For some reason, I can't use Visionary+ to temp root my MyTouch 4G that came stock with the 2.3.4 Gingerbread OS, and the PD15IMG.zip isn't reverting the software.
Has this been figured out already? I'd really like to get Sense off.

So I know that you can use the universal androot app to root the MT3G 32b. I did it and installed CM6. I didn't like it, so I flashed the original 1.5 image, successfully unrooting. I then received my ota 1.6 update and I'm back to normal.
However, I really miss two things from when I was rooted: the wifi tether app and being able to bring my clock up to 528 mHz (where it belongs). I am considering using androot to enable these two functions (and not flash a ROM, but stick with stock).
My question is this: when/if tmobile ever pushes that promised 2.2 update, will I be able to get it, or will I need to flash sappimg.npg again to totally unroot? I remember that when I had androot on there before, even when I clicked unroot, the superuser permissions icon stayed in the app drawer. I just want to do these two things on stock 1.6 and still be able to receive any potential future firmware OTAs by clicking "unroot" when the OTA is pushed out. Like I said, I'm not interested in flashing a ROM, just rocking stock 1.6 with an overclocked processor and wifi tethering enabled.
Anyone know if that will work okay?
Thanks!
That should work, you just might have to re-run and root after the update. Word on the streets is that the 2.2 update will never come thoughts I wouldn't hold my breath.

This is the Canadian version but Rogers is rolling out 2.1 this week

Well that kinda sucks, considering Tmo spent the time and $ to send out a communication to all us MT3G users saying we weren't going to be left behind.
So I guess I can root (with androot) and then when (if) word of a 2.1 or 2.2 update starts spreading I can click to unroot and receive it?
Thanks again.
Should still be able to use the "update" option from the settings menu. It should still work unless you flash a custom ROM that wont allow you to.

You're in the same boat I am. I tried CM5 and CM6 but both were too slow and unstable for me, so I unrooted and used Universal Androot so I could overclock. I'm actually pretty satisfied with this, but still thinking about trying a couple of other ROMs.

Did this stock 2.1 version ever become available for flashing? I'd really prefer to flash this on my friend's 32B than any of the custom ROMs. It's very unnecessary for her and she's just looking for stability.
[Also, is this even possible? I think I read somewhere that Rogers is 32A only]
I'm pretty sure the Rogers update is over in the development section for download. You can read there whether its 32A or 32B.

You'll need to get root, then you can use K`Tag's method from here to flash back a mostly stock 1.6 Fender ROM. The problem is that the original Fender ROM was never released, so a couple of guys got together and made one that is mostly like the original. So, we just need to get you rooted. Run SuperOneClick again, copy the log, dump it to pastebin, and drop the link here. I'll take a look at it and we'll go from there.
Easiest way to root a mytouch 4g with 2.3.4 I just did the over the air update.

There is no easy way if you did the OTA update. There's no currently known way to root the mt4g if you went up to 2.3.4.
You'll have to downgrade back to Froyo if you want to get root, and then you can upgrade to a different rom with gingerbread, but it won't be the stock rom.
I'm not sure if you can downgrade if you didn't have root before either, but I think there might be. I'll post the link up in a bit if I can find it.

Yeah, it's not easy, but if you didn't have root access before you upgraded this is about all you can do.
Bump
Hope we can get some ppl on this mine was rooted before update after store update s is off still but visionary loads black screen

Donate to the root devs?
So WHO does work on these things, such as finding a way to root 2.3.4? I suppose if a bunch of Glacier owners pitch in a few bones, it might result in us getting a root solution sooner. That is, for those who don't want to downgrade. I'd rather keep the stock ROM. If I wanted to donate, where to go?
pd
There is a rooted version of the stock ROM. You just have to downgrade to get rooted.
Long story short: finally updated myTouch 4G to Gingerbread 2.3 and loved it. However, USB Port is loose and I can't charge it, battery died, and now my phone is pretty much a really expensive paperweight until I get it fixed/sent in/whatever.
In the meantime, I dug out my old myTouch 3G Slide. It's currently running 2.1, and I know it can be upgraded to Froyo via the HTC website. However, can I upgrade this to 2.3 yet? Tried searching, but only found root/Cyanogen-related results. This phone isn't rooted, have no interest in rooting either.
Now that you have myTouch 4G, might as well root your 3G to give you more functionality and that Gingerbread. The rooting process shouldn't be that bad if you follow everything step by step.
The latest releases of CM7 is 2.3.5 based and running very smooth on the Slide. If you don't want to root. you can only go to 2.2 official.
Is there a more up-to-date root guide for the MT3GS? Noticed a couple things were dated. Having problems with adb (when I type adb devices, shows my serial number but says it's offline) and I don't have "sqlite_stmt_journals" in my tools folder, I have "sqlite3".
I've done 7 Slides using this method, works flawlessly as long as you are not updated to the official 2.2.

I'm a moron, lol. Rooted and about to flash CM7 now. Thanks!
No problem, glad I could help. Enjoy it.
Make sure you download and install the correct version of Gapps for your Google apps or they will not be there.

You sure? I've only seen 2.3.4 on Cyanogen
The nightlies are based off 2.3.5, yes I'm sure unless my phone is lying to me about what version it is running.
I rooted and installed CyanogenMod7.1 and it says 2.3.3
Nightlies they said. You're running the stable.

Is there any method of getting a TEMPORARY root for the A500/A501 while running HC 3.2.1?
I want to be able to use Titanium to back everything up but not to change the ROM space and prevent the ICS update from happening. I guess I'm looking for something like Visionary for Froyo on the HTC Desire but I appreciate that ship has long since sailed.
