[Q] Flashing to stock Android - Xperia Play General

Hello I'm new to Android and my friend is letting me borrow his spare Xperia play. One problem, he has an experimental os or something along those lines installed, and to get the full Android experience I want to use the stock OS. He said all I need to do is flash it back to the stock OS however I am a noob when it comes to Android and have no idea how to go about this. Please any help would be greatly apreciated, thanks.

It's actually me that let him borrow it, and it's an R800X. I regret to say that I will actually be too busy this weekend to help him, but I can provide you with details. It's an R800x, it's not activated on Verizon, and if I remember correctly it's running Version 23? of FreeXperia CM7. As you guessed, the bootloader is fully unlocked, and if something goes wrong I have the knowledge(mostly) on how to fix it. So, my XDA brethren, help this poor soul who has lost his way on iOS!

You also need to wait. Before you know it we are going to have roms flowing out our ears. I am working as hard as I can to learn how to make kickass roms so hopefully I can release something good soon
Actually, after doing all the above, I was kinda looking for other things to do I am loving the tethering though. Thought there would be a place for apps that are not in the market.
im having the same problem. i dont know what to do with my phone while waiting for everyne makes awesome custom roms. im just waiting to figure out how to get it fully optimized with everything thats already ready for it

Get a development environment setup and write some apps! Download the GSM Kernel and learn how to compile and tune it (use Teknologic's changelog as a guide perhaps) and prepare for the eventual release of the CDMA Kernel (or even the 2.0 Kernel...what? I can dream!)! It's fun to prepare for such things and test!
Thanks Much!

Chuckhriczko, please keep up your 'good' work!
I used your instructions for rooting my hero, a little confusing but helped me to better understand linux procedures.
jjjjayd13,
Lets try to get Google maps with nav on the hero. They got it working in the Dream forum with some directions. Let me get my backup ready......
Where can i find more themes? I did the clear one and its ok, but not much to it. Also what is so special about modaco rom other than u can save apps to sd
go try out droid explorer and desktop sms...you can get desktop sms stand alone, or it comes as part of droid explorer...both took about 5 seconds to get working and work perfectly.
This is the thread I started about it

if you don't have the market, you probably forgot to/need to re-flash the google apps zip.
aside from that...you should be hanging out here -> Evo Forum
Start by looking at the [noob guide] and these FAQs.
Any other problems/questions search around in the Evo Q&A or General sub-topics and you should find what you need

I have the BlueAnt S4 and it cannot voice dial, says it needs Andriod 2.2 . Looks like the Hero will not get that from Sprint/Google, so will a rooted phone with 2.2 be able to make blutooth voice dial ? Thanks, Ted O.
Yeah a rooted 2.2 should work just fine with ur headset. I don't see why your headset isn't working fine now to be honest.
sent from my hero aosp2.2 cause aospcm7 2.3 was not as fast or stable for me.

Need some help with an Andoird build for my dad.

Hi
First off all I want to say: I can probably find everything here in the forum but I'll spend hours and hours reading and most off the time I'll read useless info that I don't need so if you have the knowledge and it just takes 5 minutes to share it please help me out I'll be thankful.
I myself have a HTC legend and have read LOTS off posts before finally rooting and flashing custom roms. Now my dad has asked me if I could help him to get android on his HD2.
He needs to be able to sync his agenda with outlook (for work (Calendar and contacts) I read something about HTC sync should be working on newer kernels is it included in some builds then?), and have a stable build (its not a ROM if I'm correct?) one that he could use for daily use. Don't need anything too special (not even root but its not a problem if it does have root access)
So I've started reading around in the development section and from what I read I don't need to root or flash anything, just extract a zip to the SD and name it Android. Is that correct? (then why do you have special android roms?)
So is there someone who can link me to a good stable (no OC kernels and stuff please) Android Build and tell me if there are known bugs with HD2 builds that don't get mentioned in those threats because they are known as general knowledge.
Thanks in advance
If I could ever help you back with HTC legend problem or something I'll gladly do it for you.
grts
Jonas (sorry for the pour English it's not my main language)
I'm reading topics and If I find answers I'll update this but please if you have the knowledge to help me in a few minutes PLEASE do so.
Never mind found this post: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=782930
and solved most of my questions looks like its not as fully operating as I thought :s.
So It's not just as easy as unzipping and renaming that would have been too easy.
It isn't very complicated to run android on the HD2. I don't know what feature you suspect isn't working that scared you from attempting. Every feature I could want is working. You also don't need to sacrifice windows mobile if you try android. Give it a shot and post again if you have trouble.
Problem is that I need to root and flash other wm Rom if I want everything to work as it should. Or isn't that really necessary? I'll just try a build and see what it does. Thx for th reply

if you have to hspl your hd2 depends on your stock radio rom version. it should be a newer one like 2.10 or 2.12 to avoid most issues with android. flashing another winmo rom is only necessary if you have robot voice and/or faster playback of music (just to mention 2 problems)... you don't have anything to loose if you try android from stock hd2. if it's not working fine, you may think of flashing a new radio and/or rom!
So if I unzip the file I can dowload here put it into android folder in the root of my SD, I'm good to go? What about that kernel do I need to flash it??
if he uses it for work then i'd suggest laying off android for now
he could still use the WM? It's just like a program no? So by just removing the folder it would be back to normal?

