[Q] HD2 Won't charge - HD2 General

I've just been on holiday with my HD2 and after a day on the beach it now won't charge. I'm assuming that the connector is duff, however at 18months old I'm guessing it'll be out of warranty. It is insured, but since I've installed Android on it, that will have removed any protection I have for it. Does anyone have any advice at all, or is it time I said goodbye to it?

did you use magldr?
Magldr prevents the phone from charging unless it is on and booted into android.
You can
1 - use another hd2 running winmo to charge your battery
2 - get an external charger
3 - borrow a charged battery, use it to flash winmo to your phone and use your phone to charge your battery
4 - get a mini or micro USB cable (can prob do it with the larger printer type usb cables too, whatever you have about), , , cut end off, , , bare the red and black wires, , , plug into wall charger and apply red to + and black to - for about a minute, maybe two, , , battery back in phone, hit power on, plug real USb cable into phone and wall charger, , hope that you gave it enough juice to get half way thru booting, which is when charging will start. If you didnt. and it dioes , , try again for longer.
U can use your fingers to hold the wires, it wont shock you.

Also if you are in the EU its a 2 year warranty, all you need is to borrow a charged battery and return the phone to stock, same for insurance of course

Did you try and clean it with a vaccuum?

Dead Battery HTC Wizard

Hi all, for those of you that have experienced a totally dead battery you'll know the pain it is to get it going again. I have recently had this happen and decided to post a fix on here.
Lesson #1 Dont let your battery die completely, if you get a low battery alarm, turn your phone right off till you can charge it.
Lesson #2 If your battery dies completely, just throwing it on the charger wont charge it. This is because the Operating System looks after the charging. If your OS wont load, your battery wont charge.
FIX:
After trying various methods on the net, I found a surefire way to jump start your Wizard so you can get it charging.
You'll need : 3 x AAA batteries and 2 lengths of wire and some tape.
I cheated here, I managed to pull a 3 pack AAA battery setup out of a regular Panasonic cordless phone which saved me having to piggy back the batteries.
1) If you dont have a battery pack, you'll need to piggy back the batteries. + to minus on each one so that you have 3 batteries connected to each other with one free + and - side. Use the tape to keep the wires from moving around and getting loose.
2) Remove the battery from the phone.
3) Put a wire from the + side to the top connector of the phone battery connection ( top gold pin, right hand side of phone nearest to the power button )
4) Put the other wire from the - side to the bottom connector of the phone battery connection ( bottom gold pin, right hand side of phone nearest to the camera button )
*** There are 6 gold connections sticking out on the side. Make sure the wires only touch the top and bottom pins. Bend them round if you have to and clip them if needed.
5) Try the phone and it should switch on now. If it does, push the battery back into place while its loading.
6) As soon as you get to the today screen, plug your charger in. Wait about 1 minute and check its charging ( from the battery icon under seconds ).
7) If its charging remove the wires from the AAA battery combo ( in case they explode or something ).
Hope this helps the next poor soul that didnt have time to charge their battery before it died completely. And thanks to all the posters that have helped me out with my problems. Long live the Wizard
While this is a good post, it in not entirely true. If your battery completly dies, you can infact use a standard wall charger that outputs 1AMP or more of power to charge it with, even if you phone wont start. The charger that is included with all HTC devices outputs 1AMP, so they should all be useable. Good post otherwise though!
Thanks ashasaur. When I posted this I did not have access to a standard wall charger. However looking at getting one just in case this happens to me again. HA I hope not.
Thanks for all that advice. In desperation, I have just bought a new battery and was relieved to see my Prophet come back to life, having, yes, let the battery run completely down. (I am away from home, where I left my charger as the Prophet seemed to charge quite happily from a USB port)
If 3 AAA batteries work ok (~4.5 volts), wouldn't it be a bit safer just to connect them to the dead battery for a while, as described above, to give it a bit of a charge, rather than risk the phone, or isn't 4.5 volts enough? Greg
buy a 4.5v 500ma adaptor and it will work
Earlier I was afraid of dead battery and use to turn off my kjam but later I got an idea and purchased one 4.5 v 500 ma wall adaptor($1 only) and cut the end socket and use it to give initial charge.
Earlier I was so much worried about my battery that had to put it in charging point where ever I find a usb port but now seems Kjam battery knows that's why haven't died for 2-3 months even though sometimes I forgot to charge it in night

