Like many of you, I am not rushing to update to 3.2. Not until we get root, anyway.
Instead, I decided to try a couple of the Acer Iconia ROMs available from Tabletroms.com.
I am currently running Virtuous Galaxy 1.0.6 - and I am liking it very much. One of the things I didn't enjoy about version 1.0.5 is that I was never able to pair and use a bluetooth keyboard with it. That is no longer a problem with 1.0.6. Not only that, Netflix just works. No modifications needed. Front and back cameras work as well as the rear camcorder.
I've also noticed superior battery life with this ROM. Yesterday I used it for about 4 hours straight with both wifi and bluetooth enabled, keyboard paired, etc and only had about 25% battery loss. Since that time, I have used it intermittently and this morning - 24 hours later - the battery is at 60%.
The only real bug I have noticed is with shutdown. Long pressing the power button immediately shuts it down, no shut down menu. But after the last buzz, the screen remains back lit. So I have to hold the power button down until the tablet is completely powered down. A work around is to use LiGux Tools as the shutdown tool.
There is also a 1.0.7 version which I have not tried - the initial welcome screen is in Russian. But from there you can change it to the language of your choice.
Falcon Galaxy is another nice ROM - it's basically a combo of Acer stock along with the Samsung Touchwiz interface.

I believe you may have misunderstood. The power down sequence never offered up a shutdown confirmation window. Short press put it to sleep. Long press should bring up the shutdown window. In this case that never happened. I could only power down by holding the power button until it completely shut down - or use a shut down widget.
I've moved onto Primee p9-5a, so the problem is long gone.

It WILL shut down completely if you wait. I tried this ROM, and I know it shuts down, and I know what you are talking about. Try turning off all the lights and in the dark, turn the tablet off, then black backlit is still on. Wait for maybe 20 seconds (not really sure, I haven't measured it..), or at most 40 seconds. The black lit will be off too. Then you can turn on again normally.
I think Samsung made it like that to make people believe that the tablet turns off right away, instead of like other tablets or phones, waiting for everything to finish up and turn off. But actually, they don't turn off that fast either, because the back lit is still on, and still processing until the tablet completely shuts down.
I love the Virtuous Galaxy Rom too, and I really hope fguy can make one with Acer's Android 3.2, and the Touchwiz from Samsung, just like Falcon Galaxy, but with Android 3.2, not 3.1.

Thanks for clarifying. Ligux Shut down tool is a good alternative though. It provides a full set of shut down options including reboot into recovery.
Deleted double post.
hey i found a way to root the acer, i was running 3.2 stock and i figured how to down grade super easy to 3.0.1 and then update and its going to automatically take u to 3.1 once in 3.1 root and bam! ready to go!

In all the 2.2 updates my camera button is turning on my screen. you barely press the camera button and the screen comes on. Is it the rom or is it maybe my camera button is loose which presses so easily and is there a way to lock the button when the screen is off.? any help would be great.
I think it's a problem with some of the froyo roms. I've experienced this issue as well as at least a few others so I'm sure the rom chef wizards will fix it soon enough.(if it isn't already)

Yea, I tested out the froyo roms and the new features and style are amazing. But until there are custom kernels and an official release ill stick with the overclock and battery life plentiful 2.1

I was seeing this problem as well while my USB cable was connected to the computer. I disconnected the cable and the problem went away. You have to wait a bit after you turn off the phone (a few seconds) before you test with the camera button.

Test some more. I thought the same thing.
it's the buggy 2.2 releases that are plagued with this.
Such is life eh ?
I am just curious to see if anyone with the new dock is NOT having any issues...
Asus, hope you're listening...
I see no poll, and no, none D:
I was typing!
Seriously, though, no issues? No wireless drops, no keyboard stopping working, no battery with a ? or anything?
Which firmware are you using?
Did you do a factory restore?
Did you do an update?
Did you do any of the OTA updates?
(Is that enough questions??)

I use wireless all the time between home and campus, no factory restore, both OTA updates then rooted and flashed with PRIME! v1.1 and blob V5. I've used my friends dock with it for about a day since he doesnt have his tab yet and I have had 2 disconnects in about 30 hours.
Everyone is having these problems, even the review units they sent out a month ago.

