Users that have installed the Official 2.3.4/2.3.5 on their S2's, has the yellow tint alleviated in any way? Provide your responses on this thread!
I have asked this same question on other threads (i.e. Display problem/yellowish left side) but looks like this question is off-topic for those threads and I am not even getting the appropriate response.
I am currently running 2.3.3 (unrooted) and the yellow tint is still there. Apparently, the yellow is tint is a drawback of SAMOLED+. Many have claimed that by installing later firmware, the yellow virtually disappears. I need some assurance here because this tint is seriously below my expectations for such a premium device. I'm sure most of you are also in the same dilemma.
i cant say for 2.3.5 because i havent flashed it (i'm on Cognition 1.5.1) but i CAN say that i DID have the yellowish left side but what FIXED it for me was the Voodoo Screen Dev app by supercurio
i think its actually listed on the market as "Screen Tuning dev channel"
there's a thread in the dev section somewhere
but once i installed this app and changed between the "native' profile and "Samsung" profile, the yellowish tint disappeared for me
100% sure i HAD the yellow tint and im 100% sure its gone
Easiest way for me to see it was pulling down the notification bar - or on any grey backgrounds
But im pretty sure you need to use a custom kernal that supports the profile settings. I'm using Ninphetamine 2.1.3 but i remember installing SpeedMOD kernal and i saw the yellow tint again
THIS IS JUST MY OBSERVATIONS
im not entirely sure if this works for everyone , but it did for me
so good luck
recap:
I'm running
ROM: Cognition 1.5.1 (2.3.4)
Kernal: Ninphetamine 2.1.3
App: "Screen Tuning dev channel" on "Samsung" profile setting
Left side yellow tint is gone
Used to be there on KH4, On 2.3.5 it has disappeared.
Interesting,
I don't want to void my warranty, is going by the above safe?
Also, I do see a slight whitish discoloration on the top right display. When applying the yellow-fix is the whole whole screen calibrated or is it only the area on the left where majority are facing this yellow-tint issue?
Thanks again.
Why don't you update your phone through Kies like I've told you in the previous thread? Like I said, the '2.3.4' update fixes the yellow tint

No yellow tint on 2.3.3 2.3.4 2.3.5
jje
No yellow tint on 2.3.4 2.3.5 for me
No yellow tint in all the roms that I tested.
mine no yellow tint so far on Leo2.7, but yes, camera pink spot still there..
I had this problem, fixed by going into display settings -> screen mode -> change from movie to standard.
2.3.4 is not available in my region yet, and looks like 2.3.5 will be available directly when released according the company
Those that have unofficially flashed into different ROMs must have had yellow tint before. Yellow tint exists on all devices which are shipped out from samsungs factory. if you have not rooted and loaded an unofficial rom then yellow most likely exists. some devices display the yellow very prominently whereas others don't because that area is overlayed with darker hues.
i have a funny feeling the company is actively working on this and making sure it doesn't happen to their successive displays

None here ^_^..... Very fast!!!! 4000 quadrant wooohh!
2.3.4 removes yellow tint as well as as 2.3.5.
Sorry but this is absolute rubbish. I have not, and many others have not, got or had yellow tint. People can bang on all they like about it, but just because you have it does not mean I have. I HAVEN'T. Deal with it, because it's not going to change. Yours is faulty. END OF.

If that's the case, MAY I REQUEST you to POST A PICTURE of your phone with the notifications area or gray background displayed. AFAIK, only one user managed to prove he did not have an faked up display. The rest of the owners that have claimed they did not have yellow tint FAILED to post up a snapshot proving themselves. I don't want to sound intrusive or anything, but this is an issue that encourages every XDA user that owns an S2 to look into. This is not a joke. Thank you.
Apparently, all of you are claiming no yellow tint, may I please request to those that can--upload a picture displaying your notifications area / grey background on your phone with (10%, 20%, 50%, and 100% brightness). thanks
No we won't and why should we, none of us have had yellow tint. You got what is possibly a faulty phone contact your nearest samsung sc if you are still having problems.