Great idea. Just tried it with an in-car USB power adaptor, but it didn't supply enough oomph. If you follow pawanmehta's advice, you might want to check out this site - USB pin out and lead details - for the correct leads to wire up.
A quick look around the internet suggests that mains to USB power adaptors are available at £4.85 (UK) or $15 USA but I expect a proper search would turn up cheaper items. Greg
It works with a O2 XDA Mini S, but it didnt work at first time: I have to put the cable with the 3-battery-arrangement and the 3.7 1400mAh battery at the same time, it's looks like that it wont turn on if the pins are not pressed, but well, I succesfully boot and now i'm charging (i remove the 3 battery arrangement).
And, I use 3 AA Duracell batteries, I tought it's the same than using 3 AAA, 'cause they use the same voltage (1.5 for common, and 1.2 for rechargeable).
Best regards, and thanks a lot MattyZee, u have my blessings

hey everybody...
i read the thread a few days ago and thought...okay good to know but that will never happen to me now that i know that it shouldnt...
now...a few days later...of course it happenend...
soo...i tried everything. but the things are complecated to do alone...with all the wires and then pushing the power button and installing the battery again...
so i had to give up...
but here is another way how to do it...
it is already beein mentioned i think...
use the 3 battery combo, 2 wires at both ends, take out the dead battery and put the - wire to the pin at the very botton (the bin at the longer end) and the + at the other end.
hold that just for about a minute (i think i just holded it for 10 seconds but a minute would be better maybe...)
and then put the battery back in and it should start...
oh and i tried to use a 1400mA wall adapter and it didnt worked...
but try to avoid that...
it is not a nice situation seeing youre wizard dieing like that...
and at first i thought it is not the battery...i thought it is broken...
so avoid it if possible...
thats it...
What is length wire (sorry if it's a idiotic question)
please help
btw, I have O2 xda mini S.
And can I use 3 AA batteries????
thanks a lot,it worked
once again THANK YOU
You guys are geniusses It started, but when it started I put the charger in it fro my laptop and waited a while (removed batteries) then i saw it was charging but when I was waiting some more it yust fell off !! So i started it up again with the AAA's and then putted charger back in and i was using the phone, I saw it was charging and I looked @ lvl and it kept on saying it was on 0 % :s Then i thought let me wait a while and i stopped using it so it fell off again, what did I do wrong twice ?
Thx
A 9v Battery (The type you find in smoke alarms) does the job as well.
ONLY connect it for a couple of seconds, but repeat about 5 times then connect it upto a usb data lead and after about 10 seconds it should kick in.
After its been charging for about 30 mins turn the Wizard on.
Have succesfully used this method on 3 Wizards now and it works every time!
Don't Forget To Put The Battery Back In Your Smoke Alarm!
Exceptional
Thank you. I have a Kaiser that I love, and was just handed a Wizard that wouldn't even start. This post let me boot it and start the charge.
Thanks.
Apologies for bumping an old(ish) thread but I've tried this jump start method and seem to be having no luck with it.
I've tried the methods suggested, using 3 AAA batteries didn't seem to do a thing for me, but I've had a slight result using one of those square 9V batteries; the camera flash comes on and the screen lights up but wm doesn't begin booting up (the screen just stays blank but lit).
I've also tried attempting to give the battery some charge using the method mentioned earlier but that too doesn't seem to be working either.
The battery in question is brand new (one of those extended ones with a higher mAh) and I'm assuming it's arrived with zero charge in it.
Does anyone have any suggestions?
(incase anybody is wondering, the wizard boots up fine using a different battery which is charged)
edit: if it's of any relevance, the wizard's a g4.
edit2: I've tried charging it with the wall charger but all that seems to happen is a red light flashes once every 5/10 seconds and the screen flickers on then off
Update: After numerous attempts at jump starting, my wizard now refuses to charge whatsoever.
The light flashes orange (I did follow the guide posted on the wiki about that but it had no effect) but it comes up saying it's charging onscreen, however it simply doesn't charge (the battery life just slowly drops).
It's the same using either the wall charger or usb.
I did try taking the battery out/doing a soft reset/doing a hard rest but to no avail.
Would I be correct in assuming my wizard's now broken?
I'd just donated my blueangel to a friend too as I thought I'd no longer need it, but now i'm left without a phone
I've found a standalone battery charger on the internet for around £10 or so, I might give that a try. If it works, I'll have my wizard back, albeit without being able to charge it while it's switched on. On the plus side, it would eliminate the need to jump start it ever again though.
wizard resurrection...
This problem is quite a hard time for the wizard users...
I know many users with 2 or 3 wizards in the closet because they just died, and there are none powered batterys around...
I hope this can help someone, somehow...
WIZARD RESURRECTION
Props to all!

