[Q] Question about the modem.tar file - Continuum General

Is the froyo_modem.tar.md5 file on Josh's ec07 ROM thread the same one that was originally included on the imnuts' orginal froyo thread?
Josh's thread is named this:
"UPDATED![EC07|EC03][Rom][CWM] 09/13 Clean Froyo "Froyo 2.2.2"
Thread"
Imnuts' thread is named:
"[ROM][STOCK][FROYO] EC03 Froyo Update"
Also, could Backing up my apps while on one ROM (ec03, ec07, Nuckin...) & then flashing a different ROM (any of the 3 mentioned previously) & then Restoring them - cause any problems? or should I just re-download them from the Market again?
Thanks.

modems are one in the same... roms are different.
shouldnt be a problem if u clear caches

Rom that update itself

hi to everyone,
i would like to know if there's a custom rom that can be installed (the first time); after that, when some updates occur, i can update the rome with a small zip and not to reflash all the phone to get the new version? there is such a rom that has this feature?
for example, i have a stock deodexed rotted stock FRG83 (taken from development section) and i would like to know if there's an update i can install only the update instead of reflashing all the rom (even if i don't do a wipe)?
sorry for my english
thanks in advance
one and only ... stock rom
If your are flashing a "small zip" why not just flash the whole ROM? If you are upgrading to a newer version of the ROM you currently use, you only need to wipe cache and dalvik. All your apps and settings should remain intact. In and out, done in less than 10 minutes.
THANKS... so simple

[FILE][ZIP] CWM - GAPPS with new market 2.2.7 - Works with MDJ Ginger 2.x

Hey guys,
Just thought I'd share this with you. This is a fairly new GAPPS I pulled from a Cyanogen forum post for you guys that still don't have the new market app. It's a Clockwork zip, so it installs through CWM. Tested and works perfectly on a fresh install of MDJ Gingerbread 2.0 and 2.1. I got it from a CM6 thread, so it seems to be compatible with it also.
Edit - New link is Gingerbread official GAPPS, must be flashed with Clockwork v1.1!
Enjoy!
-- LINKS TAKEN DOWN -- People are having issues and causing more damage to their ROMs than supposed to. Will fix and get back to everyone. Sorry!
WARNING: MAKE A BACKUP OF YOUR IMAGE AND APPLICATIONS BEFORE INSTALLING! I did it on a CLEAN ROM and cannot promise that it will work for everyone on a pre-installed ROM.
Any news on this?

Uninstall Gingerbread MIUI 2.3.4 on Galaxy S

Hello, i need to uninstall Miui Gingerbread to install the official Gingerbread, i'm much more used to it, how can i do it?? Already tried to clean up the data and system and tried the Sam's firmaware last gingerbread but it would not worked.. Is it possible to downgrade to 2.2 and then install 2.3.3??
Greetings
Yes it is possible to downgrade for 2.3.3 to 2.2(.1 in my case)
I can't remember exactly how I did it, but I basically followed the instructions to install MIUI, but for a 2.2 ROM, so wiping data, system and cache, then flashing a darky ROM (but should work with any tbh)
Dead easy. Just install the Samsung Android 2.3.3 XWJVB ROM (link - http://www.theandroidsoul.com/how-to-install-xwjvb-gingerbread-rom-gaalxy-s/)
But before you install XWJVB, install the EZRom to remove/uninstall the MIUI. It's available in two versions, select the one you want:
Android 2.2 based EZRom - http://www.theandroidsoul.com/ezbase-ezrom-for-android-2-2-install-revert-back/
Android 2.3 based EZRom - http://www.theandroidsoul.com/ezbase-rom-v3-0-full-installation-guide-w-video/
Credits and Thanks to Nitr8 for great EZRoms
All you need to do it , Flash the Official GB FW , using Odin (Repartition just to be sure)

[Q] New defy, want to get ICS/MIUI on it, help?

Hey
I just got a brand new Defy and I'm hoping I can get ICS on it. However, in my country there's no T-Mobile, Verizon, Orange or whatever, I bought it in an electronics store, so I have absolutely no idea about what CG version it is. I've already read the beginner's guide from top to bottom, but I still have some doubts:
1. How do I know which CG version do I have? (I need to know so I can know how to get back to stock in case of warranty)
Nevermind, I found the answer >_> CG 4 SBF 3.4.2 (Froyo)
2. I've seen lots of ROMs for this device, but their instructions aren't very clear and I don't want to brick my device (which, from what I've read it is very hard to do) or get stuck in a higher CG version.
3. The beginner's guide is cool, but I haven't seen any tutorials on installing a specific rom (in my case ICS) so, I'd appreciate some pointers here, if possible
Thanks in advance! =)

