Is this normal? (never mind the discharge rate, I'm talking about the charge).
At about 80% it suddenly jumps to 100%.
Does this mean my battery's not at full capacity, or is it just mis-calibrated?

I have the same effect, only the jump is at 88% while yours is at 81%!!!
Did you notice that the charging process still continues with decreasing current till 0 (after quite long time)

Resurrecting this thread, sorry, didn't notice the reply.
Yes, but I found a way to 'trick' it.
If you see that it jumps from 100 to 80, wait 'till it comes back down to 80 and plug it back in. This time it'll charge until about 90 and jump to 100 again, so again let it drain to 90 and plug back in.
It works quite well, but still as time goes by it seems like my battery capacity is decreasing, which I guess is unavoidable.
The other day it suddenly jumped from 20 to 100, that scared me like hell.
When I first moved to android mine jumped from about 85 to 100, and also went from 10% to dead in one jump. I did a battery calibration and its been fine now for months. I can run it down to 2% without worrying it will shut off.

What did you use for battery calibration?
I tried Battery Widget Pro but it didn't change anything, if anything it keeps getting worse as BWP 'adjusts' its projected battery size.
I ran it down to zero and in magldr(or is it in cwm?magldr I think) chose wipe battery stats, then charged to full and allowed to run all way back to 1% before charging.
I'll give it a try, although I feel as if I've done it already.
Thanks for the tip.

I found the solution is to leave it in the charger until CurrentWidget shows 0mAh. The readings will be the same, but it will actually charge 'normally' though it'll report shorter charging.

I read a blog which suggested, when charging overnight, to turn the N10 off completely rather than just having it sleep. Is there any merit to this? Does it charge faster?

It does charge faster because the device isn't doing anything to drain the battery. Although overnight is often when devices update themselves so it's up to you if it is necessary as it should fully charge overnight.
I dont see a reason to turn off the tablet to charge, and my tablet never gets turned off. Because there was a user here saying we needed to turn off our tablets any time we werent going to use it within the next hour or two, I did some battery tests. This tablet (assuming you aren't running battery draining apps in the background) loses 1% of battery every 7~ days when idle. So thinking the tablet will somehow charge faster while it is off would be false as we really have negligible drain during idle time. That is unless you are syncing a large number of apps and have a ton of things updating in the background.
Currently my tablet has been on and hasnt charged in 16 and a half days. I have been really busy at work during the week and busy with my friends on the weekends, so I have really only used my tablet about an hour and a half during this charge cycle. So have so far lost only 2% battery from idle, and another 19% from the hour to hour and a half from the time I was playing a video game on the tablet. Assuming I dont use the tablet, I truly expect to be able to pick it up in another 2 weeks from now if I wanted and still be in the 70% range on battery life remaining.

And if you do have a lot of stuff syncing in the background, you still wouldn't want to turn the tablet off while charging since then the things you want to sync will need to sync when you're running off battery instead.
Yup, I agree with the posts above. The only way you could really slow down charging significantly would be with daydream running. This display sure drains lots of energy.
I do both, sometimes powered down other times in sleep mode. Don't see a whole lot of difference.
Here are some screenshots of just how long the battery lasts while idle:

Hi
I bought a nexus 7 one week ago but for some reason the battery ends quickly... It lasts 10Hours +/- using wifi, some music and web browsing, and sometimes a game like logo quiz.
It's new...
Thanks
If it lasts for 10 hours of the screen being on, that is a fantastic result.
But you didn't indicate what fraction of that 10 hrs (elapsed) the screen was on, so who knows.
If you are not using it at all, and it is not on the charger, and you don't have a rogue app installed that prevents the device from sleeping, it should only use a few percent of battery capacity per day.

On the battery section it indicates 10Hours, screen 4/5 Hours awake.

Well... note that the screen is using most of the power.
I pulled my N7 off the charger this morning and have been doing mostly web browsing (& posting here) for 4 hours ... the battery is now at 55%. Extrapolating, that's about 8 he's of expected screen-on time.
BUT! I have auto-brightness control turned off and have the Brightness control turned down to the minimum level. Even doing that, the battery summary info shows the % of use attributed to the screen to be 83% in my case.
Turn your screen brightness down and turn off auto-brightness control and see what happens to your results.
=======================
[Edit] - FWIW, more data for you from my stock 4.2.2 (WiFi) N7:
8 hrs elapsed since pulling my device off the charger @ 100% - 7 hrs 11 min screen-on time. Battery now at 14%.
That works out to 7.183/0.86 = 8.35 hrs of screen-on time pro-rated to 100% battery consumption.
I mostly was browsing & posting, so had I been doing anything more processor intensive, my "time to drained battery" would have been shortened. As I mentioned, this is with the screen turned all the way down in brightness and "auto screen brightness" disabled.
hey guys could anyone help me with this horrible battery life???
I tried clearing the cache from stock recovery but it did not help me
I have updated to 2.1 and I can say that battery life was equally worse in 2.0.2 and 2.1