How did u make out with the battery issue? I have the same prob and the light on the camera lights up but i can't get it to charge and i'm using a new battery any suggestions would be helpful. Thanks
Just to repeat a comment made by ashasaur 12 months ago. You need a 1amp charger. Although someone had success with a 500mA charger, that wouldn't work for me, whilst a 1000mA (1Amp) charger worked to recover a completely discharged battery.
A new battery should not have zero charge. NiMH batteries do not like being left around fully discharged and, to the best of my knowledge, are not supplied discharged.

Broken MDA Vario after full battery rundown

Arg
Windows wont load and that means no chance of charging
This is the second time its happened and im out of spare batteries
Can anyone help?
Thanks
it might work
hey...so i had the same problem and there is one threat i cant remember the name right now...
but there ate two options u can do...
1. u can just take 3 AA batteries connect them and put wires on both ends and then put the one u wired at the + to the + at the battery and the - to the -...and that just for like 20 or 30 seconds...that schould give the battery enough power to startjust rechagre it normally with a wall charger.
or 2. i think its harder...but u can hold the wired to the first pin at the top of the battery pin things in the vario and the - to the miuns one, so the one at the bottom...then start it...put a usb wall charger to the usb and when its started u can take the wired away and put the battery back in...
the wizard wouldnt start when the battery died completly, cuz the os manages the charging, so when u cant start the windows mobile, u cant charge it...
but when i tried the first option it worked out pretty well...
so just try that...
if u dont really understand what im talking about just search a threat like dead battery or dead wizard...irt was something lik that but the result of thatone was the same that i wrote...
good luck with that!
bye
thanks
i think that should do it
its getting a bit old - so maybe its time for an upgrade anyway, an htc touch diamond or hd perhaps....?
thanks a lot for your help
The charger port had broken on my old MDA and before I sold it on eBay I needed to charge it cause the battery ran out (to prove it still booted). I used option # 2 in the-nj's post. I spliced open a usb cable on the mini-usb end and connected held the right wires to the + and -. I plugged in the usb end to my laptop. It was tedious but took about 15 minutes to charge past 10% which was good enough.

Instead of fiddling and wiring 3 batterys together just get a 9v one (the type found in smoke alrms) connect it to your battery for about 3 seconds but repeat about 5 times then connect to either a charger or USB lead.

