I think I read somewhere Netflix is broken with 3.2. You could drop back to 3.1 or hang tight until the issue has been fixed.

Not true. Using my own variant of a stock 3.2 ROM (rooted, currently trying thors 3.2 kernel v3.5), it works fine with the old Asus patch and the latest Netflix 1.4.x apk.
Make sure you reboot your tab after replacing the Asus lib and setting perms to match the original .so lib. My camcorder still FCs in 3.2 like it did in 3.1, unfortunately I haven't found a fix for that. No biggie though...I can just swap the lib and reboot in minutes if I want to video record.
This worked for me with rooted 3.2

Wow. This 'patch' has been floating around some time. I remember having to do that with my Gtab to get Netflix to work. This created a problem is that was now the identity of the device, not just how Netflix identified the device. Still, I know lots of folks didn't see that as a biggie just so they could get a working Netflix app.

Thanks for the correction. I'm trying out Falcon's HC 3.2 ROM and noticed Netflix installed and opened without FC. I don't use the app but I like your solution.

(This ought to work on non rooted 3.2 acer a500 installs as well)
Awesome... Downloaded the modified v1.4.1 app, cleared cache and data for the existing installed app, and then uninstalled the existing app (note: I hadn't previously modified build.prop or changed out the libnvomx.so file). Works perfectly!
Thanks to ezterry!!
EDIT: I'm running unrooted, stock Android 3.1
Nice hack!! Thanks ezterry!
Awesome.. I just got the update to 3.2 today, removed the Netflix .so hack prior to update, and just installed this. Works perfect! Thank you for your efforts
Thanks ezterry! works great on an unrooted 3.2!
works great on stock/unrooted Android 3.2! Thanks!
Thanks! Works great after 3.2 upgrade.
Works great. Thanks for helping us get Netflix working on the A500.

This patch will replace effectively the entire media library stack with a newer version, allowing Netflix to function on Gingerbread ROMs. The patch does not contain the Netflix apk itself, just the libs to fix playback. As far as I know, the patch WILL NOT work on Froyo.
Several folks on IRC confirmed the patch works. However, I recommend a Nandroid backup before applying the patch. Worst case, you can re-install your ROM to revert the changes. No wipes or anything are needed.
Enjoy!

I love you if this works on my bamf 2 beta.

Awesomesauce! You are a gentleman and a scholar.
Running BAMF 2.0 Beta 4.01, Modded Beta 7 kernel, and flashed this zip file in recovery and installed a netflix apk i got. Works flawlessly. Tested it over 3g and wifi (4g was being wonky at the time) and works perfectly. The Other Guys looks awesome, cant wait to watch it. I resigned up for netflix just for this!
HUGE thanks to RMK for this, amazing work.

Anyone able to try this APK on a stock Iconia?
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=17409746
Curious if it will work without the patch.
Tried it on mine ... got error 12001 cannot reach netflix and have a great internet connection
drat! and double DRAT!
i know! i had big hopes for this one but I guess this means we will have to wait until at least another version comes out
Works for me. Stock 3.1 rooted. It gave the usual warning about replacing an application with a new one and saved all user data. The video looks great. Thanks.
Edit- I am such a big fat liar... I forgot about the lib patch. I changed back to the stock libnvomx.so and lost the Netflix. I didn't even realize there was a problem with the camcorder.... I promise to try to pay a little more attention in the future...

same issue for me. I even tried clearing data and starting over.
12001 error for me too
Does not work for me either, Stock Rooted A500. Same 12001 error....was hoping it might work.
I have the same problem with Netflix 1.4 and Zoom's build.prop
My A500 specs:
ROM CWM HC 3.2 from fguy
HC 3.2
Kernel: 2.6.36.3+
This is strange: I installed the 1.4 app and for me everything now seems to be working. Everything=Netflix and videocamera.
My setup: rooted stock 3.1
What I did: I had already the old Netflix working with the library patch. Installed 1.4. Tested that it works. Reverted to original library file. Tested that both Netflix and videocamera works. Really happy.
Edit: I guess this means that my setup and results are the same as JdgM3NT4L's.

The question is how did you get it working on the 3.1.there are two known methods
1. Change the lib file.this messes up video recording
2.do the Asus fix this changes build.prop files.this one video recording works.but screws up tablet info.and for me caused GPS and other tab issues.very slow digititizee
if you did neither of the two and are on a stock rom
Please post any changes or mods to your tablet.
By the way working Netflix means able to stream movies not just access there site.some are confused by this
Thanks in advance

I did method 1. But there is catch, caveat or something. I had both netflix 1.4 and camcorder working perfectly after installing 1.4 with the original lib. Out of curiosity I rebooted my tablet today to test if things would work after that. And they did not, Netflix did not work. So sorry folks, nothing to see here. I had things only temporarily working, sorry about this.
On the bright side 1.4 works with the patched lib. And I really don't use the camcorder.
Running HoneyVillain 1.1 (3.2), using the Libvnomx.so patch with the netflix 1.4 apk from this thread. Netflix works but video recording still force closes.
I took ezterry's and Dblfstr's work and modded the Netflix app.
This runs on my rooted 3.2 A500 (should work on non-rooted) and has rotation enabled, so you can watch or browse in any direction.
Let me know if it works for you.

