Thank you. I found that htcgreader app but I don't want to delete it for now since I think I know what app was triggering it. it was the stock News app. so for now I am using a different News app from Market place.

I wouldn´t remove apps just rename then. Cause Acer looks for the apps when you want to update. Then you get massive problems - just have a look to a lot of topics here...

youre almost better off using PM (android package manager) in a terminal or adb shell to disable or freeze the apps you dont want. you can also do this in apps like titanium backup.
this way, you're not renaming files and later forgetting to name them back to the original files, and it'll keep your 'frozen' settings after updates.

There's advantages to freezing/disabling apps using Titanium Backup or Package Manager (built into Android system). The first one is that its built-in function and you do not have to alter filenames and have to remember to rename them back later. Secondly, I don't think it affects what apps show up in the market place. Some apps require special permissions from certain things like PHONE or CAMERA, etc. If you disable it, I believe it won't affect the marketplace, however if you rename the file, the system doesnt think its there period and will think your tablet is incompatible with the apps.
note: this really only applies to people who are renaming phone.apk, etc.

Did you check in system/app? If it's not there it is probably named something different. You can use Titanium Backup to find PEN.UP then press on it and it will tell you the actual name and where to find it.

Ever since updating my Nexus 5 to Android 5.0, I've found that you can't manage startup. I tried Clean Master, Autostarts, and Autorun Manager, but none of them works.
Please assist me in finding a solution. Thanks.
Anybody? Well, can the "Autorun" in the thread title be changed to "Startup" at least?

you can use app ops, the lastest version can do that
Do you mean the one by Lars Team? I just tried that, but disabling an autostart doesn't stick, it's enabled again when I recheck.

you can use this app to remove the permissions and it does not require root too..
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.gmail.heagoo.apkpermremover&hl=es_419
Does that manage startup entries? Doesn't look like it, and App Ops seem to manage permissions fine.
Greenify?

You can remove the unnecessary permissions like boot with the phone...
Greenify is an option, but I'd rather not depend on another running process... Oh well, have to make do with it for now.
Just tried APK Permission Remover. It requires you to uninstall, then reinstall the app. Too much trouble keeping up-to-date.
Simply deactivate the app.

Just flash Pie Patch
you should just flash the pie patch via recovery, it solves a lot of the problems root apps have in lollipop, including the startup one

Hello
I want to uninstall and remove and spotify app which came pre-installed with the phone. I am using S8 on Rogers network in Canada. Any help would be much appreciated.
Thanks
Have you tried disabling the apps you don't need? If you haven't, then long press on the shortcut and pick "app info". There you will find disable button(if not grayed out). That is the easiest way off turning off the app which won't show in your apps anymore, but it won't uninstall it.

However, I have my own apk and wouldn't install saying the system already have file with same name. I can disable but it will not solve my problem. Any work around or ways to remove the preinstalled spotify files?

I have not tried it personally, but check this tread: https://forum.xda-developers.com/android/software/debloater-remove-carrier-bloat-t2998294 There could also be other methods/apps that would help.
Try clearing app data than uninstall updates, this can be found in settings/apps.

Go to apps then click Spotify then click storage then clear data and cache.
If you want to remove the pre installed version you need to be rooted to remove system apps.
The all you have will be the same as the one pre installed. You can always download an updated version.

Not if its a hacked version of Spotify.
I see no reason why someone would disable the included Spotify app to load "their own version"
The included app can be updated right from the google play store, so there is no reason someone should be uninstalling it to install a .apk version.
I am on a Rogers S8, so I know this is true.

But the problem is - after doing this, the phone restarts and erase everything again and installs all the carrier apps. Is there anyway this can be stopped?

Check out this XDA article. It details instructions to remove apps/packages without root, using ADB. Be super careful doing this or using a package disabler app Like BK Package Disabler or Adhell (which is free)...if you disable the wrong system package you may end up disabling important functions/features.
https://www.xda-developers.com/uninstall-carrier-oem-bloatware-without-root-access/
What you can do is only disable it. That's what I'm doing with texture also and zone. Don't flash XAC if you are still a Rogers user you will loose wificall and Volte.
Only time you can remove it completely is to root. (Not available)
Or flash the XAC but modify the feature file in XAC to add the lines to enable wifi call and Volte. And again not possible cause there is no root yet.
So it takes you back to the 1rst and only option and don't try any even when they claim it uninstall without root(it does not work with Samsung phones )
Just disable it "I think you know how hold the app icon and you see a popup to disable"
If you rebooted the phone , app will not show to show it back enable it again .
When any app is disabled you can't download the app it will tell you it's available unless if it's a higher version.
So if for some reason you want to have a clone " exemple disable original Spotify to download a cracked ) use apk unpacker and change the signature name on the cracked apk.