I wish I could say I have a solution but I have almost the same problem. With my opt, Google play services also is in on the battery drain. Would really like to have some tips. I've seen cases where one of these processes drains the battery, but not 2 or 3.
Very similar to my battery life. 2 hours screen on time, 12 hours off the charger, at 20%.
Do you have fingerprint scanner or tap to wake, and carry your phone in your pants pocket? If so, you may want to try having the screen facing away from you at all times to avoid accidental wakelocks.

Not OP, but personally I doubt it's that. I have charged my phone to 100%, then left it unplugged for 8 hours overnight for testing, and it will usually be at 80% the next morning. Most phones I have had won't drop below 90% overnight.
I just got my OP2 and it was at 93% when I started the initial setup process... after 44 minutes of setting up and downloading apps and the 2.1 update, it was at 52%. My Moto X Pure has "ok" battery life, but is much better in comparison... It only dropped about 20% during the initial setup, including ROOTing and doing a Nandroid.
So, I'm a little concerned about keeping the OP2 for this reason? Plus, the speaker sounds terrible.... But I've been using HTC dual front speaker phones for the past 2 1/2 years and most recently the Moto X Pure with dual front speakers. So the one speaker on the bottom is a bit of a let-down.
Guys, ok i charged my OP2 till 94% last night and left it. In the morning my battery was down to 54% and the major eatup of battery was done by MAPS. but my location was off and maps was not there in the running apps. SOT was 5 mins.
So, i am still trying to figure out as how to kill the Maps. But from morning (7 am) till now (3 pm), my batter was down only 23% and i have been constantly using my phone with SOT as 2 hrs.
Little weird but intersting.
My battery percentage drops greatly after a reboot. I hope the battery is not giving out already. Does anyone know what the problem could be? Maybe it's some battery stat glitch??

That is not normal. 1 to 3 percent is acceptable but 10 times that means something is wrong.
It is likely the battery is failing... Especially if you use Quick/Turbo charging a lot, the life of a battery is reduced significantly.
Before ripping it apart to replace it (which is a PIA I might add), I would do a full discharge/charge cycle twice... allow the device to completely shutdown on it's own do to low battery, then charge it fully to 100% and repeat the cycle once. Don't worry, all the scare stories that this will ruin your battery are exaggerated, the electonics in the battery will not allow it to truly fully discharge, although I would not do this on a regular basis but 2-3 times per year are fine.

Agreed about the discharge method. The lack of easily replaceable battery is one of the main factors that has kept me from rooting until the warranty is up.

Apparently, my battery can travel through time as well.
I drained my battery fully and recharged. I will charge it fully again and see if it helps. Thanks for the replies.

Actually, looks more like it exists in two parallel time lines for a bit there.
Can someone explain to me, please, what is going on with my S8. The drain is crazy.

Is that not normal? lol Mine pretty much looks the same. All my apps are at the bottom of the list but iam getting great battery life
what is your SOT?
i get same system usage as you but i 5-6 sot
4-6 SOT, actually, I thought Android battery life has evolved when I bought galaxy s8. But no, it keeps sucking my battery life even when it's in my pocket.
Unfortunately this issue is present on all samsung galaxy phones i've owned recently (s6 edge, s7).
I can't understand why the battery life is so bad and inconsistent.
No matter if all day wifi or mixed (data 4g/lte & wifi)
The background usage is pretty minimal. I don't understand why people complain that "something" however small is going on with the phone when the screen is off. The system is still alive, after all. Notifications need to get through, sensors need to be active to wake the phone (fingerprint, accelerometer, etc), apps need to be kept in memory, not to mention the always on display. Is it that surprising that if battery went down 10 percent during sleep 20, 30 or even 80 of that drop is due to these things? (that's what that reading indicates after all, 9% is not from total battery capacity, but 9% out of the amount drained).
Sorry for the rude rant, but people "expect" too much of the standby times.
Can the battery be improved? Certainly. Can the power drain be improved? Of course. But never to the point where it consumes absolutely nothing at all during sleep. Except if you turn the phone off.

20 hours on battery, 30%left. OP must be trolling.
Normal
I noticed finger print loves to break deep sleep.
4-6 hours of SOT? That's pretty good though... Same with what most people are getting including me. If I drained it all the way down I could probably reach 7 hours SOT. Totally beats the 3 hours SOT I got with my Note 5.

Did you realize that when you total up the battery usage, you won't get 100% of battery charge?
