Which provides more battery life.
Im on CM5 now and my battery dies SO FAST you can almost see it going down just watching the screen, i have the screen turned all the way down, use only 2g networks. ever tried to under-clock, when i check battery usage says system idle uses 49%
any ideas ?
Are you serious?
Better yet, don't use the phone at all, that might save the battery.
Dude with those settings its like having a 20th Century device.
Flash another ROM or something, try wiping battery stats, it has been suggested all over the forum...
Why do I even bother...when the mods see this youre a gonner anyway.
It's not so much the ROM, its the apps and widgets you have installed. Some are poorly written, some don't play nice with other apps or certain set ups.
All you can do is install a monitoring app like system panel, and remove the apps that are using alot of CPU.
That's what I have done.

listen pal what im saying is my battery doesnt last for **** since i flased CM5 so im wondering if thats to be expected with CM5 and maybe fixed in CM6. but yea ur super helping that for the sarcastic reply, next time dont bother. ooh and btw i dont have to use the phone for it to die with in like 10 hours it will be idle the entire time and it will die.

EDIT: Battery usage says system idle is nearly 50% of usage, even after i kill all the apps :[
LOL! Wow, someone's a little edgy...
It's definitely not a "CM5 issue" that would be fixed in CM6 (CM6 is still in RC, CM5 has had several stable releases!) eyegor's suggestion to wipe battery stats was probably good advice believe it or not. Charge full, power off, leave plugged in. Boot into recovery and wipe battery stats. Power down, unplug and start up, let it drain allllll the way.
Check out xda homepage even - a battery calibration post!!
Battery life is pretty variable as you can see in the numerous threads on this topic. CM's forum has one with a poll with most saying CM6 is better, but not a clear cut answer.
I used SystemPanel's monitor function to identify which app was eating battery. It worked great! My biggest offender was Weather and Toggle widget. I loved its customization but its battery gulping was just not worth it. Got rid of it and my battery life is much more consistent.
I also got a cheapie battery off eBay which helped.
Both CM5 and 6 run perfect on my phone. No battery drains.
My point was that you're in the wrong section, pal.
You also might want to watch logcat while the phone is idle or sleeping to see if there are numerous errors or warnings scrolling by when there should be very little activity.
I have a similar issue. Initially I had the rediculous drain, but as mentioned wiping battery stats from recovery fixed it for the most part. Once it says its fully charged and you turn the phone off, let it sit charging overnight. Then wipe the stats in the morning and don't charge again until the phone turns itself off. Only issue I have now is that when I've got my GPS turned on, in use or not, it kills the battery. While in use I get about 2 hours from a full battery to the phone turning itself off. Haven't figured that one out.

No worries. It freaked me out when I first flashed 5.0.8. I use my phone as an MP3 player in my truck with it plugged in to my CD players AUX Jack. Did a 5 hour road trip and only lost around 10% including a few phone calls.

The only way you could have that on a stock battery is have the phone off and battery pulled out for 34 hours.
I'm getting a lot better life with the overclocked kernal and midnight eb13. 8hrs of moderate usage and was only down to 55%. I'm loving it.

keep an eye on your TWS. This has been a huge issue for me, and keeps draining the life out of the battery. Only solution so far seems to be the ariplane mode toggle work around.
I was able to make 30+ hours on a single full charge with dk28.
I still haven't put eb13 through its paces but from what I'm seeing, its great with battery.

if you all want better battery life then disable your data network ...the way to do this is hold down the power button ...just like you are turning your phone off, you will see the data network. hit that button..it will disable your internet constantly running in the back ground and also will disable notifications...you can turn it on at your discression when you want to check your email, internet, or anything pertaining to data network...but trust me this will give you alot more battery life..also you can install setcpu and clock it to run lower when your phone is charging, not in use , or even when you are using your phone...this also helps substantually...good luck guys

Very nice suggestions I'd also like to add that using Wifi will use a LOT less battery then 3G probably 80% of the time. At work I have poor reception so leaving 3G on will kill my battery, however WiFi it's not uncommon I leave work after 10 hours unplugged with only 20-25% of the battery used! Make sure to set the wifi sleep policy to never if you go this route, that way it never goes back to 3G even when sleeping.
Turning data off completely and using the phone only lightly all day at work (a few text messages) (10 hours unplugged) i've left work with 88% percent battery remaining
Battery life has improved greatly. I turn off background data, stop the Omadrmblablabla service, no live backgrounds, but it is full color. With moderate use I can see 10 hours and still have 40% before I go to bed.
My battery life has been greatly increased too. The battery indicator seems much more accurate too. I did the factory reset several times, then wiped and used the samsung installer.

I wish I could be as lucky as you. This is by far my biggest complaint with eb13. I have tried flashing multiple times to no avail. How did you update? odin, samsung exe, update zip, or ota?
I did an odin flash, and my battery is much better as well. On 2.1 stock I would usually get about 16 hrs with my usage. Now, with the same usage on EB13, I can get about 36hrs (charging every other night).
I did the zip update first, and my battery was awful and only lasted for 4 hours. But since the odin flash, everything is great!