I have a defy+, so i have 2.3.6 on it. But you don't need to flash any new firmware to get ICS or MIUI, since they both have froyo builds. CG version only changes when you flash full SBF, not when installing zips and custom ROMs. So you shouldn't worry about getting stuck on a higher CG.
So what you need of course is a rooted phone , the SndInitDefy_2.0.apk (to install custom recovery and bootmenu because of locked bootloader), install the latest bootmenu (don't mind installing the old one although it might work on froyo). And there you're ready to flash! (to enter custom recovery on your defy, reboot your phone and press the volume down key when you see the blue led) I assume you know how to use the custom recovery, so I won't go into detail on that.
Since I haven't flashed any froyo ICS builds before, I don't dare to tell you how to myself! So just head over to the main CM9 ICS thread You'll find a guide in the first post. Nevermind, i'll just quote it here:

How to flash ICS (Defy Builds)
1:Head Over To Stable recovery
2:Wipe Data
3:Install Zip from SD Card
4:Select ICS(Defy) .zip
5:Flash
6:Flash CM7 Kernel
7:Clear Cache and Dalvik Cache
First Boot will take some time...

You need to flash Google Apps seperately through recovery. You should find the files and links needed in the thread linked above. Know the difference between the Defy+ builds (with gingerbread [gb] kernel), and the Defy builds with froyo kernel.
Please note that ICS for defy is still in it's early stages and you might experience bugs. But most people still think it's worth it! xD Sorry if I made it too detailed for you, but then others can make use of it too! Oh, I hope I haven't said wrong that will soft brick your phone! Flashing the wrong kernel always gives me bootloader error! Anyway bricking really isn't that scary (only the first time i can confirm) It's good to have an SBF with RSDLite and Drivers installed on your PC just in case
Oh! And then If you want MIUI, just do the normal wipes and flash the ROM. Let me recommend MIUI Pikachu edition by TweetyPeety, the best MIUI ROM out there! It even has the touch based AROMA installer in recovery where you can customize the installation!
I was wandering if there is any advantage in flashing a newer kernel (either CM9 kernel or a GB full SBF) on defy if I'm using CM7/CM9/MIUI
Also, I tried CM9 without flashing the kernel, and it works, so I can't figure what difference would that step make. How does changing the default kernel affect the use of custom roms? Any hit in performance/usability? Would I have to use Defy+ roms if I flash CM9 kernel?

I think you shouldn't flash new kernel for CM9 since it is in alpha
it is better to keep on CM7.1 and wait until a stable version from CM9 (unless you are a real HW or SW developer)

Issues with GPS
Hello smokerman,
First thank you for this incredible rom, it's very fast and slick !
I have a brand new wiko rainbow and i tried to flash numerous times your rom (slimpop v2) i noticed no issues except with the GPS and location services in general, i activated the GPS + 3G+wifi network positioning, and nothing seems to work i can't get a position, i tried to use numerous gps fix app, and even your own GPS fixer for the wiko rainbow published on your website in april, and still no luck.
I flashed the wiko in stock kitkat 4.4.2, installed TWRP recovery after rooting it, then used the recovery to flash the slimpop v2 zip + the rootfile do the wiping and all the shebang following your instructions to the letter, but everytime (i tried 5 times) the location service just don't work, i tried all the engineering tools available in the dev section of the phone to try and pinpoint the issue but no luck.
Of course i tested if the GPS and location services were working fine with the stock wiko 4.4.2 rom (gps tools, dev tools, waze) it all work fine !
Do you have any ideas what i could have done wrong ? Im open to do some testings, or report any kind of logs you would need to track that issues.
Thanks,
Cya
EDIT1 : strangely enough after a few tests with differents roms, it seems that all the roms i tried that use the WR kernel have issues with the GPS (even with your fix) the ones that doesn't use it have no problems working. I was thinking maybe that brand new rainbow has a different GPS chip ? i got no clues as to why it's not working
I am using MyPhone Rio, and Wiko v13 as base, followed the instructions on flashing, yet stuck on first boot logo after flash. Hmnn, don't know what to do

I had this problem when i wasn't using the base V13 from scratch (as in reflashed into the phone) then rooted with kingroot then installed the philz recovery that smokerman supplied, then boot in recovery > wipe for installing new rom (it's an option) > then flash the slimpop v2. before doing that i was stuck all the time in bootloop like you. Maybe try this ?

Hmn, before flashing this, I did flash Wiko v13 thru spft, tried wipe to install new rom as I am using Philz, also tried wipe cache dalvik factory reset, same result. I also tried flashing slim v2 as Wiko v10 still stuck on boot logo. I can use 1.1 and 1.2 perfectly before. I am not sure what I am doing wrong

Have you tried for the initial stock flash to use the wiko official tool V13 KK ? maybe there is something wrong going on with your spft, otherwise no clues ^^
I saw that smokerman posted in the original thread that it should be flashed over a V10 stock, and not a V13, sadly he doesn't seems to look at that Q&A thread and i don't have enough post to ask directly in the original thread...
Anyway since we replace everything kernel + rom, what technical reason is there to have a basic V10 instead of anything (like a V13), since we seems to replace everything anyway. Im curious.
EDIT1 : well still no luck starting with a V10 stock rom then flash the slimpop v2 following the procedure, the gps still giving me no fix at all... ah well too bad, it was looking like an incredible rom, i will use the stock until i find something else to use.
Keep up the good work.
Cheers
