Hi,
so do we know the best way to get the Samsung Firmware updates on our unbranded Focuses that have NoDo already installed yet?
I connected my unbranded Focus on which I used the "VPN hack" to install NoDo to Zune, but did not get the Samsung firmware updates yet.
Is anyone else seeing anything different?
cheers,
Alex
i unbranded and used the hungarian hack to get nodo weeks ago, just synced my phone to zune and it offered the samsung update. i didn't do it yet.

If you have the NoDo Update then just rebrand the phone to AT&T sync with Zune Software and you will get just the Samsung updates.
To rebrand: "HKLM\System\Platform\DeviceTargetingInfo\MobileOperator" = ATT-US
I just did the official update to nodo and i was still able to keep the unlock.

Still unlocked after nodo update? Can I still deploy the registry editor (xap homebrew)?
If you did the prevent re-lock hack, it will remain unlocked

So my last hope is the hard reset...
Or wait for a new way to unlock the phone with nodo.

Hi.
I rebranded my Focus to ATT-US because I had unbranded my device to install NoDo some weeks ago. So because I am ATT-US again, I can see the Samsung Firmware update, but my phone won't finish the backup process throwing error 801812DD.
Someone knows what is happening? Thanks.

The Microsoft support code says to make sure you're using the USB cable that came with the phone. If you are, make sure the cable is using a USB port on the back of your PC.
I think the second recommendation is the bigger issue. Don't go through a USB hub, but directly connect. I am using a Monoprice USB cable directly connected to my PC, and it worked fine.

Thanks for the replies, I solved it but with a different tip the Twitter WinPhoneSupport guys told me, I just changed and used a different USB cord and it worked!!
I used the vpn hack to get NoDo in March and then when the official update came out I restored back to OS ver. 7008 and used the samsung registry app to change my carrier back to ATT-US, rebooted the phone and installed the update. However, I didn't get the Samsung Update with firmware updates. I tried it several times. I finally restored back to 7008 again, did a hard reset, and then I got the Samsung Update and NoDo. Sucked to have to do a hard reset, but worth it for the firmware update.
For those who used the VPN hack/unbranded their Samsungs and don't want to have to do a Hard Reset, just a quick FYI: A Soft Reset will work as well. (Settings/About/Reset). Means you will have to reinstall your apps and resync but it may be a bit faster and easier than doing a roll-back to 7004/7008 or doing a hard reset.
VPN NoDo
I originally used the VPN hack to get NoDo in march, but was experiencing a lot of keyboard lag so I restored it back to the restore point in Zune and then updated it officially. Re-branded the phone and now installing the samsung update. Will see what happens. Hopefully its for the better.

Thanks! Worked for me! I wondered why I wasn't getting it. Reset this and it came right up!
I have searched and searched but cannot find any instructions on how to update my DVP firmware.
I am currently on the old .105 firmware and this thing is almost unusable!
I'm also using the current Mango update and matching Zune software. Would that block an automatic update of the firmware?

The new FW is currently available via Zune only for unlocked DVP's. TMO DVP is next week. Plus, if you have Mango-you need to back out to Nodo (pre-mango state) and only then Zune will let you update.
My DVP is unlocked, as it was a T-Mobile version I am now using in Canada on Rogers.
I will try reverting to do the update.
Well, looks like I don't have a pre mango backup anymore.
What do I do now?

It should have been sold unlocked by Dell for this to work. If you bought a locked TMO version to unlock it afterwards, it won't work.

Your only option is to get help from MS if you are a official Developer or get a Dev account from MS and ask MS for help.
Didn't MS mention it a zillion times to take a backup? Might also be worth posting in the WP General forum in XDA for help.

Yes, and I had that backup, but when I tried to backup manually my post mango state, it somehow overwrote my older backup.
Actually, if anyone has a stock dvp pre mango backup and would be willing to share it with me, that would work...

Hi,
I have a "Walshed" Focus to get to 7390. Since then, I have been unsuccessful in "UnWalshing". When trying to update to 7392, I get stuck in reboot at step 6.
So I decided to try the Mango upgrade from 7390 - to which I've read that some have been successful going from 7390 (not necessarily from a Walshed device) to Mango.
Well, my phone gets stuck at reboot and when I run the ISV_Provisioning_live.exe following the Mango upgrade steps, I get an timeout error.
So at this point, I'm stuck at 7390 and thinking that I need to reflash my phone to 7004 and build up from there. However, I can't seem to find instructions for flashing a Samsung device. In the WP7 development forum, I only see instructions for flashing HTC devices.
Can someone point me to:
1. Instructions for flashing Samsung, Focus if it's device specifc.
2. Where can I get a Samsung 7004 ROM?
Thanks.

Read my posts here (location of Roms and checklist) and here for the instructions on flashing.
Just wait for the real deal coming Wednesday if you are an AT&T customer.