I have tried that as well, no dice. Only the airplane toggle seems to fix it. I have to airplane toggle every time I boot up. Once I do that the TWS is around 2-5% which is normal for me.

TWS = time without signal. Airplane mode resets the radio on the device and somehow fixes it (albeit, temporarily). I read somewhere on here people believe it has something to do with the fact that, for some reason, the phone is looking for a gsm signal as well as cdma, and since this is not a gsm phone, it obviously can't find a gsm signal. The constant searching for gsm is causing a drain on the battery. This happens in areas with full sprint coverage, like my house. For whatever reason re-setting the radio forces it to stay on cdma mode only. I think i read someone saying something along the lines of it being a problem because this is was an update created for devices across the board, ie, for both cdma and gsm handsets. Its just a bug that needs addressed. Some people have it, some don't -- which is even more frustrating!
If you are not experiencing this problem, please tell me what method you used to update. I have only tried Odin (and update zip once), so I will try the samsung exe to see if it does anything.
I flashed my vibrant to bionix 1.3.1 a while back, pretty much a week after is was released. Its been great up to about 2-3 days ago. I had a full charge at work at today around 2 pm, I got home and checked the battery life at around 6 pm it was at 72%. I sent out about 4 texts lastnight. Got up this morning is was at 44%. I used to get about 2-3 days out of light use. It will probably be dead by 2 pm again today.
What gives?
Network data off -
Black background -
Brightness is the lowest -
Idk maybe randomly reading it wrong? P.s. Why dont people charge their phones at night?!?!? Thats what I do
Oh i do as well usually. But like i said, the battery is starting to drop so fast that by lunch that day it was already at like 49%. By 2 pm is was full and so on. I just dont understand why its dropping so fast thats all.
Might have something to do with the battery
Check what's running in the background. The other night I was just using the phone normally and put it to sleep, checked it a few times and it was dropping 1% every 15 minutes or so. Noticed it kept checking into something. VVM and Market Checkin was running, killed it and it seemed to help. Also discovered (might not be true) that the New MAPS and GMAIL apps constantly check in and drain the battery after removing the updates phone seems to last longer/as it did before..:/
oo maybe that might be it. I Just updated a boat load of my apps a few days ago. P.s. how do you remove just the update?

or sadlly Your battery cant hold the juice anymore because it was recharged to zero few times too many , sorry
This is crazy. I just came to xda to post my bionix 1.3.1 battery problem. I been running it for a week and no issues. But this morning I took the phone off the charger and within 10 minutes of using it I was down to 85%. Usually after my morning usage I'd be around 93-95%. But that's not the issue I wanted to post.
I was trying to wait for Black Ice since Frost had the best battery life of any rom I've tried...just not feeling the Frost theme. So I started to download the Frost zip & got the phone on the charger.
Even after I put it back on the charger my battery life kept going down. Plugged it in at 85% and a few minutes later I noticed it was at 83%

I agree with you also. These guys must have some super batteries to get that kind of life out of it. lol.
im running the stable cm7 release and my battery life is terrible. i followed the guide on the forums here on fixing your battery life, charging to 100% pull battery put back in instal battery fix etc and overnight (short 5 hour night btw) i lost over 25% of my battery life, doing nothing ! wifi off data was on but i only recieved one or two emails all night. is this normal for cm7?
i read about how people are getting 20+ hours battery life while using their phone, if i leave my charger at home and go to work my phone is DEAD halfway through and all i use it for is the occasional phone call mabye 5-10 texts throughout the day and an email or two... how can i fix this?
I read somewhere that if you flash another ROM with battery not fully charged, it messes up calibration and you have to calibrate again. I am still with stock Blur just because I read so many issues with so many people about batteries
I hope you can get it figured out.
anybody?
is anybody else having battery life issues with cm7? if not did you do something to fix it? i have no idea what to do, the phone pretty much has to be tethered to a charger or it gets drained ridiculously fast. If i hang out with a few friends and use my phone during it i literally have to stop using it after around an hour or so because the battery's about to die.
Is there a certain rom with exceptional battery life that i can try to see if mabye its a hardware related issue? i seem to remember having horrible battery life for the day? or so that i was running stock ATT gingerbread.
I use Aura 1.2.2.2 (debloat) and get average battery life. Comparable to what I got before I installed third party ROM. If you want to try that one and see if its just CM then give it a go.
I had a battery problem after flashing to CM with a previous phone (OG Droid) but it was because I flashed while I had the phone plugged into the charger. It took a while to get it back to normal.
I doubt its CM. I dont know if its something draining your battery in the background or if its a result of weird calibration due to the flash.
my battery life has never been hte greatest but recently i got it working really well
I use the latest weekly build of CM7 and here is what i did
upon fresh install:
wipe battery stats
THEN:
kill battery
charge as far as it will go
clear battery stats (use battery calibration app)
take out battery
wait to reboot(missing battery)
put it back in
let it charge for 2hrs
reboot and unplug
kill the battery
charge to 100% while off (no interuptions)
Enjoy!
i have found that the more cycles my battery goes through 100-0-100
the better it gets
these steps almost tripled my battery life (along with Weekly 3)
there is a bug some people report with CM7 about the suspend process. (i have it, you can search "suspend" in the CM7 thread and see others are as well) load up the app betterbatterystats (there is a thread on xda that has the apk) and see if you have that bug.

