Wanting to Trade in - Epic 4G General

I am wanting to trade in my epic for the new epic 4g touch. Now I know they won't take it because it has a custom ROM on it and is rooted. How do i get it back to the way it was when i pulled it outta the box? Thank you.

Check out Amazon, they do some trade programs as well.

Your willing to give Samsung more money after the failures to deliver good software to their devices time and time again? I jumped to the photon, the slight hardware upgrade the SGS2 has over the photon doesn't help with the lack of faith in the company.

Do a google search for unroot Epic 4g. It should be the first link that comes up. It's not XDA, so I can't post the link here. However, it's the easiest way I know. Install a little program on your computer, start it, and follow the directions. After it's done, just do an OTA update. It's so easy it's ridiculous. I think they call it the RUU or something like that.

Its easy Watch QB king 77 videos on YouTube he has the links to the things you need to unroot I just did this a week ago before I gave my mom my epic & got the nexus you need the pit file & tar file put the pit file where it suppose to go & then put the EC05 tar file in PDA slot make sure its checked & only have auto reboot checked on top of Odin!!! DO NOT CHECK F.RESET TIME OR RE- PARTITION

New droid owner

Ok Ive been a long time iphone owner since they came out and ive never owned an android product. Im tired of the crappy service I get with att anywhere outside of large cities and the iphone in general so me and my wife are switching over to verizon. We both ordered the droid x two days ago and somehow we are getting them tomarrow despite the aug 4th ship date that they said. The more I review about android OS and the droid x the more I think I will love it compared to the iphone. My question is which meathod of rooting should I take. Ive never rooted before of course so should I use the one click method or the list of instructions method. Im real tech savvy so if the list instructions way to root it is the best im comfortable with that. My next questions is on updates. Do i need to have the phone unrooted everytime that I preform an update or is that unnessisary? Also if I delete or rename some basic bloat ware do I need to make sure it is all back the same before I update? Thanks for any help and I look forward to be on the droid side
Ok i have my phone. Any answers to my post? Is this the wrong site to be asking this?

I rooted mine using better terminal emulator right on my phone. Took all of 15 mins maybe. I've never done the one click thing but have heard great things about it. I guess its really what you're comfortable with. Just make sure you take your time and don't miss any steps!
Good luck & welcome to DROID!

Thanks for your reply. If i root now will it conflict with future updates?
Sent from my DROIDX using XDA App
It shouldn't. At least it hasn't yet. Just be careful with what bloat you delete. Make sure you keep anything that is blur related and verizons backup assistant. Its been said you will brick if you delete any of those.

I've rooted several phones and the one click was so easy. Once I extracted the files & installed the drivers it took less than a minute.

+1 for the one-click method!! it worked flawlessly!

Quick question about the update

Hi I'm not on the stock rom do I have to odin ba,k to stock

Anyone ?

its being pushed out ota, so you can odin back and not have it waiting on you, the best thing to do is just wait for a dev or Sammy to release a downloadable version so you wont be stuck on stock waiting up to 3 weeks for an update.
From what I understand and have gathered from the numerous other questions posted about this exact thing on the forum... I believe custom roms will not receive the ota through their phone, but you should seriously read through other threads before posting something like this

After odin back to stock I'm going to call tmobile and tell them that I did not get the update

Ok, along similar lines. I flashed the leaked JI2 rom (no other fixes) via ODIN. Should I expect an OTA update? How do I get back to stock?

yes u need to go to the stock room. Now the update, if is TRUE, is been released in groups, not everybody will get it at the same time.
Why is that dum?

And now I have a brick. Started the process in odin with a tar and pit file from this thread.
This was a freshly exchanged Vibrant (my old one, with a wonky USB port is sitting in the return shipping box). So now, I've got ANOTHER Vibrant on the way. I have to take the one I was exchanging and take it out of the sealed shipping box I was going to send back Friday and use it in the meantime. Since I have to break the tamper proof seal I have to wait to send back the bricked phone until they send me another shipping label and seal. Sheesh!!
You are clearly to noob to mod with your phone lol.

You would think so, but...umm no.
Never had this problem with my G1(flashed, re-flashed and then some), oh how I miss it!! I think the Vibrant hates me!!
Phone 1) swapped it out for GPS issue (when they were still thinking it was isolated) Phone 2) horrid call quality for some reason and dropping off of network (switched out sim card first) Phone 3) stopped being recognized by PC and now Phone 4) this one was my fault

Have a bricked vibrant?

Email me I will walk you threw it every step of the way day or night

Maybe you can add all the different ways that people are successfully recovering their Vibrant through.
My only question is about the drivers it takes to run odin as I'm buying a laptop next week and I think it would be a good idea to set it up

You just need to make sure you have your Samsung USB Drivers and as far as I know that should be enough. Might need busybox and ADB as well but not sure about that. Check out the Odin tutorials on this forum.
yeah the usb drivers is that in odin or a separate download I'm on my phone now and the search in the mobile app is not accurate a lot

Go to http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=771111 and look for Odin and USB and it will take you to the things you need. And if you want the Pit file look at http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=810130&highlight=Pit+Odin

Well I bricked my vibrant after trying to do a Nand restore....I was coming from obsidian V3 and going back to Macnut R10....Everything seemed to go great until my vibrant got stuck at a screen that says vibrant for a second then switches right to the Galaxy S GTI9000 screen and then I get nothing afterward....I don't have the 3 button download mode so I can't do an odin restore(and yes I have searched youtube, these forums and several others for answers before asking for help today)....I was thinking about buying that modded micro-usb adaptor to force download mode...Or should I just throw in towel and beg tmo to send me another one? I would love to fix the problem myself but, I really don't see any other way... And now I have to painfully use my JB'd iphone 3G with Edge....Any suggestions folks? Oh and I'm not a rookie...been flashing roms since the G1 (well technically since the tytn) Not a pro....but not a rookie

Finally have my Evo back!

I never really got rid of my Evo or lost it, but I did have to be away from it since about April. As of this morning I'm home from Afghanistan. After a bunch of updates, and a much needed nap, I'm back to browsing the forums from the XDA app and couldn't be any happier.

It's good that you are back home! Assuming you took the 2.3.3 OTA, you have to use a new method to root your phone. Check out revolutionary.io for details. If you are already rooted, then disregard what i just said. Assuming you are in the military, thanks for your service
Glad you're back home safe!

Samsung kiosk at Best Buy phone fixer program.

Hello everyone, I have a question about something. First I'll start with this, I rooted my phone (GS4) and I screwed around too much. Long story short I deleted my recovery by accident so people on xda told me to take it to Best Buy. I took it there and they hooked me up I said "Kies broke my phone" and I think they bought it, but anyway the woman at the desk hooked my phone up to the computer, put my phone in Odin download mode and installed something. She fixed my phone, recovery is all good, got rid of root and got all the bloatware back, but my phone was fixed and none of my stuff was missing. How? What was the program they used? I was going to ask what she did but I was short on time. Does anyone have a clue so I can get my hands on this in case it happens again? If anyone knows and could tell me I would greatly appreciate it.
Thank you!
PS. I think I posted this in the right forum. Hope so.

No I didn't try it myself. I was going to but I figured I'll let the pros do it. If she flashed it back to stock, wouldn't it delete my data? Data as in music, pics and apps.
