[Q] Differences between leaked Mango RTM and official rom - Focus General

Has anyone noticed any differences in the official Mango release? I know the changes probably are minimal, but any extra options, performance increases or bug fixes? I will report back when i get mine updated.

So far on AT&T Focus:
- Hidden SSID
- Tap Focus (the camera will focus on the place you tap)
- Compass !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! (at last)
- the Firmware and Radio Software version changed from 2103.11.3.3 to 2103.11.8.1
- the bootloaderverdion changed from 5.3.1.6 to 5.8.0.2

Can you please list the versions for all the updates you have under Settings - About - More?
I had Mango Beta 2 (not RTM) and received a set of auto updates. One to 7720, one "Cleanup" package and now one Samsung Update and want to make sure that I am now on the official Mango build and that I don't need to downgrade to get the official one.

Here's what I see on my phone after updating to Mango using info posted today on WPCentral.com
OS:7.10.7720.68
Firmware: 2103.11.8.1
Hardware: 3.1.0.7
Radio: 2103.11.8.1
Radio Hardware: 0.0.0.3
Boot-loader : 5.8.0.2
Chip SOC : 0.36.2.0
Can anyone confirm the same versions after updated to Mango without doing any forcing?

I didn't do any forcing of the update and I have the same software/firmware versions as your device.
BTW: MS said months ago that current generation phones would be version 7.1 and 2nd generation phones would be labled as 7.5 - guess it has to do with the additional hardware.
I guess I had better upgrade....

If Zune isn't showing that you have an update available, go to the Windows Phone Hacker site and they have an easy way to force the update to the at&t build of Windows "Mango"
John

****, man, that's pretty bad news for me
I knew I should wait for the official update. I am not even sure now what creature I have on the phone.
I guess it's not the branded AT&T version?
What does the 7.5 has compared to 7.1 ?
What versions do you see on 'about'? Please post them.

NOTHING SUCKS! The Zune update will work on just about any version of OS you are running.
7.1 is on first gen devices and 7.5 is on second gen devices - adds support for front facing camera, etc.
As to what version of software am I now running? Just look at the above posts, the answer is there.
Just connect to Zune on your PC and go from there.

The only numbers on this thread is those posted by minori_aoi and me, which both match.
What are you talking about then?

Well I don't know what you are talking about because if you have the same software versions as above then you have the latest version of software.
OS:7.10.7720.68
Firmware: 2103.11.8.1
Hardware: 3.1.0.7
Radio: 2103.11.8.1
Radio Hardware: 0.0.0.3

Chip SOC : 0.36.2.0
PS. I posted a reply above too stating I have the same version as minori
We all have the same (latest) version of software.
Let's put this thread to rest.

i'm pretty sure the gen2 devices will still be using 7.1 as the build number, under the OS version above it says windows phone 7.5 on my focus even though the specifc build is still 7.10.7720.68

So true, I stand corrected.

I was running one of the Beta builds and not the RTM, but I did notice one difference right off the bat. For linked contacts pinned to the home screen; the displayed name changed. It previously used the name I set but when I updated it changed and choose the name from the linked contact with the most info.
For example, I have my wife pinned to my home screen. Her contact card consists of 3 linked contacts. I don't really need it to display her last name so I just had it set up to show her first name (by leaving the last name field blank on the primary contact). In Mango RTM, it went in and pulled the name details from one of the other linked contacts since it had more info (it ad the first and last name filled in) and proceeded to use that name as the display name on the tile.

I updated today from pre-release mango to final mango and got the clean-up update, but I did NOT get the samsung update. Im still on:
radio software: 2103.10.10.1 and bootloader 4.10.0.1
anyone have an idea how to get the samsung updates?

Thanks to everyone for confirming the build numbers. On my Focus (rev 1.3), I have the same as posted here. Good to know that I don't have to roll-back after all!

Wont flashing an older Nodo or non-Nodo Sammy ROM onto your phone rebrand it? -- I don't know, just guessing.

I have the Sammy 1.3 and running the Rogers ROM, because it's faster on tethering.

