Is it possible to change the radio on the Xperia Play? I have been having some major Wifi issues on here.. 2.3.3 breaks Wifi, and flashing 2.3.2 fixes it.. is it possible to keep 2.3.3 but 'downgrade' the radio?
If i disable data traffic at home., it appears to stay wifi connected.. weird, but a workaround for now.

Are you on the stock images, or on one of the dev's ROMs? I heard there were issues on FXP/CM7 and on FTS for a bit with one of the kernels, but I think that might have been resolved.
If you are on stock images, not sure why to tell you. You are using the R800a or which model? is it Bootloader locked and/or simlocked? (I have to ask because you don't list a model in your profile)

Generic UK 2.3.2, rooted, worked great for weeks, then OTA to 2.3.3 (xloud) and the problem comes up.. I had reverted back to 2.3.2 because of this issue before, but hoped it would resolve itself I guess.

Since I am a new member and can not post a response in the dev forum, I'm posting this here.
I'm currently on the Cm7 RC1 build, but I have updated my baseband to the newest baseband from the 2.3.3 build.
I am currently on baseband I9020XXKB1.
I have been reading in some posts about a new baseband I9020XXKB3 which is supposed to be much better. But I saw someone post about this being only for european phones ?
I was looking for some calcification on the issue.
I am on T-mobile USA, so would it be better if i updated from KB1 to KB3 or remained on KB1
Definitely KB3.
Everything looks better with this version. A must if you plan to flash Voodoo kernel to get rid of "low contrast" or yellow tint issue after upgraded to 2.3.3.
I have the same question . I I'm running now kb1. Will it be better if I use kb3???

I just updated from kb1 to kb3. Don't notice too much of a difference yet. But still I guess its nice to have the latest and greatest.
Give it a shot. Updating is as easy as flashing a zip in recovery.

flashed the KB3 baseband on cm7 RC1.
I was on the KB1 baseband and applied the KB3 baseband thru clockwork mod.
I am on t-mobile USA and I can not get a 3G connection. All I can get is an EDGE connection...
Any suggestions to obtain a 3G connection ??
Thanks

Check your APN settings in the phone's setting app? Not sure where they're at in Cyanogen, but there should be an option to check them, modify them.
Sorry New using up first 10 I dont like this new color scheme at all 2.3.3 radio on cm7 was complete difference picks up signal immediately at start and im getting 3g at my job where i wasnt before
thats KB1 T-Mo US
Same question here,
I have a T-Mobile phone with KB1, should i replace it to KB3?
Build number is GRH78C (2.3.2).
Thanks.
Okay what do I change the APN settings to ?
I also thought baseband version only affected the phones modem ?
What all does the baseband affect ?
Were can I download KB3 from i have been looking and not able to find it
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=975105
my i9020 bought in usa which is using in spain have some reboots on cm7 #11 using supercurio voodooo kernel and radio kb3 now i've changed to kb1 and seems all is ok
I don't know if radio was the problem but for the moment seems yes..
What is the radio version before kb1?
unable to update...during the process it just aborts.
Any help on this would be greatly appreciated
I still use JK8 with 2.3.3, because KB1 and KB3 has too little voice when calling.

What exactly do you mean by that ? Low earpiece volume ?
Hello guys,
what about the new KD1? I have it on my nexus 9020 after updating to 2.3.4.
Someone knows if there are some improvement in this release ?
thanks in advance.
hey, im in sweden, currently using KD1 should i use anything alse?
I was using KD1 for quite a while but I kept getting radio dumps...I've since tried the KC1 (the one that is supposedly only for Korean carriers) and found it to be far the fastest and most reliable even in low service areas. Anyone else in Canada finding the same or tried any radios that they found better?
Has anyone noticed that it is not working on KG1 and KG2?
Just realised it today and when flashed back to 2.3.3, it works again.
On 2.3.4, able to get IP from DHCP but unable to surf.
And as far as I googled, it's probably a kernel issue.
Anyone having the same issue?
working in KG1 here
It's working on my KG2 also.
Thanks guys for the replies.
Can inquire if you are using stock or custom rom?
I am using stock rom with chainfire kernel.
What perplexes me is that it work in 2.3.3 only but not 2.3.4
Even tried it the moment I do a factory reset KG1 without root but no go.
Appreciate any advice.
Try to set the security to WPA2, I think it has something to do with your APN setting or fast dormancy setting.
BTW I'm using stock KG1 firmware with no modification and portable wi-fi hotspot is my only way of connecting to the net.

Just reflashed.
Step1: KF1 (2.3.3) - Factory reset was done. Both tethered and hotspot works.
Step2: KG2 (2.3.4) - Factory reset was done before and after upgrading. Both instances, hotspot not working. Tethered works fine.
APN settings remained unchanged. Fast dormancy unchanged (this shouldn't matters in the first place).
The problem occurs only in 2.3.4. Anyone can advise?

Have you cleared your Dalvik cache and wipe cache partition before flashing KG1/2, usually what I do is wipe those cache and its partition, wipe data/factory reset, install new firmware, factory reset again. These steps will surely wipe clean your phone.
Yup.Tried them all. Even tried overlay flashing of stock roms in hope of solving it.Just couldn't solve it.
No matter. I do with wired tethered for now. Hopefully the later roms can solve this perplexing problem of mine.
Thanks for your help.

