Hey guys what is up. I'm just wandering.. my Droid is brand new. Got it 2 days ago. Today I had to recharge my battery twice. I did use it a lot... so that may be it.. and when I didn't use it the battery life stayed the same for as long as I didn't touch the phone. Is my battery good? I got the app that tells me the temperature and everything. The hottest was 112F. It says my battery health is "good health". Will my phone hold a charge for a longer period of time after it has been charged then drained... and repeated. Does it just need to be broken in? Thanks for reading this whole essay I wrote you guys.. Haha. Well thank you so much again... and if you can please get back to me as soon as possible that would be great!

You should really search a little bit before you post. There are COUNTLESS threads on battery life.
Your best bet, until HTC fixes it, is to charge until the phone says you're at 100%, then turn it off and charge until the LED turns green. Charging and discharging really won't affect anything - their is no "memory" with their batteries.
Okay, thanks for the quick response. I appreciate it. Sorry. I should've read.. I was just a bit anxious. My apologies.

You could always trying running one of Hydra's Kernels as well. I don't know if anyone has gained better battery life because of doing so... I use his kernels for the features.

What is that? Do I get it in the app store? My battery is getting pretty warm now.. even when I touch my screen I feel it.

Check Settings > About phone > Battery and make sure up time and awake time aren't the same.
If they are the same, it means something is keeping your phone awake when the screen goes off, which drains battery.
I just got my Droid Incredible a few days ago too, and I knew coming into it that the battery life has issues from a lot of users, but man, it really sucks!
I have it fully charged at 8am, and by 3:30 (with very moderate use), it's already at 20%. I've disabled everything I can (WiFi, Bluetooth, GPS, live wallpaper, installed ATK and keep my tasks at none, etc), and still the same.
I really love the phone (it's amazing other than battery), but the battery life is such a big deal for me that I am really thinking about returning it and waiting for the Samsung Fascinate to come (hopefully sooner than later). Thankfully I have until Aug 30 to call Verizon and return the phone... i sure hope the Fascinate gets a definite release date by then.
I'm going to try the full charge + phone off + charge again to see if that improves things, but other than that, does anyone recommend the Seidio 1750mAh battery or the HTC Touch Pro2 OEM (1500 mAh) battery? Does it make that much of a difference?
I read the findings on batteryboss.org, and it appears that the TP2 battery was better but the Seidio battery they tested was a used one, so it wasn't a fair comparison.
Any thoughts/help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks.
Loose atk....and read. I get a full 18 plus hours and I don't bump charge. Lots of info out there

I purchased a 2150 mah battery from verizon and i can say I wont be having battery issues.. that is one option, but you wont find a case that fits your phone, that is the only downfall
I was just reading reports about the new Facebook app...looks like they are working on that fix if you use that and it is causing a battery drain
http://www.androidcentral.com/facebook-confirms-battery-drain-latest-android-update
Uninstall the 1.3.0 facebook app RIGHT AWAY if you downloaded it. That destroyed my battery life yesterday and I have never had battery problems with my DInc.
You can just use the regular HTC Facebook app until an update is released for the facebook for android.
Try it without the new facebook for a day and see if it changes.
If you don't have the facebook app then just make sure bluetooth, gps, wifi are off when you aren't using them. I recommend trying bump charging but I've never personally and my phone lasts about 26-28 hours+ with mild to heavy usage depending on the day.

Thanks for the replies..I don't use Facebook so that wouldn't be my problem.
I think ATK is good.. I mean I don't have it on auto so I sometimes just kill all tasks and I have noticed any decrease from the already poor battery performance.

Ionno what it is but I'm running froyo 2.2 n I Thot this issue would be addressed but still nothing.. I'm hoping the VZW push will address it... I get decent battery life when I charge fully then turn off then plug back in til light turns green but its a pain in the ass to do dat.. I believe my awake time is like 3-4 hrs with an uptime of like 18-19 hrs

I have a Sedio 1750, which I bump charge every morning, and UltimateJuice set to turn on APN every 5 min for 30 sec or until data transfer is done. WiFi is used whenever possible and otherwise turned off.
I easily make it through the day and have battery to spare with moderate to heavy use.
All the battery life horror stories make me wonder what everyone is doing differently. Haha

You might want to recalibrate your battery. I am getting much better life on gingerbread. Definitely do not use a task killer. Android is designed to keep the programs you use most in memory and drop the ones that aren't. Even the ones on memory won't be using much power.

