I'm pretty sure i'm the one who screwed up my phone. I need someone to clarify that it was my stupid mistake. I was running the 4EXT recovery and i'm pretty sure that by deleting the recovery files by mistake sent my phone into boot loops i guess? Or could it have been because the phone i think was one with the bad chip? I have the SEM... chip now, the good chip , right? How likely is it that my phone could shut down by rooting? Without that mistake?

You know what, that recovery looks really cool. But, thing looks super complex to me. It has to many things going on. It spells disaster in my opinion. Specially for noobs.
Your problem should be fixable though. The ext4 recovery should replace cwm recovery. You probably entered an option you weren't supposed to enter.
My advice to you is, download a stable rom and transfer it to your sd via pc and flash. Hopefuly that will get you out of bootloop.
I don't believe is a bad chip. If it was, your device would've turn off and never turned back on.

yes, SEM04G is the good chip, M4G2DE is the bad one.

I have an HTC Incredible - Does anyone know if there's a way to lock clockwork recovery down so there's a more secure way to prevent unauthorized access to my recovery screen?
Just a general wondering. I'd like to prevent just anyone from holding volume down and power button, and then going into custom recovery and wiping my SD card.
Dont let other people play with ur phone...lol sorry had to.

If they physically have your phone, they can just pop out the SD card. I really don't understand your concern.

They could do a data wipe or brick his phone doing something stupid.
They could also delete my rom backups - I keep these backed up on an iscsi on my local network, however you never know. I'm just being paranoid!

Sure, but he specifically said he was worried about them wiping his SD card.
Just wondering if anyone who's flashing and rooting could please do a backup and upload it somewhere. Myself and a couple others have accidentally partitioned our internal SD incorrectly causing a catastrophic touch screen issue.
I'm hoping it'll have the properly partitioned SD storage because I'm having difficulty doing it manually. If someone could upload this it'd be hugely appreciated!!!
BUMP!!!
Can anyone please provide me with a Nandroid backup using Tenfar's recovery??? I can throw some money once I get my Paypal sorted out. I'm desperate, fellas!
Can someone please help? I'd like to try anything I can to get my phone working this weekend. It's been an entire week without my Atrix.

Im relatively new to android...is this backup you are speaking about a TB backup. Or what method of backup are you looking for?
Sent from my MB860 using Tapatalk
You actually need to be rooted and have Tenfar's custom Recovery menu. In there it has an option to do a Backup.
If you're new it may be too engaging but I appreciate the offer nonetheless. If you could help, it'd be great. If it's too much trouble, I thank you anyway!
yeah what does the nandroid backup...back.. up? the apps?
What I'm HOPING and PRAYING for is that it'll also copy something in the internal SD which was partitioned due to my stupidity. dev/block/mmcblk0p18 is what that is in particular.
I tried manually formatting and partitioning it but I'm unable to do so. Fastboot freezes and Early USB Enumeration goes by so quickly I can't run the commands that I need through ADB. And I don't even know if that'll work because I made a script that executes the commands and I get weird errors. I'm far from an expert and monkeyed around too deeply where I shouldn't have.
About 4-5 others are reporting the same problem. The ****ty thing is that I'm in Canada and it'd be a huge pain to send it to Motorola. They're giving me a lot of grief and I've had to put up a big fight. Waiting to see if they'll send an RMA because I may need to send it in. When I get it back I might sell it and buy a Bell Atrix because I live in Canada and if something bad happens, it'll be easier to send to Bell or Motorola Canada.
from what i understand you have to have an unlocked bootloader to backup or restore using a nandroid backub
Maybe I'm using the wrong terminology then.. just need a backup from Tenfar's customer Recovery. I don't even know if it'll work but I'm out of ideas.
I'm at least thankful that the Xperia X10's bootloader was cracked. I forgot to send a replacement back to Rogers and I phoned them asking if I could use it for now. They thankfully said yes because they forgot to charge me for it lol... it's got some really great ROMs, but looking at this beautiful, mangled Atrix makes baby Jesus cry!
i can do that but im wondering why you dont try SBF file?? should work better than Backup

i was just wondering the same thing... it also be more stable as nandroid restore are not so good on some phones and im guessing especially on a locked bootloader one.
also a nandroid backup would also restore some else's settings and information on your device....

I've already tried the SBF files but it doesn't do anything to the internal SD. I need an actual backup because the user settings are exactly what I'm looking for. Normally you'd want a fresh flash from stock but I hope you now understand why I'm asking this constantly.
Flashing to stock was naturally my first step. Unfortunately it had failed. About 5 others reporting the same problem.

What maybe you could do is? go into tenfars cwm recovery go to mounts and storage and format the internal sdcard and system and boot and data. This is safe as far as I know and me and tenfar have both done this.I literally formatted every single thing in the option menu. just to see if I could do it. Which was stupid but I was curious and used to do that before I installed new roms on my old backflip all the time! Also might wanna do a factory reset through cwm and clear dalvik cahe as well for good measure. Now after you format all that. reboot system which will send you in a boot loop/wont boot past first screen. Pull the battery and unplug usb cable from charger. Then reboot and enter rsdlite mode by holding volume up and the power button. Now just flash your 4.1.26 sbf file through rsdlite 5.0
As long as you flash back to retail 4.1.26 afterwords using rsdlite 5.0 that should put everything right! As I have done this and my phone is working normal.
I better put one of them warnings here though anyway lol

perhaps i highly recommend if someone do this, create a new account of gmail and flash a sbf file since the OP will have all sensitive data as email, contacts and so on as previous post say

I was not aware of this and was so focused on correcting the challenge that this was a complete oversight. On second thought, I don't want to compromise anyone's security.
I had in mind a fresh backup, preferably for AT&T's 1.2.6 SBF but it's a bit of trouble and a lot of space. I retract my request due to the amount of work involved and that I don't want to compromise anyone's security in case they don't clear their user details, etc.
Thanks for pointing that out, knigitz. I think ADB access in the Recovery is our best bet. Crossing my fingers.