well i had yellow tint on stock india firmware 2.3.3 but then on 2.3.4 (KH3) it was gone n its not present on 2.3.5 KI3 also
There's a large handful of folks having this issue; a lot "were" having yellow tint (check out this thread! http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1079444) until they updated their firmware to 2.3.4/5.
The issue doesn't lie in the hardware of my phone; it is more because of the software used to to calibrate the screens. the algorithms are not set right for particular batches at samsung's number of factories.
i went through three replacements and first two were not severely yellow, as a matter of fact, i thought my second to last replacement was perfect until the next day, there was a vertical line that wouldn't go away, coincidentally that vertical line was in the same area where many reported seeing yellow tint.
btw, asking to take a picture was a small request, this is a community, thank you

Anyone having the "Blue Tint" problem? it happens when i am on the lowest brightness level and i open up the gmail app the white has a bluish tint. I went to the tmobile store and they exchanged my phone because the display model displayed perfect white when set at the lowest brightness and the gmail app was opened. some euro galaxy s users are also reporting of a blue tint problem when displaying whites. Any one experiencing this?

I've got the same issue. I just figured it was a product of the SAMOLED screen, but I guess I'll swing by the T-Mob store tomorrow and see what's up.
I thought it was a little strange that the Gmail client opened and the tint changed a bit. I also figured it was just something that happens with the SAMOLED.
Please give us an update after you stop by the T-mo store.
Yep its blue here too. I sorta thought it was a bit odd, but figured oh well it sure is easy on the eyes thou.
Can you provide an example?

uhh, that's not normal?
When my wife first saw the screen she said there was a blue tint to it but I wasn't able to see it. But now that others are seeing it too, maybe it is a problem.
Here's what I did... I downloaded one of those flashlight apps that turns your entire screen white. I then did a screen shot with Shoot Me app (for root users).
Then I compared the screen shot with the actual screen and took a picture of it.
I'm not sure if this is a good enough experiment since color settings on my monitor can be different but here is a pic for you guys nonetheless.
The Vibrant color temperature appears to be running hot at about 7800K. There should be a way to adjust the color temperature somewhere.
Someone posted about this in the i9000 section.

Seems like it's an SAMOLED issue, but if others have seen demo phones that appear 'warmer', maybe it's not.
Just got back from my trip to the T-Mob store and played with the demo model and 2 reps personal phones any they all have the same issue. I'm going to chalk it up to it being part of the SAMOLED technology and ignore it. It doesn't bother me at all, but if it was a small group that had the issue, I would have exchanged my phone.

This very interesting because I did recognize the blue tint on my phone as well, however my girlfriends phone has a soft yellow tint.
I'm curious what is causing this to happen.
(I remember on the iphones, the old ones had a blue clear tint, while the newer screens had the very same soft yellow tint to it. I know they are two very different screen technology, but it's interesting that I'm seeing it again, except on two of the same batch of phones. I checked the boxes and they are from the same, "litter.")
Anyone find out how we can adjust the color temp on our phones?
I guess, Samsung just averaged this tint. Since blue amoleds with time degrade faster then others, the things will be better at some point and end up with yellow tint several years from now.

I took a picture with my Canon 5D...if you look up at the very top at the black strip that goes across where the notifications show up, you can see the color difference.
If you look closely at the picture you can tell the left is blue and the right is yellow.
IT'S MUCH MORE NOTICEABLE IN WITH THE NAKED EYE.
Any thoughts?

First and foremost, I wouldn't call it a "problem," as the thread indicates. It just is what it is and does no harm...
Anyhow here's some pictures I took of the four Vibrants I have. You can definitely see the contrast now. My phone is #4 on far right. Ice cold blue eh? or actually blue flame kelvin hot! It looks like my HID's on my car and the yellow on the other phones look like my stock yellow oem headlights...
Something I noticed today while reading through comments on Endgadget is that every time I would scroll down (or up), the tint would turn more blue as it scrolled. Release my finger from the screen, and the tint would "snap" back to yellow.
The difference in tint is very subtle, but once I caught onto it, I found it distracting.
I cant say I'm able to replicate this behavior on other websites. Google News and NYT, for example, are fine. Furthermore, I'm not seeing it in the XDA app, Gmail, or the Market.
My overall screen brightness is set to 0 and my browser brightness is also at 0.
Anyone else seeing this?
I have an iphone 3G in hand next to my Vibrant. The iphone's browser clearly has a very neutral white, whereas the Samsung presents whites as very blue-green and much dimmer. I have mine set to auto-bright levels. How do you change the browser's brightness independently?

