U cant get rid of pre installed launcher, however u CAN set the new launcher as the default

YES YOU CAN get rid of the pre-installed/stock launcher, granting you have Titanium Backup to use to remove it and MOST IMPORTANTLY you should already have a 3rd-party launcher ALREADY INSTALLED because if not, your phone will not boot properly and you will get stuck at the SE boot logo..

You can remove it "by hand" too, with adb shell, a terminal emulator or Root Explorer. You don't need Titanium backup, though you can use it of course. However, what you certainly need is root and read-write access in the /system position.

Freaking Swype... I meant the /system partition.

So, what you guys are saying is that is safe to remove SE home as long as I have another launcher already installed ? Thanks.

That is the case.

If your going to remove it, back it up first - future upgrades may require it or they will fail. I installed a pre release version of the SE Launcher, and because I didn't back it up first, I had a hell of a time getting the upgrade going (had to do a full wipe, downgrade, etc etc..)
Thats the only gotcha i know of

How to unistall andorid-programs (x10 min Pro)

Hi!
I just got my first Android mobile... yepiiiiii
Only one thing is bugging me:
I know how to uninstall programs that I downloaded or installed from the SD, but how do I unistall games that came with the phone? Those 3 games are: Peggle, CA Gold Rush & Roller Coaster.
I'm new to Andoid, so take it easy
Please help, I'll be very thankful...
If its the same as your big brother x10 just go into settings, applications and select whatever program you wanna take away.
if it that don't work you need root access to take it away, we had that prob with moxier!

I don't know if it's like the bigger x10. But I tried with the program from the setting... It does'nt have any uninstall button.
And yes, I have access to the root with a program that I downloaded from the Android market called Astro file manager.
Help Please!
According to your message, you have removed creatouch from your phone. Can you please tell me the actual app name of creatouch for removing it by root.
Ex. roadsync.apk
I have tried Creatouch.apk and many other ways but could not remove it.
By any chance, do you know the name for CA Gold Rush?
Root access in this case = Superuser access.
The easiest way to do it is to check out this thread, download, install, run the apk on your mini, and it should take care of everything.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=747587
Then the easiest way to remove the apps would be to get something like Titanium Backup, and uninstalling the apps through there...
Yup you need to root to get rid of the very annoying bloatware put on by SE and your carrier. Bugged me when during the last update Tmobile put on another useless app. When will they realise that the beauty of android is that we should get to choose what we have on our phones not them. No-one uses their crappy programmes anyway!!

Hi.
I got shut of it yesterday using Root Explorer and Titanium Back-Up. I used TB to uninstall it, I then went to /data/app and removed the apk, then from /data/app-private, and lastly from /system/app, and now have no trace of it.

[Q] Newb Questions 1

First time smartphone owner and first experience with android, so forgive my basic questions.
1) Can one view the important operating system directories, like System, without rooting? If so, how? And can you get write access?
2) What is the difference between firmware and baseband? Can they be updated independently? Can they be updated without rooting?
3) What is the general term for software like TouchWiz? Can you replace it without rooting? What happens to is when you install a different type?
Thanks in advance for your help.
to answer your first question, you can download an app called astro file manager from the market that will give you access to the directories you want, but i don't think you can have write access without root, but i could be wrong
second, not sure what the difference between firmware and baseband. pretty sure you need root to update the firmware though since there hasn't been an official release.
lastly, i think the term you're looking for is 'launcher'...you can download alternative launchers from the market. ADW launcher and Launcher Pro are probably the most popular. you can have them installed without actually replacing the Touchwiz launcher, but you won't have access to the Samsung widgets. you can also download an app called 'home switcher' to switch between the different launchers you have installed.
hope this helps. and, anyone feel free to correct me if i'm wrong
Thanks for the reply.
I have Astro File Manager, but I can't see the System dir. Any idea what I might need to do?
Are Launcher and Home Switcher Synonymous?
Home Switcher is an app that lets you move from LauncherPro, ADW and TouchWiz more easily.