HTC Update for Trophy available

About an hour ago I got message that there is an update for my phone. It is HTC Update, not MS one (I already had NODO). It updated my Firmware and Bootloader to latest versions. I already had latest Radio, so I do not know is it also contain latest Radio, but it should.
My previous information:
OS: 7.0.7390.0
Firmware: 2550.09.10908.401
Radio: 5.54.09.21_22.33b.50.10U
Bootloader: haven't wrote version, but it was somthing like (114xxx)
UNLOCKED before NODO update
My new information:
OS: 7.0.7390.0
Firmware: 2550.09.12000.401
Radio: 5.54.09.21_22.33b.50.10U
Bootloader: 1.20.2250.0(117833)
STILL UNLOCKED!
where
where did you get the update?
was it a message on the phone???
thx
Have yet to receive that update on my Vodafone Trophy, but found this insteresting piece of news related to the HTC update:
http://wmpoweruser.com/has-the-htc-update-caused-some-windows-phones-to-go-16-bit/
Santi writes us about a new complaint about a pretty undesirable side-effect of the recent HTC Windows Phone 7 update. He notes some HTC users are reporting color banding/16bit color across the entire OS after the NoDo and/or yesterday’s update.
He notes it seems mainly related to the new firmware FW 2250.09.11001 and FW 2250.09.12000, with the OS version making no difference and is present on the HTC 7 Trophy and also HTC HD7.
Santi has some more pictures of the banding issue which results in his dropbox account here.
To check if your phone is affected, download this image and view it in the Pictures and Videos hub. it should display without banding.

Yes I get message on the phone. Then I connected to Zune and update.
I was curious to see what will happen if user doesn't have latest Radio, so I flashed my phone with older release of ansar's ROM (7004 OS with 5.52 Radio). I know that someone will ask that once, and I had a little free time.
First I got notification about February update and clicked install later.
I unlocked my phone and installed patch to prevent relocking. Then I installed February update.
Immediately after that I got March update notification but there was also a notice about HTC Update, so I got BOTH NODO and latest HTC update AT ONCE. This update takes VERY LONG (40 minutes maybe), and I do not count download time there.
Result is same:
OS: 7.0.7390.0
Firmware: 2550.09.12000.401
Radio: 5.54.09.21_22.33b.50.10U
Bootloader: 1.20.2250.0(117833)
It looks like I got the firmware-update too, when I got my march update from ms...
But I dont see a difference :S

My phone is Vodafone DE (unbranded with ansar's ROM).
I downloaded this image, converted that image to JPG (for some reason I can not add PNG to my phone via Zune ?!).
I also downloaded image from here, and cut off the left part, and left only original image.
I can see that my phone is 16bit now (why I have a feeling that I will restore old ROM to see was it 24bit earlier? ), but on my phone picture of that girl looks MUCH BETTER than on part I cut off.
Strange!
Just thought I'd say... Just updated my Trophy to Firmware: 2550.09.12000.707

Unbranded 16GB Omnia 7 and no Mango till now

I have samsung omnia 7 16GB unbranded i bought it from expansys
and till now i didn't get Mango update
any one could help

Lies and a different battery cover?
I dunno the whole system seems buggered - I have an 8GB "3" branded Omnia 7, and I received the updates the day it came out
Its getting rolled slowly, it can take up to 24 days to reach everyone. Google force update trick to get it to install faster
Sent from my OMNIA7 using XDA Windows Phone 7 App
Try the Unofficial Way
You probably won't get the update until a few weeks because it's still in the distribution phase which could, or could not, take forever.
There is a trick that everyone's been doing though:
1. Connect your phone to your PC and launch Zune.
2. Go to your phone's settings from there, and click the 'Update' tab.
3. Then click on any other tab, and once again click on the Update tab.
4. This is the tricky part...right after you click the 'Update' tab for the second time, wait exactly from 2 to 3 seconds and then disconnect your PC from internet. You must do that before you get the 'No Updates Found' screen.
If you suceed, you should wait for about 20 seconds and then you will find an available update.
5. Reconnect to the internet, start your update, and voila.
thx for help
i try this unofficial way and it work with me and install the first update 7.0.4
but while installing 7.10 it give me error and the phone restart and stuck with samsung omnia 7 logo
i made hard reset for the phone it restore again to old software
but form this time every time i restart the phone it stuck with omnia 7 logo and i have to remove the battery and insert it again to load the os
any idea about this

I have 16GB unlocked and unbranded version as well and i have no mango yet either. I read elsewhere here that if you do the "trick" download using Zune you don't get the proper update for the Omnai because there is a Samsung firmware update as well that is missing. I will wait for a few weeks max to see if I can get via Zune. Will let you know when I get it.
@egyfox85:
Try to flash your device with a RTM ROM (or Nodo rom, but you cant use then the Chevron Jailbreak), because your Omnia 7 firmware is damaged.
Then try update to Mango..
Greetings.

