Put misc.img in a a zip and calling it PG06IMG.zip might work? but the sig would still need to be altered

The exploit already in use is basically the common exploit method. It's not likely that anyone will release a non-adb root method for 2.3.3, because none of us want to waste any exploits to get temp-root until ICS ships. So all that really remains is making it easier, and trying to reduce the amount of "damage" done to the device. The batch file greatly improved it.
So even to #teamwin there's really no good reason to move forward with exploits,
between my batch, scaryghoul and OTAKings manipulations to the img file this way, seems as thou it's a " take it how it is because it fully works now' or ' don't use it"
Either way if you want to continue to improve this stage of getting the hboot cracked, you have my support
You should do it but then not release it till ICS so like do the work now and drop later to speed up the root process
Tried cracking it using a 3 step step-down to Hboot-ENG but it was still stuck at .98 :| F-U HTC.

Do a back up of the .img off an oem shift, check the hex. Something should come out of it.
Dev, I tried that but it needs to flash a zip signed by HTC but I can't find the signature key. :| It's not worth it anyway. I'll try and think of something else for it.

Not sure what you're trying to do here - find a new root or tweak the existing root to make it easier?

i tried booting the boot.img from this update on my hero, nothing...
edit: system needs to be stripped, is ~30mb to big for the hero.
could someone please upload the "system.img" for me?
I have a bad internet connection and for several tries it couldn't complete the whole RUU update file
system.img is pretty much the entire size of the RUU. If you can't get the RUU, I don't think you'll get the system image. And Benhaam mentioned he's had this for days, and that it's what he based his leaked version on (ie. apparently might not be final version)...

ive managed to port this to the hero using the original app_s method used for porting hero to the G1, couldnt shrink it enough for the hero system partition, got everything working except wifi, its a bit slow but definitelly usable if your ok using a data connection instead of wifi.

Don't think that is the actual shipping ROM, although I may be mistaken. Benhaam had this one a few days ago (the watermarked one). The Legendary Alpha is based on a newer, although slower (at the moment) one. That's the one I'm trying to optimise, and maybe the base of Villain3.5 although we don't know...

Yea thanks to all the hacking guys here, our phone is now finally rooted, and so we are able to add Hebrew on the xperia, its very simple, download from the market "israelpack" and install fonts, then download anysoft keyboard + Hebrew extension and you are ready to go.

joel and amir, i have been trying to root my device and haven't been successful. i had a look at the thread here and it simply isn't working. i had a lot of errors till i got to where i am (mostly java errors that were resolved by upgrading and setting the path). i have completed everything, but for some reason when i download and try to install the israelpack, it says that i do not have root permissions. any ideas?
phone details are:

firm v 1.6
bb v 1.1.27
kernel 2.6.29 rel
build r2ba023
first thing to try is reseting your phone and REDO STEP 3 ONLY, Reset again.

OK - i finally foound out what i was doing wrong, and this could be something that might have to be added in the steps when rooting, but that is for a different thread.
joel, i added israelpack and the anysoftkeyboard with hebrew ext. how do i use it? do i have to install it after downloading? the israelpack works fine after the reboot.

It struck me that since we can access the bootloader to place a ROM image onto the phone could we not access the bootloader, (or a modified bootloader), that would "suck" the entire image of the phone, (and SD Card too would be nice though that could be imaged independently), off onto a PC.
It would be a nice backup and would be brilliant for "fiddlers" like me that want to make changes but want a quick and accurate method to go back if I don't like it.
Is there any reason why this couldn't be done? It would be a most powerful backup system.

Sprite backup (others are available) is probably as close as you'll get to a quick revert app.
I have sprite backup... I don't think that it is a ROM image though... It would be nice to image the current system bit for bit and the Radio too would be nice.

did an extensive search on that topic in xda and general google: no outcome !
There seems to be no method to extract the entire rom/radio directly from a wm device although this would make flashing cooked roms for trial and revert to stock or previous rom a "blink of the eye".
wonder why nobody developed sashimi further to do this job .........
I looked at Sashimi and, unless I missed something, it's really a batch script that automates the reinstallation of applications etc. after you change ROMs fro example...
I was just hoping there was a way, while you are in bootloader, (and therefore have complete contol of the phone but without opening any files in the ROM or Radio), you could not remotely image the phone.
Oh well, if there's anyone out there that has a better understanding of these things it would be a great piece of work...
All I can suggest is that CHTS and XUA etc. can make it less than a 10-min job between flashes now, but I agree a complete back-up would be very ueful.

Could someone tell me tell me how to unroot> update> re-root for the most current update.. thanks for any help!

Go to the sticky how to unbrick or bring back from the brink to odin back and the accept all ota and rooting el30 is the same as ei22... look for qbking77 video on youtube for rooting...

im currently rooted, how do i unroot 1st?
Have you tried downloading the update (from the links provided on this forum somewhere), putting it onto your SD card, booting to recovery, and applying the update? I did that and I was already rooted before hand (meaning I didn't have to unroot). Did you do any other changes to your OS aside from rooting, such as applying the GPS fix or any other kernels?

Iv'e got a problem rooting my phone, already tried towelroot saying my phone isnt yet supported yet and ioroot neither worked..
Iv'e checked my build number and its weird, it doesn't match with any 3 ending characters of any version (D850 - 10D, D855- 10A\B\C and so).

We both have the same version. I believe that is the asian version of g3 (im also thinking it is the Singaporean version because of the SEA suffix, but i might be wrong)

did you follow the steps correctly? Like changing your usb in adb/ptp mode? Did you also try manual method?