I also noticed the keypad lights stay on considerably longer (and brighter too?). Can it possibly be assisted adjusted?

We just updated my wife's DX to the Gingerbread OTA this morning. (We are running stock)
My wife showed me that her battery was down to about 40% today, when normally she is around 70% by the end of the day.
I don't have CWM on her phone (if I should be resetting data as mentioned above).
Is her battery draining faster, or is it just a battery recalibration issue?
If we need to recalibrate, what should we do without CWM?
Thanks ...

The battery is likely draining faster. It's an issue discussed by many others. I have questionable battery issues following the upgrade. My usage patterns haven't changed, but my battery life seems slightly worse. Moto is aware and hopefully will fix relatively soon.

Yes, and so far the suggestions revolve around disabling any sort of syncing/polling apps, turning down screen brightness, turning off 3G radio and living life with only WiFi, doing a factory reset, and a few others. Some believe it's a 3G signal issue and the radio bumping the power to compensate. I'm betting on this as the phone does get quite a bit warmer when using the 3G radio. Realistically, the only real solution will come from Moto when the issue is fixed.
Motorola claims the DroidX has 480 minutes talk time and 220 hours standby!
http://www.motorola.com/Consumers/U...s/Mobile-Phones/ci.Motorola-DROID-X-US-EN.alt
Anyone here get anything remotely close to those times?
Sent from my unrooted DroidX using XDA App
Definitely not since the GB update. Might have been able to get that before if you remove all widgets, syncing/pushing apps, and only turn the screen on to dial a phone number.
On a side note, I broke down and bought the extended battery and I seem to be getting worse battery life now than before Time to exchange it or get my money back.
I am experiencing the same fast drainage and excessive heat. I am more than ready for a fix & root.

Just updated to 2.3.3 today and my battery is doing a lot better than on froyo. im unrooted
I was having a similar issue with the battery draining and the phone feeling warmer that usual after I first updated. I fired up OSMonitor and found that there was a motorola service running nonstop at like 20% CPU usage. Found out it was trying to sync my exchange account but couldn't connect. I manually went in to the mail app and refreshed; it sync'd my account and the problem was solved. Great battery life ever since.
Don't know if this is a similar issue that other people are having, but hopefully it helps someone.
I had the same problem (battery would drain in a few hours and the phone would get very hot) and could not determine the problem.
After a few days I tried the "Droid Factory Reset"
under: Reset instructions for DROID X on 2.3 Gingerbread Android:
motorola-global-portal dot custhelp dot com/app/answers/detail/a_id/48517/~/droid-x---factory-data-reset
It worked. The battery life went back to what it had been before the update, or at least to something similar. Of course, all the data and apps were wiped.... but it was a perfect trade off for having a phone that worked once again.
Just waiting for the Gingerbread OTA Root!
funny, cause when i go through privacy to factory data reset and get all the way to the final button to erase everything...the damn button does nothing. Doesnt work.
it's fine cause i can just boot into android recovery and do it there, but wtf.
this OTA GB has been pretty bad thus far. lots of lost functionality such as extended controls / power control widget, task killer widgets...none of them work.

I'll start by saying that the attached pictures say it all folks.
I'm simply at a complete loss as to how my phone can be so awake ALL the time.
If anybody could give me ANY insight as to why it might be the case, I'd REALLY appreciate it.
Also, I can post my alarmdump.txt if anybody wants to see it.
Again, any and ALL help would be greatly appreciated. Feel free to ask me for any more info that might be of use in diagnosing the problem.
That NYC map app seems to be the culprit. As well as the Google Search widget, for some reason.
Uninstall the app, remove the widget, reboot and see if it's much better

im also curious about modem fastdormancy... i froze it because it was a wakelock culprit, but am getting really fast battery drain as well. not sure exactly what modem fastdormancy does tho
http://groups.google.com/group/android-platform/browse_thread/thread/9cb9c3e94da63110?pli=1
So basically, Modem Fast Dormancy = do not freeze. In my understanding, it has to do with the radio and disabling it when not in use, or something to that affect. I haven't studied it, but that's a quick 10 second synopsis from reading that article. I would stay away from disabling it.