I'm in a similar position as you where I have a 16gb Omnia 7. I actually forced my device but restored it back to NoDo soon after realising my firmware version was incorrect. I just hope me forcing it doesn't hinder my chance of getting Mango - does anyone know whether this could be an issue or not?
I have an unbranded omnia 7 16gb from tmobile germany (no carrier branding shown when turned on the phone). I forced update to mango but received an error 80180048 and now I want to reflash it back to its original rom to re-do updates to nodo and just wait for offical release. Does anyone know what the original rom is?
I was in the same situation. I made dozens of attempts to update, but only succeeded by reverting to a pre nodo rom, and allowing updates as far as Zune would go. After this, the phone updated all the way through to Mango using the network pull trick without issue. So if you are willing to wipe the phone completely, this might be the way.
I started at Samsung Omnia 7 Firmware XXJL3 Retail UK.
I've been using Mango since the day it first rolled out on my 16GB Omnia 7 from expansys UK.
Used the forced update, got the lastet OEM updated firmware with it too
now my phone stuck at start up Omnia 7 logo and i reflash it with firmware I8700XXKC1 after i finish it updated to 7.392 but also no mango
this should be UK rom
any idea about this too

yip, mine is a German model with 16GB (that's why I bought from there). But hey, horror stories.... I couldn't update NOW so I deleted it thinking that the old version was stopping the new version from downloading. Then I couldnt get it at all so I tried to go back to NODO and couldnt restore. Phone hung on the update connection . Reinstalled KC1 using WP7 installer and got back to NODO and did a force install (trick) to get back to Mango. And still I cannot update NOW; must be a Sammy problem. You should try the "force Zune trick" to get the Mango update pal..
Running 16 GB unbranded Omnia 7 purchased from ebay.de on Swisscom in CH and tried Zune update for 1/2 hour ago .... & got the regular update to Mango (not forced). Will post later if everything went well.... Regz from CH

Aaah, nah I already forced it and wasn't happy as the firmware was completely wrong, the reason I reverted back to NoDo was because of that issue. On a positive note, I sent a tweet to windowsphonehelp (or whatever they're called) and they responded back saying if you've forced it and go back to NoDo it shouldn't cause an issue - so, when Mango does officially come out for these handsets, I should get it with no issues. Here's hoping that happens sometime soon as I'm getting quite fed up - all my mates and even my brother are fully mango'd

I've been having loads of issues with it. I had no problems whatsoever on NoDo.
Slooooow boot ups. (sometimes fast sometimes takes a couple of mins)
Sometimes if i switch it off and on it locks up and just displays the battery indicator. No home screen. (need to pull the battery)
Problems with the data connection dying requiring a soft reset of the phone to re-enable. (this is a MAJOR issue)
Started having bluetooth issues - it wont discover anything sometimes. (seems to work if i switch on WiFi as well. wtf?)
Info slow to appear on lock screen.
Keyboard closes itself randomly (known issue i see)
Really un-impressed with Mango. I've just hard reset my device so will see if that helps at all.

Let me know when you get the official release and your stats when installed.

You are missing the HTC update. If your zune software tells you that you are up to date than unfortunately you must do a reset on your phone and then it will catch and upgrade.
If anyone knows how to get that HTC update without having to reset the phone, please post how.
i had this happen a few times after mango, with podcasts though, i just removed them and re synched them and it stopped.
The Bootloader is slightly different, 1.3.2259.7(111288)
vs. 1.3.2250.7(111288) Original OS release, but your Firmware is the original version released with the phone. So you are missing both the NoDo and Mango Firmware upgrades.
Based on your profile, you are on AT&T and located in the US, but I have to ask, is the phone carrier unlocked. Or did you do that unbranding trick back with NoDo and lose visibility as an AT&T device. Strange that you are missing all firmware updates pushed out by AT&T.
I would definitely suggest a hard reset and hopefully your phone will get updated through Zune. HTC made a bunch of subtle, but important improvements to the phone, involving alarms, music doing quirky things when you plug anything in to the headphone jack, etc. You want the firmware updates for sure.
Sorry for the late response but i did carrier unlock because of at&t's slow update process. also hard resetting did cause the phone to see the update and it did help the music problem for about a day. Anyway is there any 7008 roms available for the surround that is still at&t branded (also tested to make sure their working as I don't know how brickable this phone is)? Also if I was able to go back to 7008 should I do the chevron unlock or should I try to get my dev unlock even though I forgot to fill out geotrusts forms, do you think they would still have mine open after 7+ months?

