unless you're confident enough to ruin your device, no. things you need are:
-a BIOS
-a Tablet (not a galaxy phone)
-an ARM chipset
-a fat32/NTFS HDD Partition
-16 GB of HDD (average droid tablet only have 16gb. so why install?)
-and, the ability to choose boot location on booting up
androids do not have all of the above except the ARM thing. so no.
anyways it's still a dev preview not a fully-functional desktop/tablet OS. so don't treat it as such and thank me. even if it's not helping you (ungrateful bastard)

I realize you probably figured it out, but for anyone else that might be wondering if this works, it does. That's how I originally did it, but then I read you can download a program that uses your cd-rom as a USB drive of sorts for the ISO file and I did it that way for my old laptop. I forgot what it was called, but I found it by googling how to install the new developer's build.

Anyone else having trouble mounting their Epic to the Mac running Lion? I just recently upgraded and am no longer to connect. Wondering if its just me.
Same here. Cannot make any connection after upgrade to Lion with epic 4g.
Is lion the new update that just came out. What version is it?

Oh great...I haven't tried this yet, but I upgraded to OS X Lion, so most likely it won't work for me...

Nah, you have to buy the new OS on the Mac App Store for $30. Great deal in my opinion compared to Windows 7 Prices ($200+ jeezus!)
@Korey, what's 10.7.2? Isn't it the dev release of the new update or something?

I'll start by saying I've been Snow Leopard as long as I've had the Epic.
You trying to connect through a Cinema Display? When I connect my Epic to the monitor (24 inch with 3 usb ports) it never mounts, but if I connect it straight to the MacPro it does. Never been able to figure that one out, but I've found that to be the case. Real PITA because all of the USB ports on the MacPro and both Cinema Displays are used - although one of the ports on the display is used on a handy charging cable for the phone.
That said I've never had trouble mounting on Windows, straight to my PC or through a hub.
I think it's just a problem between Macs and our phone.
Sidenote - sometimes when I connect my Epic to the Cinema Display it causes a freak out and the Mac says a device was trying to draw too much current so it disconnects the hub inside the Cinema display which disconnects all connected peripherals, the webcam, and the speakers until I disconnect the screen's USB cable from the back of the tower and reconnect. Anyone have a clue how to prevent this?
I got Win7 for $90. Where are you shopping?

I don't mean an upgrade. I mean the full thing. Yeah some are cheaper, but I mean ones like W7 Ultimate is very pricey

Glad to hear it's not just happening to me. Hoping Apple pushes out an update.
If anyone figures out how to mount their phone please reply in this thread.
Thx!
You guys had any luck getting this working? I have the same issue ... Running Cyanogenmod 7 on my HTC Desire.
Same here as well. although. I noticed the my Mac Book pro that gave with 10.7 doesn't read my epic as a mass storage device. But when I plug it into a friends mac book pro that was upgraded from 10.6 to 10.7 detects mass storage just fine.
I downloaded, and installed a update for Kies, but that didn't seem to do anything either ( i have rebooted yet, will up date this post if it works after a reboot.).
If anyone figures this out please update this thread.
Fix
Shutdown you Mac, boot into safe mode. Press and hold shift key after the chime when you power on your mac. You will know that you're in safe mode because only programs that came with Lion will boot. Fully boot into Lion, then restart back into regular mode. Connect your phone, turn on USB mass storage mode. Should be working now. Apparently the issue has to do with corrupt driver cache.
$30 every year vs. $250 every 5 years, both companies are about the same just one releases quicker and gets ya for small chunks when your not looking

iTunes

I'm sorry if this has been asked, but I've checked as much as I could. But does iTunes work on Windows 8? That's the second most used program by me other than chrome, so its kinda important. Thanks in advance

Are you currently running Windows 7? You can just install Windows 8 on another partition and browse the partition with music in Windows Explorer. If you're upgrading (not recommended), then you can just upgrade and keep everything intact.
itunes works great but he can't find my brother's iphone --'
i said him "android is better" but he didn't listen to me...
so?? you've got the same problem?
Lol I'm glad I downloaded the google music beta
It uploaded my entire itunes library before I tried out windows 8 and it works beautifully streaming from the cloud.
That was one of the things stopping me from trying it out was that I would've had no music but now all is well

Using phone an external boot device?

Hey so I saw that they made a mod where you can jailbreak a ps3 through flashing the firmware on the phone or something ( I don't know it didn't work in the atrix) but my windows somehow locked my hard drive and I need command prompt to unlock. I was wondering is it possible to somehow put a live Ubuntu disc or a windows ISO( anything that's bootable) on my phone and bring my laprop back to life? I'm not able to burn any CD's right now. So yeah I think it'd be pretty cool if this is/can be possible. Or maybe some kind of webtop through usb that's able to boot off a laptop. I don't know. These are just idea that pop into my head. Not sure iftheyre possible CD

Windows 8

I tried to install the Samsung drivers under windows 8 without success. I ended up installing it on a virtual windowsXP machine running under VirtualBox on the win8 machine and it works fine.
I put the phone in download mode and fired up Odin and it recognize the phone.
been on 8 primarily since the dev preview, never had issues. I use the google USB drivers since I'm on ics.

I'm still on Windows XP haha, I meant to upgrade to Win 7 but never did since I can't afford to upgrade my motherboard/cpu/ram/etc. Windows 8 looks promising... but I don't really know how I feel about it looking/feeling like a mobile platform rather than a more 'traditional' desktop feel. Do they let you change it to look like traditional Windows or not?

I tried to install the sdk but it's complaining that it can't find java.exe or the java sdk even though it's installed and jave.exe is right where it says it can't find it. Did you run into anything like that?
EDIT: never mind. I was installing the 64 bit version. the sdk wants to see the 32 bit version.

Windows 8 on NC?

Just thought it would be interesting. Is it possible to create a bootable windows 8 micro-sd card? Just wondering.

Windows 8 running on the NC is not going to happen. :crying:
But check out this video by Tinkernut on youtube. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=v5klJrX9ubc
He demonstrates how to use Splashtop streamer running on your NC (or any supported android/ios device) to connect to a Windows 8 PC (swiping is supported).
He has it running on a NC (or Nook Tablet, I can't tell) at around 1:50 in video.
I have not tried this myself, but it appears that this would at least allow you to experience Windows 8 on your NC. :highfive:
It pains me to say that your probably correct. I am however, going to try to prove you wrong. (Yeah, I'm that dedicated) BTW great video, but I want to use it without WiFi too. So that won't work.

Possible? Sure -- if you're Microsoft or have a MS Windows source code license. Otherwise, you can pretty much forget about it.
Pretty much is the keyword my friend.

Thanks for that. Really interesting to see Windows 8 on my NC, even if it is just a remote desktop. Hoping to freak out a few friends with it, until they catch on.