[Q] HTC HD2 running nand android will not turn on after battery died

Hey everyone been using this thread for a few months now it's so useful and I appreciate all the help. I know this has been posted before and I tried all the steps listed in the other thread but last night I let my phone die and when I plug it in it just boots up until the dark forces team screen before it starts over again i tried all the steps listed to get it to charge it just seems not to work. I was able to get into the magldr screen if I plug it in and hold volume and power off. From there I choose to power down and as long as it stays plugged in the orange light comes on but when I try to power it on nothing happens. Any advice would be greatly appreciated. Thanks so much
you cant charge it powered off without winmo, simple.
2 options, borrow battery long enough to flash wnmo on your phone, use your phone to charge battery, or put battery in another winmo hd2 to charge enough to start android. (or, let it sit for an hour or two, they sometimes recover a little charge, perhaps enough to boot. Boot with the usb in, cos ability to charge kicks in about half way thru teh boot process.
just to add a third option to my last post, , i let my battery die stupidly today, completely dead, , took an old usb cable, took the end off, black wire to - and red wire to + on battery, plug in usb cable, bite nails and worry for 1 minute, enough charge in battery to power on phone and boot enough for actual charging to start!

clever! brave! i like your attitude man
heh, not that brave, i didnt do it till id read about a hundred posts of people doing it on various devices.
@bakse, whats to explain?
get a usb cable,
cut the usb end off,
strip off the silver shielding,
find the red and black wires,
bare the ends,
attach the ends to the battery,, red to +, black to - (it says on the battery which is which)
plug in the usb cable.
After a minute, remove the wires, and try the battery in the phone, and hope it has enough power to start to boot and start to charge.
I read a fair few posts where people were holding the wires to the battery by hand, it is after all only a few volts dc, but i just wasnt that brave and went for gaffer tape.

hehe, i did 3 years as an electronics tech in the RAF, (long time ago) so im not usually that nervous around electricity, but i was last night, , generic 3 pin usb charger, generic usb cable, stories of batteries bursting, ANYTHING could have happened!
Ive tried it again today on an old dispensable htc elfin, held it for 5 mins, which is far longer than any posts ive read. Battery got warm, but not worryingly, and when i booted the elfin it had 2%, and managed fully booting plus ten minutes use, and id drained it completely before starting.
Im glad ive tried it, and now i hope i never need to do it again.
I just accidentally let my HD2 drain the battery, but this is the first time it hasn't come on. I did the USB cord trick and it seems to juice the battery, but when I finally got to the menu me being so caught up in the excitement that my phone wasn't bricked and that I could get it running again forgot to plug in my phone to be charged and it died again... Now I am using the hacked up USB cord to charge my battery, but is doesn't seem to charge it very fast and after about 10 minutes of letting it sit I get to the boot screen in Magldr but the battery dies mid boot. Now my question is should I leave the battery to be charged with the red and black wire USB trick and how long can I let the battery charge like that will it be fine for a few hours? Thanks for your replies in advance.

I don't know if it would be safe to leave the wire connected to the battery that long. To be safe I would only leave them connected to the battery for 15 to 20 minutes 30 minutes max. I would also monitor the battery making sure it is not getting warm/hot or that the batterry does not start to swell. As either of this things are signs that you should disconnect the wires.
Well it worked I got it charged to 5% and it took forever, but when I put it in my phone and it booted it said it was currently charging, but when I woke up dead again...
Charge with wall charger, not via PC,, the current of PC charging is way lower, so for an almost flat battery it may not be enough to both charge and run the phone.
Ive been doing this usb cable hack/trick what ever u wanna call it for a few days now my usb port is completely busted and ive got wp7 on it struggling to find anyone near me that will fix it as im not brave enough to take the phone apart and replace the micro usb port
HTC HD2 running NAND won't turn on after battery died
I spent couple hours last night after my phone accidently died and was unable to turn on even charging with wall charger, I read about trick with cutting usb or charging cable and attaching wires to the battery. Finally, I found great solution by myself. I simply connected phone to my car charger and in less than 1 minute it started Android and after couple minutes I was able to move my phone back to the wall charger
actually you can charge the battery with whatever you have handy.
I charged phone batteries with anything ranging from wires cut off from just about any li-ion phone charger (older nokias, samsung and se preferable), solar panels, other batteries (3 standard aaa alkaline batteries in series will do the job also - almost no risk to phone battery) electrochemical reactions (the best one, getting electricity from mustard using copper and zinc electrodes - also worked but you need 6 "custom made" mustard "cells" ), any sort of usb port etc
My choice depended on whatever i had handy at my disposal at that particular moment.
I also powered up phones with empty (or if i suspect them to be dead) batteries by placing 3 aaa rechargeable (ni-cd or ni-mh.. NEVER USE primary-non rechargeable batteries or any sort of alkaline/carbon based chemistry) batteries in series with the + and - leads over the ones in the phone but WITH the original phone battery connected (it won't work if you simply supply the phone with 3.7 - 4.3 volts.. the center phone battery pin is needed).
They all work and for a one time quick emergency charge, it will be fine (just don't make a habit on doing these to often).