Anyone know what this update did? I can't find any changes, except that it changed theme to Lime... And as always Samsung did not provide any change log.
May I ask where you have it from? I'm having massive connection issues since I updated to FW 2424.11.9.2 (the last one delivered by MS).
I received the update the regular way. Notified on the phone that an update was available, then updated with Zune.
Where are you located? Thanks.

Same here. Wi-fi appears as connected to my network but can't receive/send data. Turning wi-fi off and on again appears to solve it temporarily.
I'm waiting for new firmware update...
I'm in Sweden. 3 branded phone, SIM unlocked and on Telenor network.
I was updated from FW 2424.11.9.2, where I experienced some connection troubles. I used to solve them with reboot... Have not seen anything about that today, but it's just been one day yet so...

I've been having connection issues since updating to Mango/0222.11.8.5 almost 2 months ago and am yet to receive an update so I wouldn't hold my breath :/
if your surfing on Wifi and pages don't load/take ages to load etc, turn off Mobile network data. When you re-enable it, you will have to restart the phone, otherwise you will have the internet issues on mobile network lol
KJW,
And what you have written down in the registry -
"HKLM\System\Platform\DeviceTargetingInfo\MobileOperator"

I'm also interested.
Yesterday I've changed mine from 000-88 (no carrier) to SFR-FR and was able to update to 2424.11.9.3, but it didn't change anything.
I'm just about to revert back to my latest backup (11.9.2).
Hi,
HKLM\System\Platform\DeviceTargetingInfo\MobileOperator="SE3-SE"
I'm sad to say that I just had the same connection trouble on WiFi. Toggle WiFi solved, just as earlier.
So, it seems that this FW does not solve the connection issue. Wish Samsung provided a changelog, so we knew what to expect.
Sent from my OMNIA7 using Board Express
bummer!
I tried to update with "SE3-SE" as carrier. Zune tells me there is an update, it downloads, the phone restarts, it tries to install but reboots after a few seconds with an "error code 8018001e". After some research here on xda it seems that my phone not having swedish installed might be the problem. Also tried adding swedish to [HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\MUI\Available] but it didn't do the trick.
Since you seem to still have connection problems with .11.10.1, I think I won't further bother..

Radio HW: 0.0.0.800
Bootloader: 5.9.0.6

and no Internet Sharing....

[GUIDE] Internet Sharing on Samung Focus running OFFICIAL 8107 update

Hello,
This is my first post and hope it proves to be helpful!
Step-by-step guide to enable internet sharing on a untouched Samsung Focus running OFFICIAL 8107 update!
Make sure you have the following downloaded/extracted/installed before starting:
1. Zune (from http://www.zune.net/en-US/products/software/download/default.htm)
2. WPSDK.zip (from http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1265846)
3. Tom XAP Installer v1.2.zip (from http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=860964)
4. DiagProvXMLv0.91_IS.xap (from http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1238519)
5. SamsungTools.zip (from http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=924497)
6. Microsoft .NET Framework 4 (from http://www.microsoft.com/download/en/details.aspx?id=17851)
note 1: the Microsoft .NET Framework 4 is required by WPSDK
note 2: make sure Zune is able to detect your phone successfully
Steps below are done on the phone itself:
1. go to http://windowsphonehacker.com/windowbreak
2. tap WindowBreak Me then windowbreak.xml
3. tap back capacitive button at the bottom
4. tap dailer then type ##634# then *#9908#
5. select windowbreak then tap save
6. soft reset the phone
Steps below are done on the pc:
note 1: make sure Zune is running
note 2: make sure phone is connected to PC, is not PIN locked and on the main home screen
7. run Tom XAP Installer v1.2 then click Add XAP files
8. select DiagProvXMLv0.91_IS.xap then click install
9. select SamsungTools.xap then click install
Steps below are done on the phone itself:
10. tap DiagProvXML then swipe left
11. hold down on internet sharing then tap execute then ok
12. tap back capacitive button at the bottom
13. tap Samsung Tools then Apply Changes then ok then ok
Done!
Once phone resets, the internet sharing option will be in the settings menu between bluetooth and email+accounts
MANY THANKS TO THOSE WHO CREATED THESE TOOLS TO MAKE THIS POSSIBLE!