Looks, however, can be deceiving. We plugged a USB stick into the side of the Eee Pad's dock and nothing happened. We swapped it for another USB drive, we tried the other port, and nothing continued to happen. We jacked in an SD card and still got no response. It was only after a complete reboot of the tablet that those ports magically began functioning, but that wasn't the only issue we experienced with the docking solution. On multiple occasions, the Eee Pad wouldn't recognize the connection or disconnection between itself and its peripheral part, resulting in it either ignoring our input on the dock or expecting the physical keyboard to still be attached and consequently refusing to offer a software text input method.

Dock Issues
As impressed as I was with the fact that ASUS took a tablet OS and made it work in both the tablet and notebook worlds, the Eee Pad Transformer dock isn't without its issues. As I alluded to before, there are times when the dock simply doesn't work. I'll be using the dock, scrolling around or typing and then all of the sudden the keyboard and trackpad stop working altogether. Sometimes the solution is as simple as undocking and redocking the Eee Pad, but other times it requires a full reboot. It's frustrating.

ASUS knew all about these issues prior to release (US release, anyway). Anyone who read the prerelease reviews knew of the problems, because all of the trustworthy reviewers mentioned them. I still preordered because I thought the hold up on US sales was because they were fixing these issues. But they didn't fix anything! They are knowingly selling lemons.
I love my Transformer and I love most ASUS products that I own but the dock is total piece of crap they should have delayed the release of.
no issues yet, but i've only really used it for maybe 45 min. i'll put some more work on it later tonight and see if any issues creep up.
Yeah, don't get too happy too fast.
I was actually typing a post here giving my impressions of the dock and one of my lines was, "I haven't run into any of the issues with locking up that others have been experiencing."
Let's just say I had to go back and delete that line (and finish my post with the touchscreen!)
Also all the issues are as far as I can tell software issues not hardware issues which means firmware updates can fix em. Asus also told anand the firmware updates are on their way.

just google anand transformer review and you get it. The review states all the issues but also states asus telling them they are aware of the issues and are going to release a firmware update.
I'm not noticing any issues with mine. I'm using Prime v1.2 custom ROM. At first when I got the keyboard dock I had what I thought were some weird problems. Turns out I just wasn't pushing the tablet all the way in to the dock before I locked it. I didnt realize it because it seemed to fall into where I was putting it, and the lock would slide about half way over- i thought that was just as far as it goes.
Anyone having troube- I recommend double checking that you are firmly pushing your tablet in to the dock with the lock slider in the unlocked position. Then make sure you are able to slide the lock slider all the way to the right (fully locked position).
If you're already doing that, then I suppose you really do have a problem- hopefully it is software related and not hardware.
My dock is *almost* usable with the trackpad disabled.. Still likes to shut down on it's own (it's getting a shutdown key.. which is funny considering that's not a key on the dock.. actually says "shutting down" then shuts down.. or wifi turns off..
With the trackpad enabled, it crashes/hangs within a few minutes. (usually requires holding down the power button for 10 seconds to fix..)
Curious - what's everyone's dock model #?
Go to settings / about tablet, and scroll to the buttom. Mine is EP101-0207 and it doesn't work right.. Are there any different versions out there?

Would be nice if people voting waited a couple of days of normal usage before answering the poll. I would bet a fair amount of money that quite a few people will vote "No problems" and then the problem will show up for them 8 hours later. A lot of the people having these issues are starting out with no problems and then seeing the problem and then seeing it get progressively worse.

After recent update, within 24hrs, my transformer has frozen completely three times. This is where I have to hold down the power 10+ sec and turn the unit back on. One time, about 40min watching a video via hbogo website. One playing a game (walkabout) and another time, just playing mp3 from the main screen via a widget.
Has anyone else experience this? Never happened on prior firmware versions.
Keyboard flash problem
I don't know if this can help: after firmware upgrade my browser crash if i try to tipe something in a flash animation, keyboard isn't show and then crash.
Exactly the same experience here: with 3.01 I had no problems at all; since OTA update 3.1 two days ago 'sleep of death' (shutdown in sleep mode) all the time!
Very annoying, according to other threads/ forums SOD was SOLVED for couple of guys with 3.1 update - I just received my SOD with 3.1!
Thanks Asus; I do hope someone/ somewhere is working on a fix!
In the meanwhile: any help/ solution for SOD (except downgrading/ rooting) would be very wellcome!