[Q] Charging problem

Hey all,
It seems my HTC HD2 is unable to receive any kind of charge. I've used a different usb cable, my roommate's myTouch 4G cable and a friend's HD2 cable, and they all cannot charge my phone as well. My phone doesn't recognize any cable that is being plugged into it. I've made sure I'm in the right USB connection setting, checked the little 3 gold prongs where my battery receives (electricity?) from the phone to make sure those aren't situated in an odd bent position, but alas nothing. Could it do something with the actual part on my HD2 that the cables plug into? Phone is currently dead and I have no phone and am out of warranty. Is it a part I can easily replace?
Thanks for your help!
Edit: It seems the HD2 was launched on March 16 so I'm a couple of days past the 1 year mark fo warranty. Do you think I could persuade tmobile or HTC into replacing my phone even though it this slim out of warranty?
Does your lex still show that the battery is charving when you plug your HD2 up to your charger? If so you may have a faulty battery. If not then it could be a hardware or software problem. I suggest you buy another battery and see if
Nope, the chord isn't even recognized. It's as if nothing is plugged in when in fact something is.
Sounds like a broken microUSB port. Unnless you have a warranty, you're out of luck. To replace the port, you'd need a whole new mainboard.
Yes if your HD2 is not recognizing the USB cable then yes it sounds like you have a bad mini USB port on your HD2. You can try a hard reset if you want to but make sure to back up all your personal information first, but I kinda doubt it will do you any good to hard reset. You will have to get the main board replaced if this is your issue, wi h I believe it is. You can either find a cell phone repair shop or do it yourzlc ic you feel comfortable enough doing it. replacing the mainboard requires no soldering as all the ribbons just plug in. You just need to be gental with everything as you are working on it.
Now to get you by until you can either fix the phone or just to be abale to harvesting the battery for day to day use. You can by a external charger. Or you can take a old USB cable or buy a cheap USB cable and cut the end off of it. Strip it back a little and the zrip back the red and black wires a little. With a little tape attack the red wire to the positive(+) battery terminal and the black wire to the negative (-) battery terminal. Then plug the cable into your wall charger, don't worry the oltage comming out the wires is very low and will not hurt you, in fact you can not even feel it. They are marked on the battery. I do suggest just using this as a very temporary fix until you can vet an external charger or get your HD2 fixed as I do not know if this may be detramental to your battery with long term use. Also I give credit to Senior Member Samsamuel for this idea as he is the one I learned it from.
I contacted HTC and they confirmed the phone is still under warranty. The problem is I'm running CM7 on my phone so I'm asssuming when they start it up and view I have a 3rd party ROM, they'll void my warranty. I would rather fix it myself personally but I don't know anything nor do I really want to touch/pay for a new mainboard. But if my phone does get it's warranty voided, I'll have to pay either way. I think I might just go ahead and buy an external battery charger until i figure out what to do

magldr wont let battery charge when phone is off.
No fault with phone, dead battery and user error.
Use another hd2 that isnt running magldr to charg ebattery, OR use friends battery to flash to winmo and use winmo to charge battery, OR take an old usb cable, mini or micro, cut end off, find red and black wires, connect red to + black to - on the battery (the markings are on there faintly) and plug in to wall charger for a half minute or so then try start phone with real usb cable plugged in. should be enough charge to boot far enough into android for the charging to start. If nothing at all happens, then maybe there is really a problem.
You can hold the wires on by hand, you wont feel it, or i used tape.

stock ROM. download it, extract the .NBH from the .exe, stick the .NBH on the SD card and rename it to LEOIMG. Hold volume down + power when the phone is off.
may i repeat, just to confirm you considered this before you go about getting it repaired,, , if the battery is flat and magldr is installed, the phone wont charge.nothing will happen when you plug in usb.