You basically reboot the phone and it goes back to wmo. Its almost like running a live linux cd...
When you run HaRet Android takes over the phone. When you reboot it will come back to WinMo. Then you run HaRet again and you back in Android. And so on. WinMo 'lives' on the phone, Android on sd.
So the kernel they are talking about is a fake kernel? (not flashed to the actual ROM)
So if anything goes wrong at first boot with the android I can just pull out the battery without bricking the phone?

Its not a fake kernel...it is real but it resides on the sd card so your original wmo stuff will still be there in case you ever need to use wmo again.

You s should start your own thread. There are many different unlock so specify which one you're after, sim unlock? This section is only for android so if you need help on something else, post it in the hd2 general section, not here. Unless it is android related, you won't find help here.
Ok so if I install this:

I can just remove the file on the SD when it doesn't work like we want it too and everything will be back to normal right?
You are correct.
If it doesnt work for you just erase the android folder. I would recommend flashing hard spl, and changing your radio to 2.12.50.02_2. Then load the hyperdroid 1.6 rom. You will have the best luck with that probably without having to change anything in winmo.

I'd recommend using a spare SD card. When you run Android it creates a ton of folders on it, so it's easier to have a dedicated one than to try and delete everything later (if he decides not to stick with Android).
Also, I read through the thread and couldn't see anywhere... did you tell us what radio is on the HD2? It needs to be (I believe) 2.08 or higher, and it's VERY recommended to have a 2.x.50 and not a 2.x.51 radio.
If you flash a 2.x.51 radio on a t-mobile US HD2 you will brick it. Try flashing radio 2.12.50.02_2

Yeah dno the radio version or the bootloader version.
Do i need root to see that?? Is it just booting while pressing volume down to get the bootloader and the info I need?
Also I read that the HyperDroidV1.6 is overclocked and undervolted and I drather not do that. Just want it as stable as can be. (I know my overclocked legend is stable but if he has a really crappy processor,..)
BTW: I know what overclocking does but what's good about undervolting?? better batterylife?
I think I'll just give this a try this weekend (when my dad (and his phone xD)are home)

I'm assuming undervolting is for better battery life, but have never bothered with it myself. Just have a read of the most popular Android builds to see which you think will work for you. I can recommend FroyoStone Sense v3.1, but I would because that's what I use!
It's so easy to try the different builds that it's no big deal if you play with one and don't like it, so don't be shy - give em all a go if that's what it takes!
Edit: Just noticed your edit from when I was posting. lol

If you want to update to ics, you can just get a ftf of the firmware and flash it.

Hi mate, a few months ago I was in the same boat. I build PCs, understand basic programming, etc etc but it's a whole new world these android phones! Haha very humbling to go from the guy everyone asks for answers
To the guy who has nothing but questions. Anyway point is I can relate.
When im at my pc a bit later I'll gather up all my bookmarks and links and dump em here for you! 99% of what you need is buried here in xda land so in the mean time... Start reading! Haha

if you've rooted your phone I'd recommend "sysTune" from the store - it's an easy way to change the running priorities in that you simply afford each process a number between -20 and +19 - the processes with the lowest numerical settings are given the highest priority and vice versa - it's an easy way to keep the speed right where you want it, and it's great for a really smooth launcher

Just with reference to this question, when I found out that ICS was available for my phone I just relocked my bootloader and upgraded via PC companion. However, my suspicions were confirmed from first boot into ICS, all the custom roms I had been using were much better!
But I thought you should know its very possible to relock your bootloader, so you might as well try a few custom roms while you wait for ICS.
Ive had my arc for about 6 months now and I have tried all the kernels and roms I could find, I reached the conclusion that Arconium ICS v4 Get Arconium ICS V4 here was the best for me. Im currently using Arcknight RC3 Get Arcknight Kernel here as my kernel but I have heard good things about using the stock kernel with CWM.
If your going to delve into the world of custom roms and kernels send me a PM and I would be happy to help with the processes you will need to go through.
The way I see it, there is no point in us both doing the 6 months of experimentation when I easily share what I've learnt with you

List of things to do after buying a new Android Tablet

List of things to do after buying a new Android Tablet
I am expecting my GT-N8000 next week and I want to start on the right footing with my new device.
It could be a list of do this and do that....step by step in order of precedence.
ex:
1. Disable UAC on Windows
2. Install Samsung Kies software on PC
3. Backup current/original Bootloader and save it on your PC for fallback purposes
4. Backup current/original ROM and save it on your PC for fallback purposes
5. Copy CWM or whatever...on your SD Card.

