DroidX rooted, original Moto ROM, LauncherPro+
Going from Verizon to PagePlus I have limited Mobile Network access and it's on the meter, so obviously I'll mostly use WiFi.
But how do I turn Broadband ON and OFF on the DroidX? Settings>Wireless>Mobile Networks just gives me "System Select", a choice of CDMA system: Home only or Automatic.
Gave this suggestion to someone else for something similar - see if that helps you.

On my Cingular 8125 I don't have the option to select which tower to connect to. I'd like to be able to select between Cingular Orange and Cingular Blue as Blue has a much better signal at my office. I was able to do this on my Motorolla v551 and it worked great.
But when I go to Settings --> Phone --> Network, there's only a "Find Network" button and I don't have the option to choose which network it actually connects to.
I know the Network tab has network selection features (they've displayed for me a couple times when I was on business travel roaming), they just seem to be hidden when I'm in my home calling area.
Any tips on a reg DWORD I can flip or something to enable network selection?
Unless you have a pre-2002 simcard you won't be able to select any network that isn't already added in the network list.
My friend has a 2125 with pretty much the exact same plan... signed up same time as me, got SIM card same time as me... why would he be able to select networks and not me?
I still think there's gotta be a software solution. :-/
I upgraded my 8125's ROM to the 2.17 version and now I have network select. Also I have a 3G sim card.
I'm on 2.17 as well, and I do NOT have these options! This is a real problem as I have no signal at home or work! I need to be able to select the old ATT tower in this area (which has perfect signal!!)
Someone block the SIM from doing this to us all please!
Not sure if this is the correct forum but I want to be able to turn of roaming completely. I have a US G1 on the three UK network with the US RC33 installed and root. I have disabled data roaming. Here in the UK we're too small a country to want to roam! Coverage is usually good enough from a single network. However, I occasionally get the little 'R' symbol on the single strength icon and an annoying prompt saying I need to turn data roaming on because I lost connectivity. I have to go into the settings and manually select the "3" network again.
What I want is to either be connected to three UK or not connected to anything at all. Is there a config file I can edit to allow this? Would the UK RC8 firmware do this for me?
Thanks in advance for any help.
Doesn't a 3-UK SIM try to roam onto O2 though?
You could set the phone WCDMA only and NOT roam onto a GSM network.
Use AnyCut to shorcut Activity: Phone Info
From there under preferred Network Type; set to "WCDMA Only"
HELP!! Roaming signal won't go away
I have an unlocked G1, JF1.41 v 1.1 and i just updated to the RC33...but this also happened when i had RC30 , v 1.0...
I put in my canadian Fido sim card and everything works fine but i have that little "R" on top of my signal strength bar...
I think this means its data roaming? if this is the case...it should be okay (even though its going to bother me) because my service provider says my EDGE/Data is disabled (i do not have a data plan, NOR do i wish to incur any data charges.. i'm fine with my free WIFI ) .
However, if this means im roaming on another network, i dont want to be incuring any long distance charges on my phone EVEN when im using my own FIDO network..
I went to settings - about phone - status, and here are my specs (some of them):
Network: Fido
Network Type: EDGE
Service state: In service
Roaming: Roaming
Data Access: Disconnected
i'm pretty much just concerned about the ROAMING part of it... my other friends with G1's are with rogers, don't have that little R..
how do i get rid of that?? please and thanks!
Try manually changing the network in Settings>Wireless controls>Mobile networks>Operator selection
G1, like all GSM phones, will roam onto networks specified on the SIM if it can get a better signal. As long as the relevant operator has a roaming agreement in place, there's nothing to be concerned about, other than the R symbol in the status bar.
Mod: move this over to General discussion please.
I did change it and selected my Fido network (it's the only network available).
Thanks. I've set it to WCDMA only so I'll see how it goes.
Please help??? i still have that little R on top!
After I got home I found my phone had lost its connection. It didn't seem to be searching for the network. I had to go into settings, search for networks and then select three again. Is there any way to control if the phone does a search for networks automatically?
Looks like it reconnects to three on its own after a while. I still get the annoying popup about turning on data roaming though

As has been previously mentioned, Three will "roam" onto another network if it goes out of Three's own 3G network coverage because Three does not run its own 2G network.
However, it isn't O2 anymore, it is Orange as of late 2006/2007. I *believe* that you won't be charged any more if you use data whilst "roaming" on Orange, so whilst you are in the UK it is quite safe to allow data roaming, but I would be inclined to check this with Three.

