Anyone notice 3g bandwidth limiting ? - Fascinate General

I just moved. And now my only internet is my phone. This is my first month going over 2gb. My usage so far is like 3GB and change.. Now it seems when making large downloads my 3g will flicker between blue and grey as if its downloading then resting then downloading again. And I have not had a tether speed above 300 Kb/s in a week. I was getting 700Kb/s steady.. Also notice that sometimes 3g will now turn off completely then turn back on, which breaks my tether forcing me to restart it. Is Verizon declaring war on me?

They are throttling your bandwidth because you're over your 2 GB limit.

they might know you're tethering because i was at 4+ GBs of data used, and i don't tether. and i wasn't throttled at all.

I can't believe you cab get those kinds of speeds, I rarely get above 150Kb/s dl. No matter what radio it's always like that...

it depends on of what your looking at is being measured in bits or bytes. im talking kilobits.. If you tether and use a program like utorrent to download something it will be measured in kilabytes which 150 kilobytes is fast for 3g

Do u use tethering a lot? I hardly use tethering and try to use wifi whenever I can but I still usually wind up with about 2gb of data each month. I figure if I didnt use wifi I would be up to about 5-6

Just don't change your plan... It is regulated that they have to Grandfather plans that will in turn be less of a service to the customers. If you don't change your plan, they can't change your data.

@SysAdmin-x. I stream lots of videos and radio when I'm out of the house so I can't use wifi. I use tether sometimes. Also I should be using wifi when I'm at home but I always forget about it lol.

You never get overage charges from Verizon? I have heard that over 5GB that they start throttling back, and supposedly would charge people.
Sys... Never been charged extra... If I ever do ill raise cain because I bought an UNLIMITED plan, they do throttle which was noticeable on stock, but the apex untether patch really does seem to work quite well.

I've never been charged extra either. But they do throttle you but I've accually never noticed it.

I've never been charged for overage either. I've had my data plan for a few years now so I guess I'm grandfathered in. I have noticed ever since iPhone 4 came out on Verizon the 3g has been awfully slow. I used to get under 100ms ping with about 2 megabit download speeds. Now the pings are over 500 Ms and speeds arent even hitting 1megabit. Pretty unacceptable considering how much we pay for these devices and data plans. They need to get their **** together.

do you have the link to Liberty 1.5?

I think they can but they chose to just throttle your internet so they don't lose buisness

I tested my 3g I get around 850Kbits/s download and about 500Kbits/s upload. Is this a good speed?

Just did a 3g speed test and it's getting better. I use the speedtest.net app. Ping - 379 Ms down - 1.31 mbps up - .35 mbps. So it's better but still nowhere near the 3g speeds we pay for. I'm in Montana on Verizon. I think they throttled everyone up here so their network would handle the new load from the iPhone 4.

I thought they started throttling at 10GB ??
They throttle at 5gb on older data plans and 2gb on newer ones. Someone forgot to flip a switch lol

Throttling?

My speeds used to be through the roof on AT&T(5+ Mbps down and 3+ Mbps up)(compared to what it used to be less than 3 down and less than one up), now it has crashed to almost nothing.(.80 down and 1 up
How can i telll if im being throttled?

everyone is getting rid of unlimited data plans, cept sprint, you can thank the iPhone for that.
But im on a 2gb plan not unlimited

did you check at peak times? I get 1mbps normally then 5 mbps at non peak times.

Super slow 3g stock.

I noticed recently my net was extremely slow. I ran a few tests and never get above 600kbps. When I was on cm7 i got up to 3mbps. Anything I can do?

Where are you from?
I had to use DEFY BASEBAND SWITCHER to get my 3G working.
Dont use it if you have 3G, but this must cause of your carrier. (I think)

i agree with jouse its probably your carrier, i did get an increase in speed but it was never that low, it was like between .8 and 1.5 mbps stock to atleast 2.5 mbps cm7 though I don't think its an issue of not having 3G cuz EDGE doesn't go that fast
It used to be much faster. its weird Going back to cm7 so i'll get the speed back anyway. Thanks guys.

I using 2 sim cards from Claro Dominicana, I pay around US$ 0.64 for 24 hours of internet. Very CHEAP!!
With one of the sim cards I use, I just get 256kbps, I dont know why its limited like that... the other one gets all 3G speed (up to 6 mbps at nights) , both of them are 3G and I dont why that happens.
Check if your carrier limits the usage of the 3G speed.

How mobile network data speeds work ?anyway to cheat it ?

In the morning i get 10mb + pretty constant
in the evenings i do one speed test around a 1mb i could do one 10 minutes later bit later 2mb then 15 minutes later 10mb
anyway to get the speed to stay 10mb do i connect to a different node or something every time or is the speed just loads balanced between loads of nodes. Essentially want to know if there is any way to trick the network so i can get the 10mb constantly in the evenings?
This is three mobile uk
no u cannot
Think of it like dsl. the more people the slower it goes.

There's a whole thread to Three. I think they are the exception with their filtering. Most US carriers just have overloaded towers in big cities so you don't get good speeds (except T-Mobile, and maybe Sprint in some areas) usually. Also they may do QoS so the postpaid customers get more priority then the prepaid and the prepaid is over the MVNOs.
This really sucks :banghead::banghead::banghead::banghead::banghead::banghead::banghead::banghead::banghead::banghead::banghead:

Around what they advertised as realistic speeds of 10mb on dc-hsdpa. But to be honest would be happy with a steady 3-4mb. Don't think that is unrealistic surely?

LOL - that was sarcasm; not a real question. Unlimited data? Sure but we'll throttle the hell out of you if you use too much. Yep I am a true cynic when it comes to the carriers. They will always have fine print and an excuse.