Same here with some Apps. MyLibrary was working fine on a pdf, now it freezes and crash all the time. Impossible to read anything anymore.
Battery seems to be drained faster too.
Since I have gotten the update the tablet is very sluggish. It was perfect before. I had no light bleed and it was very smooth. Now I have a ton of light bleed and it is so sluggish it almost takes 4 mins to connect to the internet. Anyone know the customer support number?

software has nothing to do with your hardware screen showing more lightbleed, other than if the brightnessis higher which may show it better.

I don't disagree, but the fact is that I didn't see it before now it is terrible. I thought I had a "good one". Oh well.
In general last update has improved performance, allows more variety ( file types) in video streaming from my server, slightly better browser performance and slightly better wifi reception, however I have noticed a few lock ups that were not there before last update. Long Power button hold required to recover.
I'm having the freeze problem in Firefox after the update. it will work for a bit, but some sites will cause the tablet to lock up and I have to do the power off reboot. The stock browser is working fine.
On another forum they were saying it's pure superstition, but..: turning OFF the auto brightness has prevented sleep of death on my Transformer (SODs since update 3.1) allready about a day!
I know people say it's nonsense, but for anyone else struggling with auto shutdown in sleep mode problem; give it a try!

I've had four freezes, all in Press Reader tablet edition, and was thinking they were related to that app specifically, but maybe not. Reason being, my wife got her first freeze last night playing angry birds.
My freezes in Press Reader are not caused by the update, though, as two of them happened before the update was released. Also, I've discovered though that it is only the UI that is freezing, because on one freeze I had internet radio playing, and it kept playing for multiple minutes after the UI for froze.

Can't speak to the other people, but I'm not trying because it's such a [email protected]*dy hassle to do a factory reset, when there's no way to back everything up in one go without root access.
Backup is definitely a major shortcoming of Android.

Try changing the rom and kernel. The Netformer kernel seems the fastest and smoothest. I had the screen freezes also. Running Clem's v3rom for 8.4.4.11 then flashed the Netformer over instead of using Clem's kernel.

We're not talking sleep of death here, we're talking lockups while the tablet is active. Totally different issue, or at least totally different symptom.

.. & I'm just not sure if i should return it or if these issues are pretty much whats expected.
I have not upgraded to ICS from HC
Problems so far:
1. Re-booted twice on first day i had it. I'd been using it all day (installing/using apps etc) - I used it all day 2 days after that w/out issue.
2. Re-booted last night? Not sure exactly but there were no apps suspended in the bg from the night before (~8 hours before) - i had quite a few in the bg
3. 2 out of 3 times so far if i "shut down" *the power button will not power it back on* - i have to plug it into the wall/power for it to turn back on
They aren't the worst issues..yet? I don't know.. I'm pretty happy with HC at the moment & will probly avoid ICS upgrade for a bit.
Stick with it?
#3 is not supposed to happen.
#1 and #2, it depends on exactly which version of the Honeycomb firmwares you are running. Honeycomb 3.2.1 didn't do those for me, but the versions pre-3.2.1 had occasional incidents.
It's 3.2.1
We can assume that you know that you have to hold the button down for three seconds to power it on when it's completely off. Therefore, I would see about swapping it because #3 sounds like a major problem.

