Its possible, but i suspect its a typo and its 2.3.3

that's what, one of the images show android version 2.3.3
just making sure y i didnt see a 2.3.5 elsewhere....

without hard proof that it actually is 2.3.5, keep in mind that changing what version is displayed in build.prop is extremely easy. as 2.3.3 -> 2.3.5 didnt add much it would be pretty difficult to spot the differences

Climbing aboard

Greetings all. I recently purchased a Dell Streak off ebay. I've long been a Iphone fan. I stood in line and got the first one and have had every one they released. Even went to so far as to get one for my wife and mom. I finally had enough of Apple's and AT&T's restrictions and wanted a andriod phone. I did alot of research and settled on the streak hands down. I got it off ebay slightly used with the dock, car kit, and otter box for $425. I sold my over hyped Iphone 4 and made a good profit heh.
Anyway, the seller said he installed froyo 2.2 from a leaked website. He said it was the version that allowed the sharing of the internet connection without tethering and such. Basically, I'm a andriod noob. So far I'm loving everything about the streak and andriod. My buddy told me I need to get it rooted. Anybody have any knowledge they want to pass to me? I dont even know how to look up the name of the andriod version I have. I also wonder if I need certain sync software? Any suggestions on what software I need to install? Thank you in advance!
In Settings > About phone you'll find Android version, Baseband version, Kernel version, and OEM version.
Most people here replacing the launcher with either LauncherPro or ADW, both have free and paid versions, and are more standard Android-looking launchers. I personally like Stage UI because it's nice and polished despite it being a little laggy/glitchy. (only had the Streak for a month, came from 3GS)
Also, most people recommend getting Steve's Froyo ROM (1.5.1 latest version), more information about rooting and flashing ROMs can be found on the Development boards. There isn't nearly as many ROMs available for the Streak as there is for the Droids and HTCs out there, but that's because Steve is basically the only one developing in this community. There are other contributors but he has his ongoing Froyo build as well as multiple Alphas in the works.
Rooting is super easy actually, just get the application Superuser from the market.
And oh yea, welcome to the fun side of smartphones.
Than you so much!

[Q] Which 2.1 version is best?

A little while ago I asked how to root my phone on a mac, and while I didn't figure that out, I'm doing it on a friend's windows in a little while.
So, I'm wondering if anybody remembers, which 2.1 is the best in terms of speed and battery? .435 may have brought languages and dual-touch, but I don't care about those, I'd rather have a speedier phone, lol.
Any thoughts? Oh, and I'd prefer a SE version, not custom =p

I also prefer SE's Rachael UI nd HTC's Sense UI, while Samsungs Touchwiz UI is not meant for me, i dnt like it.
I use baseband. 54 version. I have great with luck with it too with custom ROMS.
I got 2.1 basband version .54 through flashtool

Definitely 2.1.A.0.435 is the "best" stock firmware..

HC Has a hidden GB like type UI!

We got HC 3.1 on the dell streak 7 and the lcd density was too low making everything small. I bumped it from 120 to 190 and rebooted and was shocked.. it was a different UI! It was like GB. Setting the LCD Density to 160 and below gave us the HC UI 170 and higher gave us the GB UI

Old news. This circulated round when the SDK was previewable.
What file did you modify to manually change the LCD density?
This has been known since the SDK... yet Engadget is reporting on it again
Please forgive my pure "noob" question...
Please forgive the pure "noob" question I am about to ask but does this mean that Honeycomb is not really a Full OS and just a build up on Gingerbread?
Im not sure if that even makes any sence but the one reason I bought my Xoom (which I am excitedly waiting to have shipped to me) is because of the Honeycomb Tablet "Optimized" OS otherwise I would have just bought a Galaxy Tab...

Is that supposed to be "traitor"?
I have yet to find a way to change the density on the xoom, anyone try this yet?

Gingerbread and honeycomb are separate. Both are self contained OS. For all practical purposes...In the world there is a kernel that is the operating system and everything else (drivers, interface and on is just additions to be able to use the kernel). Just as windows 7 is not vista or XP, they are separate. Combined all together is the OS.
So what makes GB so special and better than HC?
One was designed for small devices GB and HC is still young but made for tablets. they both serve a different purpose. Each one is seperate and one is not better then the other. For instance HC on my Htc evo would not make any sence. Screen is to darn small. you could do it...but it would not(IMO) be practical. I want my tablet not to make phone calls, yet gingerbread could run a tablet, very well I might add. Ice cream from google is the merging of tablet and phone android OSs to a single codebase. There is still much work needed on HC that will be done and the Gingerbread, froyo, Eclair have been around longer so the have a bigger user base.

Any word on when the 3.2 update for those that have build number HMJ37 will arrive?
Just got it. So far I noticed it has a compatabilty option for apps not made for a large screen. I literally just downloaded it so havemt played with it yet. In fact I was coming on here to see if any one else has got it yet. Never mind I I'm tired and didn't read your statement correctly, I have a different model number htj85b

I was wondering why I hadn't gotten the update but since I replaced the data plan on my Xoom with MiFi, I seem to have gotten build HMJ37 somehow. Is this the WiFi only build?

Might be possible. Mine is wifi only with the same build
Thankfully I already got this update and yes it is a bit smoother, yes many apps made for phones will strech to fit(disable spare parts), and yes the sdcard but read only
which build you have?
Xoom wifi only
Android 3.2
HTJ85B
My xoom is 100%stock and is not rooted.
Got my XOOM updated!!!
for those of you stuck with the build HMJ37 and wondering why you can't update, here is the solution I found after scouring mindlessly through webpages:
1. keep your XOOM plugged in or fully charged (for installation purposes)
2. Change your current date (Date & Time) to sometime in the future.
(I changed mine to July 30, 2011)
3. Your update should start working.
@ cappah78
what city do you live? This is a great news.
Just a quick one from a UK User. I was sick of having a device that, whilst identical to the US in terms of design, was not considered a GED device here in the UK (so I have read on numerous forums).
I took the plunge 2 days ago, and flashed US Stock 3.01. Immediately got a request to update to 3.1. Installed, rebooted and immediately got a request to update to 3.2.
So far I've noticed that it's a bit speedier....the Sd Card works, which is amazing for a UK user who hadn't rooted!
On the downside however, it seems it manages to break a few key applications. Adw Launcher Ex 1.3.3 doesn't seem to work (settings are missing etc).
I'm sure they'll catch up again.

Problems with my phone

I bought a used Galaxy i5800 from someone online last month, it was upgraded to a leaked 2.2 build and was fine.
But now it's started to play up and SMS come in hours late. I heard that the official 2.2 is out but I need to get to 2.1 first. But there are loads of 2.1 builds so not sure what one to use for my device and how to do it either :/
Would love some help.
It was bought at CPW, unlocked and it's the one with the physical buttons and not the touch-sensitive onse.