Hi,
I'm not sure if you were replying to my post above but I have version 1.4 and "Walshed" (forced the NoDo update back in April). At any rate, my understanding is that an official AT&T Mango for v1.4 will not be available in October. I suppose I can wait for it but given that I had "Walshed" my phone and my attempt to unWalsh is not successfully, I fear that an office update will not work.
As an anecodatel point, I did receive an update to 7392. However, the many attempts I have tried, I got stuck at step 6 when the phone is supposed to reboot but never does. Others have had the same problem with v1.4 and with a Walshed phone. So, I don't have high hopes that an officie Mango would even work. But I hope I am wrong...
Just install Zune and disconnect your internet about a second after it checks for an update. Got mine to mango.

All this chatter about Mango being release today. My HD2 has Yuki’s back to the future rom with mango. Do I still need to update my hd2 when the mango rollout notifies my zune?
What is the difference between the build being release today vs the leaked RTM 7720 and yuki’s back to the future rom?
Will I gain anything new that I don’t already have?

He knows that his current version is the RTM, which is by the way something totally different from a test or beta version!
The question asked is what the DIFFERENCE between the official and RTM version is.
As far as i understand the difference is in the drivers that are present in the version released today by MS. But then again it is just what i have read somewhere.

When I connected my phone to Zune it said the update would "clean up any beta/ivs provisioning to ensure your phone can recieve future updates"..
Quite a few people in the "back to the future" thread seem to have installed the update without problems.
I assume that if you update from the Yuk/HD2Oi "beta" to "official" Mango you wont gain anything functional, it will just change some versions/comments from "beta" to "official" so it shows as an offical release rather than a beta release.

For info, I've just installed this update (took less than a minute) and all is working fine still.
Waiting for more feedback and then only I'll switch.
If theres no real difference then I won't switch at all. Its too much of a mess to setup up my tiles and get my apps up and running again.
I agree. I'll wait on it.
just completed the update process from "back to future" rom to the official mango. i see no difference between the two other than perhaps removing elements of beta according to the update. there was no change in my tile presentation and i had no app installed as i was experience huge battery drain for no reason.
I have the HD2 and also received the update message requesting for update would would "clean up any beta/ivs version.
So for any of you who installed can you give us up dates with your hd2,
Q1, if previous side loaded apps are still on the phone & usable?
Q2, Is it still unlocked? &
Q3, can we use Tom Xap installer?
yes it's still unlocked.
Yes, you can sideload apps using your tomxap installer, I just installed fruit ninja.
As to previous sideloaded apps I can't answer cos i did the upgrade without any installed up.
I just upgrade my phone to mango.
I checked and it did not affect my apps or tiles.
Thanks
Yeah, I installed it too. Just like installing it as a native WP. It won't mess up any apps, pix, or saved documents. Took less than 5 minutes & actually made my very smooth phone, smoother!

From what I've read so far it seems safe to install this update. We dont have any "official" statement from Yuki or DF or anyone actually involved in the ROM here do we?
And also, will I need to reconfigure the phone after applying this update? If so, then this update is not gonna happen for me.

Yes, you can. I've done just that with my Focus v1.3
yeah, my focus 1.3 has 8773 running just fine, however, i cannot get gps to work right. then again, i have not been able to get it to work right on update 7720 up.
just make sure you do the updates via cab sender incrementally and install the correct language update packages with the update. ei flash 7720-7740 update w/ 7720-7740 language, then flash 7740-8107 update w/ 7740-8107 language packs.
I updated my samsung focus using this method http://digg.com/newsbar/Technology/tango_update_for_samsung_focus_omnia_w
their are 2 updates so when its finish you have to do it again and also you have to use windowsbreakproject again to be able to side load again and access anything you already side loaded.everything worked for me.im on att also. only thing that's frustrating is disconnecting and reconnecting ethernet wire because you dont always catch it right away it takes a few tries.

I tried this 30-40 times on my AT&T Samsung Focus, 1.3. Never finds an update.
make sure you put your phone in airplane mode.it should work i did it last night after a about 10 tries or maybe more wasn't counting.give it another try.
It might work for Focus flash / Omnia but not for Focus. This kind of update only works when there is an update for your device but not available in your region
Yes, I am not able to force update via zune. So thought about cabsender method but don't want to take the risk as mango is working properly on my focus. And tango doesn't have much to offer other than mms, which I never use.
Thanks to everybody for answering.

If you're unlocked:
First, run *#1234# in Diagnosis. If the latest 3 letters of the PDA are less than KK2 (ie KI4, KH2, KK1, etc) then you can do what I did: WindowBreak and update with Zune (less chances of brick) and unlock with *#9908#.

I see. In that case, you can use cabsender method to update.
However, If I were you, I would unlock, for the benefit of homebrew (battery app, custom widgets, etc etc etc). And, if your PDA is less than KK2, you can unlock with WindowBreak, install WP7 Root Tools, alter the registry key
HKLM \ System \ Platform \ DeviceTargetingInfo \ MobileOperator
from "ATT-US" to "ROG-CA", connect in Zune, and update. Less chances of brick and it's the "official way" to update through Zune, plus you also get to decide whether you still want to have homebrew after the update.
Your call.

You need to read the guides carefully.
Re-read the guide for WindowBreak, it tells you how to check in Diagnosis.
See the post in my sig for for guide on deploying apps.
