cab) that you want to send into the "WP7 Update Cab Sender" folder, next to the WP7 Update Cab Sender.bat file and the tools and logs folders.
Delete or remove any previous cabs that are there.
edit; oops i am getting slower, well done

is this the 'official' HTC messaging version 1.8 that was released/hacked a while back?
Has anyone tried this yet?
i´ve tried the update.
HTC Messaging is now really fast, but you always get a Message Sent notification and there is no option to disable this.
Aww... not even with a registry tweak or anything?
try the attached file - in return please check for me the version of that new sms message client. thx
I cannot download from Europe 1 or 2 locales, but can from US, although when I tap on the .exe file once transferred to my device, nothing happens - anyone else experience similar?
In addition, where can I find out the version information of HTC messages so I can check my current one?
[EDIT] Double posting.
Stupid system... stupid poster...
[Mod - please remove or can we just have a "delete own posts" option?]

Experiencing the same error. Sometimes when I run it I get an error stating it's not a valid Win32 application.
HTC Messaging Client 1.5.2016.2424
I looked into this package, and seems this is newer then the HD2 3.04 rom, which that version was 1.5.2016.1228. I converted the exe to a cab.
Here is the EXT for Chefs.
I'll be trying this out and seeing if there is any improvements.
*Note this EXT does not include all the files needed, replace these files with existing EXT Package, or create a new EXT Package.

Its should be run from your phone and not your PC. But even so, nothing happens for me!
Tried downloading it from the HTC site & the Megaupload mirror, but nothing happens when trying to install it on my phone. Could be because i'm using a newer rom? (26 june NRG rom)
I got this hotfix is not comapatible with your device..

I get the same error. I tried running it on the stock Tilt 2 rom. Seems like the enhancement could apply to Tilt 2 rom as well, but HTC only shows this update on the Touch Pro 2 section of their site...
I also received the message "This hotfix is not comapatible with your device" I am using a Sprint TP2 with WM 6.5
I removed the Cab because it will not install, something with the Cert in the EXE file didnt carry over. Here is the FULL EXT Package for Cookers, testing at the moment, it does work with All Sys Builds, currently testing with SYS 21908. also works with SYS 21665.
Will try Cabbing it a different way and Post it, sorry everyone for the prior cab

[Q]software update files

after zune downloads the update, it has to store the files somewhere before deploying them to the phone, right? so, does anyone know where zune would store these temporary files? i couldn't find any relation between zune and my temp folder, so i will assume that it does something else, or that i am wrong. any ideas? i just want to see what i can make of them, or out of curiosity if you want.
process explorers view on the update
attached is a log of a network and file monitor while zune was doing the update.
is that a successful flash you have there? if you can find out which files its bulking at you could then do a compare with the same working file from an HD7 assuming the file isnt encoded in some way it might then allow us to see what needs changed, unless of course it has nothing to do with the registry and its actually doing some kind of IMEI check or somekind of hardware scan
another posibility is that its bulking because its finding something in the ROM that is consistant only to the DFT release s file name, reg settings or perhaps some hardware ID
Well I got this far, it backup my settings, after a few reboots and one disconnect, but I got " We couldn't back up your phone because your registry settings are incorrect."
What if I simply remove the SD, reset device, and the partition is set on device instead of on SD. It appears that other than some basic hardware reg tweaks for the ROM the original DFT(ROM) is pretty close to stock. Im more curious about Microsoft's update and implantation procedures and possibility of bypassing than just simply updating my HD2. I figure a rom with updates will be provided soon enough. What do you all think?

Thanks for providing this, seems that's where were stuck at. For now... bwa haha lol (joke).
If you're interested in the update file, I zipped up and attached what I found. Windows Phone 7 Connector (Mac OS X) stores the files in
~/Library/Application Support/Windows Phone 7 Connector/Cache/Device Update/
The update seems to be packaged in a MS cabinet file, with file extension .pks. The contents of this cab are the following:

Phone app wont work and tried reset/downgrade

I was exited and tried to use the cab sender batch program and I upgraded from 7720 to 7740 and then 8107 and now on 8107 when I press the phone icon I can't get it to open it will half open then close, anything I do wont work, and now I cant call anyone that isn't in my contacts. (can't access the dial pad)
What I have done:
1: Hard Reset the phone didnt work.
2: Try to use cab sender and downgrade to last working verison of 7740, but cab sender says " no applicable packages"
3: Battery pull
What else can I do?

Not familiar with cab sender hack. I assume this bypasses the need for zune. Zune does a backup that could be used to restore previous versions of the os. If you have done previous backups, you may want to consider the zune restore process, reverting to a previous is version. Then you can allow the normal update process to take place.
Good luck.
Actually that worked! Thanks, so if anyone else has this problem, what I did was restore with zune and then I just went from 7720 to 7740 with the cab sender because I knew that was the last working version.
DVP phone app error
can't seem to find a backup file before my 8107 update is there another way to roll back/ downgrade cab files or force update a different cab file?