Yeah i just shut it down again and it would not come on until plugging into the wall. Problem seems pretty consistent. Ugh i really don't want to have to go through this.
QUESTION: how can i pretty much wipe this device of the apps/personal info i've entered into it before sending it back?
QUESTION: Try ICS then if i'm gonna ship it back anyways?
To wipe the device, you run "Factory Reset Data" in the Settings.
Sure, might as well try out ICS if you're curious.
Sometimes when mine gets a random reboot/shutdown I have to hold the power button down for about 10 seconds to turn it on. Try this if you haven't already.
yeah the power button issue may be it not being totally shut off, so when you hold power you are shutting it down instead of starting it. happened to me a few times so figured it was worth a mention.
Thanks for the suggestions guys. Although it's a bit inconsistent on whether or not i have to hold it down for 3 seconds or 10+ one way or another (after a struggle) it does appear to consistently come up. Emphasis on struggle though.
Have you tried any custom roms yet? I personally seem to have a more stable tablet when using a custom rom due to the various tweaks and fixes.

This thing decided to re-boot randomly again. So i decided to upgrade to ICS (4.0.3) - nearing last ditch efforts.
Problems came up right away:
1. Browser having strange connectivity issues? I have Wifi Analyzer and watching the scrolling graph i don't see any dropping or problems with the connection itself. So i'm not sure what the situation is but sometimes it just doesn't want to load pages - I can't fully say if Dolphin has the same problems or not.
2. Screen tearing. Fairly frequently there's a diagonal tear occurring across the screen, when switching around in/out of apps.
3. The shutdown issue. This problem is at best the same, if not worse. So in hopes of shrugging off the other issues i did a "shut down" and i seriously battled with the power button and never got it to come back up w/out plugging into into the wall.
- What's interesting is how it always comes up RIGHT AWAY once it's plugged into the wall. I tried and tried and tried again with holding the power button 3-10-20-30+ seconds random intervals nothing worked. Hard to express the amount of times & different timings i tried.
So i'm gonna give it a whirl like this for a while and see.. i might end up doing a factory reset .. if problems persist after that it's going back to newegg
Edit: i just tried to play a youtube video and it stopped trying to cache 1/4th through it.. then i pulled up Aljazeea live and it's echoing/choking/stalling .. these problems didn't exist prior. Also, i noticed another streaming (scanner radio) app not doing so well earlier too... heh

Do a factory reset already and test it without installing any apps. You need to find out whether the problem is with hardware or software.
There's a good chance that it's a hardware problem since you got it refurbished. Maybe it was broken already and Asus didn't completely fix it.
Do yourself a favor. Root it and install the latest CM9 build. I was having all kinds of reboot and sleep issues with the stock ROM, mainly the ICS one but a few issues with HC as well. CM9 has been rock solid for me so far.

CM9 might not suit him, so instead he should try out several roms until he finds one hes satisfied with
Telling him to install a specific rom is fine, but it doesnt really help him out.
That said, since you brought up "rock solid", Team EOS build 19 has been really rock solid for me. Currently 202h uptime and counting.
Wow i didn't think things could get much worse but they did.
I decided to do a factory reset because generally things hadn't improved. Initially after the reset things were "OK" ("better" @ 1st but short lived)
Then a while later..
It appears the connectivity of the wireless has completely died. It will connect to wireless fine but is incapable of anything beyond that. No web pages, no connectivity/data transfer in any apps.
I did another factory reset, installed nothing, imported nothing, signed into nothing.. same issue.
Even though i have 2 other netbooks right here w/no issues at all, i tried resetting the AP multiple times. No diff.
Just before the wifi dying it was acting like it was before the reset, where things would randomly fail to stay connected, videos wouldn't fully cache, web pages wouldn't fully load etc. (general connectivity problems that didn't exist in HC, but have in ICS since update)
I think ICS was really the nail in the coffin for this thing.
So I've heard a lot of people reported that after the Jelly Bean update their devices got a lot of problems (like constantly reboot, can't connect wifi,...) some even want to go back to ICS.
So please list your issues here that you notice AFTER the update and DID NOT notice when you were in ICS . This will hep other people make their decisions on weather update or not.
Only thing I've noticed that might be considered as a bug is that, now when I connect to dock and move the cursor around the launcher, the cursor has less framerate...