Just tested on my GX2, Stock KG2 2.3.4 ROM and rooted with CF-ROOT XXKG2 kernel. No problems.
Then can someone enlighten why is this so?
All my tests so far are with stock roms, pure Samsung bundled apps. I didn't install anything while troubleshooting!
KG1 - i9100XXKG1
KG2 - I9100XXKG2
KF1 - I9100DXKF1
Does the country code actually makes a difference?
Weird thing.
Working fine here too, just used it last night to surf around a bit.
XXKG2 2.3.4 with a kinda messed up kernel ATM

I've also had major issues with my HotSpot too, tried many different ROMS and Firmwares and nothing worked. My brother and I both have the same phone, purchased from NewEgg.com and believe it's the European model, I upgraded mine to 2.3.4 via stock at first, and the HotSpot didn't work. I can see the connection and connect, but no data is pushed through, and not all devices can connect, only certain ones. Then tried countless ROMS, and none of them work. But his HotSpot works, he is still on 2.3.3. So I can confirm issues with 2.3.4. I wonder if the Puerto Rico model would be any different.

To resolve this, you can flash any of the custom kernels here. They are build on 2.3.3 source and hotspot is working.

Working on KG5, but I have to change the user agent of firefox to mobile android OS
Not sure on that kernel but speedmod's and hellcat's works for me. It stop working the moment I use the stock kernel or chainfire's.
Hi, I too had the same issue with Hotspot, but now I fixed it!
when I was on 2.3.3 (with Org rom from my provider) Hotspot was working properly! after moved to stock 2.3.4, I couldnn't use the Hotspot option. (After activating, my data connection would come and go).
As djpianz sugested, Its got to do with your APN.
What I did is, Go to APN setting, press Menu --> Reset to defaults.
Problem was solved. (I guess If reset doesn't help ya, You need to manually define your APN, Or use Titanum backup to backup from 2.3.3 and restore to 2.3.4).
The new baseband with 2.3.3 (xloud update) cripples my Wifi at all locations (home, work, other homes). It worked perfectly in 2.3.2. Is this something I can revert back to somehow? I am currently on Generic UK, rooted, locked bootloader.
Im having exactly the same problem with my wifi randomly dropping signal mid downloads and whenever it feels like it since the 2.3.3 update. Im hoping that 2.3.4 will fix this. Mine also was perfect on 2.3.2...
Anyone know if the wifi is in the fix list of 2.3.4, or can anyone tell me if its a solid wifi experience in 2.3.4
It took me about 10 retrys to download a gameloft game yesterday due to this buggy 2.3.3 wifi which isnt good enough!

Other ROM's built on 2.3.3 that I have tried also have this problem (obviously?). I'm using CM FXP30 atm and haven't had any WiFi issues at all.
Also I cannot comment on 2.3.4 fixing the WiFi issues, but if it does then a custom rom built on 2.3.4 is win/win
If you do a nandroid backup of you 2.3.3 rom, then flash the full .tft file of the 2.3.2 rom, then format /system and use the advanced restore function in CWM to restore /system partition, you will keep the 2.3.2 radio on 2.3.3/2.3.4.

So I convinced my aunt to get the nexus 4 a while back. Unfortunatly its now not able to make calls correctly. Everything works on the phone without an issue just that There is no sound incoming or outgoing without having to put it on speaker mode (while in a call). This is a already know issue but there is not true way to fix it. We got around it by install the aplication called soundabout and unchecking something about the headphones. That got It to work... for a while. Now it is not working and am going to have to have to downgrade it back to 4.2.1? I read that was the only way. But I wanted to find a real solution. Or at least a reason as to why it happens to maybe figure out a solution?
Are you on 4.2.2? If so, you need your radio baseband upgraded to .48.
If that's not the case, then it could be a hardware issue.

there are a few ways to fix this. technically its not broken, they want you to use the newest baseband/radio, since it disables lte. easiest way is to flash the .48 radio, which was already stated. there is also a method that involves editing a certain file(found in the original dev threads).

When she brings me the phone ill have a look at it. Thank you for the replies. Ill probably upgrade her baseband seeing as how she doesnt need lte. I flashed the 4.2.2 images available on the google developers website. All of them. Do those images comes with the baseband that is needed? It came with the radio, recovery, and a few other things... I forgot.

Just downgraded from 4.3 to 4.2.2 and I have got rid of the bluetooth problems I was having.. I.e. Could not use my handsfree system in my car... Proving that Sony / Google completely screwed up the.bluetooth stack... Muppets.. Have either of them ever heard of regression testing?
It would appear not!!!!!!

how hard is it to downgrade back to 4.2.2 from 4.3? I'm running stock no root.

But if go to 257 and then to 534 if you don't want to use 257 or want to root 257.
If you go 534 from 290 you'll lose IMEI

Thanks for posting up about it. Until now, I hadn't heard of anyone actually trying the downgrade to confirm it fixes the problem. Would you be willing to contact Sony directly about it to make sure they know about it? We know two firmwares since 290 have been certified, but they haven't been released and we don't know the changes. It would suck for Sony to push new firmware and not fix this.

It's not hard - just get a copy of the FTF you want from the mega-thread and a copy of flashtool. There are tutorials on how to flash if you can't figure it out. However, since you're downgrading, you'll lose all your data (you must wipe data, or 257 won't boot).
I just went from 290 to 257.. Just copied everything I wanted from my phone to my pc, did the flash then a factory reset and then copied everything back.. Bit of a chore as I had to restore all of my apps etc but worth it to get the handsfree working again.. Still can't believe that Sony and or Google have screwed the bluetooth up so much.. I hate apple but they seen to make it work across their devices and various versions of ios...
not only the bluetooth, the whole fw is acting out.. slowing down, ram is filling too fast and apps don't remain in memory...
also my wifi seems less stable, on .257 the bars "seemed" lower but i was connected at all times, now i have 3 bars, but connection drops all the time...
Try different 290 fw - you can flash other regions as well.
My bluetooth us working great, wifi is better and all apps and features is working without any problems.
Try generic or something similar - that's not gereral problem.

When you say your bluetooth is working great - does it connect to your car audio and let you make hands-free calls?