i installed betterybatterystats as you guys recommended and im not entirely sure how to read it but the suspend process shows at the top of the list so i assume thats the process which is eating up my battery? Is there a fix for this? i do like cm7 but if its the rom which is causing my battery life issues ill have to wave goodbye. Does this suspend process but happen on the weekly / nightly builds as well?
I was having horrible battery life as well. I froze some apps that I downloaded from the market and that helped a little bit but what gave me 20+ hours of battery life is the new UK orange Radio that has recently been released. I wanted to flash it since I am using an Orange UK phone and see if it improves my wifi connection, etc....
Reddy flashing a radio appropriate to your device and see if it helps.

KitKat didn't kill battery life. Mine is about the same as it was before KitKat. In about 99.999% of the time an app is to blame. I have a simple but arduous method to find the app that's killing your battery.
I agree the battery has taken a hit. I used to ave about 9hrs of screen on time, now about 6hrs. I also have the chromecast issue. Strange thing is that sometimes the screen doesnt even show up In the battery stats. Sometimes the usage time doesnt change when it shows in battery stats. I am stock, 32gb white US model updated with Kies. I have done many factory resets. I have tried it for 2 days without installing any apps or disabling any samsung bloat, with no change in the tablest behavior.

Kitkat sent my note into fits. Battery life was terribly erratic at first. Dropping 30% in an hour, then suddenly jumping back up by 10%.
I tried factory reset.... nothing changed. Then I used the Battery Callibration app from playstore. Ran it and followed instructions exactly. (Waited til it was charged 100%, then run the program, then completely drain battery, then let it charge continuously back up to 100%).
Go figure............ since then things have calmed down and I am getting the same battery life as on my old Jellybeans note. (I know, because I've got two of these tablets and literally compared them side by side.)
Or, it could also be that after firmware upgrade things need a bit of time to settle down. Hope this helps.

Yeah, I am used to android taking a bit to settle in. After my note 3 updated, it seems like it took a month to get back to my "normal". I hope the tablet does too, just frustrating in the mean time
Mine settled down after about 3 days and several resets. Now the battery seems comparable to pre-KitKat.
I don't think it is kit Kat. I'm running kit Kat and easily see 9 hours of screen on. It is most likely an app you have installed that is doing it.

Then not everyone would then mention that it is not change or improved (in stand-by).
No, normally a app or bad file on the sd-card is killing here the battery. All tools to find this out, are already mentioned here. Good luck.
4.4 in and of itself isn't causing poorer battery life. In fact, owners of other devices are reporting improvements. The Exynos N3 for example. There aren't any battery life issue threads on the Pro forums and they have the same h/w and we're most likely using their 4.4 drivers and kernel. There are threads like this in every device forum when an Android version upgrade is released. It's almost always due to a bad flash or a rogue app or service. That and older apps that haven't been updated in ions and aren't playing well with the new OS. People here have reported shorter charging time and longer battery life. So what's being discussed isn't universal. I'd suggest doing a stock recovery and reviewing older apps and those that aren't developed by known and larger developers.
I have a Shield and S4 too. For every poster raving, there seems an opposite view on battery life and the SD card issue.
The SD issue makes battery life debates moot. Google has an Apple wannabe syndrome. Perhaps they will rebrand as Goople.
You can recalibrate the battery by running it down below 20% then recharging. I have seen it recommended to do this every 30 days or so.
My Note 3 with KitKat started using 20-30% of the battery at night while it was idle. Looked and looked and couldn't find a clue to the problem. Decided to reboot, the next night it was fine, used maybe 2-3%

Agree and disagree!
I did have charging problem and battery drain right after KK update. I have to do the Factory Data Reset. Luckily my tablet is back to normal if not better. I did spend sometime go thru all setting. So I managed to get 4 hrs of screen time with moderate use and I still have about 59% of battery.
So I say kk is good or better then jellybean

Everybody wants to be a comedian.
I don't have this issue but maybe affected people should read this : http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=52366635&postcount=236
I updated a couple days ago and since then my battery just sucks. It just went from 100% to 29% in 2 hours just using Youtube. It can't be right. Definitely it's the upgrade!!
I loved my Note 10.1 2014 out the box that I decided not to root. So it's factory stock and suck very bad.
If it's a bad app I can find it. It worked flawlessly before the upgrade.
Factory reset and see if it still happens. A dirty flash can do weird stuff...

Yeah, im not getting great battery life either since this update. I just reset the tablet in the hope of tracking down what's the issue.
Troubling, since battery life was so great previously.