Rear camera
Hello!
My first experience with JB, was that my "rear" camera became messed up. The camera itself seemed to work (focus, zoom, shooting etc.). When saving/rendering, however, every 2-3 images became solid green or what looked like "double exposed" with distorted colours. I shot some pictures only a few days before the rollout, and the pictures were just fine. The front camera was OK.
After having read a few threads about tips on how to do a FW upgrade in general, I ended up doing a factory reset. After that the camera now seems to work fine; I have shot about 15-20 images without issues.
Another detail when it comes to the camera; the nice, little shutter animation is gone under JB.
I am on the WW-version (Sweden), stock ROM, no ROOT - so nothing strange. I got JB OTA friday 2012-08-24.

Random reboots here, even led me to factory reset just in case, but n this morning it has happened again, seems to be connected to when the screen sleeps but really cant tell.
Not a HUGE issue but somewhat annoying. Still better than ICS

Same problem with mine. It has started doing a reboot and sometimes even a "sleep of death", where it won't turn on after it's gone to sleep and I have to hold the power button in for some time. I had no problems before JB.
Mine cant detect the external sd...both micro sd and full sd are not readable...
Usb however works fine...
At first I had a boot-loop causes by EZoverclock,.. so make sure before you update to unintstall ezoverclock.
After factory reset (I know now that it was possible to uninstall ezoverclock during boot-loop:silly, cold booted...
i reinstalled my apps, and found that MX-Player doens´t support hardware decoding with 1080p MKV files anymore! (Worked with ICS!)
I can only selected the software rendering. Going to try other players now, but hardware decoding seems a problem with JB.
I also can´t get Nova Launcher to work. Not with normal installation(error -24 during installation) and also not as a system app.(app crashes)
anyone else with same problems ?
I've had a few application crashes that whilst I can't say is because of JB, I don't think they happened (or as often) with ICS.
wifi is working but it has a problem with the dns servers. had to manualy correct this problem to get on the internet again. No problems on my laptop thats also wireless.

Here the same issue,
when i am using sleep timeout (30s, 1m, 2m, 5m). But only when i connect the keyboard!
When the keyboard is not connected the screen times out just fine.
When the keyboard is connected, I use sleep never... for now.

Same Issue with mine ...
As I use the device in a learning environment I prefer it to sleep now and again, preventing battery drain. It seems I cannot use that for now.
I have sent technical request to Asus. Awaiting their response.

try under Asus setting 'mobile dock power saving mode' and see if that changes anything.
I think if it is not checked, then the tablet will stay awake if on the dock and not closed.
(General statement)
Baffles me why any one who is rooted would try to force the OTA. Just be patient. You'll get an update via ROM.
For those who didn't wait and are now complaining about the end result, you should have read up on what an OTA could do to your device and waited.
have nothing on either sd card internal or external
i wiped everything
and started from bare bones
not one problem

no issues at all. It's been rich solid for me and way better than ICS. Current up time is going on 132 hours (prior to that it was like 7 days and I only had to "reboot"cause the stinking battery died) with pretty much constant use. I keep it on performance mode 24/7 and its fast fast fast (although I do notice it is slower than my Samsung Galaxy S3 which is running CM10 and overclocked). Practically everyone that touches it comments on how fast it is...

The answer from ASUS
Thank you for your email.
From your email I understand that the Eeepad isn’t working correctly after the update. This is very inconvenient and shouldn’t be the case.
i advise you to reset the Eeepad and to check the firmware if there is another new update.
You can reset the Eeepad by switching the device off. Once the device has been shut off, you push the volume minus button and the power button at the same time. As soon as you see something appear in the screen, you push the volume plus. This will reset your device. Please back up your data first, because a reset will remove all data which you have installed yourself.
After this, you can update the firmware. You can update the firmware via: Settings --> About tablet --> Firmware update.
If the solutions which are written above didn’t solve the problem, please contact us again.
I don't think this solves the issue, as I can not see any new firmware when I check now. Then again I am doubting whether a factory reset will solve it. Anybody tried a factory reset after the JB upgrade ?
Applied the blob from the website. Guys, is it just me or the sound volume is now much much lower? I'm talking especially about headphones, I have to raise the volume much higher to get the same sound as on ICS.