Is it bricked?

Hey guys,
I'm a little bit new at this, but my missus flashed a rom onto her HD2 a year or two ago and about 6 months ago I tried to revert it back to stock, so i could give it to a mate...
It didnt go well and ended up not being able to get into the boot loader (three colour screen?).
So i pulled it out yesterday as I am going to need a temporary phone soon...
I plugged it into the charger and it vibrated 5 or 6 times and up came the HTC logo with the white background... It stayed on that permantly.
So i'm at work now and figured i'd try to get into the boot loader (3 colour screen).
But now when i try to turn it on, it doesnt want to. Every now and then after pulling out the battery and plugging it in and fiddling around and putting the battery back, it will vibrate 5 or 6 times again, but no screen...
I'm pretty sure its due for the graveyard... But is there any chance to get this happening again?
Thanks for any help, and sorry, i dont remember the ROMs or anything, but they were ones that were all recommended in here... i'm usually very carefull when flashing.
When turning the phone on, hold the power (far right button) and the down volume button...be quick and you shouldnt see the splash screen. If that works, get a rom and rename to leoimg and put that on your sdcard.
She's not turning on anymore... its like the battery is flat but she's plugged in...
It does have a cheap ebay battery, so might try and dig out the original battery and see if that is the issue..

If you could not get it to the bootloader the first time way back when then it is .ricked and no amount of time of it just laying ariund will have changed that. The only way to revive the phone is by using a JTAG and a RIFFBOX on it but the RICFBOX will cost you where the JTAG is not that bad. Or you can replace the mainboard in the phone. These are your options my friend.
Turns out the Ebay battery was having an effect on it...
Have got it to the three colour screen! woo!
It says:
PB81100 SS-BC
SPL-3.03.0000 XE
MicroP(LED) 0x05
MicroP(Touch) 0x50
So looks like i've got SPL-3.03.0000???
No idea on the radio though. and no idea how to get this back to stock.
Any ideas?
Oh and also, we bought this initially from mobicity.com.au and its apparently a Thailand phone, so we always used to have problems trying to flash a ROM that was in english with out Serial Number.
Any help would be awesome... I dont know alot about this stuff, and should never have let the missus stuff around with it.
THanks for any help guys and gals.
Edit:
Better yet, How do i go from where my phone is now, to WP7?
Should i go right back to stock first? or can I just go from here?
Should I change from SPL-3.03.0000?
Any help would be awesome.
thank you
Edit again:
With this SPL, could I Install MAGLDR 1.13 from here (http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=912416)
Update the ROM,
THen in MAGLDR USB Flash and Install DFT_LEO70_RELEASE?
If I can do this with SPL3.03.0000, then would love to have some WP7 goodness.

You can go straight for WP7, but to flash MAGLDR you have to have HSPL 2.08. Google or search XDA for HSPL 4 and download it and flash it through bootloader. Before you try to flash though make sure to go to www.windowsmobile.com/getstarted and download the lates version of Windows Mobile Device Center (WMDC) and install it to your computer as it has USB drivers you need. If you are using Windows XP then download the latest ActiveSync from there and install it to your computer. Put your HD2 into bootloader and connect your HD2 via USB cable to your computer and wait utiil the Serial changes to USB in the white bar of bootloader. Then run the HSPL 4 and when it ask what HSPL or SPL you want to install make sure to select HSPL 2.08, this is the only HSPL MAGLDR supports. Use the same method to flash a new radio if need be and to flash MAGLDR. Let me know if you need any more assistance and I will help, you can even PM me if you want. Glad your HD2 is not bricked too.
Thanks for the help...
Went to try this and the bloody phone went back to doing the same thing again... grrr... Maybe this charger i'm using at work isnt working or something (Original HTC USB Port Charger (240V)

Yeah use radio version 2.15.50.24 as it is the latest radio and seems to be the best one out so far.
Quick question:
Got HSPL 2.08 on...
Does the HTC charge while in the bootloader(three colour screen) and plugged into USB?
Might charge it for a while before I attempt anymore..