Finally a version that works on my non-rooted 3.2 A500. Thanks so very much, awesome job.
SWEET... works for me without the patch on rooted 3.1!!! Now the question is can I live without root... I needed root for netflix and the patch and for CIFS mod... I use my CIFS occasionally but if there was a non rooted method then I wouldn't need root...
This half of my solution is great... Thanks so much for you effort OP
Awesome! Works perfect!!!
Edit: not rooted btw
Thank you! Just got my tablet yesterday. 3.2 a500 (non-rooted) and it works like a charm. Can't thank you enough.

What fails?
Probably an issue with the ROMs build.prop no longer looking like an A500 or maybe the library file has the patched version.
Can you run an md5sum on /system/lib/libnvomx.so?
Also, if you can send me the build prop I make figure out why it fails.
Here are some updates files from the Acer Iconia Tab A200 (Honeycomb 3.2.1), that seems to be a "low-cost" A500.
All files can be found here : http://vache-android.com/v1/index.php?site=files&cat=38
It's including a new Acer Ring app and lockscreen shortcuts.
It also have a new Acer Iconia Tab bootanimation.
Screenshots :
What it does not have :
-Rear Camera
-Dolby Mobile (or it's not active atm)
-Maybe other things i didn't see.
ROM based on A200 system by fguy (only for test purpose)
New lockscreen looks very nice!
Yep, there's also a shortcut to take screenshot, really usefull, and to open the app drawer. That's a nice idea from Acer.
Yay something new!
But alas, Android 4 is on the horizon. And we all know how Acer loves to update!

With the screenshot, isn't that not included in Android (unless rooted?) or implemented to use without root - I think ICS is the first one with native screenshot included?

ASUS and some other HC ROMs have had screen-shot built-in for awhile right from the factory (hold app history button down etc.) I don't think you had to be rooted, but I could be mistaken since these were custom ROMs I was using and was always rooted.
ROM Acer Iconia Tab A500 EV032_A200_0.003.00_WW_GEN1 - HC 3.2.1
Base http://vache-android.com/v1/index.php?site=files&file=119

For overclocking use kernel 3.7 http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1170319

To install only through CWM on A500
Thanks for that, will give it a go fguy.

Ah okay, my bad, didn't think they had it.
acer did good job!
A200 is 3.2.1,and A500 is only 3.2?
Is this ROM in development?
How is it functioning so far?
It does not have back camera as in the a200 does not have one / and / or this ROM does not have it?
Does anyone have a list of bugs in this ROM?
I would love to test when I get home, want to know if it's worth flashing!
PS Love the lockscreen!
Damn, I get to the Acer logo, and nothing. Just sits there.
Without having checked, I'd guess that most "H/W not working" problems are simply missing drivers (i. e. we'll have to wait for Acer to fix them or reverse-engineer existing ones -- which I'm not going to try as it tends to be one huge pain in the ___). Other than that, I guess this ROM is fairly stable with minor glitches in the UI and framework (most leaks are, I haven't tried this one).

The stuff that doesnt work seems to be because the a200 doesnt have it, ie the a200 has no rear facing camera so this rom has no rear facing camera. In a sense its missing, but for what it is the rom functions fully. I'm actually shocked to see this thread, i didnt know this was posted on XDA and found it elsewhere about a week ago and have been using it as my daily not realizing it was a leaked rom (rookie mistake not checking the thread date for the other forum that had it) and I actually like how smooth it is and feel like its just as stable as the stock a500 rom. Then again, I dont extensively push my tablet to the limit, I do my budget/check book, play around online and occasionally hook up a ps3 controller and play some SNES so maybe someone else should comment on the stability of the rom. Only problem I can find is I hear the latest market is 3.4.4 and this rom seems stuck on 1.1.0 and I cant figure out how to get the market all the other roms had(it has the market I had when I pulled this thing out of the box, not the one that came when I updated).
I got this two days ago. Somebody may be interested in seeing what is inside.

Okay so far it's def a patch to 4.0.3 but because everything is a patch as in bootloader.blob and build.prop.p and SystemUI.apk.p everything is basically a xxx.apk.p ending with a ".p" which is patch.. I'm going to try and open the build.prop which is what would tell you it is in a hex editor to see if it decrypts it

Cool, thanks for looking at this. I wonder why Acer is sending an OTA for this now.
Yeah it's just a newer version of Ice Cream Sandwich.. (Updated 4.0.3) basically all they did was updated most of the apps added some new ones in like Chrome etc.. Updated a bunch of libs and the GPS.. Looks like a newer patched recovery and bootloader as well... Nothing to special that you can't get on your own if you are posting here on XDA... Mine is running CM 10.2 so in my book I'm on the latest OTA set forth by "us" and not Acer lol....

It's interesting to see that. I heard the new 4.3 KK will help some older devices because the optimized core, but that's for those really old ones, not a dual core tab like A500. What's the reason for Acer to totally abandon A500? I do run in a lot problems even after I deleted all my apps. It just SOD for no obvious reason. And for this reason, I'm stir clear of Acer completely. I thought Acer was using the tablet market as a chance to expend their market in US but the real impact to me is it actually made me realize how bad a brand it is and I should avoid it at all cost.

Interesting. Everyone's experience is different; I for one love acer products. I have the a500 that works great. I use it everyday at work. I have two acer laptops as well. I prefer these over me Dell desktop and Samsung i7 laptop. If the acer liquid s2 ever came to the USA I would drop my Note 2 in a heart beat.