Probably the case. Now I'm wondering if it's a setting in the software or if it's a physical LED characteristic?

I can replicate this issue on XDA via the brower on any brightness setting. The screen's slight blue (cool) tint becomes yellowy (warm) when I hold my finger on the page or scroll. Additionally, images become noticeably distorted during the hold-tap, so I assume low quality cache images are being generated for smoother scrolling, and the color temperature is accidentally changed as well.
This would appear to be an issue that software fixes may be able to counter (if any of this is indeed a hardware issue in the first place).
I had my Epic since august and now im starting to notice redish tint on all white pages.
I know that Voodoo kernel adds red to blue tint screens for those that was lucky to get blue tint screens to compansate for blue wear out.
Is it possible for someone to make a kernel with blue tint to compensate for pages appearing with red tint?something like cool temperature setting on tv's for those of us that are experiencing blue color degrigation.
Or is this covered under warranty?Sht is deffinetly noticable my google page appears light beige color instead of white and thats with maximum brightness, when brightness is all the way down pages look light brown.
Im starting to think maybe SAmoled's life is too short for 2 year contract,i looked at Atrix slcd and i wasnimressed almost as nice as Epic,i hope Amoled Plus fixes this.
I've had my epic since launch actually 2 now but I don't see any red tints on white pages. I've had many roms and kernels been on froyo dk28 day1 and now cm7. Maybe you faulted screen with voodoo cuz I never installed that mod. Bad screen or bad setting somewhere. Try odin

Nah i never installed Voodoo before.Im on latest Syndicate right now and i do flash my roms properly(with Odin and 4 wipes, lol).
My epic did see some heavy use though because somebody in my house is always on it.I doubt that its Syndicate's fault.I just think its degredation, thats the reason Samsung shipped alot of Galaxy S models with blue tint/cool temperature so over time when blue degrades colors just appear white and blue tint dissapears.
But not everybody bought their Epic with blue tint,my colors were on point with no tint.Im sure im not the only one having this issue,to make it short my screen is not what it used to be.
No tints on the white pages on my.phone.

hey pals.. i had just made a new account on this awesome website a.k.a xda-developers.com just to tell you guys that how my yellow tint display disappeared unexpectedly..i am from Indian & i had bought a brand new Galaxy S2 on 8th of september 2011.
mine S2 is still un-rooted & earlier i was running on the stock version of android 2.3.3..& after that i had update my Galaxy S2 with Official XWKL1 Gingerbread 2.3.6 Firmware a week back from "androidadvices.com" & that official update it itself an Indian Version. so after following the steps & instruction given on the website when my new home screen appeared.. i realized that the screen tinting on the left totally gone & the color temperature are now finally rectified in this new update..i had tried open gray screen in low-mid & high brightness & haven't experienced a bit of a yellow tint flaw. i was so pissed off earlier because of this flaw.. but now i am very happy to see such problem disappearing. & yea.. the battery back-up has also been improved in the 2.3.6 official update. i am dropping website links below of the same. The introduction is on page 1 & the installation instruction & guide is on page 2. do comment if u find my post helpful....!!

I wasn't really particular with the yellow tint issue until I rooted my phone last year using "XWKDD_insecure.tar". After using that ROM (is that what it's called), the first thing that I noticed was the yellow triangle exclamation mark during booting. Next is the nice color I got and, yes, I so loved it! Even the yellow tint was gone. Even at only 10% brightness, everything on the screen is very, very visible. When came across this DXKL3 and applied it. I was kinda upset when the old color tone came back.