You won't be able to see the System dir without rooting. You might as well root if you want access to the System dir. I've had the G1, the Nexus One, the MyTouch Slide, and now the Vibrant and this phone is by far the easiest to root so far AND its reversible just in case you need to un-root to send it in for repairs or warranty claim. You can learn how to root here in xda but here's a link with step-by-step instructions.

Thanks for the replies, this is clearing up a lot of things in my head. I'll be sure to check out that link. I was hoping to hold of rooting until we got froyo, but I'm guessing that won't be for a while.

I'm hearing Sept for froyo for us but if you root and keep the stock rom like I'm doing you should get the OTA update for froyo when they decide to send it out.

Remove Acer SW stock Apps

I'm a newbie, using Fido Liquid e 2.1.
I want to remove some Apps that comes in stock (Acer Reg., Acer Settings, Acer Sync, Email, nemoPlayer, RoadSync, Spinlets, ufFooz).
Is rooting the only way to allow me to remove those?
Also, how can I stop some programs from autostart, if possible.
Thanks!
Ken
I rooted my phone and I want to the same as you want. Anyone know how?
You can use Titanium backup as it allows to uninstall system app

Confirmed (agree), Titanium is the easiest way and it does require root access.

Before I upgrade to 2.2, I used Universal Androot and removed some stock apps (using Titanium backup).
I was worried that I might not be able to upgrade it to 2.2 stock. So I do the followings:
1. Used Universal Androot to revert the phone to unroot status
2. Installed the stock apps back to the phone
3. Removed Universal Androot (just in case)
And I successfully upgraded to 2.2, no problem whatsoever.
Then I used Titanium Backup to uninstall all Acer apps (except Acer Registration, which I don’t know how to remove), Tasks, RoadSync, Urfooz, Spinlets, Email, even the Android keyboard (I use the hacked HTC Touch IME for 2.2).
Now the phone loads fast!
BTW, some apps will still show itself after the above procedures, use “Manage applications” in “Settings” to remove it again.

You need to root your phone. You need to install "Malez recovery" it's easy. I don't think you guys realize how easy it is, there is an installer. Just put your phone in usb debugging mode, install your phone drivers, plug in your phone, install Malez. Instructions are on his page. Then you can use titanium backup the get rid of crapware and do backups. Don't bother with task killer aps unless your really know what you're killing. You could do more harm than good.
Cheers.
Hello,
Do you know in titanium backup de name of acer register to unnistall ?
thanks !!!!

Arranging the appdrawer

Was wondering how to arrange the applications in the appdrawer alphabetical.
Now if i install a applications the order is random. The order that i wouldt prefer is from A to Z

Assuming youre talking about the stock launcher, its done by installation date/time. If you have root, back it up, delete via root explorer, reboot then restore the back up.

Sure.. xP Install other launcher like adw launcher, uninstall the launcher pro, reboot and then install the full launcher pro
now you can uninstall the adw launcher..
Thanks, but the problem is, that the LP and Adw are in my case system aplications. When i'm trying use the adw and delete LP option "uninstall app" is unavailable.
Sent from my X8 using XDA Premium App
You have to uninstall system aplications with Titanium Backup.
You can also delete if from Root Explorer in \system\app
It is absolutely necessary to install another launcher because if you just delete it, you won't be able to use your phone.
Thanks for replies. I've tried both of operations with no succeed;/

No succeded? That's weird.. xD
Use Root Explorer, mount rw and go the to \system\app.. now you can delete launcher pro and after installing launcher pro plus, the adw to..
I've tried this way. After delete i've tried to install LPP, but then jump out a massage that is the system apk and am I sure that I want to replace it. When I click "Yes" installation is in progress, after a while shows, that aplication can't be installed.

I can post my system to you, just need to do an advanced restore..
It would be nice
i installed ADW and set it as default app then used root uninstaller from market to get rid of LP, rebooted and installed LP plus set it is default and remove ADW.
keep ADW just incase. every time i update MiniCM versions, it resets my Plus to normal. had to disable LP default and use ADW, del wif Tita.Backup reboot n reinstall LP.Plus again.. else u gonna get a hard time trying to access ur apps after a clean reboot..