Nice job of putting it all together, nice and clear. All these steps are out there, but all over the place. You brought them together well.

I wouldn't bet money on that Actually, all steps are in several places across the forum, for example in my guide here (after Interop unlock).
But it's good that people show interest, so your guide is welcome.
@SuperSport
Thanks a lot, I appreciate it. That was exactly my intent!
@EnderPsp
My aim was to create a very simple step-by-step guide for those who have a Samsung Focus updated officially (using Zune) to 8107 and are looking to enable the internet sharing option.
I actually came across your guide while searching for what I was trying to do and with all due respect, it wasn't exactly the noob friendly guide that I personally found it out to be, as it entailed a lot more steps than what's truely required to achieve what my goal was with all other options available now (ex. The WindowBreak Project).

Chill out mate, I appreciate your post. When I build the newbie guide, there was no WindowBreak project so that was the only way to have Mango unlocked. In the meantime, things changed and WindowBreak makes it simpler. And I did specify so in the opening (post #36)
I will also add a reference to your guide here, so it's easier for noobs to follow.
@EnderPsp
No worries!
I figured when you wrote yours, things weren't as simpler as they are now so yours definitely has more research put behind it -- and I appreciate you adding a reference to mine! =)
Thank you very much !
Thanks for sharing this guide. I bought my first Windows phone, the Focus, yesterday and this is a fast track way for me to be able to do all the wonderful things Microsoft or AT&T doesn't want me to do. (Same thing I did on my Android and Apple devices)
Not updated to 8107
My OS version and Firmware revision number don't match yours. I have the following:
OS version: 7.10.7720.68
Firmware revision number: 2103.11.8.1
Hardware revision number: 3.1.0.7
Radio software version: 2103.11.8.1
Radio hardware version: 0.0.0.3
Bootloader version: 5.8.0.2
Chip SOC version: 0.36.2.0
I have the same config as the previous poster and followed the steps and it worked. When I try to update in Zune it says I'm already up to date, but went ahead with the rest of the steps anyway.
A couple of notes
1) Had to reboot after installing Zune, otherwise would not detect phone.
2) The WinSDK installer requires Net 4.0 framework. It would error out on me till I installed that.
3) Had to install each XAP one at a time; the instructions seem to indicate you can select and install both.
4) Phone reboots at end.
I assume this will NOT survive a hard reset (vol down+camera+power)?

No, it won't. You will have latest OS version but the developer unlock will be lost. If you don't have the KK2 Samsung update, then you can safely re-use this guide to unlock again
@uwbadgers16
It looks like you're running a previous (7720) version to what the latest released is (8107). You can still follow this guide to get the internet sharing option enabled though.
@pitflyer
Thanks for the notes! I've updated the original guide to reflect that.
Excellent guide. Thanks.
Do these instructions apply to the original Focus ?
Model: SGH-i917
Carrier: AT&T
SW: Mango: 7.5
OS: 7.10.7720.68
Firmware: 2103.11.8.1
HW revision: 3.1.0.7
Radio SW: 2103.11.8.1
Radio HW: 0.0.0.3
Bootloader: 5.8.0.2
Chiop SOC: 0.36.2.0
Storage 7.39 GB
I bought my Focus the day it was first released in 2010.
I heard from AT&T technical support that the original Samsung Focus does NOT support internet sharing because of the HW.
Since you folks on this forum are much more knowledgable about such matters though I would ask.

I currently have it working on my Focus v 1.3. AT&T tech support does not know or talk about anything not on their cheat sheets.
Hello
Can any1 tell the harmful effect of radiation coming out from windows phone samsung focus after enabling the INTERNET SHARING OPTION? If there is no harmful effect then why these OEM does not provide all the option with phone..?

Now that is an interesting theory... hehehe
Actually, they didn't enable it because they want to be sure they are able to charge for the service before it's enabled.