[Q] how to update WP7 using the Cab Sender

Okay, I tried update WP7 through zune but it freezes my hd2 and makes me reflash WP7. I read that the only way to update was through the cab sender. I have downloaded all the necessary files to update, all I need to know now is how to work the Cab sender Cause i dont know how. Alright, so I got the cabs for the update, but Is there a certain boot process or something?

7.8 from Mango in one download and 10 steps

Everything you need from Mango (DVPs normally upgrade to Mango on their own) to 7.8 is there..
#1 - First be sure your phone has gone through the normal procedure to 7720 (Mango)
#2 - Then go here: https://dl.dropbox.com/u/15491148/Update - DVP.zip
Done.. and done..
This worked amazingly well - thanks for posting all the right info and files together in one easy place!
Thank you! It worked!!
DVP help
Attached is what i'm looking at is it supposed to say "ERROR: no update found"
Also how do you know why it update is finished? I ran all 7 cabs through the sender and nothing happened.
Currently on 8107
im on build 8107 will this still work?

OK.. First off remember to move the CABs in order to the folder th BAT file is in, don't move the BAT to the CAB folder.
This will work with any version post Mango.. Just start with the set of CABs you last ended with.
IE, if you have 8107, go to the folder after 8107 and use those CABs..till 7.8..
Other tips..
1) Make sure you have upgrade via Zune to Mango first
2) Make sure Zune is off
3) make sure you install the WP07 support tools before running the BAT file.
4) to ensure a clean install of all filess.. Hard reset the phone. Before installing all the CAB files.
Hope that helps.. Remember when all else fails read the directions.

OK..
> First off remember to move the CABs in order to the folder the BAT file is in
> Don't move the BAT to the CAB folder. (It won't find the program files it needs that way)
> You will know it done with each step, when your phone and the command line says Success! (This will come up each time you go through the Update procedure)
> Don't try to run the BAT file without moving the CABs into the correct folder (results it will not finding the files to update with)
> Don't try to run all the CABs at one time (From all the folders) also can cause problem
> DO copy ALL the files from the INDIVIDUAL folders for each run.. (Some updates required 1 file, some 2, some 3, etc.)
So remember :
Create folder and unzip all the files and folders into the directory (We will call it UPDATE and put it on the desktop for example)
Install WP7 Update Tool (See folder --> update tool - INSTALL FIRST)
Start by moving the files in CABS/7740 folder to the main UPDATE folder you created (the one with the BAT file in it) and run the bat.
In command windows hit <S>
Let phone go through the upgrade process
After successful upgrade, move the 7740 file(s) from main folder, and replace with CABs from the next folder (8107) in the order
Run the BAT again.
>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>..
Also, This will work with any version post Mango.. Just start with the set of CABs you last ended with.
IE, if you have 8107, go to the next folder after 8107 and use those CABs..till 7.8..

Yup, I upgraded my son's from 8107, just started by using the next higher numbered CABS folder. Thanks to the OP!
Just followed this on my unlocked AT&T DVP. Went from Mango to 7.8 in about 30 minutes total, with no issues during installation. Still testing the phone out o see if everything works, but so far so good.
Awesome stuff dude, thanks! Very easy to follow instructions that are noob safe.
Worked.
Thank You.
FWIW, I had success upgrading using this method from 8773, without resetting the device.
Didn't work for me!
I have DVP unlocked updated to Mango but this didn't work for me, Error is attached. This happened with every folder. I tried upto 3 ..

I already had the 8773 update, thats why I was getting error. I started from folder 8779 and it worked fine.
If you try to run BAT file as Run As administrator , you will also get different error related to update file not found.. so make sure just to double click to run bat file or run through command prompt!
Awesome
You are GOD in my eyes !! ;.)) - totally worked ! - i had a 7720. fw in my dvp, - i upgraded with these cabs , and voala - it's worked !!
=.))
Thanks a lot! Sprinkled your magic dust, said the magic spell and it worked!
Awesome utility!
A big thanks to cdgoin for writing this incredibly useful program!
Had a couple hiccups getting it to work for me...thought I'd post them for the benefit of others...
1: I was getting a 'Choice is not a recognized command' error message initially. Turns out I guess XP doesn't have choice.exe installed by default. Got a copy from Microsoft's Windows 98 resource kit and installed, only to have it tell me it didn't like one of the command switches called in the batch file. Went in with a text editor - Looked like the /N switch was OK but the other wasn't (/M?). Deleted that and was finally presented with the menu as described.
2: But then, pressing 's' results in long error message about 'Retrieving the COM class factory for component with CLSID blahblah failed .....error 8007007e'
Deduced it was trying to call an unregistered DLL. This may have something to do with my Zune installation being on a separate partition from my windows installation. Went to the directory I'd put the WP tools in and registered the Microsoft updater's DLL from the command prompt: "regsrv32 wm7update.dll".
Following this, all worked as expected!

Any one else having wifi connection issues after the update?