No it does not charge, sorry. Also sorry for the late post I had some personal crap to do lol.
Edit: You can buy a external charger for the HD2 battery if you want to. Or if you want to you can do this. Note I only suggest you do this long enough to flash some kind of ROM onto your HD2 and then completely charge the battery the normal way. Take a old or very cheap USB cable and cut the end off. Strip back the red and black wires a little. Use some tape to attach the red wire to the positive battery terminal and the black wire to the negative battery terminal. Plug the USB cable into your wall charger and mantain a watch on the battery for any warming up or swelling as it is a very very small chance this could occur. Also don't worry about getting shocked cause it is like ultra low voltage going through the wires.
Thanks a heap... have dodgied up a charging rig... lol...
Its not easy with the battery terminals being recessed, but i think its working...
what you reckon an hour or so at that? or only half an hour should do it?

I would go for like 40 to 45 minutes as long as you do not see any adverse effects like I mentioned before. Make sure you are completely ready to flash a ROM when you take it off the charging rig. best of luck.

Hopefully this is not a bit late, but be careful of charging with makeshift arrangements. LiIon batteries can have explosive!

Yes you are very correct the LiIon batteries have s potential to be explosive. This is why I told him to maintane a watch on it as he was charging for any warming or swelling of the battery as this is a sign it needs to be disconnected. I do not recomend this method of charging as a daily charging method as there is no monitor of the battery bing charged beside the person doing the charging. With normal charging with the device the device has monitoring software and can tell you if it needs to be disconnected from the charger. But just to add to this subject for other members benifit, and I am not trying to promote charging batteries in this manner what so ever, as it is a certain level of danger involved all be it minimal. When you connect a USB cable to charge the battery normaly it creates a connection between the male mini USB connector pins and the the pins in the female port of the phone for the positive and the negative wires that go back to the wall charger or computer's USB port. The pins have a direct path to the battery pins so it can tranfer the voltage to the battery. So you see there is no internal parts in the phone that control charging only a pathway/conductor for the voltage to travel. The wall charger or the internal step down transformer of the computer is what controls voltage and the rate of flow of the electricity and voltage. So as long as you have proper connection and proper functioning charging source it is a very minimal risk. I have tested the pins in my HD2 while plugged into my wall charger and a USB cable I stripped back and got the exact same voltage readings. I have not seen a scimatic drawing on the HD2 but I have reseach charging of cell phones and most other battery operated devices and it is pretty much an indusrty standard that the charger controls charging with the pins or terminals that connect to the battery only providing a means of a conductive pathway for the charge to travel to the bttery terminals. But as I said before I do not suggest one to use my above method of charging as a normal thing. So please whenever possible use a approved charger or charging aporatise.
My personal opinion... WAIT (sorry for the caps)
Don't risk to flash with that faulty or bad battery.
If you take the batt out of your device it doesn't boot at all, even on the 1 Amp charger!
If you check the warnings from HTC they state that you need atleast 50% in the batt. That warning is not there without a reason.
So if you have a bad battery you take very big risks that I would never take.
I know it itches to have this up and running the way you want to but for your mind and wallet sake buy another ebay batt.
Leave it aside untill a better batt arrives.
My 2 Eurocents!

I have experienced flashing with battery less than 50% (around 35%), but I used SD Card method. If using USB sync, definitely will not work (I tried already )
cheers

does if you put the phone into bootloader manually, ,, it bypasses the battery level check.