The good chip is harder to brick, but still VERY possible.
When you root it just take your time.
-When you wipe the phone do it from the recovery image
-when you need to fix permissions do it from the recovery image
-flash the recovery image via ADB
-flash the OS via the recovery
-flash the g/apps via recovery (if needed)
just basically don't use a 3rd party app to do what you need to do in recovery and you should be okay.
Clockworkmod recovery, right? Or is that the third party app you metioned?

There is nothing wrong with the Clockwork Recovery image. It's actually the one that i use. I know there is another on in the Dev section that alot of people are liking. I would just veer away from the App that you can download in the market. It seems like a lot of people have connections between that and their eMMC chips failing. I'm not saying it's koush's fault, it's so popular because the app is good. Just not on our devices.
So clockworkmod is fine? I appreciate you're help. You had said it causes some problems on this type of phone, what kind? Is another recovery `better `?

i have no problem with the Clockwork Recovery Image.
i have a problem with the Clockwork ROM Manager. It seems as if that is linked to failing chips.
I'm still pretty new, could you explain a little further? How does software ruin a chip? Is it by what the program does?

The program runs a series of scripts that tells the phone what to do. If those scripts don't mount firmware, software, hardware properly to each other items might not be written correctly.
hm. So the developer writes a multi device program? I've rooted by using the downgrade post than the gfree method. In you're first post you had the procedure step by step-if you have some time could you explain further?

The developer in part doesn't right different programs since the phones handle the scripts pretty much in the same fashion. The framework is pretty much the same. the recovery images are different. So those are written differently. But since our eMMC chip is buggy we need to make sure we mount them correctly. Thus just booting into recovery v. using the application.
Download your OS of choice
push the OS to your SDcard , or copy and paste
Verify the MD5SUM of the download
boot into recovery
do a nandroid backup
wipe your handset / factory restore
flash the OS
Flash the g/apps as needed
reboot system.
I just recently rooting my mytouch 4g and everything was working great, i had made a backup of my files using my recovery root before i was rooted. I re installed the app to my phone and tried recovery its was all working great but, it was installing my apps until it hit a game where the phone crashed and i was unable to do anything but take out the battery. I tried restarting and i got 3 androids skating. I got into hboot and tried recovery mode, and factory reset, neither worked. I got the pd15img.zip and tried to load it. i got fail-pu. I realize this was said in the general Q&A and it was said that my phone is truly bricked. What are my options to recovery my phone or fix it in any shape or form? I saw somewhere there was a jtag fix but i'm not sure if i send them my phone or if they send me a kit or something to fix it myself and, i want a trust worthy fix and not send it to someone who will screw it up(even more...). I've gone through two of these phones and really beginning to hate it.
You have truly bad luck. Your eMMC is toast. There is no true fix, short of replacing the board.

Ok, well thanks for the reply.
Coming from a galaxy s4, i did alot of tweaking around, sometimes screwing up systemui and other things that would cause my phone to bootloop and get stuck... There was always an easy solution... Reboot the phone into recovery, wipe data, and flash the rom again, then everything would be ok.. ive never truely had my phone brick to a point where it was a nightmare to fix. Everything was easily accessible through TWRP
does that work the same on the g2??? If i flash a kernel that doesnt work, or do something that causes my rom (clean rom) not to boot up, is it as simple as booting the phone into recovery and flashing my rom again to start from scratch???
Just wanna know what im getting into before i risk screwing anything up.. thanks
looking around i see posts of people having nightmares to fix their phones... i dont know what fastboot is either.. cant you just boot the phone into twrp and reflash your rom???

I'm curious about this too. On rare occasions it has been necessary to pull the battery to reboot the phone. How does one handle those circumstances with a non-removable battery?

thats exactly what i was wondering earlier... you would pull the battery when it bootloops... but.. we cant pull the battery, so what do we do??? And what is the purpose of fastboot, if we have TWRP??? i would assume you would easily just boot the phone into recovery and just flash the rom again to fix it, but why does it seem like people are having other issues??
Worrying gives grey hairs...what if we all die tomorrow? TRWP is God for the G2 stop worrying ?

Have the latest recovery (2.6.3.2) installed!!! Turn off phone and then hold Vol- and power simultaneously till you see the LG logo then release the buttons for 1 second then press and hold Vol- and power again till you see the factory reset screen. Just select "Yes" twice and you will boot into recovery (don't worry about seeing this screen you won't lose any data unless you actually wipe from recovery)
If you don't have TWRP 2.6.3.2 installed then you can break your device attempting to do button combos so make sure you have this version!

if I remember correctly you should be able to hold the power button down for a few seconds then as soon as the LG screen comes up it should power off.
if you can't get it to power off, just try the button combination from where you are and follow through with instructions.

Again, you want to hit "Yes" twice. Don't worry you won't lose any data unless you erase it inadvertently from TWRP. just go on in click "Yes" twice to the factory reset you will be fine. It will boot you into recovery from there and it WILL NOT wipe your phone.