If you are not happy with your phone you should return it. In my case, the yellow tint was barely noticeable and then also in certain conditions. The rest of the phone was so 'awesome' that I was willing to overlook it.
The yellow tint thread also carried opinions that the issue may also be software related. Now that seems to be true with KL1/official firmware in my case.
I've got a stupid pink tint at the very bottom of the screen and I've had 2 exchanges of the HTC One before exchanging for the GS4 and the network find it hard to believe I've had 3 faulty devices in a row and wont exchange it. Anyways I canceled my direct debit and told my bank not to allow anything from them until they sort it but It's just bloody annoying.
The Three Ones I went through all looked like this http://s16.postimg.org/rz4843lud/image.png and now my GS4 has a pink tint at the bottom, lol, I swear phones are getting worse.
Can't say whether it is h/w or s/w - I know mine doesn't seem to have it ... or it's not obvious enough if it has
But I would recommend not cancelling the DD as it will probably have consequences on your credit rating. Phone companies don't care about you cancelling it as they will get their £££
Does yours have ghosting? When I scroll up and down in menus I notice like the blue bars on the edges of them it changes to a darker colour, you can see it struggling to keep up, even see the old text through the blue bars.

My GNex had the pink, and my S4 whilst not pink had a noticeable difference between the top and bottom of the screen. Darker at the top than the bottom.
Had it exchanged yesterday... new device is perfect, just waiting for Samsung to sort the laggy TouchWiz out.
Yeh they wont exchange mine saying I've had too many....... stop sending me faulty phones then.
Anyways wont pay them anything until they sort it.
Just noticed the purplish smearing on dark menus,
Also pinkish blue when popping in and out of the keyboard

Thanks for the response sir. Yes, I've checked your fix methods, tried the first two, but none of them worked. I think I don't have any smearing issue, rather I've a pink tint at the bottom of my screen. So, the upper 3/4 part of the screen is bright, and lower 1/4 part is dark (pink/purple tint). It seems, its a hardware issue, tho i'm running dead pixels app (from play store), which says, it will take 30mins. It is still running, but I guess replacing phone seems to be the only option.

Plus in time (not guaranteed) Usually there will be an exploit hack to get root. I'm sure someones working on something. Especially since some were able to keep root after updating
I can replicate the issue you are talking about in the messaging app. About an inch of the screen at the top is slightly darker. But only noticeable on certain colors. I tried all sorts of pictures and other things, I can only see it in the messaging all. The issue is there with all screen modes.
The S II had a very similar issue. There was a triangle of screen that was lighter than the rest, and under certain circumstances you could see black splotches. But both issues were only apparent when you worked hard to see it, but never under "normal" use.
From what I understand having a little inconsistency in AMOLED screens is unavoidable. I would rather have this issue than the washed out colors of an LCD screen, personally. I would wager the issue is probably there on every S4 if you look hard enough, it was on every S II I ever saw.
The only issue I saw that I felt was worth getting a new device was burn in. On the Captivate it happened after about 6 months, the S II about 9 months. I'm hoping that Trend (each phone lasting longer than previous gen until it burns in) continues with the Note, S III, Note II, on to the S4.

This seems to be a common issue. I'm on my third s4.
Phone 1: vertical lines
Phone 2: pink tint at bottom (screen darker at the bottom)
Phone 3: pink tint at top (screen darker at the top)
You can try exchanging it but there's no guarantee you will get a better screen. In fact you may get a worse one.
The qc on these phones seem to be pretty awful.
If the problem isn't too bad I would just keep it and try to get used to it.
The galaxy s2 had an issue where the left side of the screen had a yellow tint compared to the right side. Samsung eventually came out with an update to fix this issue. Hopefully they do the same with this problem.

Touché - I'm on my FIFTH S4 already. I documented the 1st 3, but I've lost patience now... I don't know what to do further???

This has been common with quite a few of the phones I've had. It's more of a yellowish tint at the bottom. I read that its most likely the glue that they use and that it will correct itself with time. I just never waited long enough to see if that was the case and always exchanged them.
