[Q] Gingerbread to Honeycomb - Nook Color Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

First time posting, but been a follower of this site. I have managed to find things when needed but this time I could not find what I'm looking for, hence the post.
I have a color nook that I bought used from a guy at work. It has the CM7 mod installed in the internal memory version 2.3.3. It's been working find and I have no problem with it for over 6 mos now.
I was wondering what would be the easier way to upgrade from gingerbread to Honeycomb 3.0 or higher. Would it be like upgrading from stock to honeycomb.
Any directions to a guide would be greatly appreciated.
Thank you.
Manik

Do not use honeycomb. Its is completely unstable because it is just an SDK port. With no source code it isn't going to get any better.
You would spend your time better by upgrading to the latest cm nightly.

Shweet!!!!! If I knew how to code..I would surely help you!(If you have anything easy to work on..do tell )
I will die for it IceCream!!! the camera speed is so fast..
Using Gingerbread as a base presumably?
Given the amount of "non-standard" hardware in the SGS2, you'll need support libs from either an existing non-AOSP OEM firmware, or from CM7 won't you?
great.. i hope u will port in a bunch of days
it's so great.you can do it!

Lol no he can't. There isn't a FULL system dump of the Galaxy Nexus yet. There is only the dump from the SDK. He will probably theme it like Ice Cream Sandwich. Anyways good luck to the dev
source is the power, says cyanogen. wont this be useless when the sources are released? wont this feel like wasting cuz when sources is released, other devs will easily make those ICS roms, instead of porting it.
well anyway good luck to the dev!

That's not the point. Of course, a dump would be a lot better. But being the first to port and get a working SDK rom... Now that's where the fun is
It is possible, we have the full SDK ROM.
Ask galnet how you import proprietary files with dependencies

I for one don't see this working as every device seems to be getting the same LibC error at the moment (except for some reason the G2).
The best hope seems to be getting a HC rom to work then using the boot.img from that to boot the ICS sdk port. (this is what we believe happened with the G2 to get it to boot)
I would be satisfied with the new gmail application including widget
Cheers!
Looking to try .Hope you have a great ICS.

Version 3.1 of that ROM has already been ported, and the dev is pretty good about keeping up with new releases, so 3.3 and the upcoming 4.0 will probably be available soon.

But as I said, it's coming. No offense, but TDJ is knowledgeable and experienced, so when he ports the newest version, it will be stable and fast. Since you're a novice, your work might not be as reliable. Why not wait a few days for the pro to do it?

Dude, it seems like you just can't wait..... You've already asked the same question in the RCMix3D thread. What's the rush man? The current version its great and there's really no need for an update right now. TDJ said today that it might take him another week before he gets to it because he's got other Things to work on. Be patience and give the devs some time.

[Q] Almost rooted?

Hi guys,
I flashed my Xoom to ICS, and now I have the following configuration:
- I can do adb, adb install
- I can do adb shell as regular user,
- from there, I can do "su" and get access to /data and other root files
- RootChecker tells me I'm not rooted
- no rooted app works (e.g. RootExplorer)
I guess I just need to install SuperUser.apk, sudo and a couple of other things, but I am overwhelmed with information (SuperOneClick, Z4Root etc). Can somebody help me? How can I get rooted apps to work?
Thank you very much
John
Can i ask how where u got the ics files from? Wanna try it out...

What ICS build did you use? I'm not aware of any stable Xoom ICS Rom at this time?
Troll post? I mean, if you're one of those in the know to get an alpha ICS ROM, you'd assume you'd have a dev friend to help you with the quirks of it.
What do you mean, guys? The latest software is available here.
androidadvices.com update-root-motorola-xoom-honeycomb-322-firmware-version [apparently I cannot post links]
Isn't it supposed to be stable? When is a stable version going to be available?
That is definitely not ICS they are talking about in that site. They are talking about Android 3.2.2 which is still Honeycomb. After playing with my Galaxy Nexus all day though, Ice Cream Sandwich can't come out fast enough for the 4G Xoom... it is honestly so much more polished.

Advantage of running official ICS over Team EOS nightly?

Hey all, I'm running the Team EOS nightly and was wondering if there is any advantage to restoring to stock honeycomb for the official ICS update?
Should I just wait until a rooted ICS version based on the official is released?
It was released already, it's at the top of the development forum...flash with CWM, it's already rooted. From what I understand, it's probably faster for 3D gaming...could be wrong though.
Are there any issues with the official ics? I would do a search but it seems the search function is missing for some strange reason.

I can't think of a single one. I just flashed nightly 26 from 23, booting it now. Loving the EOS builds!
For a while none of the gameloft games were working on EOS.
Could have been fixed by now.