Yup bro this is exactly it.
It might be good battery life- but I'm not using my phone at all.
After unfreezing Modem Fastdormancy I've definitely got less unexplained blue in the "awake" time graph. I also froze ADW and that seemed to help.
Thing is, there is still lot of mysterious chunks when my phone is awake.
BetterBatteryStats says Alarm Manager and Event Log services are to blame (top two- represent a substantial percentage of the partial wakelocks and thus time awake).
I'm about to terminal emulator dumpsys my alarmdump.txt, but is there a similar solution for Event Log Services that will allow me to see EXACTLY what's putting it at the top? Only clue it gives is that it's apparently "Google Services."
Past that I've got no clue what it's pointing to.
If I get the Event Log Services fixed, I'd venture to say that would solve a LOT of problems for me.
Thank you guys for everything so far. You laid out some really good and interesting ideas- ones that I definitely wouldn't have thought of.
I'm very, very appreciative, and if it's not too much trouble, bros, KEEP IT COMING!

Quick question bros:
If I get my alarm manager dump, will that have any or all of the things contributing to the Event Log Services wakelock?
Like I've been saying, it looks like all I need to solve this is some breakdown of the Event Log Services to see what's putting it at the top.

I honestly always had battery issues with cm7 keeping the phone awake. I switched back to Alien ROM an now my battery life is back to normal, around 42hours. I also saw great improvement when I uninstalled Watchdog while I was on cm7 and so thus I have never reinstalled it again.
Well,
Due to this post I checked my Atrix and saw that it wont go to sleep as well, and stay practically always awake. I started using AntTek App manager to freeze some apps that worked all the time (mainly Facebook and an israeli VOD app) and the phone started to go in sleep. I dont know how it will affect the battery life (which is about 16 hours from 100% to ~5%, with data always open), but I will test it for now and report once I have some news...
BTW Im running CM7-Ba2tF, with faux123 enhanced 1.0 Ghz Kernel, and UV.
I'm currently running 2.4.6 along with nyan colonel 4 but so far I'm not too pleased; I'm getting about 5-6 hours with medium use on a 1800 mAh battery.
Try turning off 3G (mobile data) when not in use. I was getting 6-7hrs w/ it on & now I can squeeze out 12-15hrs. However I left it alone it went 30 some odd hrs w/ only 30mins of screen time though.

Nuh uh, that's not gonna fly in this thread. I shouldn't have to be turning off my data to get any semblance of decent battery life. I really do want to get this to work though; I love MIUI. Unfortunately it seems the GB version will never be complete as everyone jumped ship to ICS and the ICS version is awesome but seems to get crap battery life even on 4.0.4
you dont HAVE to turn your data off....but if you wanna save some battery that is one of the best ways. if your phone is in your pocket and you dont need it, why have it on suckin juice....try juice defender, i use it with any rom i run and it helps...play with uv in nstools, just dont go too crazy with it.

Uh lol? He just gave you the best tip and you turned it down, you must not be interested in improving battery life, if you're constantly using data and have over 2hrs of screen time you're asking for crappy battery life, and unless you are always receiving important emails, you really don't have a reason to run it 24/7, if you're to lazy to turn it on and off, just use juicedefender, and it'll do it for you. You'll have to make some sort of sacrifice, whether it be monetary or personal. Phone usage is everything, get a bigger battery. Also, logging out of social networking apps when you aren't using them helps as well. I find I have very nice battery life on MIUIgb

Sorry dude but that's the wrong question to ask. By now u should know that every phone is different if its what kernel to use & what setting to use this or that app than its simple trial and error. Alright.. well I misunderstood, it mighta been better to include that in op but it's whatever now lol, I'm using shadowkernel MIUI, and... 100-800Mhz governorndemand, schedular: Sio. It seems that the battery drain on my newest N7 (RMA'd first one) is waay worse than on the other, I'll attach some screen shots of what I mean.. it may be just the WiFi is using a lot more than the other's :S I left it 4 hours alone with WiFi and the battery drained 20+ % which even with WiFi on seems excessive does it not? Is it possible I got one with a faulty WiFi radio? I will be testing tomorrow (or maybe tonight) to see battery drain with WiFi turned off to compare, because it also seemed to drain fast when I was just out and about with WiFi off :/ worried I have bad battery, deep sleep isn't working right (it is going into deep sleep or at least thinks it is from looking at cpuspy), or faulty WiFi... or just too early to judge XD has anyone noticed battery improve over time ? I forget if I did was a month ago I got the original
BTW first screen shot was taken pretty much right as I was leaving for work, so you can compare the battery drain there..

