you'll probably still get updates but not be able to install them - or not advisable to install usually

Can you pull the market.aks and the maps.apk for the rest of us?

the only .apk is phonesky.apk and the odex file. the rest are patch files and i dont know if they are complete .apks
If you've installed the update, just go to system/app and you can pull the updated apks from there.
I think the market apk is called finsky or something funny like that.

once i revert to stock and update. i will reroot and then pull the files...
i want to test universal root with the new update
ah just got the update too
I just got the update too!!!
I am rooted, so that doesn't seem to matter. I copied it to my SD card instead of installing it. Not sure how to now install it, or if I should even try on a rooted Xoom
Just got it too. This patch doesn't touch the boot - but does patch system apps and the framework.
From what I can tell... you don't need to unroot, but for the patch to work - you'll only need the stock system (stock 321).
For me - that means restoring the stock 321 framework.
I'd also over-written the wpa_supplicant - but this doesn't touch that - so I can leave it.
Should leave you at version at 3.2.1 - but ups the build to 75d.
As I also got it.. I'll let you know...
apk for the new market anyone?
Was going to post some pics when I got home but seems like the news spread all over. Will put up pics if asked to. Just tell me what to take it of.
FYI -- if you are on stock rooted 3.2.1 (HTK55D), this might work to update you: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=17981519&postcount=98

Mine is rooted with the Universal Xoom Root, and this update threw an error when I tried to install it. I think that I still have it unlock, if that may make a difference.

Well, relocking it made it unbootable. I had to unlock it again to boot, but now I have to set it up again.
Is there a good How-To for restoring it to stock? (including the stock image)
Edit:
I used ClockworkMod to try and install the update, and at least it gives me the error:
Code:
assert failed: getprop("ro.product.device") == "wingray"

I tried to install the new update on my Hero. I was rooted with the universal root program. During install my phone freezes and i get an !. I unrooted with the same program and I still get the same thing. My wife's stock hero installed just fine. When I try to install again it says the download is corrupt and asks me to re-download it. I've tried it several time with the same result. Any suggestions?
I had to re-install the old update from htc.com to get back to factory. I then updated to new one OTA, but now I can't root it anymore. I was using the universalandroot also and it won't root again. I'm going to try a different root method and hopefully it works.
I think I might know why your downloads are classified as corrupt.
If you used Regaw's root method http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=694572 towards the bottom there is a section called
"DISABLE OTA UPDATES!!!!"

you just need to undo it by using mv to rename the file otacerts file back to the original name
I don't think that's it. Cause I didn't use that method. I read somewhere on here that if you've removed/uninstalled some of the sprint apps, then it's not going to update because the update involves updating one or more of those apps. When the update doesn't find those apps, it fails.

Maybe that's my issue. I did get rid of some of the stock apps I don't use.
Does anyone know what stock apps may have been updated with this? The only one I can think of would be peep. Is there a place I could get that .apk to reinstall and try to update again?

I used Regaw's method, is it mandatory to get this OTA?

It's not mandatory to get it, but i want to eliminate the dialer lag. I think if I just reinstall the stock apps I could to the OTA update.

No its not. Your phone will still work just fine without it. But if you do want to incorporate the new fixes, install nfinitefx's new .7 ROM that has all the fixes/updates in it, and you won't lose root this way either.

Hey guys. I know that there is an available atrix update, but I don't want to update. Att keeps sending me annoying messages to update. How do I get this to stop?

It's easy to block the update if you don't want to lose root and also want to get rid of the annoying messages.
Just rename the otacerts.zip and cacerts.bks certs in system/etc/security.
The update will download (you must let it download), but fail the auth check and not install.
This also turns off the reminder notifications.
Easily reversible if you want to get updates later.

I have the same problem. It tells me I don't have permission to rename the files when I try. And I can't find them using my PC.

NVM. AS I POST THIS, Root explorer has decided to kick ass and rename it when I click the "Mount R/w" button at the top.

Try my method if you're rooted. Works! I haven't got any prompts about doing anything after freezing the apps.

this just happened recently ... I can't download anything from market .... all I get it this message (error processing purchase) .....
can anyone help?? any ideas?? note that I have 3.1 rooted rom on iconia a500
This seems to happen a lot with the 3.2.0 version of the market. There are a few methods to fix it:
1) Remove your account from your tablet, and then reboot and re-add your account. This sometimes works with some people,
2) If that doesn't work, it could be an issue with the 3.2.0 version. You can try and remove it and install 3.1.6 - Here is a link with some instructions: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1284647
Thank you very much , but do you know how to uninstall the existing market ?? It wont let me

The link provided tells you how too. You don't really uninstall the old one. You just replace the vending.apk file and reboot your tablet. Make sure you do a backup first though!
I had a problem due to my own stupidity. I updated Civato mix with a one of his newer roms. I screwed market and despite several tries with various advice found in these forums I wound up installing Vending.apk and Finsky.apk.
I followed the usual instructions for a normal vending replacement.
Worked fine.
I discovered Finsky.apk was also being removed when attempting to delete Market via Titanium backup.
After successfully getting my root and android market working, I would like to make sure that my fire does not update itself and i lose all of my hard work. What is the easiest way to make sure that I will not recieve ota updates? I have seen some people recommend droidwall, are there any other options?
Thanks in advance.

but how do i use all of my kindle services such as streaming and such.
you get one or the other. I would not expect a lot of updates from Amazon, but you never know.
Can you re-register at any time after you deregister?
Get the Voodoo OTA Rootkeeper from the market (too new to post links, but not a noob). You can temp unroot to use the Amazon services and reroot. If an OTA update gets pushed and installed, you can still reroot.
rooting/unrooting has nothing to do with registering/unregistering the device at amazon and the root status will not have any impact on ota updates.
unregistering will prevent the update allthrough i used an other solution (worked for me):
i deleted /system/etc/security/cacerts.zip - watched the update downloading to the cache folder but did not install - after a reboot the update file was disappeared from the cache folder
was registered all the time
Which file to delete?
Question. My system folder/etc/security has two files and the cacerts file is a .bks file not.zip. The other file is otacerts.zip. Which one should I delete to prevent the update?

New Android ver. 4.1 installed but I made mistake and uninstalled Netflix app. I tried to download new version of Netflix but system said it was already installed so it won't download it for me. Apparently, when I uninstalled Netflix it took out the app but didn't delete it from some app table or internal index that Android uses. How do I overcome this problem?

I'll take a wild guess that the Netflix app came with your tab pre-installed? If this is the case, it more than likely is located in /System/App. So to remove it, you will have to root your device, and get system RW access. Otherwise, it and the rest of the pre-installed bloat apps, will be there forever more.

I got lucky and found, I'm not sure how, a down-loadable new version for 4.01 that didn't have a problem with replacing the old version, if it was actually still there. So I am back in business. Thanks for taking the time to help. I'm lucky because I do not have any idea how to root the device.