It is, I've got Uno and MC3 on mine and they are working fine.
I decided to load up the official rooted release and so far it's pretty much the same as Team EOS's build. Team EOS does seem to be a bit snappier, and I do miss the reboot options on Team EOS build. The only improvement I see with the official is the camera, that seems to be snappier and more responsive on the official.
Only issue existing on both version is the Revision3 app that just won't load.

I've been running rooted ICS stock for several days now ... installed the leaked RC, then rooted.
Your question about EOS vs. stock gets the standard answer from me - are you happy with EOS and want more features in the future? If so, then stay with EOS.
For me, I'll stay with stock rooted - I just want a tablet that works and not interested in tweaks. I'll spend my tweaking time on my Photon.
There is no objectively right or wrong answer to your question, and nobody else can answer it for you. Enjoy!
Good thread. I was curious as well because knowing verizon (any carrier really) i doubt I'll see ICS anytime jan or feb and i konda want it now...

Actually you don't have to root your Xoom if you just want ICS. I believe there is a stock ICS rom out there too. You will have to unlock the bootloader though.
From my perspective if you are running a rooted stock version of ICS there is virtually not a single reason. Stock isn't overclocked, a lot of enhancements are missing etc. But if you run a completely stock ICS with no root there are some advantages. For example, if you run a non-rooted stock you can rent videos from Google. I can't really think of anything else haha. Go EOS, their ROM is sick.

What benefit does the eos have? No need for OC for me. I actually use the xoom alot during the day and will only jse up mlre battery.
I don't rent videos either so i don't care about that

There are a ton of advantages to EOS ROM over Stock. The major one is the micro SD card is read/writable, all voice-to-text features are working as is facelock, the micro USB port is actually useful now, the EOS quick settings are very nice and they all work! There are several battery options from EOS settings and you can make the notification pull look any way you like.
Even if you don't use the performance features this ROM is the only way to Xoom. Until CM9 or Rogue get one out for the 4G

Just got an Atrix, but...

Hi, there, guys!
A friend of mine gave me yesterday an Atrix 4G. I would like to unlock its bootloader, root it and hopefully install the best available rom for it.
But the thing is that I can't find where to start from
There are a lot of threads regarding what I want (I've been reading through the forums for the last two hours) but I am still at a dead end..
My main problem is that most of the topics are about 2.3.4 android version or AT&T Atrix models. Plus, most of the links are dead...
The Atrix I have now is android version 2.2.2 and System Version writes: Version.4.4.20.MB860.Retail.en.GB
As I said I would like to test it with custom roms, but for starters, I would be glad if someone could point me to a way to simply upgrade to 2.3.4 (I don't care for now for unlocked bootloader or root - just want to see how it is in 2.3.4, perhaps perform a backup and afterwards try my luck with custom roms..)
For the record, I tried Motorola Software Update and reported that I am using the latest version..
Thanks in advance for any help you can offer
P.S.: Shame on me - wanted to post is Q&A forum.. Sorry for that - please move if necessary!!
Check out Swiftks guide that's a sticky in this forum.

Hello, and thanks for your help... I think I am getting somewhere...
I followed this http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1302423 to unlock my bootloader and then I followed Swiftks guide you pointed me at and downloaded CM7.
Now I am about to follow Swiftks CyaogenMod Install Guide (http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=19986512&post=234) and I hope I will succeed..
I will report the result - thanks a lot again!

Try the update first, go into settings, about phone and there you'll be able o get an OTA update.
Had already tried OTA - no joy..
Anyways, I've been using the Atrix since Friday and the thing is a real beast after everything I've installed.
I never close any apps - on purpose - I only "minimize" them pressing the home button. It always has around 500MB of free RAM. The thing is a speeding bullet..lol
I only wish it had a more "standard" screen resolution (some apps don't work full screen) and a better camera (it is good but not as good as the arc's)
Look into either 1080p camera on Olympus or for droid3 camera in the ATRIX forums that should give you the outstanding camera you are looking for and remember the ATRIX is VERY powerful and our devs are the best around B-) with their help and our hardware we can make the ATRIX just as good and usually better in any field compared to another phone >.<
Hit thanks if you found this useful

if you want good and fast rom you should try a Cm9 it's great almost stable ,and very quick . ( quicker than cm7 for sure ) i did not have any battery drying
go for CM9 and enjoy that ICS goodness =)
Which CM9 release are you referring to?
I have found:
[ROM] CM9 a multidevice collaboration by multiple devs
[ROM] Atrix CM9 [ADT's SelfKANGish builds]
[Kang] *Unofficial* CM9 and CM7 Kangs/ROMs
Is it any of these ?

I've ran the top 2 you referred to and both run great other than the known issues. My phone has better luck running the ATRIX cm9 [Ad's SelfKangish builds] not sure why but your experience may be different. Both roms are fantastic and are being updated frequently.

I'm running the first one and I am amazed how stable it is. Going on three days and I don't plan on going back to cm7. So far the only thing I'm not liking is wifi speeds are not what they should be.