I doubt it's a bad wifi radio, its probably an app that is syncing like crazy in the background.
I'm currently watching the MediaServer app use a disproportionate amount of battery (14% and rising). I deleted a number of images which must of kicked in the scanner which must be very inefficient.
I also noticed my N7 become very slow at the same time.
Possibly you downloaded a large amount of images/music/etc before putting your device to sleep...

I really wish I could figure out why maps keeps starting a process.. can you check to see how many instances of maps there are ? In particular one running Prefetcherservice.. as for the other comment, media server is sitting at 6%, android is at 14%, and screen at 67%.. though I did copy a bunch of songs and pictures over after the RMA, is there a way to fix these or should I delete them to see if it gets better ?

Bahaha good one I dunno, the problem is that this is literally my fourth N7 since the other three allll suffered from major screen lifting, so maybe I am looking for something wrong just so i can make sure it's perfect... Though I do think the battery life is pretty weak, I think I may have figured SOMETHING out, the only difference between this and my original is that my original had a huge section of the map of my area downloaded, and since I did that maps hasn't started any additional processes.. so good sign ? maybe ? haha

Though I do think the battery life is pretty weak, I think I may have figured SOMETHING out, the only difference between this and my original is that my original had a huge section of the map of my area downloaded, and since I did that maps hasn't started any additional processes.. so good sign ? maybe ? haha

Yeah this might be a good time to stop looking for trouble and just enjoy the tablet for a while. I drop mine on the charger in the morning and don't ever really think about the battery other than that. Whatever the battery stats say now they won't say in a week and they won't say after you flash to a different ROM. If you have wifi on apps will sync and the tablet will loose it's charge. I'm never far enough away from an outlet to make it much of a concern. So maybe just take a breather, install the Angry Birds and have some fun for a bit. Eventually we'll have ROM's and kernels that make this thing sip electricity but for now I get the few hours a day I need out of it on one charge so I'm set.

You think the battery life will get much better than what it is? My only other android experience is my HTC Desire Z which has a horrible battery as it is so it didn't improve much at all with custom roms
Speaking of improved life through ROMs and kernels, have you noticed any kernel providing particularly better battery life ? I'm on trinity right now, no voltage changing, but underclocked to 1.1 ghz from 1.3
Factory reset, see if the problem continues. That's the only way decide if it's a HW problem.
And my N7 uses effectively 0% battery in standby, it was off the charger yesterday for 6 hours and when I started playing around it was still at 99%. I turn off wifi on screen off, however.
Use http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1179809 to find out what's waking up your phone, the apk is in the second post. Install, charge it up, unplug, leave for 4 hours idle then look at partial wakelocks and alarms.
I saved quite a bit of standby time by disabling location services and Facebook.
If your not using nfc that could save battery?

^ do that
I used Better Battery Stats to figure out Google Maps was causing wakelocks. I cleared data in the maps app and now my 7 idles without much battery drain at all.

Haha I actually just read your post in the kernel thread about this and immediately cleared map data, now I'm about to unplug and see what happens!

:good:
If that doesnt work for you, Better Battery Stats should be able to tell you what app is causing the drain.

Well, left it for an hour on standby with wifi on, 0% drain, let's see how rest of day goes !

So it seems like partial wakelock is mostly audioout_2 which i assume comes from me playing a game with music amongst other things?
Alarms says com.google.android.googlequicksearchbox has 50 wakeups, and maps has 38 :S why does maps keep trying to kill me?! and what is the googlequicksearchbox doing waking the tablet up...
Wlan_Rx_wake seems to be the culprit of semi bad battery. Is there a way to prevent the tablet from waking up all the time? Maybe just unsync or turn off WiFi instead?

When my battery drain was bad I had something like 250+ wakeups from maps under the alarms section in only a few hours off the charger and Maps was showing up as the most common reason for partial wakelocks.
I think AudioOut_2 is normal - Im not sure what it does though. Im now at 8+ hours of standby with 99% battery. Under alarms im showing 138 Maps wakeups and 76 from google quick search box. My drain is all gone now though so i assume this is within normal range. The better battery stats thread and a few other threads on XDA have detailed descriptions of the different battery draining wakelocks and possible remedies. Not all wakelocks are bad though.