Dave
I have an unlocked Defy from T-Mobile USA that I'm using with my AT&T service, but I'm only getting EDGE wherever I go, no UMTS at all, and I've even heard of people getting it to run on HSPA bands. I know already that HSPA is available everywhere from my home to my workplace, thanks to my Atrix 4G. I've rooted the Defy and it's running Cyanogenmod 7 latest. Any help would be greatly appreciated, as I can find nothing on this forum or on Google to remedy the issue.
You should try to change the freq via baseband switcher. And restart.
Maybe you got the "2g only" checked in networks settings..uncheck that.
Settings >Wireless & networks > Mobile networks
You can also put automatic(2G and 3G) mode in GSM/UMTS network preferences.
Thanks for the reply Viper. I just noticed the baseband is set to some central Europe nonsense. Should I change it to one of the T-Mobile USA band settings? There's nothing there for AT&T.
Edit: I changed the baseband to US T-Mobile 3.Something, whichever was latest. 2G only was not checked. I'm still getting 2G only. Could it be my APN settings? Could I copy the APNs from my Atrix?
I'm having a problem with my AT&T connection as well, but I've been using my phone unlocked on the network since March with no problem. I'm new to modding, but OCD about streamlining my electronics. My friend suggested rooting my device and flashing a new ROM. I decided on stock Nordic Froyo, and it makes me so happy not to see all the T-mobile crap in my apps tray.
BUT the collateral damage is not so hot. I have no 3g or even 2g connection anymore. I tried the fix in this thread http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=944258 and was able to get a signal with 4 bars instead of the previous state of emergency calls only, but no letters like E or 3g and no ability to use the internet/transfer data. I also installed the broadband switcher in this thread http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1052745 and tried all of the T-mobile US bands. No luck. I did rest the APN to default. No change. I've been using wifi, but will have to go back to work soon. Not having access to the smart part of my smartphone will feel sort of like having an arm cut off.
I'm not sure what to do next. I could try flashing another ROM, but from what I've read in the forums, that's no guarantee.
If anyone has any suggestions to help a noob, I'd be forever grateful.
Thanks in advance!
Thanks for the link, halah. Do I apply this as an update.zip from recovery? Or install?
Never mind, it won't work for me, for whatever reason.
Just installed the LiquidSmooth and Do not have any problem with WiFi but there is no mobile network. There is a line that indicates that emergency calls can be made..........just not sure what an emergency call might be.
Cannot obtain an "Available network" without any results. Tried to go "Automatic registration" but phone just keeps looking and then gives up.
In "Mobile network settings": "Data roaming" and National data roaming" are both checked. "Network Mode" is LTE/CDMA/EvDo. "System select" is Auto: Domestic Roaming. "CDMA subscription is RUIM/SIM. "Access Point Names" are zero. "Network operators" searching under WiFi but finding nothing. "Searching networks" indicates Error....."Choose automatically" provides nothing.
Used Rom Manager and did the fix permissions.
Status does not indicate phone number and all network items are without information. MEID number is correct.
Download lte switch from play store if that doesnt flash a tw based rom and dial ##72786# to reprovision your device aosp roms are weird if u mess around in that menu

LTE/3G Data are apparently fine, "mobile network not available" when dialing phone
Sorry, it's very hard to search for my specific symptoms "mobile network not available voice problem data good" ?
LTE and 3G data seem to work (I don't know if LTE light being on implicitly also has 3G). Phone won't voice dial if LTE on. Phone WILL dial and work if only 3G is on.
If LTE is active, and I voice dial I get something like "mobile network not available". If I force the phone into 3G only, the phone will dial fine and the voice calling works normally.
Provider: Sprint
Model Number: Samsung Mega GT-I9205,
ROM is Cyanogen 11-20141019-UNOFFICIAL-meliusltexx
Baseband Version: L600VPUANA7
Kernel Version: 3.4.0-cyanogenmod-g06ce5ec
Now I did have to use the "Phone Info" app to get the wireless data working and I selected "LTE/CDMA auto (PRL)" as the Preferred Network Type. I also had to use the "Root Tweaker" to get rid of another annoying error message which I forgot, something about "No APN on this phone" something like that. I chose "Cyanogenmod APNS list" from the Root Tweaker App.
Any ideas for a fix?
I got an international version SM-G900i from Amazon. I have an ATT sim card. The text and phone calls work fine but I could not get any data roaming. Though from other posts I got the data roaming, I was not able to set onto the ATT 3G/2G network in the network operator selection. My network is always shown as Maritime. Does anybody know why this happens and ways to change it?
Thanks a lot.

I tried configure the APN setting based on a link online for ATT APN. Now I am losing signals even for calls and texts....I think there might be other things that are wrong...
Error message for no ATT service
Tried different variety of ATT APN setting. Still could not get it to work....the phone shows a signal but gave me an error message that Selected network(AT&T) not available

I'm not sure what did you mean by "data roaming"??
Anyway, the problem for now is no network register. The APN settings will NOT affect at this step, so not not try to mess up with it right now.
Try to get into Settings > More networks > Mobile networks, and set Network mode to Auto connect, and Network operator > Select automatically.
That may help the device to register on the Home network.
Problem solved....or maybe not but it is working!

Okay. Thanks. I switched it back to the auto-selection mode. By data roaming....I mean 3G data. My phone is working now. I checked ATT billing usage report, it did not increase the data usage dramatically so I guess everything is fine.

Glad that your phone works now.
BTW "data roaming" and "3G data" are different things. "data roaming" is "3G data" when you are roaming to another network (not your home network).