[Q&A] [ROM][G900V][NI2]EXTREME SYNDICATE v2.1! READY NOW!

Q&A for [ROM][G900V][NI2]EXTREME SYNDICATE v2.1! READY NOW!
Some developers prefer that questions remain separate from their main development thread to help keep things organized. Placing your question within this thread will increase its chances of being answered by a member of the community or by the developer. Thanks for understanding and for helping to keep XDA neat and tidy!
Hi all. Is 2.1 using Android 4.4.4? Why isn't it using NE9? (Diff between that and NI2?) Are there any known bugs to this release? If so, could we expect a 2.5 release semi-soon? I'm scared to flash due to other people's troubles so far but have been eagerly waiting an update! This has been a near-perfect ROM for me who likes minimal and stripped down. Making it even more stripped down starts to make me worry though. Haven't any experience with mods other than viper4android. Is that HX camera mod better than the included camera in ExtremeSyndicate 1.5?
Sorry for newb post.
there isnt much dif in ni2.. just a newer version.. it is more debloated but you dont really need to mod anything.. just simply install/push what you want to the phone

I got the message from other post, so I need to flash a keyboard apk (Android L keyboard is fine) after I install the ROM?

That is correct. Find a Android keyboard apk and place it in internal storage or on sdcard. After you have flashed the ROM use the "My Files" app included in the ROM to install the keyboard apk. That is how I understand the process. I'm not sure, but trying to install the "L" keyboard might not be a simple as installing an apk. I think, but not sure, there are some supporting files that you need for the "L" keyboard to properly function. A simple, no frills keyboard may be a better option until you're up and running and then try installing the "L" keyboard or other keyboard from the play store.

yea I got it installed, yet as someone said earlier. I installed google calendar and it does not sync for some reason. Hopefully can find out why. Also any chance of the black theme coming back?

Good to hear. I'm not sure about the dark theme, we'll have to ask elliwigy. As far as Google Calendar not syncing, elliwigy removed more "stuff" for this build, he may have eliminated a file needed for sync.

I refuse to flash without the black & white theme!!! So good!!! Can't live with Samsung theme. Thanks for all your hard work on this ROM though Elliwigy!! I'll stick with 1.5 until this is updated!

Gotta stick to your guns man! Ignore the special requests that fall out of your scope of support and if they don't like it, then oh well. Good to see you're still around :good:

+1 on what BigBot96 said. Your ROM is exactly what I had been wanting for years. A lean, fast, great battery ROM that provided all the basic functions of a smartphone without all the BS bells and whistles. No matter what you do, there will always be someone who wants something different than what YOU want. Let potential users of your ROM know up front what you offer and if that doesn't "float their boat" they can either not flash your ROM or they can add what they want. Let them know up front that you don't offer or support a "buffet line of options". They can like it or, well, leave it and go flash something else.
I miss this rom! For all my devices, with all the roms I tried, this was my favorite. If I could build a rom (which I can't), I would have built something almost identical to this one. You stated you stopped developing because you were busy, tired of trying to debloat more and tired of getting flamed. I accept your stopping as version 1 was to me perfection, and I agree, it would have been so hard to improve upon it.
I tried a couple of other roms. While good, they were not nearly as perfect as this one. I think I'll go back to version 1 to see if I can figure out what is missing from version 2. Then it's back to glory for me. Thanks for all your hard work. I've been busy traveling that I didn't take the time to tell you thanks man. Happy holidays. If you build another rom, can you post a notice here. All the best.
version 2.1 was updated to ni2 but before i could theme n work out some kinks i shut it down.. i was working on the opposite but ran into some issues with 5.0 apks not working.. I will be posting a new rom as soon as we get 5.0! i already have a working list of what to debloat (based on disecting the g900f build) so you will see me again! In the meantime, I have been learning to code since ultimately I want to create apks for various things

I never did understand why people expected stuff to be added back into a ROM when it's main purpose was to be "lighter" with each update makes no sense to me lol. Anyway, I'm running V1 and it's simply awesome! I just rooted and installed V1 on my wife's phone today (she actually ASKED me to root it lmao, I about fell over) but I would really like to have the flashlight toggle that appears to be included in V1.5. Is there an easy way to get the flashlight toggle? Is there a link somewhere for V1.5 (I haven't found one yet)? Can I dirty flash it over V1?

Nevermind, I found the older builds in your ROM thread. Thanks for all you do! I'd rather use an iPh0ne than a stock Veriz0n S5. Not really, but close lol.
I will be updating rom to L hopefully by end of tonight!
