why dont you just have a tour on the top-pinned thread
You mean the unlock code? If so your gonna have to have a buddy with AT&T ask for it or buy one. I got one from UnlockThatPhone.Com for like 15 bucks.
EDIT:& No im not those morons advertising a website.

There is no other way to unlock? I have to have an unlock code?
sent from my rooted, unlocked, HTC Inspire 4G.
use the script here to unlock any AT&T Atrix (bootloader unlock, not carrier unlock which those other guys were talking about)
this will allow you to flash a custom recovery (i suggest Romracer's in the development section, but Rom Manager's recovery also works perfectly. those are the ONLY TWO you should be using. they're the only two that have EXT4 support for our phone, which is needed with newer ROMs.
after that, download any ROM from the dev section and flash away in recovery mode. remember to clear dalvik/cache/data before wiping any new ROM.
what kind of unlock are you talking bout ?for your bootloader or do ya meen for the carrier like att tmobile acme phone company

I have the T-Mobile G2 Touch (HTC Hero) and i want to unlock it.
I think im going to use a code from ebay.
I am running a custom ROM at the moment, do i need to restore my phone to an official rom to unlock it?
If i do need to restore to an official rom, how do i do this?
No, in most cases you will be fine as you are, just use the code.
I did read a in another thread about a guy having problems unlocking with one particular custom Rom but for the most part its fine.

my experience is that i had to restore it to unlock, it wouldnt unlock using froydviallain 1.5 once i had unlocked it, i then flashed modaco 2.1 then eleinux but, i havent changed radios yet, so dont know if that will mess it up again and have to do same by going back, hope that helps
Hey guys I recently bought an atrix off craigslist. It's the bell version and is running GreyBlur and is rooted. How do I tell if the bootloader is unlocked or not? I tried flashing clockwork mod through adb and it kept saying failed to flash, so I became suspicious that the bootloader is locked, ( I previously though that since im running a ROM, the bootloader must be unlocked) Correct me if im wrong, thanks

Only has to be rooted, not unlocked to run a P-ROM which is what you have with GreyBlur. It's not an actual ROM.
oh I see, so most likely the bootloader is locked because it fails when trying to flash clock work mod. Is it safe to unlock the bootloader when running a P-Rom ? I was reading the forums about people bricking their devices by ota updates and SBF files, or do those things only happen once your bootloader is unlocked? Thanks
You got everything mixed up...

If bootloader is unlocked you should see "Unlocked" at the upper left corner at boot screen (the first one, with dual core logo).
You couldn't flash clockwordmod because it's not officially supported, you should use the ones provided at the dev forum (either for the locked or the unlocked bootloader)

P-ROMs has nothing to do with unlocking. P-ROM is just a heavily modified version of an official motoblur ROM.
About the bricking... well, there is always a chance of bricking if you don't know what you are doing and don't read instructions carefully till you understand everything. But if you follow everything as stated, most likely you won't brick.
Cheers
U should get on google+ we chat this up often

ok guys
1) I unlocked my bootloader
2) Flashed Clockwork Mod
3) Placed this http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1169409 on my sd card
4) tried to install zip using clockwork but it kept saying installation aborted
After that didnt work I tried using adb and moto-fastboot to flash the rom, it worked but now my phone is in boot loop. I tried deleting user data and tried reflashing the rom but still in bootloop. What is the next step I should do, I know i'm one wrong step away from a brick so I really want to be carefull.
Should I try flashing a different rom using moto fastboot? thanks
I have an unlocked and rooted Atrix 4G running on 4.1.83, and I know once I do the 4.5 update I will loose the ability of RSD Lite to flash back to previous sbf's. I have put off this update due to the fact of possibly limiting my options with the phone. I havn't had enough time to really look into different roms or even start studying up on developing something (which I want to in the future; just busy with job interviews and a big move coming up). But to get to the point, is it worth it for me just to do the update or not? I am curious of everyones thoughts on this....
Thanks
Personally, I think it's not worth updating since we will soon have CM7. It's all up to you though. I enjoy my freedom when customizing my phone. Do you?

you can use fruitcakes to flash 1.83 if froyo is your thing.
Personally even the buggy CM7 build is miles ahead of the assorted 2.3.4 Roms if you don't need a camera or wifi tether. I will never run 2.2 again

moto's own bootloader unlock
Isn't moto going to unlock the boot loader anyway? Wouldn't that mean it would be possible to continue the stock ROM updates and then choose to unlock after the next update from moto and have the ability to flash arbitrary ROMs as current unlocked owners can? Perhaps I'm missing something between the curren unofficial unlock and moto's future unlock.
i ran the update and have lost my tethering hack... looking for a fix now.

No offense but the mods probably want this in Q&A. That being said, CWM Recovery is the safest route post 2.3.4 update. That is actually the preferred method anyway. All of the Atrix firmwares are available as CWM flashable zips in samcripp's fruitcakes thread. You don't really lose anything but the ability to use RSD which is least preferable anyway.
hi all my brother has tried to use carrierunlock to unlock his phone from rogers. but he was unable to unlock it
i had rooted and installed cyanogen on there.
is the cyanogen mod making it so he cant unlock?
or is it the root?
i didnt think the modding would disable his ability to unlock his phone.
anyone know what i can try?
i have told him to reload a configi saved before i loaded cyanogen on. so im hoping its the mod and not the root thats messng up the process.
thanks for the help

my wifes g2 broke so i got a new one, whats the best way to root now? its up to date on updates?
You can use the guide here.
Or if that's too much of a read: http://wiki.cyanogenmod.com/index.php?title=HTC_Vision
(PS: You're most likely going to be using the G2 Gingerbread unlock since I doubt a new one came with Froyo).
Read through that didn't know if there was different way because of the unlocked bootloader from htc

Thats true and when u use HTC Unlock u lose garanty.
You may simply follow the xda-wiki. I rooted my desire z (2.3.3) this July 12th (though it was bought in April, 2011). I don't think htc is intelligent enough to unlock the bootloader in the first place. They still want people to come and ask them for unlocking and then loose warranty. And the warning they have written on the page, my God!. I almost fainted reading their warning.
I don't know but if the bootloader is unlocked, you should be able to boot a custom rom directly by putting it in your sd card (I'm a NOOB so Devs please confirm this).
I was going o use their method but then I read about its futility and decided to go the hard way:laugh:
if you use the offical htc unlocked bootloader you loose your warranty right then, you have to go through many annoying steps to change roms, and being you don't have true s-off it you will be locked out of loads of other stuff
just root and give yourself an engineering hboot with true soff and you will be much happier, if you have a warranty and something goes wrong you can always go back to stock and send it in without their knowledge of ever being rooted
