First post.
Mediascape sucks. Just to pause a song, I have to do go through so much stuff just to get to the now playing panel and press pause.
Is there a faster way, or maybe even a better media player? There are a lot and I don't want to look through them all,
Thanks
Check out Meridian Player. Add it's widget to home screen to control it easily.
Try TuneWiki. It comes with Shoutcast - internet radio & lyrics display (if applicable) during playback.
Definitely check out Meridian Player. Though I do like Mediascape, I use Meridian Player to make playlists to use in Mediascape.
Quick tip: When playing music, pull down the status bar and hit the currently playing song the quickly access the now playing page. From there, you can skip pause or select a new song from the list very quickly.
it's so stupid that we can't pause/play with a button, perhaps the camera button would do the trick...it would have been much easier
I use Meridian for movies and TuneWiki for music.
I have MW600 but i can't play/pause and is made by Sony.
I didn't test it yet if it works with Mediascape ...
you could try out MortPlayer which is a very straightforward easy to use music player that just does the job for you
bTunes works great. Has lock screen controls, and you can play/pause from the button on the X10's mic dongle (though it can be a bit finicky).
Thanks for the suggestions guys. I checked out some of the apps, but is it me or are they all not very visually appealing? Compared to the iPhone that is. (I had one but sold it 'cause I got really bored and felt it wasn't for me)
Any out there with a good looking UI?

Try Rockon or 3 for visuals, although I was getting some odd behavior from them when I would remove the headphones.

You can go straight to the current song from the App Tray.. (slide the tray down from the top and click on the "currently playing" line... Mediascape is very different to all the other "standard" media players out there and most people will take some time, and sometimes, a lot of time, to get into it... there will be improvements required I think.. things like creating playlists within the app, and lockscreen controls for the music player.. but mostly it's just different form everything else out there.. and we humans a uncomfortable with different.. until the point comes when it just feels normal.. use it.. give it time.. and then see.. (plus I also hear that the new firmware version may include some improvements for Mediascape too)..
Hey I was wondering what you guys thought was a great alternative to the stock Samsung music apparently. I'm looking for something that is very functional but is also very sleek and stylish. Also hopefully it comes with a widget as well. Let me know your thoughts! Thanks

theres always tunewiki
I would say MixZing. It is not the "sleekest" looking but it certainly is the best-SOUNDING. It has a full 10-band EQ with each band customizable to 12.0db. It also creates playlists based on what you are currently listening to and can get album art/info automatically + suggest new music you may not have. It has a lock screen widget for changing music without unlocking the phone (or you can use a separate program which allows you to switch the song by shaking your phone, even when off). Finally, the developers are VERY friendly and receptive to support and suggestions and are actively working to improve it.

The CyanogenMod Music application. Download CM5 for Nexus One, and install the Music.APK. Awesome look, nice standard functionality and excellent widgets.
Just out of curiosity, what is it about the stock music app that you don't like. I have tried a lot of music apps on the G1, but the stock one on the Vibrant is the best one I have used.
On the G1 and the Cliq I used MixZing and I thought it was great. At this point I'm using the stock player, seems to work pretty good. I would use MixZing or DoubleTwist, I've heard good things about that player.
+1 for the stock Vibrant music app.
The thing is that most of lyrics apps don't support this stock music player.
I tried Mixzing but I like 3 (cubed player).
meridian is pretty good. the headset controlls work for it.
I'm using MixZing, Cubed (3) and Stock player each had one problem I can't stand.
On the Cubed: it keeps recreating/duplicating my playlists, making several copies of each m3u list I have except only the last entry is useable.
On Stock: m3u files not recognized.
+1 for tunewiki, auto lyrivs and cover art download, widget looks ugly and no lockscreen controls though

One reason not to use the stock player is that it can't sort music by artist once your music library gets above a certain size. There is a thread in the Captivate section about this "Music Player -Not enough space in Music Database"
none of this would be a problem if google would get with the program. if the music player in android 3 is the same as android 1 then i hope someone slaps google with a wet noodle.
I just use Real player, works great for music, videos and pics, cant go wrong

Doubletwist is really good
I like MixZing mainly because it automatically retrieves album art and it has a decent widget. It also sorts music very well for me and the lockscreen widget is something I use a lot. My only gripe is that it's not very good looking.
My 1x4 Meridian Widget Music player auto closes everytime I unlock the screen. I would start the music, lock the screen (Plays fine), and when I unlock the screen it will close itself like 5s later. I have a task manager but Meridian is ignored and it doesn't autoclose apps... Its really annoying but I don't want to get another music player cause this widget fits my desktop.
Thanks
Any chance you're using SetCPU? Also, are you using the "conservative" or "pioneer" version? The pioneer one is more of a beta version, so try the conservative version, see if that might fix it.
I'm using meridian music player which only has 1 version not the other one with 2 versions. Not using setcpu

i'm using it and got no prob o.0
reinstall it
Why not use MixZing? It looks cleaner than Meridian (which I formerly used) and more importantly, has an equalizer.

I've tried a few, and always come back to Meridian as it's a much better player imo. Doesn't look the best unless you use the 4x3 or 4x4, but do prefer it to others.
Are there any recommended widgets that you can theme and design that work with the Touch Wiz player?
I'm not looking to change music players, do don't suggest any, thanks.
Have you tried Pure Music Widget? It works pretty well.
Try out Galaxy S Music Widget on the market...

I have a surround system that I use the headphone port of the TF to output music on the surround and to wireless speakers through out my house.
When the screen turns off, the pause between songs is very long and eventually just doesn't play another song. When I turn the screen on it instantly plays the next song.
I've been on prime 1.5 and 1.6.
anyone else have issues listening to music when the screen turns off? This also effects the speakers too. Music playback in general. The music is on my microSD card but it also does the same when I copied them to the internal storage.
I have like 6gb of music but just strikes me as odd that while the screen is on it functions normally.

Seems to be a bug with stock music ape. Surprise it hasn't been addressed yet since this isn't a problem on any other music app. Rather I been using PlayerPro which works great and looks good on the tablet.
I use the program 'Screen On' from the market that prevents the screen from turning off when certain applications are running. You can set it up to not turn off when the music player is loaded.
I don't wanna keep the screen on for hours lol. So another music app works?

Use Google Music that way your music doesn't even have to be taking up space on your device or sd card, it rocks and it keeps playing with screen off no prob.

yes. i ve tested a few diff music apps and they all work fine without the screen off issue. seems like its only related to the stock music app. i ended up going with PlayerPro since it has a nice interface and feature wise to me.
Thanks to onebelo who recommended PlayerPro. It transitions with the screen off and interface is as good or better than the stock music app. The widget isn't as nice as Hive Player's, but I have even more problems with Hive Player concerning music playback with screen off(jumps, stutters and doesn't advance with screen off). Can anybody else confirm?

No experiece here with Hive Player .. what i like about PlayerPro too is it'll automatically download Artist photos and/or Album Art. and u can search it yourself too within the App. i also like the "Now Playing" screen better than the stock app
