Since I bought my htc desire z unlocked I wanted opinions before I mess ith it since I have no warrenty through my provider. After I updated to 2.3 my htc sense kept restarting. And that was a while ago now my entire phone keeps freezing then reboot along with the sense issue. Htc says I need to factory reset it,but I'm worried that will relock my phone and I can't afford to pay to have it unlocked again. I don't wanna risk flashing a new rom,I have done it before but this desire z is my favorite phone I've ever had. Suggestions plz?
A factory reset should not remove your root and not to mention there are very detailed guides here that will help you root your phone without having to pay for anything. Browse around the forum abit.

"Factory reset" = wipe data and cache..have to do that anytime you change roms so no it doesn't affect root or unlock. How did you install 2.3? When your phone is rooted the ota upgrade doesn't work

Yes Its just simunlocked, So are you sure?
100 % sure doing a factory reset will not relock your phone, it only wipes all personal data, absolutely nothing to worry about mate
Just in case I end up having to send it in for repairs or replacement does anyone know where I can get find the cheapest most reliable place to get the unlock code?

The easiest way to unlock it is to root it using gfree. Besides, once you root, trust me, you will never go back to stock. It really does make the phone much better.

If I remember correctly you can't. You need to be fully rooted meaning s-off. Basically s-off means radio sercurity off, among other things turned off. If you try to flash anything through clocklworkmod recovery without s-off,either nothing will happen or your phone will be bricked an you will have to buy a complete new phone. Best thing to do is fully root(s-off). If you need help rooting your phone, send me a pm,an ill help you out.

You're right that you must be rooted to flash in recovery, but you do not flash radios in recovery. They are flashed in the bootloader, and I'm not sure root access is required to flash a PD15IMG.zip file in the bootloader. I'm leaning towards root not being required, but I don't know for sure. Might as well go ahead and try it. The worst that could happen is you get the "access denied" message and the installation aborts.
I was thinking that about the radio, I just flashed my first one. After having my phone rooted for 6months. Only reason why I said root the phone. Is to make sure he has full control over the phone. An it takes some risks out, some but not all.

Yea, I was about to say you don't use cwm to flash a new radio but you got it. : P lol

Radios can be flashed in bootloader - otherwise stock firmware updates wouldn't be able to upgrade radios - but they most probably need to be signed to be flashed by S-ON bootloader. In that case, the answer to the OP would be "no".

What method of root did you use? If you used the gfree method, then yes, it's SIMUNLOCKED. if not, the best way to unlock is to call tmobile and ask them for the unlock code.

Don't worry bricking your phone is unlikely unless you do something silly and don't follow the guides correctly.
This is the best place to start, you'll find everything you need in this one thread.

Welcome to the section. Check out the guides for rooting and installing custom roms on your phone. There isn't really a big chance of getting your phone bricked. Once you root it, you'll feel alot safer because the worst thing that can happen is a bootloop. (Which can be repaired!)

Try it with and without the phone plugged in. I think you'll probably have to have it plugged in.

okay i did all that now its stuck on the cyanogen loading screen what can i do
You've done the hard part don't worry its not broken. It should take around 5-10 minutes for first boot anyway so if its only been a minute or two and the rhythm of the boot logo is still turning smoothly and not pausing or restarting just leave it a little longer but if the logo freezes and restarts over and over this is called a bootloop. Easily fixed by rebooting into recovery again then select the wipe menu and wipe dalvik cache, cache and data then install your cm7 zip again. Everything should work then.
Sent from my HTC Wildfire using xda premium
hmm i may have ruined it then for i just re did the installing of RUU_Buzz_HTC_WWE_1.14.405.2_R_Radio_13.45.55.24_3.35.15.31_release_130814
then left it at that for it worked then lol, is there anything i can do to get it actually done from there
You might need to run revolutionary againcan you still get to clockwork recovery?

yes i can still get to clockwork recovery by rebooting into hboot and going through recovery, ive also got the super user app in my apps
Just check in hboot that you are s-off and as you can still get recovery you're good to go, remember to wipe dalvik cache, cache and data when changing roms, if its an update you might get away with not wiping data sometimes. You'll get the hang of it soon enough. Before you flash cm7 again just run the backup in cwm then if it goes wrong again you can just restore.

If your trying to root your phone you have to use HTCdev.com to unlock your bootloader then follow captain throwbacks guide to get s-off after unlocking the bootloader http://themikmik.com/showthread.php...-18-HBOOT-with-HTCDev-com-No-More-Watermark!-)

Well from what has been said, there's a work around to the HTC unlock which will allow downgrading of the bootloader. Once this happens you are good to go. I honestly don't think HTC is gunna report every phone that has been unlocked, through thier unlocker, to Sprint.
Building on the Framework of my other apps, I present to you my easy, quick and efficient Rooting solution for ANY HTC Device.

As long as the exploit has not been patched by HTC then it will work otherwise you need to dev-unlock and flash insecure boot.img then run HTC Quick Root.

The Incredible 4G is locked up tight. We can't get root via any exploit, and dev unlock was only available for a short time after release, then was removed. Nobody can get s-off, either. I bought mine thinking dev unlock still worked, then found out that it was revoked the very next day. Needless to say we need help rooting.
Thanks for the effort, though. If you have any ideas on the Incredible 4G, please share on the threads over there. We really need help.

I share your pain Captain. Stuck with the Inc4G myself with no s-off. Got it locked down tight, really missing my shift right about now
Doesn't work for the latest OTA of Evo Shift 4G. =/
There is a chance I might have done something wrong, but I have continuously tried different ways so I highly doubt it.
